Easter 2025 UNSTOPPABLE, 1 Cor. 15, Rom 8 By Louie Marsh, 4-20-2025 Intro – 5 pics – Jesus on road to Emmaus last one. Easter – the HEART of the Christian faith. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 15:14-19 (ESV) If Jesus isn't alive then as a Disciple of Jesus I'm… 1) Guilty of LYING about God We are even found to be misrepresenting God…. 1 Corinthians 15:15A (ESV) And face it—if there's no resurrection for Christ, everything we've told you is smoke and mirrors, and everything you've staked your life on is smoke and mirrors. Not only that, but we would be guilty of telling a string of barefaced lies about God, all these affidavits we passed on to you verifying that God raised up Christ—sheer fabrications, if there's no resurrection. Message 2) Guilty of lying to EVERYONE. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain…because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 1 Corinthians 15:14, 15B (ESV) 3) UNFORGIVEN And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 1 Corinthians 15:17 (ESV) 4) Not going to HEAVEN. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 1 Corinthians 15:18 (ESV) 5) A sad person who is LIVING a lie! If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 15:19 (ESV) Because Jesus Is Alive I'm Unstoppable Because… 1) I know that God is FOR ME! What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 (ESV) 2) Jesus died & LIVES AGAIN for me! He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32 (ESV) 3) Jesus makes me RIGHT with God. Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Romans 8:33-34 (ESV) 4) Jesus will NEVER leave me! Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 (ESV) The Gospel In a Nutshell God: The one and only God, who is holy, made us in his image to know him. He is the creator of all things, perfect, holy and worth of our worship & obedience. He is love and in the end will judge all sin. 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27 (ESV) Man: All people, though created good, have become sinful by nature, we sin and cut ourselves off from God's love and grace. (Gen. 3) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 (ESV) 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8 (ESV) Christ: Is God in human flesh (John 1:1), lived a perfect life, died on the cross, thus fulfilling the law & taking on himself the punishment for our sins.(Mark 10:45; John 1:14; Heb. 7:26; Rom. 3:21-26, 5:12-21) He rose again from the dead, showing that God accepted his sacrifice 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 (ESV) 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10 (ESV) Response - How Can I Give My Life To The Living Christ? Establish Your Spiritual B.A.S.I.S.! B = Believe Jesus died on the Cross for me and showed He was God by coming back to life again. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- (John 1:12) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace (Eph. 1:7) S = Switch to God's Plan for my life. "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:15) I = Inform others of your decision. That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) S = Submerge yourself in Christ. Life Under the Sun Part 12: The End of the Matter By Louie Marsh, 11-13-2022 1) SERVE GOD while you can. “1Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;” (Ecclesiastes 12:1, ESV) George Gallup has pointed out that if you were born in 1900 you would barely outlive your midlife crises - the average lifespan then was 47 years old! The father born in 1940 found the odds against his making it to retirement as the average life span was 63 years of age. But if you were born in 1980 you can expect to live until you are 73 years of age “35So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.” (John 12:35, ESV) 2) GET READY to deal with the challenges of aging. “2before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain, 3in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look through the windows are dimmed, 4and the doors on the street are shut—when the sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low— 5they are afraid also of what is high, and terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and desire fails, because man is going to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets—” (Ecclesiastes 12:2–5, ESV) It will be too late then to remember him, when the light of the sun and moon and stars is dim to your old eyes, and there is no silver lining left among the clouds. Your limbs will tremble with age, and your strong legs will grow weak. Your teeth will be too few to do their work, and you will be blind, too. And when your teeth are gone, keep your lips tightly closed when you eat! Even the chirping of birds will wake you up. But you yourself will be deaf and tuneless, with a quavering voice. You will be afraid of heights and of falling, white-haired and withered, dragging along without any sexual desire. You will be standing at death's door. And as you near your everlasting home, the mourners will walk along the streets. Eccl. 12:2-5 (NLT) TRADITIONAL FEELINGS AMONG THE AGED: Uselessness Feelings of guilt and regret Sometimes By Thomas S. Jones Jr. Across the fields of yesterday He sometimes comes to me The little lad just back from play The boy I used to be. He smiles at me so wistfully When once he's crept within It is as though he had hoped to see The man I might have been Bitterness and resentment Self-pity Fear 3) REJOICE that God is waiting for you. “6before the silver cord is snapped, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern, 7and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:6–7, ESV) How To Establish A Spiritual B.A.S.I.S. for Living B = Believe Jesus died on the Cross for me and showed He was God by coming back to life again. A = Accept Christ as Lord of My life and His free forgiveness of my sins. S = Switch to God's Plan for my life. I = Inform others of your decision. S = Submerge yourself in Christ. 4) CAREFULLY PREPARE to share what you've learned. “9Besides being wise, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge, weighing and studying and arranging many proverbs with great care. 10The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wrote words of truth.” (Ecclesiastes 12:9–10, ESV) 5) Don't ever quit LEARNING. “11The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. 12My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.” (Ecclesiastes 12:11–12, ESV) Choose what you read & watch & hear It's okay to read some junk, just make sure that's not all you read/see/take in 6) THE BOTTOM LINE: “13The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13–14, ESV) Take God SERIOUSLY! OBEY Him! Remember you are ACCOUNTABLE to God.
The Road to the Resurrection Part Four: The End of the Road -Resurrection! By Louie Marsh, 4-17-2022 Funny pics – last one “Good morning” WHAT WAS BEHIND THE STONE? 1) A Dead BODY. Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. Mark 15:44-45 (NIV) “1Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:1–6, ESV) 2) A Dead RELIGION. Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." John 6:28-29 (NIV) 3) A Dead way of SALVATION. “16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.” (John 3:16–19, ESV) EXCERPT FROM TALES FROM THE SCRYPT Jesus was dead…John and the women slowly walked off the hill called Calvary and back to where they were staying. None of them could remember the trip. They moved like wind up toys, to stunned and shocked to really comprehend what had happened. Mary the Mother of Jesus was tended too, and John left her with the women and went in search of the other disciples so that he too could grieve. Like him they were all in shock…The man they called Master was gone. The one they had followed for over three years was dead, and worse than that, had died on a cross like a common criminal. The one who they had hoped and believed to be Messiah was dead. How could they have been so wrong? They had seen the miracles and could not explain this even to themselves. It was dark outside now. A new day had begun according to the traditional Jewish calendar… The horror of Jesus death was beginning to take root in their minds. But now new horrors arose. What would they do? Where would they go? And how could they stay safe? Peter did not know. The big fisherman sat alone staring into the darkness. As black as the night was it did not even begin to rival the darkness of his heart. How he had loved Jesus and believed in him. Peter recalled all the miracles he had seen. He remembered the miracles he had taken part in. Even now he could feel the water beneath his feet as he walked on the Sea of Galilee. For just a moment he faintly smiled as he remembered the joy of those fleeting moments when he walked on the water just like Jesus. He shook his head ruefully remembering how fear had taken the place of faith causing him to slip into the waters. And then deep gratitude as he saw himself being pulled up out of the water again by Jesus. Jesus stood on the water that day as naturally and as easily as Peter did on the beach before putting out to sea. But now it was all over. The hope of Israel had been killed and it had all happened so suddenly. In a day and a half Jesus was arrested, tried, condemned, crucified and killed. Just like that the light of Peter's life had been snuffed out. Three and a half years of traveling, teaching, learning and serving wiped out and gone as if it had never happened. His mind was filled with verses from the Psalms he had learned as a child. 5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? The Sons of Korah had written, Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and 6 my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon--from Mount Mizar. Psalm 42:5-6 Why, why, why? The word kept echoing in his mind and he could find no answer to it. He also recalled the words of Jeremiah the Prophet when he wrote: 18 Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? Will you be to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails? Jeremiah 15:18 Bitter words indeed in Peter's mind. Had God failed him, or was this some sort of test like the one that Job when though? Had Jesus been deceptive, saying he was God's Son when he really wasn't? How could this be? He spoke like no man had ever spoke, did what no man could ever do, and yet he died just like every other man who had been crucified. Or could it be, Peter wondered, if his own base betrayal of his Lord was the cause of all this? Was God punishing him and others because of his lack of faith? Guilt rose up like a dark tidal wave and threatened to drown the forlorn fisherman. But Peter had missed the key to all this. He had forgotten the words that Jesus had addressed to them over and over again when he said,18 "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!" Matthew 20:18-19 THE MOVING STONE 1) Only GOD could have moved it! And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Luke 24:2-3 (ESV) 2) Why was it moved? Not to let Christ OUT. Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." John 20:26 (ESV) But to let us IN! But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6 (ESV) THREE POSSIBLE REACTIONS 1) UNBELIEF While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers and said, "Tell people, 'His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.' Matthew 28:11-13 (ESV) 2) WONDERING Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. Luke 24:12 (NIV) 3) BELIEF Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. Renewal – Life Lessons From Nehemiah, #7 Covenant– Neh. 9-10 By Louie Marsh, 10-25-2020 5 Pics as Intro. When the wall was finished Israel renewed their COVENANT WITH GOD. “32“Now, therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day…38 “Because of all this we make a firm covenant in writing; on the sealed document are the names of our princes, our Levites, and our priests.” (Nehemiah 9:32, 38, ESV) WHAT IS A COVENANT? COVENANT (Heb. berît, “cutting”). The term applied to various transactions between God and man, and man and his fellowman. In Obadiah it is rendered “allied.” In the NT the word diatheke, “disposition” or “will” respecting a person or thing, is used; sometimes it is translated “Testament”, at other times “covenant.” Application of the Term. Properly used of a compact between man and man; either between tribes or nations or between individuals in which each party bound himself to fulfill certain conditions and was promised certain advantages. - The New Unger's Bible Dictionary. In The New Covenant God Has Promised… 1) A new HEART AND SOUL – Regeneration. This would involve the giving of a new heart (a new inner control center where the issues and direction of life are determined) and the new nature (a new favorable disposition toward God consisting of the law of God in the heart). “33For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (Jeremiah 31:33, ESV) “26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26, ESV) 2) FORGIVENESS of sin. “34And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”” (Jeremiah 31:34, ESV) “25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.” (Ezekiel 36:25, ESV) 3) The indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT. “27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” (Ezekiel 36:27, ESV) 4) The Spirit POWER. “13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV) 5) Jesus will never LEAVE ME. “19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” (Matthew 28:19–20, ESV) 6) Freedom From THE LAW “1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. 2Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you…4You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.” (Galatians 5:1-2, 4–6, ESV) 7) Every SPIRITUAL BLESSING in Christ! Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Christ, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that heaven has to offer. Ephesians 1:3 (GW) HOW CAN I ENTER THIS COVENANT? Col. 4:2 Don't be weary in prayer; keep at it; Col. 4:2 (LB) Pray for 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. John 17:1-5 (ESV) Pray for Don't forget to pray for us, that God will open doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I'm locked up in this jail. Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here. My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. 16 And when this letter has been read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea. I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. Col. 4:18
DiscipleShift 2020 #1 What It Really Means to Follow Jesus By Louie Marsh, 6-14-2020 1) It all begins with Jesus CALLING ME 9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. Matthew 9:9 (ESV) 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. Luke 5:10-11 (ESV) Jesus INITIATES the call to Discipleship. 19 We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19 (ESV) How do I answer his call? Establish My Spiritual B.A.S.I.S.! B = BELIEVE Jesus died on the Cross for me &showed He was God by coming back to life again. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Cor. 15:2-4) A = ACCEPT Christ as Lord of My life & His free forgiveness of my sins. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- (John 1:12) S = SWITCH to God’s Plan for my life. "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:15) I =INFORM others of your decision. That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) S = SUBMERGE yourself in Christ. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:26-27) 2) As a Disciple of Jesus I am… A FOLLOWER 19 And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” Matthew 8:19-22 (ESV) A DEVOTEE of Jesus 66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the Twelve?... John 6:66-70a (ESV) Meanwhile, a Pew Research Center summary of recent research spotlights the main reasons Americans don't attend church: 24% cite personal priorities—including 16% who say they are too busy. 24% mention practical difficulties—including work conflicts, health problems or transportation difficulties. 37% point to an issue directly related to religion—including disagreements with the beliefs of the religion or their church leaders, or beliefs that attending worship services is not important. 3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (ESV) Pope Francis Interview: “The church sometimes has locked itself up in small things, in small-minded rules. The most important thing is the first proclamation: Jesus Christ has saved you. And the ministers of the church must be ministers of mercy above all. “We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. “The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently. Proclamation in a missionary style focuses on the essentials, on the necessary things: this is also what fascinates and attracts more, what makes the heart burn, as it did for the disciples at Emmaus. We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proposal of the Gospel must be more simple, profound, radiant. It is from this proposition that the moral consequences then flow. Need to be Gospel Centered, dangers of Moralism A LIFE LONG learner 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (ESV) Someone seeking personal 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (ESV) 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)

Authentic Spirituality, Pt. 5 God’s New Way To Be Human, Eph. 2:11-22 By Louie Marsh, 5-26-2019 To Build an Authentic Spiritual Community I must… 1) REMEMBER the foundation we all stand on. WHAT I WAS before I came to Christ WHY should I remember this? This is the exact opposite of what everyone would tell you today? 11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Ephesians 2:11-12 (ESV) Separate from Christ Excluded from God’s Family "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, Isaiah 42:6 (NIV) Israel had forgotten they were called to witness to the world of God – and were judging, calling slurs like uncircumcised, dogs etc. Modern Church?? Without hope and God What CHRIST HAS DONE for me. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13 (ESV) Through His Blood! When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30 (NIV) 2) UNDERSTAND our unity in Christ. Peace is found ONLY IN CHRIST. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility Ephesians 2:14 (ESV) PICTURE OF TEMPLE – SHOW ON CUE! Christ fulfilled the Law AS A WAY TO GOD. 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, Ephesians 2:15 (ESV) . the basic sense cause to be idle or useless, the term always denotes a nonphysical destruction by means of a superior force coming in to replace the force previously in effect, as e.g. light destroys darkness "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17 (NIV) the basic sense put down, loosen, of buildings w. their stones destroy, demolish, dismantle (MT 27.40); fig. as invalidating an institution such as law or sacrifice do away with, annul, abolish His Purpose – TO MAKE US ONE. 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. Ephesians 2:16-17 (ESV) The Cross is THE GREAT LEVELER. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:18 (ESV) Here we have one of the greatest accomplishments of the Cross, past forgiveness anyway. All of us come to Christ the same way – or at least we’re supposed too. So there’s no place for pride or arrogance, because we are lost sinners without Christ and saved by Grace through Him. All of us have to establish our Spiritual Basis if we are going to be Authentically Spiritual. We must… B – Believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again. A – Accept Him as my personal Lord & Savior. S – Switch (repent, turn around) from a self directed life to a Christ directed life. I – Inform others of my decision – confess Christ publicly. S – Submerge myself in Christ through Baptism. 3) ACCEPT our status in God’s New Community. CITIZENS of God’s Kingdom 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints… Ephesians 2:19a (ESV) MEMBERS of God’s Family. and members of the household of God, Ephesians 2:19b (ESV) LIVING PARTS of God’s Temple. 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:20-22 (ESV) My Foundation – NEW TESTAMENT Centered on CHRIST Holy = SET APART SPIRIT FILLED
THE DAY THE UNIVERSE CHANGED 4-21-2019, by Louie Marsh Intro. Next series 2 slides, 3 cartoons, soldiers at tomb last one. Title from a PBS series, that I enjoy watching even though I disagree with it a lot. He says the universe changes every time we discover something new. It doesn't - gravity worked long before Isaac Newton! But there was a day in which the universe changed forever. It was a day nearly 2000 years ago. We're here today to celebrate it! But before we can understand the new universe, we've got to look at the old one. I) Some Harsh Realities Death RULES over my life! 4 Anyone who is among the living has hope--even a live dog is better off than a dead lion! 5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. Ecclesiastes 9:4-5 (NIV) 1, Everyone knows that they WILL die. 2, If your past 30 then your carcass is decaying at an ever increasing rate! a, Wrinkles, failing eyesight and hearing, etc. prove this! Death Destroys ALL MEANING! 16 For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered; in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise man too must die! 17 So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. 18 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. 19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 2:16-19 (NIV) 1, Education, morality, wisdom, etc. don't change our common end - death! 2, All our hard work goes to someone else - cause your gonna die! a, It won't be all that long until not a living soul will know that you lived - or care! 3, So why bother? Don’t Despair – God gives HOPE! 31 I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! 32 What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” 1 Corinthians 15:31-32 (ESV) 14 Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from Death? O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting?... Hosea 13:14 (ESV) 1, A vague hope of a day when the universe would change 2, It isn't until the New Testament that we see fully what this change would be. II) The Universe is Changed Through JESUS! 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,… 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:3-4, 18-21 (ESV) 1, It never fades! - 1:18-21 a, in the new universe hope lives, and isn't sunffed out by death! 2, This hope comes via the Resurrection of Jesus 3, We have this hope when we're born again through the mercy of God. I’m FREE FROM FEAR because Death has been Defeated! 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Revelation 1:17-18 (ESV) a, Jesus holds the keys to death and hades 1, key = control, power over, Lordship. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 (ESV) a, Death is no longer the end of it all. Jesus Christ is the SOURCE of this living hope! 1, The Living Lord Jesus! He is the one, through His Resurrection, that brings meaning and hope into our lives! Hope is no longer wishful thinking - it real! 2, That's all well and good - but what about the people and problems I've gotta deal with tomorrow! How does all this help me? III) The Results of this hope - Resurrection Living! Living BEYOND 8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. 11 You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:8-11 (ESV) 1, You can live beyond your own resources through the Resurrection Power of Jesus Christ! 2, No matter how bad it gets - faith and hope in the God who raises the dead will see you through! 3, This comes through the Resurrection Power of Jesus! a, What kind of power is that? You live with UNSTOPPABLE POWER! 3: 10 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Philippians 3:10 (ESV) 1, Paul and the early Christians, were unstoppable! a, Why? 2, Because no matter what you did to them - they won! a, This is the reality of that Yuppie saying, "A win - win situation." b, If you jailed them - they witnessed, if you let them go - they witnessed, if you killed them - they rejoiced to see their Living Lord! 3, The reality of the Resurrection can turn any situation into victory in all our lives! a, If we will claim it by faith! How Do I GET This Power? But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:8-10 1, By faith - not by works!! a, We're saved by God's mercy - grace, not by being good enough! 2, By confessing Him! How To Establish A Spiritual B.A.S.I.S. for Living B = Believe Jesus died on the Cross for me and showed He was God by coming back to life again. 15:2-4) A = Accept Christ as Lord of My life and His free forgiveness of my sins. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- (John 1:12) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace (Eph. 1:7) S = Switch to God’s Plan for my life. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15) I = Inform others of your decision. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) S = Submerge yourself in Christ. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:26-27)
