Ingrid Nilsen was one of the quintessential YouTube stars of the 2010's, known for her candid, girl-next-door style videos about makeup and "boyfriend-approved" outfits. Then one day, she quit YouTube, saying goodbye to her 8 million followers and the fortune that came with them. Now, Ingrid runs a fragrance company, The New Savant, that she co-founded with Erica Anderson. She gets a paycheck, but it ain't that YouTube money. This week's episode with the delightful Ingrid Nilsen is all about embracing discomfort, sitting with pain, and finding the beauty in it all. Ingrid shares the challenges she's faced on her path and talks about a moment laying on the kitchen floor where she realized staying the same was scarier than making a change. It's a conversation about showing up as REAL, being who you are and claiming your story authentically. It requires slowing down to be with yourself, finding meaningful connections, and cultivating all parts of yourself. More from Ingrid on the 'gram @ingridnilsen and her podcast, One Step. Welcome to One Step, a podcast about the arc of change and transformation hosted by YouTube personality Ingrid Nilsen. This is what you can expect from the show.
In this episode, I interview Ingrid Nilsen and cover a wide range of topics including her journey with YouTube, her relationship with makeup and acne, to exploring her sexuality and coming out online. We talk about the small but growing trend in media and advertising away from Photoshop and using only one body type, and the excitement and importance of this shift. An area she has recently become very interested in is body hair and I loved exploring this topic with her. I find it mind-boggling that we (myself included) have been trained to find this naturally occurring part of our humanity as gross and unfeminine. Other topics we cover: Female Periods Perfectionism Curiosity and Judgement I think you will love it!
