The day had come on March 22nd, 2025... the day we crowned the greatest dish in Chinese Cuisine for 2025! It was a hotly contested battle, voted on by about 60 members of our audience on a beautiful night in Chinatown. Cohosted by myself and the folks from The Worst Quality Crab Podcast and the On Waverly Bookstore, it was truly a fun night! I hope you were able to join us live, but if you weren't, here's our recording. Mark your calendars for next year, we'd love to do another round with lots of your favorites that didn't make this year's list! So many people to thank: Jon for helping me come up with the idea, and Freesia and Sam Lee for adding fuel to the fire and bringing their audience along! To Cynthia and Jenn for providing a beautiful, inviting place to have it. My friend Steve for running the Zoom, as well as all the staff at On Waverly for keeping things in order and providing prizes and snacks. And, of course, to everyone who was able to make it down, we couldn't have had this without your votes! Hallyu means the Korean Wave, which is the nickname given to the phenomenal embrace of South Korean pop culture around the world! The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is surfing that wave by bringing in a collection of pop culture pieces. Costumes from your favorite K-dramas, a recreated set from the movie Parasite, stage outfits worn by K-Pop stars, and much more grace the galleries in the museum. I was lucky enough to meet up with the museum's Korean Art curator, Yoon Jee Choi, and she gave me an after-hours VIP tour. And lucky for you, I was able to record it, so you get to come along too! The Hallyu exhibition is going on only until January 6th. So hurry and come down. The Asian Art Museum is located in the Civic Center of San Francisco. The days/hours of operation are Thursday-Monday usually from 10-5 PM, but on Thursdays, the museum is open from 1-8 PM. It's free to go on the 1st Sunday of every month. You can get a membership for under $120, which lasts a year and allows you to bring another person with you, so that's a great deal! You can find out more over at https://asianart.org/ or follow their Instagram @asianartmuseum Special thanks to my favorite curator Yoon Jee Choi! And thanks also to Freesia from the Media Relations Department. There's no recipe on this episode, instead we talk about a whole dang cookbook! We could not be more thrilled to have guest Kristina Cho, James Beard Award winner, creator of EatChoFood, author of a New York Times Top 10 Best Cookbooks of 2022 Mooncakes and Milk Bread and forthcoming cookbook Chinese Enough! We talk with Kristina about how Chinese Enough came to be, some of her favorite recipes (in the moment) from the book, and what it means to be Chinese enough. She also talks about growing up in a restaurant family, the best non-dinner party dinner parties, and how her Midwestern upbringing manifests now in her California life. Plus we talk about the enduring importance of fresh fruit for dessert, weirdly specific (and false!) book reviews, and of course, Costco. Freesia gushes the whole time. Chinese Enough is available for pre-order wherever you get your books. Freesia insists you go order it now so you can hug it later.

Can you please help him find something similar? For context he also love Architect's Club, Sycomore and Montabaco. Thank you for your help with this. Dawn says: “The opening of aldehydes, with the merest touch of mint and green cypress give the fragrance a shining, ‘pearly'- opalescence along with a natural, ‘lake side setting' that continues throughout the design. For the heart, I created a rice powder and a steamed jasmine rice accord; each given a creamier feel with a light hand of vanilla. The drydown is a soft bed of hinoki, cedarwood, and pine. The entire fragrance for me has the feeling of ascension: of flying ever skyward toward the celestial realm through clouds, pastel colored by the setting twilight sun.”All of the profits from the sale of Biwa will be donated to Robert's husband, Ron. Biwa is a gift of love to the memory of our dear friend and a loving tribute to his ‘perfumed' imagination.
In a slight deviation in programming, we're sneaking in at the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with our first non-Asian guest! This episode we bring on long time friend of Freesia's and #1 WQC super fan Nicole Fox. Despite her non-Asianness Nicole almost always finds something relatable to her own life and experiences in our episodes. Because maybe food is the great equalizer and maybe growing up not white in this pretty white society is weird, no matter what your culture. Anyway, on this episode we talk about her dad's weekend breakfasts of chorizo and eggs, how the loss of an elder can be felt for generations, and, surprise surprise, how cooking your own culture's food can be super intimidating. Plus we talk about store bought tortillas as feminist icons, how the Mission-style burrito is superior to all others, including its superior delivery technique—a hill we're both ready to ☠️ on—and Mexican v Spanish chorizo (and an honorable mention to soyrizo

Freesia lost on the mountain on the coldest snowiest night of the year
Creating the impossible, Elvis, Freesia born, Building the Shed and the snowcats roads, and the first winter.
We're biased but this is an especially fun one for us! We're talking to loooong time friend of the show, designer Crystal Chin, about her mom's Big Fat Rice Noodle Roll (official, technical title). We talk about growing up ethnically Chinese and culturally more Burmese, translating being a maker of things into cooking, and how crucial (and time consuming!) the seemingly insignificant pantry staples are to making certain dishes successful and more accessible. Plus, finding forgiveness in food as a love language, Freesia having her mind blown about the things she could potentially learn to cook and stop ordering out for, and Sam lays down a Best Cousin cooking gauntlet. We told you it's fun! Get the recipe!
It's a switcheroo this time as Freesia gets a taste of her own medicine when she scoots into the hot seat and Sam grills her on vegetarian moussaka. It's a distinctly non-Asian dish and with it's many components and steps, it's a diversion from quick weeknight dish. We talk about growing up vegan in the 80s and 90s, a cost-benefit analysis of improvising on special nostalgic recipes, and the unfair maligning of tofu.
Freesia and Sam welcome you and discuss the origins of the show and title. For more stories and recipes, please visit worstqualitycrab.com and follow us on Instagram @worstqualitycrab.
ow do we stay up when we ride a bicycle? Lots of us can do it without even thinking about it, but probably very few of us can say exactly HOW we do it. Well, CrowdScience listener Arif and his children Maryam and Mohammed from India want to understand what's going on in our heads when go for a cycle, and how we learn to do it in the first place. Presenter Marnie Chesterton is on the case, tracking down a neuroscientist studying how our brains and bodies work together to keep us balanced whether we're walking or trying to ride a bicycle. She learns about the quirks of bicycle engineering from researchers in the Netherlands who are part of a lab entirely devoted to answering this question. In the process falling off of some unusual bicycles and uncovering the surprising truth that physics might not yet have a proper answer. And we peer deeper into our brains to find out why some memories last longer than others, whether some people can learn quicker than others and the best way to learn a new skill. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed or intimidated by the makeup on beauty youTube videos and assumed knowledge they can often make, then you might be very interested to learn more about it.In this episode, Sharon gives real insight into the world of working as a YouTuber including the steady growth of success over almost a decade rather than (as we keep coming back to) being an overnight success, knowing her husband was the one from the first date (after dodging his calls for a few weeks!) , her post-baby crisis decision of cutting a fringe, and the cheapo cleanser that stops all her breakouts.Since we spoke, The Online Makeup School has properly launched offering thorough, easy-to-understand and follow tutorials across a range of subjects for a super affordable price - some from $20 to the most comprehensive at $200. This is not sponsored or I haven’t been asked to spruik this, but I think it’s such a good and valuable resource and there’s also a discount available at the moment too, so it’s worth checking out if it's of interest.Follow Sharon:Instagram: @hellosharonfarrellYouTube: Sharon FarrellOnline Makeup School: Follow host Brittany Stewart:Instagram: @brittanybeautybts @beautyislandpodcastEmail: beautyislandpodcast@gmail.comSubscribe to It's A Beauty!
Hiya hi! This is Neo-Queen Terra and thanks for checking out my new podcast! It's not much now and we still don't have any idea what we're doing but I hope you enjoy it. This episode isn't really an episode but me testing out if everything is going great so yeah..... it's kinda um.... crazy...... yeah...... so anywho don't really judge us on this one because like I said I'm just testing it out so we are being dorks...... Well thanks for trying us out! Later! OH OH! Forgot to tell ya what music I had in the show. Because I figured you all would go insane if you just listen to us for 30 minutes straight so I added some music in it to give ya a break from us. The music in this is what I like. It's my taste, not the Space-Age Playboys. Yes I do have some interesting taste in music but who doesn't? Anywho the list of songs! Ellegarden- "Space Sonic" Okay I'm addicted to this band at the moment. They're this Japanese Punk Band that I just love. This song is my fav by them. Gackt- "Freesia" I love Gackt. I'm gonna marry him some day. Yay! Moon Hee Jun- "Drug" One of my favorite Korean singers. I was gonna say rocker but there that whole H.O.T. thing and yeah...... Olivia- "Grapefruit Tea" I picked this song on random and OMM! It's sooooooo pretty. Me likey! hide- "Space Monkey Punks from Japan" Okay how can I call my podcast Space Monkey Punks and not include the song I took the title from. Oh by the way, these songs are for sampling purposes only. I including them to spread my love for asian music and for people who may not have heard it can be like "hey that's cool." So be cool and support the artist by buying there cds on sites like amazon, yesasia.com, cdjapan, and such. Later!
