It can be totally different. 一起来看看这些有趣的例子吧!(1)夫妻肺片→ Husband and Wife's Lung Slices其实这就是steamed beef and ox offal (牛肉和牛杂) in chili sauce。 It's called century because it's preserved (被保存) for a long time. Century(世纪)这个词确实是such a funny way to exaggerate (夸张) the time。 Do you need to actually cross a bridge to eat it (过桥才能吃吗)?其实这道菜的背后有一个动人、浪漫(romantic)的故事:a wife used to cross a bridge to bring hot noodles to her husband, which is a long haul (路途遥远),当这位妻子把米线送到的时候发现已经凉了。 现在过桥米线里面也会把各样的食材放进滚烫的汤里煮,the boiling soup is a must (沸腾的鸡汤是灵魂所在)!(5)佛跳墙→ Buddha Jumping Over the Wall传说(legend says)这道菜太香了,连佛都会跳墙来品尝(even Buddha jumps over a wall to eat it)! It's kind of hard to say all the ingredients.(6)蚂蚁上树→ Ants Climbing a Tree主播Maelle表示:听到菜名就已经觉得痒痒的(itchy)了。It likes someone is tickling you It looks like little ants climbing on a tree. 很多菜的名字其实都是根据它的样子(based on the visual)命名的。It leaves a better impression (更加印象深刻)!(7)狗不理包子→ Dog Won't Care about This Bun一家老板的绰号(nick name)叫“狗子”,他忙到没空搭理人(so busy he didn't even care to talk to customers),店里卖得包子因此而得名。但是“狗不理包子”这个名字会让我们觉得it's not good that even the dog won't care about。 Menus are a type of public service 大家在看到奇怪的菜名时,先不要害怕,可以勇敢地试一试(be adventurous)——your taste buds (味蕾) will thank you. What is your favorite dish with an interesting name?

You will know Brian from his TV work on shows including Horizon, The Planets and Solar System alongside his BBC Radio 4 programme, The Infinite Monkey Cage.  Brian, who was born in Oldham, joins us to blow Nick and Angela's minds and chat about his new stage show, Emergence. Tickets are available now for the world tour.  This episode is powered by curiosity, including Brian's own desire to learn how to cook Dover sole. Step forward Angela Hartnett who takes Brian under her wing at the counter to help create our dish of cider-steamed Dover sole & clams. This is paired with a glass of Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, Domaine Gérard Thomas, celebrating Brian's love of wine and, in particular, a white Burgundy.  Our biggest questions get answered across this chat. Steamed interview questions? They're clearly grilled. We are so thrilled to have had Bill Oakley join us on the show. If you're unfamiliar with Bill and his work, let me share a little more from him directly: Bill Oakley is an Emmy-winning writer and producer best known for his iconic work on The Simpsons, where he co-ran the show during its critically acclaimed seventh and eighth seasons. He co-created the cult classic animated series Mission Hill and has contributed to other beloved shows like Futurama and Portlandia. Bill's cultural impact extends beyond television—he wrote the “Steamed Hams” scene, a segment from The Simpsons that evolved into a viral meme, earning the title of Meme of the Year in 2018 from Know Your Meme. In recent years, Bill has transitioned from showrunning to the culinary world, where his sharp humor and love for American food have made him a sought-after voice in the industry. A regular contributor to the History Channel's The Food That Built America and a guest on Afternoon Live, Bill combines storytelling with culinary expertise. His collaborations with prominent chefs like Robert Irvine and J. Kenji López-Alt have further solidified his voice as a notable comic voice in American food culture. Bill and I dove deep into his transition to the world of food, as well as getting an upclose look at the creation of the famous Steamed Hams scene and so much more. Nothing special to talk about this week, so we can knock this one out quickly. New Year's Evil: Some killer who has given himself the nom de plume "Evil" calls into the host of a "punk rock New Year's Special" that Steve says does not feature any punk rock. Mr. "Evil" says he's going to kill people, then he does, but in an uninteresting manner. In a twist no one could see coming, "Evil" turns out to be the DJ's husband and he wants to kill her because she has metaphorically castrated him. So, there kinda was a wiener twist after all. New Year's Evil final grade: Steve Not a good movie. There were plenty of things to make fun of about it, so that was nice. That couldn't save the overall product, though. Steamed that the music sucked so much. 1.7/5.0 Brandon Another movie the writers were unable to make anything. It wasn't thrilling. It wasn't gory. It wasn't scary. The only thing it inspired you to do is write haikus about it. For example: New Year's killer rings People get killed, but who cares Punk rock can't be heard 1.6/5.0 Cocktail of the Week: Happy New Year 1 1/2 oz Brandy 3/4 oz Ruby Port Wine 3/4 oz Orange Juice Champagne/Prosecco/Sparkling Wine Combine non-bubbly ingredients in a cocktail shaker, strain into whatever style champagne glass you have. No garnishes. Pour it, and drink it. Cocktail Grade: A nice little twist on the classic New Year's glass of bubbly. Weirdly had kind of a chocolate flavor. Make it if you want to put in the effort to have something more flavorful than straight-up champagne. 4/5 ------------------ Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to: boozeandbmovies@gmail.com X: @boozeandbmovies Instagram: @boozeandbmovies Threads: @boozeandbmovies www.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/support

Bob's Short English Lessons
Learn the English Phrases "to run out of steam" and "to be steamed"

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases TO RUN OUT OF STEAM and TO BE STEAMEDIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to run out of steam. When you run out of steam, it means you're really tired after working for a long time or maybe hiking all day or doing something that is a bit exhausting. Yesterday I worked really long. I worked till it was really late last night and I ran out of steam. At around 7:30 I thought, you know, I should just go in, have a shower, maybe watch the Blue Jays game, because I was starting to get... I was just exhausted. My muscles hurt. I was laying blocks by the house. I'll show you that job when it's done. But I definitely ran out of steam. So to run out of steam means to be out of energy, but usually because you did something that was physically exhausting.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe other phrase I wanted to teach you today is to be steamed. When you're steamed, it simply means you're angry. Like you could say, oh, I was late for work five days in a row, my boss was steamed. It just means that your boss was really, really angry. When you say someone is steamed, it means they are not happy and sometimes not happy with you.So to review, to run out of steam means to be tired or exhausted, to be physically and mentally just done like you have no more energy left. And to be steamed simply means to be angry. Or maybe you eat your vegetables that way. The other day I ate steamed broccoli. The broccoli was steamed. So obviously it has other meanings as well. But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Vitor. Hello Bob. When you and Jen are at the market, do you notice what kind of flowers people like the most? I mean, different strokes for different folks. I don't think people will have preferences because all the flowers you produce are beautiful. You know, maybe it is good to know if one kind of flower is selling more than another. Thank you, Bob.Mohd chirps in: I'm also wondering what their best seller is. Probably peonies and lizzies. And then my response: It changes as the season progresses. People love to see the bouquets slowly change week to week. Like see different flowers in them. If we had the exact same flowers every week, people would get a bit bored. So sunflowers all season long, but peonies, then zinnias, then dahlias and then lisianthus are how the season progresses and changes. So thanks Vitor for that comment. And yeah, so we do have flowers that kind of, as the season goes along, become more popular. And people do like variety. People do like to see different flowers. So at this point in time, the Lizzies are starting to bloom. The dahlias are actually starting to bloom at the same time. But the question is, which is the most popular? You know, variety is the most popular. People like to see different flowers from week to week. They don't mind, like zinnias, lizzies dahlias. They don't mind buying the same flower.I think I just walked through a spider web with the camera. They don't mind buying the same flower for a few weeks, but not longer than three or four weeks. And then they're, you know, we're humans. We like to see new things. We like to experience new things. So certainly sunflowers, we just use all the time. They're kind of like a mainstay. You would say it's a pretty common flower. But throughout the rest of the season, people do like to see a little bit of variety and a little bit of change, especially towards the fall. They like to see more what we would call fall colors, colors like browns and deep oranges. Support the Show.
