Advise, the automated data, analytics and AI platform provider helping retail manufacturers and brand-owners to unlock revenues and margin growth, has launched a new GenAI-powered agent. The expert GenAI assistant has been trained by Advise engineers to enhance customer decision-making, giving them competitive advantage. It represents an €8M investment by the Dublin-based company in the development of its AI platform. Advise's GenAI agent is a major update to the company's AI-powered SaaS platform and can help brands to reach actionable insights 10X faster than previous methods. The platform collates and harmonises sales, inventory and customer data from multiple sources into a single platform. The Advise analytics engine filters out data noise, identifies key patterns and presents the most critical information in real-time. The customised GenAI agent further enhances this process by translating complex analytics into clear, natural language explanations and recommendations, turning statistical outputs into human-digestible insights. The latest release was created by Advise's Dublin-based engineering team, using a customised and trained large language model (LLM). While more widely available LLMs are typically limited to chatbot-style interactions, Advise's agent moves beyond this. The GenAI agent has been trained to augment the role of the category manager - the expert responsible for understanding product performance and optimising new product, pricing and promotion strategies. In doing so, the platform empowers consumer-packaged goods (CPG) brands such as Kerry, Dr. Oetker, Pilgrim Food Masters, Tayto and Britvic, to take decisive action that will result in revenue growth. Advise has programmed the customised GenAI agent to work from a structured set of instructions and best practices. With the ability to personalise its output according to each customer, it can detect market shifts, anticipate trends and deliver guided and relevant insights tailored to business needs. The agent also ranks, through a News Feed on the Advise platform, its insights based on relevance and urgency, ensuring users receive tailored, high-value recommendations on their next steps. Kevin McCarthy, CEO, Advise, said: "Many businesses are still focusing on data collection and analytics, but we have moved beyond that. We have automated data processing and evolved GenAI to augment and act as a valuable assistant to category managers; turning data into insights and decisive actions that drive margin growth and competitive advantage. "At Advise, we believe that the future of category management isn't just about gathering more data; it's about making smarter decisions, faster. Our new GenAI agent doesn't just analyse; it anticipates. It learns, adapts, and prioritises what matters most for each brand, providing tailored recommendations that translates directly into growth. It enables users to move beyond spreadsheets and dashboards to proactive decision-making. "LLMs are hugely powerful and are impacting every industry, but their output is non-deterministic and they suffer from creative hallucinations. This can make them unsuitable for numeric and statistical analysis unless carefully managed. What we have created is the next generation of CPG decision-making: where you don't just gain trustworthy information, but a strategic advantage using GenAI. In a world where speed and precision define success, this is how the best brands will stay ahead." See more stories here.
"What's occurring?" is an expression regularly used in one of my favourite TV shows, which finally ended this Christmas. Gavin and Stacey was one of those shows where you cared about everybody. When discussing the show with people, you realised that the characters' names were on the tip of their tongues, and each person had their own favourite. This is the sign of a good storyline created by great writers who have developed fully rounded characters. People you care about, as opposed to cardboard characters you see in lots of movies and TV programmes. Of course, none of the above would be possible without a cast of actors who could put flesh on the bones of each person. I would have liked to have attended one of their house parties on the show. They were great events full of music, laughter and bonhomie! The Irish House party: When I listen to Irish people discussing their childhood, they all remember the house parties where everyone sang and played a musical instrument, even if it was just the humble comb with some paper wrapped around it. These were times when, as they would say now, we had nothing, but managed to enjoy ourselves from time to time. All that was needed was an excuse: the afters of a wedding, a funeral, friends and family up for the match, a christening. We just want to get together to provide some short-term relief from the Ireland of our past. It would appear now that "we're a great little country", but we need to be careful not to forget who we are and where we came from. When did you last have a group at your home for an evening of fun and music? The event I'm talking about does not need to be a significant, costly event which requires a lot of time and effort. Why not have some friends and relatives over for a beer, wine, and snacks. With just a plate of sandwiches or very dodge pizzas, (Tayto cheese and onion constitutes a snack), tell some stories, perhaps sing a few songs, recite your favourite poem or reminisce about family and friends. Now, I hear the objection: we can't drink and drive, and of course, you can't. But you could hop in a taxi, the cost would still be less than an indifferent meal in a pub or restaurant, which provides little or no interaction or stimulating conversation. Come on, take the plunge! Tell people what's occurring and have a good time for yourself and those you who have not seen in an age. By Executive Coach Andrew Keogh of Aristo.ie

The Tayto crisp is an Irish icon. A cultural staple, a core part of our diet. So, needless to say when things change, we get worried. Very worried. And when we saw that Tayto had brought out a new flavour, we were curious. Especially when we discovered that it was a fizzy cola flavour! Carol McGaghy from Tayto joined Dermot and Dave to explain where the idea came from, what they taste like...and of course, we asked her to bring back some of our old faves!
This week, we decided to revisit a classic episode from the NeighbourFood podcast archives. As you may have heard, the World Potato Congress that was recently hosted in Dublin, we felt this was a topical and fun episode and a fun look at Ireland's love affair with the humble spud. Throughout this episode we have with lots of contributors who tell us why this is. We speak to food writer John McKenna of McKenna's Guides about Ireland's romantic connection to the food that let us down in our past and yet how we return time and time again, like a faithless lover to the spud we love so well. Did you know the process of flavouring crisps was invented here in Ireland? That's right and Tayto Crisps are responsible for the world-famous cheese and onion flavour! We tracked down Peter Murphy, son of Joe “Spud” Murphy, the founder of Tayto who told us about his entrepreneurial dad, his Peter Pan existence and that Ah-Ha moment when they stumbled across the much-loved Cheese and Onion flavour combination. There are small farmers throughout the country growing potatoes for their local market. We speak to Maria Flynn of Ballymackenny Farm Potatoes who taking over the family farm, realised they were never going to survive on glowing Roosters and Queens alone. So they took a chance on growing heritage and heirloom speciality potatoes and targeting chefs with their more unusual produce. When the pandemic hit, they lost 100% of their customers overnight, so we hear their story of survival. Now, do you think it's possible to live on Potatoes alone? We find a man in India who claims to do just that. The Aloo Baba lives in the mountains in Pushkar, India and eats 10kg potatoes a day!!!! That's some feat, but he claims it keeps him young and gives him clarity. Vikrant Naidu, chef at The Lodge, Myrtleville, Cork steps in to translate and also gives us an insight into the culture of potatoes in his home county of India. And finally, potatoes are far more than a carbohydrate on our plate, they also make an interesting ingredient in spirits, such as Poitin. Michael O'Boyle of Baoilleach Distillery in Donegal explains why spuds were sometimes used in the mashbill of poitín makers back in the day and when he chooses to continue this tradition in his own poitin collection “Mulroy Bay”. Enjoy this spudcast full of poppy love. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A fun look at Ireland's love affair with the humble spud with lots of contributors who tell us why!We speak to food writer John McKenna about Ireland's romantic connection to the food that let us down in our past and yet how we return time and time again like a faithless lover to the spud we love so well. Did you know the process of flavouring crisps was invented here in Ireland? That's right and Tayto Crisps are responsible for the world famous cheese and onion flavour! We tracked down Peter Murphy, son of Joe “Spud” Murphy, the founder of Tayto who told us about his entrepreneurial dad, his Peter Pan existence and that Ah-Ha moment they stumbled across the much loved Cheese and Onion flavour combination. There are small farmers throughout the country growing potatoes for their local market and we speak to Maria Flynn of Ballymackenny Farm Potatoes. After taking over the family farm, they realised they were never going to survive on glowing Roosters and Queens alone, so they took a chance on growing heritage and heirloom speciality potatoes and targeting chefs with their produce. When the pandemic hit, they lost 100% of their customers overnight, so we hear their story of survival. Now do you think it's possible to live on Potatoes alone? We find a man in India who claims to do just that. The Aloo Baba lives in the mountains in Pushkar, India and eats 10 - 12 potatoes a day!!!! That's some feat, but he claims it keeps him young and gives him clarity. Vikrant Naidu, chef at The Lodge, Myrtleville, Cork steps in to translate and also gives us an insight into the culture of potatoes in his home country of India. And finally, potatoes are far more than a carbohydrate on our plate, they also make an interesting ingredient in spirits, such as poitín. Michael O'Boyle of Baoilleach Distillery in Donegal explains why spuds were sometimes used in the mash bill of poitín makers back in the day and why he chooses to continue this tradition in his own “Mulroy Bay” poitín collection. We hope you enjoy this spudcast full of poppy love. Lee's Cook's Own Book (1832), both of which explicitly cite Kitchiner.-A legend associates the creation of potato chips with Saratoga Springs, New York, decades later than the first recorded recipe, by George Crum. At Moon's Lake House he was trying to appease an unhappy customer on August 24, 1853. The customer kept sending back his French-fried potatoes, complaining that they were too thick, too "soggy", or not salted enough. Frustrated, Crum sliced several potatoes extremely thin, fried them to a crisp, and seasoned them with extra salt. To his surprise, the customer loved them. They soon came to be called "Saratoga Chips",a name that persisted into the mid-twentieth century. -The potato chip remained otherwise unseasoned until an innovation by Joe "Spud" Murphy, the owner of the Irish crisps company Tayto, who in the 1950s developed a technology to add seasoning during manufacture. After some trial and error, Murphy and his employee Seamus Burke produced the world's first seasoned chips: Cheese & Onion and Salt & Vinegar.-The first flavored chips in the United States, barbecue flavor, were being manufactured and sold by 1954.-Not going into the differences between the American "chip" British "chip" as in fish and chips, and even differences between chips and crisps, which even invades Canada.
