Hey Hey beautiful people here is this weeks Radio Rewind in High Definition Sounds The paradise sessions - Discos Revenge returns this Sunday with @markymmp on @cruise_fm 10 am - 12 pm UK cruise FM. So in Sundays's program I will paying tribute to Roy Ayers the “Vibes Master” who we sadly lost on the 4th March. His music inspired me to play more Jazz Funk in my sets and his amazing journey across 6 decades of amazing music gave us the soundtrack to our lives. The Who? Roy Edward Ayers Jr. (September 10, 1940 – March 4, 2025) was an American vibraphonist, record producer, and composer. Ayers began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several studio albums with Atlantic Records, before his tenure at Polydor Records beginning in the 1970s, during which he helped pioneer jazz-funk. He is a key figure in the acid jazz movement, and has been described as "The Godfather of Neo Soul". He is best known for his compositions "Everybody Loves the Sunshine", "Lifeline", and "No Stranger to Love" and others that charted in the 1970s. At one time Ayers was listed among the performers whose music was most often sampled by rappers. Shortly after falling asleep, 20-year-old Jacqueline Russell woke up to use the bathroom. She groggily padded down the stairs. Jacqueline expected to see her father home from his nightly walk, but the house was eerily quiet. Shandy, the family dog, was pacing anxiously back and forth in the back garden. It was around midnight, and Jacqueline was immediately worried for her father… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED *** This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, additional audio editing, script editing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.More information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Quiet Desperation Part 2 by JCar Nuclear Conception by Alice in Winter Darker Days by Alternate Endings Pursuit Of Wonder by Caleb Etheridge Evidence Board by CJ0 Apex Program by Cody Martin Arcadia by Cody Martin Artisan Craft by Cody Martin Etheria by Cody Martin Forbidden Wing by Cody Martin Legend Of Eleven by Cody Martin Sabotage by Cody Martin Gravity by Caleb Etheridge Left For Dead by Wastelander Crooked Man by Wicked Cinema Disappearance by Wicked Cinema Harvester by Wicked Cinema SOCIAL MEDIA: https://linktr.ee/TheyWalkAmongUsSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. Portland's Iconic Collective FEDERALE released their sixth studio album, "Reverb & Seduction" on Jealous Butcher Records and also marking the band's 20th Anniversary. In the 20 years of their existence, Federale has carved out a unique niche within the indie music landscape, blending their signature spaghetti-Western instrumental sound with increasing doses of moody vocal arrangements in the spirit of Lee Hazlewood and Leonard Cohen. Through it all, I spoke with songwriter and lead singer COLLIN HEGNA – who also spent the last 20 years as a dues-paying member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre – maintains a strictly retro vibe. Federale's records have always sounded period-correct for an alternate-universe 1971, where rock and roll never caught on. Earlier, the band released the lead track, "Heaven Forgive Me" and "No Stranger" a song that pays homage to the legendary Lee Hazlewood. Recorded at Hegna's Revolver Studios in Portland, this album was engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn, who boasts five 5 Grammy Award winning albums. The album was mixed by Hegna with Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets) and Matt T.To watch the interview on You Tube : https://www.youtube.com/@DJNocturnahttps://federalepdx.comhttps://linktr.ee/FederalePDX

This episode is my second interview with John Mabry. In this episode we focus specifically on his music and his newest album, No Stranger. As you will hear in the episode, John has a brain tumor that can be removed, but the result will be that it will make him deaf. So, the airing of this episode of John's music is especially pertinent and poignant. I am deeply honored and blessed that John reached out to me as one of his last interviews before his surgery. This new album is powerful and has much to teach us about God and our faith in Jesus Christ. The Reverend Dr. John R. Mabry is a United Church of Christ pastor specializing in interim ministry. But he is also an author, songwriter, spiritual director, and seminary professor. He is the author of more than 40 books, writing on spirituality, spiritual direction, and theology, but he also writes science fiction and fantasy. John is a veteran of two progressive rock bands—Mind Future and Metaphor—but in the last few years has released a string of solo albums. His latest is called “No Stranger,” and it is available on BandCamp and all major streaming services. He lives with his wife and three Boxers in the foothills of the Catskill mountains in New York. You can learn more about John and his recent creative activities from his website, johnrmabry.com The intro and outro music for this episode is from a clip of a song called 'Father Let Your Kingdom Come' which is found on The Porter's Gate Worship Project Work Songs album and is used by permission by The Porter's Gate Worship Project.

When you think of Iran, do troubling thoughts or fears come to mind? Iran has been back in the news, and concerning developments cloud the region. But there is an encouraging story that's playing out in Iran. It's about the miraculous growth of Christianity in a country where it has been suppressed and persecuted. Tat Stewart has a unique vantage point to share that story. Tat grew up in the land of Iran. He knows and loves its people. He also knows what the Church in Iran was like before the Islamist Revolution in 1979, what it went through during the revolution, and how it persevered in the decades following. Tat has a front row seat to recent Christian history! In this encore episode, Tat joins the Christian Emergency Podcast to share these valuable insights. Those lessons help us better understand the past and another culture. But they also help us understand our own day and pressures aligning against the Church. Tat recently wrote a memoir titled No Stranger: to Iran, its People, and its Church. Listen as he shares from this book and offers a perspective few westerners possess. In this round, your hosts of Beer Thursday celebrate the release of Billy Joel's first new song in 30 years. We explore the collaboration with Freddie Wexler, who took on the role of lyricist due to Billy Joel's struggle with writing words. We also discuss whether not writing their own lyrics diminishes an artist's credibility, comparing Joel with other famous artists like Elton John, Vince Neil, and Elvis Presley, who didn't write all their lyrics. We appreciate how Billy Joel managed to maintain his singing capabilities at age 74 and express hopes for a new album release. Dr Kapila has extensive experience in global and public health, international development, humanitarian affairs, conflict and security issues, human rights, diplomacy, and social entrepreneurship, with substantive leadership roles in government, United Nations system and multilateral agencies, International Red Cross and Red Crescent, civil society, and academia. His work has taken him to some 120 countries in all continents. Originally schooled in India and England, Dr Kapila graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford and received postgraduate qualifications in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Since 2012, Dr Kapila has been the Professor (now Emeritus) of Global Health & Humanitarian Affairs at the University of Manchester, UK, where he also founded and chaired the Manchester Global Foundation. Since 2020, he is also Senior Adviser to the Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean, the principal forum for 29 national parliaments of the Euro-Mediterranean region, deliberating on the creation of the best political, social, economic and cultural environment for fellow citizens of member states. He also serves as an adviser on several international bodies, including on the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Antimicrobial Resistance for the World Health Organization. After an initial clinical career (1980-1984) in hospitals and general practice in Cambridge, and then in public health (1984-1990), including initiating and leading the first National UK HIV/AIDS Programme, Dr Kapila joined what is now called the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in 1990 where he oversaw British aid health programmes in Asia and Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, followed by a spell based in Central and Southern Africa. Dr Kapila was seconded by the UK Government to the United Nations in 2002-03, initially as Special Adviser to the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Afghanistan and then to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. He then became the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Co-ordinator for Sudan (2003-04), leading what was, at the time, the UN's biggest operation in the world. In 2004, he arrived at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva as Director of Emergency Response, handling major operations such as the Indian Ocean Tsunami. In 2006, he joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the world's largest humanitarian and development network serving in different roles such as Special Representative of the Secretary General, Director of Policy and Planning, and finally as Undersecretary General where he oversaw several transformations and strategic interventions to scale-up programming. Dr Kapila has also served in many policy advisory roles, conducted strategic reviews and formulated new programmes with several other international agencies such as the World Bank, UNAIDS, International Labour Organization, UN OCHA and ISDR, as well as served on the Boards of the UN Institute for Training and Research, the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, and the International Peace Academy. He was an early member of the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination System. He returned to the United Nations in 2015-2016 to serve as Special Adviser for the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, and then in 2018-2019 to found and direct the innovative Defeat-NCD Partnership at the UN. Additionally, he has been active in several civil society groups including chairing the Council of Minority Rights Group International, and chairing the Board of Nonviolent Peaceforce that was nominated for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. When you think of Iran, what comes to mind? Troubling thoughts and fears? That would be understandable, given recent headlines from the Middle East. But there is an encouraging story that's playing out in Iran. It's about the miraculous growth of Christianity in a country where it has been suppressed and persecuted. Tat Stewart has a unique vantage point to share that story. Tat grew up in the land of Iran. He later served there as a missionary and pastor. He knows and loves its people. He also knows what the Church in Iran was like before the Islamist Revolution in 1979, what it went through during that turmoil, and how it persevered in the following decades. Tat had a front row seat to recent Christian history! Tat joins the Christian Emergency Podcast to share these valuable insights. Those lessons will help you better understand our Christian history and cross-cultural missions. They will also help you better understand the dynamics at play in the present day. Tat recently wrote a memoir titled No Stranger: to Iran, its People, and its Church. His insights are more fully captured in those pages, so you should get your hands on a copy. Listen, read and learn from this fascinating perspective; a perspective few westerners or Christians possess. In this episode, Simone, Maki and Julian bust out their ceramic sake-ware and chat with TWTT's Yakimono Guru, Robert Yellin. No Stranger to the TWTT audience, and well known to many pottery collectors, and 'Sake Today' readers around the world, Robert has been residing in Japan since 1984. Robert has been a valued core member of the TWTT community since its founding year, 2020. In that same year, Robert helped to launch TWTT's sister project, MTA (Meet the Artisan). Fewer and far between compared to TWTT session, the MTA sessions introduces potters and artisans from Japan, all whom create sake vessels amongst other beautifully crafted vessels and creations. Pottery was not what initially brought Robert to Japan, but somehow, slowly but surely, his path led him to become one of the world's leading experts on Japanese pottery. What started with curiosity, appreciation and a humble personal collection, turned into a deeper curiosity, tireless and continuous research, endless appreciation, a deep connection and respect, a bigger personal collection, an online store, lectures, articles and book publications, all which led to him opening the most beautiful gallery space in Kyoto - showcasing a rotating and stunning collection of ancient treasures and modern masterpieces. Robert's knowledge is extensive and his passion is infectious. It's always a joy chatting all things pottery - AND sake, (and drinking sake), with him. We hope you enjoy our chat! If you're travelling to Kyoto, be sure to pay a visit to Robert Yellin Yakimono Gallery, right on the Philosopher's Path, not far from Ginkakuji, (the Silver Temple). In a world that's unraveling from climate disruption and gaping inequality, another climate crisis confronts us: the climate of hate and othering. Award-winning scholar and educator Valarie Kaur says to overcome racism and nationalism, we must not succumb to rage and grief. As someone who has spent much of her life challenging horrific injustices and intolerance, Kaur learned the lesson that historical nonviolent change-makers understood: social movements must be grounded in an ethic of love. She founded the Revolutionary Love Project, and has emerged as one of the most important voices of the American Sikh community, and a highly influential faith leader on the national stage. Valarie Kaur, born into a family of Sikh farmers who settled in California in 1913, is a seasoned civil rights activist, award-winning filmmaker, lawyer, faith leader, and founder of the Revolutionary Love Project, which seeks to champion love as a public ethic and wellspring for social action. “Wonder is the root of love, the lack of wonder is the root of violence.” Is there a way to create boundaries with someone who wishes to cause harm? Can you love them and hold them accountable? Do you have to fight for a just world for everyone? Valarie Kaur is no stranger to violence. As a Sikh, as a woman, as a person of color, violence has shaped both her activism and her deep sense of community care. Her Revolutionary Love Project is the blueprint for organizers, activists, and really - anyone in love with the world and what it could be. We cover activism, wonder, horror, grief, acts of violence, acts of justice, parenting in an age of rampant school violence, healing family wounds, building true community - and why fighting for love and pleasure is always going to be more sustainable than fighting against hate. “I spent the last 20 years organizing my life around hate and I want to spend the next 20 years organizing around love. Delta Air Lines soared twenty-eight spots up the 2023 Fortune 500 to reach number eighty-five. Demand for air travel is bouncing back to and beyond pre-pandemic levels, and Delta's earnings are bouncing back along with it. Delta reported $51 billion in revenue in 2022, a 69% jump from the previous year. This is not the first time CEO Ed Bastian is leading Delta through a period of bouncing back. Bastian took over as CEO in 2016, but he has been in the airline's leadership ranks for twenty-five years. This means he has led the company through some seriously tough times, including 9/11, Delta's 2007 bankruptcy declaration and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode of Leadership Next, Bastian joined hosts Alan Murray and Michal Lev-Ram for an in-person recording in Fortune's studio. Bastian shares which crisis he found the hardest to lead through and how Delta is planning to meet this summer's unprecedented demand for air travel, which he refers to as "revenge travel." He also explains why the airline has done away with change fees and what Delta is doing to bring free WiFi onboard every flight. Additionally he shares his thoughts on the pushback against "woke ceos" - a label that's been attached to him in the past. We also hear from Bastian on developing more fuel-efficient aircraft, how Delta is using A.I., pilot and flight attendant shortages. Leadership Next is powered by Deloitte.
