What if being wealthy was all about rewriting the mental software we run on? My guest today is John Purkiss. He is the author of a truly wonderful book, a best seller called the “Power of Letting Go.” John has had a successful corporate career first, learned mindfulness later, only to combine both in his later and current pursuits. John studied economics at Cambridge University and began his career in banking and management consultancy. He then completed his MBA at INSEAD, where won first prize. Within three months John was diagnosed with clinical depression, which nearly proved fatal. He began searching for a solution, which led him to learn mindfulness and become an executive search consultant, recruiting senior executives and board members. He also began to invest in high-growth companies. John then learned Transcendental Meditation. In 2014 he met his guru, SPH Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam. http://johnpurkiss.com In our conversation, we delve into how childhood experiences shape one's identity and leave a lasting impact on life. John highlights that traumatic childhood events can create pain patterns that drive success but may eventually lead to breakdown. We explore two approaches to life: living through the mind or surrendering to a higher intelligence. Embracing and merging with this higher intelligence can result in a natural life flow and magical outcomes. There's a notable connection between consciousness and wealth; a shift in consciousness can enhance abundance. Our beliefs and expectations about money can impede our ability to manifest wealth. By disengaging from thoughts, or "unclutching," we can access a state of pure consciousness. Pain patterns or incompletions, stemming from past experiences, shape our beliefs and behaviors. Recognizing and releasing these patterns can transform our external reality. John emphasizes that hard work alone isn't enough for success; a higher intelligence can guide us. While Western views often suggest that matter creates consciousness, Eastern traditions argue that consciousness is the source of everything, with matter being an epiphenomenon. Practices like meditation tap into this underlying consciousness that drives everything. Accessing a higher intelligence can provide answers to difficult questions. Letting go of the need to be right and considering different perspectives fosters understanding and growth. John concludes that true success means living in enlightenment, fulfilling one's potential, and manifesting health, wealth, and relationships. Today I welcomed John Purkiss to the podcast After our initial exchange, I asked John to share about his personal journey of letting go. He described how, in his mid-twenties after recovering from clinical depression, he wrote the bestselling book "The Power of Letting Go" in Hindi and Spanish. His experience was that the key is to identify the root feeling that troubles you, such as not feeling good enough. For me, that earliest memory was being told at age 6 that I was not worth getting flowers for. John explained that the first step is to intensely re-live the episode where that core feeling originated. For me, it was being told at age 6 that I was not worth getting flowers for. By intensely re-living that episode multiple times, the pain can eventually be released. John has done this process repeatedly, going back to the age of 1, to find and resolve his deepest root feelings. He walked me through an example using my memory of being told I wasn't worth flowers. John instructed me to close my eyes, revert to being 6 years old again, and vividly re-experience that moment of concluding I was not good enough. By allowing the emotions to surface and leave my body through this re-living process, the pain diminishes over time. John has methodically worked through his own root patterns this way, all the way back to age 1. The goal is to uproot and liberate ourselves from these deep core beliefs that drive so much of our suffering and dysfunctional patterns, like eating disorders. His new book on this completion process will be published next year, after the success of "The Power of Letting Go" in multiple languages. Minter Dialogue with Banahasta To ring in the new year, and before I get back into the brand new episodes for 2024, I wanted to re-release this powerful conversation with the fascinating John Purkiss (MDE474). John is also known as Banahasta, which is short for Sri Nithya Banahastananda. This spiritual name was given to him by his guru, HDH Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam, known to his followers as Swamiji. John is also the author of three books, including the bestseller, "The Power of Letting Go: How to drop everything that's holding you back." With an accomplished background, the highest credentials, Banahasta works as a partner at August Leadership, a global executive search firm. In this chat, we discuss John's remarkable journey to become Banahasta. It's an important question: would you rather play music OR carry a dead body? Luckily, Brendan sits down the amazing John Purkiss, to find out. Purkiss is a speaker, coach, and author of the fantastic book, The Power of Letting Go. The two get into: what it's like being the only person in economics with a soul, John's 3-step process to letting go, the difference between letting go and giving up, reliving to relive, why all problems are internal, why we're just like bamboo, surrendering to the Supreme Consciousness, and a New Casual Friday which involves hooking up with all your co-workers. Can we really 'not think'? Can we really turn our over-thinking chaos into a cognitive oasis of calm and bliss? And can we really turn the internal volume down to zero? In this interesting chat with John Purkiss, we explore these questions and more. John is the author of 'The Power of Letting Go', a Cambridge educated academic, a spiritual seeker and teacher and just like you and me, a perpetual work in progress. We are all so used to the idea that if you want anything you must go after it with all your strength and conviction, alas this leads to frustration and disappointment when things don't go as we had planned. John Purkiss in his book The power of letting go, suggests we take a leaf out of eastern philosophies that value focusing on the present and surrendering outcomes to our intuition and the universe.

He completed his MBA at INSEAD in France, where he won first prize. John was then diagnosed with clinical depression, which nearly proved fatal. Having understood that intelligence and hard work did not guarantee happiness and success, he began to look for solutions, while working in the UK, Belgium and France. He was living in Paris when he finally learned to be present, let go and ask to be guided. His life suddenly changed for the better. John was soon in the perfect job – in London – achieving his financial goals with ease. He then learned Transcendental Meditation and began to write. However, he realised that everyone was stuck in one way or another, whether it was in the areas of health, wealth or relationships. Finally, in 2014, he met his guru, from whom he learned the completion technique, described in chapter three of both The Power of Letting Go and Learn to Let Go – a Guided Journal.MORE INFORMATION: http://www.johnpurkiss.com/#JohnPurkiss #LearnToLetGo #InspiredLiving #MarcLainhartVisit the Inspired Living show page https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/inspired-living-radio/Connect with Marc Lainhart at http://www.marclainhart.com/Subscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazineConnect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/
On the show we are exploring the process of being the observer, and why it is a useful technique for self-discovery and resilience. There are a couple of techniques that I use to connect with the observer. But why is it useful? Observation, we watch people go by, and we watch for traffic when crossing the road, but what about watching our thoughts? One of the challenges of being human is that we stick to what we know, what we want or what we have experienced. It is hard to let go of ideas both past and present and see the hear and now. But when we let go of the pictures, we create space for something new. It is our ego that demands that we hold the picture or stick to what we know. So how do we let go when it is our desire to hold on? One answer is to practice being the observer of our thoughts. It is the foundation of mindfulness practice and one of the tools explored in the Book “ The Power of Letting Go” See my podcast from Wednesday with John Purkiss. How to be the Observer The best place to develop the observer is in mediation, but there are other options. I found running was the best place for me. It's rhythm and movement, but for me, the location is also important. What I noticed from being the Observer both in my running and using it during a repetitive task is that when I get to that place my mind is pretty silent I don't have the chatter the judgements and things have dropped, it is incredibly peaceful. The point is developing a practice of mind observation provides a tool that can be used in a stressful situation where it can bring clarity and open the door to fresh thinking.
If you listen to my show on Sunday you would have heard that this podcast is 5 years old in January. and it's time for a change. We have a few shows left in the current format that will come out between now and the end of December. It's funny when we consider changing or letting go of the familiar there's an element of fear that turns up and the urge is to step away from that edge. Of course, we just need to let go and move forward. But that reminded me of the show with John Purkiss “The power of letting go.” It was back in 2020 and was one of those inspiring and long conversations, so long that I split the show into two parts you're about to hear part 1 as a re-upload. It is about overcoming depression mindfulness and how to get the life you want. The link to the previous listing and part 2 of that conversation is here. What if surrendering was not giving up or being lazy but actually granting us access to an intelligence far greater than our own? Could letting go of control, pain and thoughts lead us to our highest self and our best life? What if the answers we are searching for are not external to us, but internal, and already present? These are some of the questions considered in this week's episode with John Purkiss, author of “The Power of Letting Go: How to drop everything that's holding you back”. In the first part of the show we hear John's own starting over story: how he achieved “success” both academically, as a graduate of Cambridge University and INSEAD, and professionally, in his career in banking and management consulting. But at age 26 he was diagnosed with clinical depression which nearly proved fatal. And yet it is something he now describes as a ‘gift' because of the new path it set him upon. In the second part of the show, we consider the themes in his book “The Power of Letting Go”, including surrendering, letting go, pain patterns, feeling stuck and a technique called completion - which involves re-living experiences which cause pain, agitation or disturbance within us in order to release them. Join me and the bestselling author The Power of Letting Go, John Purkiss, as we discuss the powerful habit of Completion as it relates to learning to let go and live in The Flow. John grew up in England and studied economics at Cambridge University. He began his career with The First National Bank of Chicago and completed his MBA at INSEAD in France, where he won first prize. John was then diagnosed with clinical depression, which nearly proved fatal. He realised that he didn't know how to live a successful and fulfilling life. John began to look for answers while co-founding a software company and working in sales and marketing – in the UK and continental Europe. One day he learned to meditate while reading a novel. He let go and asked to be guided. Within six months he was in the perfect job, achieving his financial goals with ease. John now recruits senior executives and board members for a wide range of companies. He is also a co-founder of Enlighten Ventures. His latest book is called The Power of Letting Go. It describes the completion technique, which he learned from his guru SPH Sri Nithyananda Paramshivam (known as Swamiji) in 2014. Neked melyik önismereti módszer vált be eddig legjobban? Welcome to the second part of my conversation with John purpose. To bring you up to speed if you have missed the first part. John got to the point in his life where he realised someone else was in control. We were 40mintes in and only just got to the success model. It was such a rich conversation I did not want to edit so hence the part two. What is clear is that once he decided to surrender to the process to move forward, everything changed. The results of that was he secured a job that paid £125000 and year. That is 150000 + US Dollars from my American friends. In 1997 in the UK that was a cracking salary and I'm sure it was a pretty good salary in USA. We go on to talk about meditation, mindfulness and transcendental meditation. Our conversation was boundless in a way explored how his books pour out of him, and that never suffers from writers' block. There was the discovery of a guru that completely changed his life, by showing him the process of completion. It was this process that to the book the power of letting go. The point is we are all reacting out of past pain moving beyond that pain is a path of personal release and would change the world.
