This week Luke Winter brings the word as we jump into our next sermon series, the Holy Spirit. The spirit is a member of the Trinity and as the church, we should know about it and be in fellowship with the spirit. Our Prayer at Kalamunda is this message equips you with the power and authority that the spirit brings.
Unfortunately, the preacher that was meant to preach this week was unable to preach, so Brad introduced the church's connect groups. Here at Kalamunda, we value connection and community. So if you are interested in joining a connect group that meets throughout the week and meets to join in fellowship. Brad then goes into the importance of community and the need for biblical relationships to be fed into and to feed into other people's lives. We are sorry that the planned message isn't out and that there is a break in the devoted series. The preacher had a personal accident and is okay but couldn't deliver the message. Our prayer is this message empowers and encourages you to surround yourself with people who can support and love you.

Tim Phipps finishes the sermon series FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions), with the question, How do I know what God's Will is? How do you decern God's will in our lives whether it is in a small capacity or major life choices? What is the importance of decerning God's will in our lives? Well, Pastor Tim Phipps explores the answer addressing its complexities. But our lord is for us and wants to share his perfect will and plan for our lives, so join us as Pastor Tim delves into the word and what it says about God's will. Our pray at Kalamunda is that this sermon blesses you and brings you closer to God. Cause you are loved more than you know.
Five days after calling 6PR Breakfast in tears after her dog jumped out of her son's car window at a Kalamunda service station and disappeared after being hit by a car, Tonka has come home. A jubilant Anita told Breakfast fill-in host Michael Genovese on Tuesday that Tonka was a little injured and had lost a lot of weight but was back home and "so over the moon". "It's been a week today, so my son rang me at 6am this morning... he was found at St Brigids, and he was living in an al fresco area, and the residents there told [son] Chris that their security lights kept coming on every night, and that doesn't usually happen," she said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As we continued our sermon series on FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions), two brilliant questions came up. Is God male or female? How do we love someone and rebuke sin, when in rebuking someone's sin you are attacking a part of their identity? Although the question may be controversial Rod handles the questions well, with good biblical backing. Cause who else can we learn from but Jesus himself and the love and wisdom he displays? We at Kalamunda pray this message blesses you and brings answers to some of life's tough questions.
Earlier this week on Perth Live caller Jacqui raised her parental concerns as the 299 twice-a-day bus route that takes students to schools in Kalamunda was cut due to the new airport train line. Rita Saffioti, WA Transport Minister told Oliver Peterson that the delivery of the a train line is aimed at reducing the amount of bus' that run parallel to it. "There has been some consolidation of the bus route along Great Eastern Highway - work was undertaken to devise new routes to work with the train line," she told Oly on Perth Live. "For many students and people there is more direct access to their schools but there are some where that access has changed and there's been a need to swap between bus and train now. "We have had feedback so we are working with the agency to see if there is other tweaks we can make to the service and will be reviewing the situation over the next couple weeks." Rita Saffioti also responded to a second issue that was raised on Perth Live this week. Caller Jessica alerted Oly that there is a known issue between the Department of Transport database and Police database which has seen some cars appearing unregistered and therefore police will seize plates. "We've tried to interrogate this example - we understand there is a delay with BPAY between 2 and 5 days between payments - however there is a few things out of our control with how BPAY conducts themselves but I will talk to the Minister of Police if there is any sort of ability of proof of payment can be considered." "I've always had a personal passion about the rego stickers but every time I raised it to others, they said don't be silly Rita."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jacqui Gilmour shared her parental concerns on Perth Live as she explained told Oliver Peterson a twice-a-day bus route that takes students to schools in Kalamunda has been cut due to the new airport train line. Students have been directed to take the train first and then a bus, creating big delays for some students. "It is a bit disappointing as the service has been running for 50 years and suddenly it's gone," she told Oly. The 229 bus route which runs from Elizabeth Quay up Great Eastern Hwy, is just one of the busses that have been terminated, leaving students from Kalamunda High School, St Brigids College and Mazenod College having to find a new way to school. "Plenty of students hop on the bus on the way up the hill on Kalamunda Road, the kids stand like sardines on the last little segment towards Kalamunda Station. "It's about a 50 minute journey from getting the bus to getting to school and they're now suggesting we add another 30 minutes to that."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
David Hynes, a spokesman for Transperth responded to this story on Perth Live. "Some of the things are quite true, the route 229 has been removed as part of the airport line - because the best way to move a large amount of people quickly and efficiently is by rail. "However it has been replaced by a number of services, the Airport Line itself obviously but also route 940 between Perth and Redcliffe Station, also route 290 and 291 between Redcliffe Station and Midland Station via Guildford and route 275 between Wycombe Station and Walton Bay via Kalamunda Road. "So when you link those up, it will get you back up into the same area."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A thick blanket of smoke has covered Perth on Sunday afternoon, causing low visibility and air quality across the City. Prescribed burns carried out by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions prompted a smoke alert to be issued for Pickering Brook, Kalamunda and adjoining eastern areas of the Swan Coastal Plain through to the Perth CBD. The smoke is expected to clear overnight but Emergency WA urges people to take caution in these conditions. Residents have been told to shut their doors and windows and turn off any aircon to avoid inhaling the smoke, while motorists are advised to turn on their headlights and travel at appropriate speeds as visibility may be reduced. Michelle Prior, Director of Active Transport at the Department of Transport spoke to Oliver Peterson on Perth Live to discuss the roll out of 30kph speed limits on Norfolk Street in theCity of Vincent, Hector Street in the City of Stirling and Sussex street in the City of Kalamunda. "Safe active streets are a cycle route on a quiet, local street where we have essentially retro fitted some treatment to create an environment where cars and others drive at 30kph to create a safe street for everyone to use," she told Oly. "Some of the things that you would likely see is a single lane slow point, raised platforms at intersections, narrowing of the street widths by planting trees or delineate on street parking, we might change the stop or our big symbol that says 'safe active street' to indicate it's a changed environment." "We want to create an unfamiliar space for drivers so that intuitively you slow down , creating a safe place for people to ride their bikes, for kids to come out and play - it's all part of the design."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode, Shadé Zahrai interviews Julie Drago, CEO of Hero Properties, Non-Executive Director of Mendolia Seafoods and Director of Fairbridge Investments. Julie is a Member of the WA Divisional Council and Chair of WA Land and Infrastructure Committee of the Property Council of Australia. She is also a Committee Member of the City of Kalamunda. Valuable Discussion Points (01:25) What is the story of Julie's leadership journey? Julie's parents immigrated from Italy in the 60s. Her father established a large fabrication business. From a very young age she was very fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to work in the facility. This is where she developed her passion for fabrication and workshops in that industry. She built the business up and tackled huge projects all around WA. In the early 2000s, the family decided to concentrate more on developing industrial property, close and lease out the fabrication business. Over the next 20 years, Julie built large workshops and leased them out to mining, oil, and gas multinational companies. In 2019, she was appointed the CEO. (03:08) What were the barriers that Julie faced and practical ways she navigated her way through male-dominated industry and environments? Growing up in a male-dominated industry, Julie did not really work with a lot of women, apart from the administration roles. The biggest thing she learnt was that she needed to step up and back herself. Going into these environments, she would often be the only woman in the room. She had to learn to believe in what she was doing and what she was saying, so she could make her own voice that people would listen to. (04:09) Why does Julie feel that it is so important for women to embrace and amplify their natural skills? Julie thinks that women are naturally more empathetic. When women look at problems, they look at the problem from both sides of the argument and sometimes people can get caught up on trying to win an argument but being more open and understanding about where the other person is coming from enables women to be really good negotiators and that's how Julie tackle things all the time. (18:20) How does Julie use networking as a strategy for building relationships? The biggest thing is do your research before you go to an event like apart from get involved, go to events and find out where you can have some input. Use LinkedIn, get to know them and figure out who they are and then actively go up to them and say, look, I'm really interested in what you've done here and here and have that conversation. Don't try to be so random about it. Key Learnings Julie learned that she had to stop questioning herself. She struggled to put herself out there and really speak up. Women need to ask themselves, what can go wrong? Once women get over that hurdle, they will realise that they have got a voice, that they can use it and that it is very powerful. Some people can be so focused on the short-term gain, instead Julie shares that people need to think about a longer-term gain because relationships, trust, and rapport take years to build. When COVID first came and her tenants went to her for rent relief, she did not need the government to mandate it because they were already doing it. Anna added involvement to your respective industry body to the Leadership Toolbox. Start going to their events, participants and try to get onto some of their committees. Being part of that body enables you to lobby the government and figure out ways to try and make your business easier. Quotable Quotes “I've got a voice and I can use this and it's very powerful.” – Julie Drago “You can't literally win every deal. You know, they're going to win one. You'll win one that's it and that's life. You know, and if you think like that, you'll have a lot better relationship with your competitors.”– Julie Drago “There's no point complaining about something, get involved and be active about changing it.”– Julie Drago Important Resources and Links If you would like to learn more about how CommBank is ensuring women are advancing their growth in business, visit https://www.commbank.com.au/women-in-focus.html. This is another edition of SBL Shootaround you just don't want to miss as we look at the winners and losers in Round 4 of the West Coast Classic, name all of our mid-season award winners and have a chat with one of most loyal and consistent import turned local in the league. This week's Men's SBL Shootaround gets underway with a look at some of the thrillers of the weekend and the tight contests that the Willetton Tigers, Perth Redbacks and Goldfields Giants have been involved in over the opening four weeks. Co-hosts Chris Pike and Ben Ettridge then announce their mid-season West Coast Classic award winners including who they believe will win the Championship, MVP, Most Improved, Coach of the Year and be named in the All-Star Five and Next Gen Five teams. The Personality of the Year predictions might really grab your attention as Ben's selection is the very same supporter that got behind every team his Joondalup Wolves were playing in last year's SBL finals in pretty vocal and out there style. We then take a look at all the results in Round 4 of the West Coast Classic and give an update on the standings with five rounds remaining. It's then time for our special guest for this week and that is 289-game SBL veteran Corey Easley. Following his college career at the University of Montana and stints in Europe, he found his way to the Cockburn Cougars thanks to CJ Jackson in 2008. Aside from a year in Queensland and despite requiring a knee reconstruction that first year, he's called Perth virtually ever since. He has forged a fine professional career with stints at the Kalamunda Eastern Suns, East Perth Eagles, Willetton Tigers, South West Slammers, Perry Lakes Hawks and then back to East Perth and now Kalamunda, and wherever he's gone he has been a true professional and delivered big time. He has also made a family for himself down under, still keeps a close eye on American Football from here and has plenty of fascinating stories to share that you just have to tune in to listen to. We then take a look at Round 5 upcoming in the West Coast Classic and sign off on SBL Shootaround for another week.

This is the final episode of ontrail podcasts on Tim's 2018 Bibbulmun Track hike. Listen to this podcast as Tim travels from Dwellingup to Kalamunda to complete his 36 day, 1000km trip. Over the next two weeks I will be releasing two final podcasts to wrap up this trip as well as uploading two written articles so keep an eye out!
The Bibbulmun Track is one of Australia's premiere long trails stretching 1000km (621miles) from Kalamunda on the outskirts of Perth to Albany on the southern western Australian coast. Given the distance covered there is a wide variety of ecosystems represented on the trail from coastal sections in the south through constantly changing forests that highlight some of Australia's most spectacular flora and fauna. In this episode we will be talking to Steve Sertis from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation about how the track came about, the role of the Foundation, and some key takeaways on hiking this spectacular trail.

Foundations of Amateur Radio Today I'm going to talk about housekeeping, that is, the things you should be doing while you're doing the things you like doing, like making noise on air. The topic of Logging is one that continues to attract comment, suggestion, frustration and on occasion ridicule. Let me start with the fact that the very first contact that I made was not logged. I can tell you exactly which day it was, Sunday, April 17. I can tell you where I was, Stirk Park in Kalamunda in Western Australia. I can tell you that the other station was a Japanese station, but that's all I can tell you. I don't know the time, the band, likely 10m or 15m, I couldn't tell you their callsign, even though I'm pretty sure that I wrote it on a random piece of paper at the time. It simply hadn't occurred to me that I should actually log that contact, or that I'd ever think back to that day and wonder whom I spoke with. So, if you've not yet been on-air, get your logging sorted out now. It doesn't have to be fancy, it can be your diary, a notebook, a binder, or a phone, tablet or computer with appropriate software, just actually start logging. Do it today. That out of the way, getting the entries stored somewhere, you'll soon notice that there are tools you love and tools you despise and that over time this changes. It also changes for different activities. If you're on the top of a summit or in a national park, you might just want a small notepad to log your contacts, but if you're in the middle of a contest you might just want to not have to worry about logging everything manually, you might just want to punch in the other station's callsign and their exchange. The point is that for every amateur activity there are different aspects of logging. If you're chasing island activations you'll need a spot for the IOTA number, but if you're actually on the island, others are chasing you, then a good contest log is likely all you'll need. So, I just said the magic word, good. What is a good log, what does it look like, which software should you look at? Well, as in everything in life, that depends. You're likely to change logging software across your amateur activities, either because you have come to dislike the one you're using, or because it no longer works on the current version of your computer, or any number of other reasons. When you're picking software, you should as the very first priority discard all logging software that does not allow you to export the log. If you cannot export, you're locked in and your data is very possibly lost at some point in the future, so only use logging software, if you're using software, that does an export. Now I did mention that you don't need to use software. Paper is perfectly fine, just a little harder to use if you want to check back and see when you worked a station more than once. It's also hard to use, actually, impossible to use, if you want to use Logbook Of The World, eQSL, clublog or any number of online contact verification tools. If you're looking to log during a contest, figure out if the contest is actually supported by the software, this will help you reduce the number of contacts you make that are invalid. For example, a contest might specify that you can only work a station every two hours. Relying on memory is not a good plan. Using a computer to do that is much more productive and reduces the number of contacts that are going to be tossed out by the contest manager - not to mention that some contests apply penalties if you log an invalid contact. A log that requires you to type in the frequency once is fine, but not if you need to type it in each time. If you're doing that on your phone, it'll get very tired very quickly. If your logging software won't work without an Internet connection and you're away from the net while being set-up as a portable station, you'll have all manner of issues, so consider that. So, what do I use? For most of my contest activity, at the moment, I use VK Contest Logger. It's somewhat frustrating to use on a small sub-note book, but it's pretty stable, allows multiple computers to talk to each-other and share band information, allows export, is lightweight, regularly maintained and runs on most Windows computers. My actual station log on my Linux Desktop is using CQRLOG which I use to remove duplicates and enter QSL information, export to Logbook Of The World, eQSL and the like. I use a notepad when I'm mobile chasing DX and enter the data in my station log. I've used WINTEST during contests, played with HRD and still have not found one that works well on my phone. It's a moving feast. I have different operating systems, Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Android, each for different purposes, but I've yet to find a universal one that integrates well across all that. What ever solution you pick, make sure you log your first contact. I'm Onno VK6FLAB
