Send us Fan MailWe sit down with Cassandra from Terrahaven Property Management to talk about what real leadership looks like when you're managing people, properties, and constant curveballs. We dig into troubleshooting, training juniors, work-from-home change, and the home boundaries that keep burnout from swallowing your career. • Cassandra's path through real estate roles and why property management sticks • Building trust by being a connector rather than pretending to be the expert in everything • Troubleshooting maintenance to avoid wasted call-outs and protect owner budgets • Making “I don't know” acceptable so juniors ask better questions • Setting support structures in-office versus working from home • Leading with check-ins and cues instead of micromanaging • Blended family systems, boundaries, and avoiding silent expectations • Linking a stable home life to a better client experience and less burnout • Small habit changes that reset a bad day before it becomes a bad week • Why peer-to-peer learning at Rebar feels more useful than event overload If anyone is listening to this and would like to reach out to Cassandra, find her on Instagram as well and say hi This podcast is kindly sponsored by The Associates Co. This week in construction: the official verdict on HS2 landed, and it's worse than most people realise. Cost to complete is now £87.7-102.7bn. First services delayed to 2036. Britain is paying 15-20x the European rate per kilometre for high-speed rail. But the more interesting stories happened underneath it.Owen breaks down what every construction executive needs to know about three things colliding this week.One. The AI cost paradox. Per-token prices have dropped 280x in two years. So why are enterprise AI bills exploding? OpenAI just doubled its flagship rate card. Anthropic raised prices without touching the rate card at all. The pricing page is no longer telling you what your bill will look like. And Jean-Marc Shimizu, who runs open innovation at one of Japan's top five contractors, says the subsidy era is ending.Two. The construction robotics story almost nobody outside venture capital is reading. After sixty years as the last unautomated sector, the robots are finally shipping. Bedrock raised $270m in February. Crewline took $7m as a four-person team with a $26m order book waiting. Rebar tying robots are running at 4-6x human speed. Solar piling, reality capture, and a new category of self-verifying installation robots are all generating real revenue. Plus the corrective on humanoids that most executives haven't heard yet.Three. HS2 and what it actually means. Three reviews, twelve months, same five conclusions. And the uncomfortable question every leader needs to sit with: is your business built like HS2, or like the alternative? If you run a construction business, this is the briefing that will reshape how you read the next twelve months.Plus details on the in-person fireside conversation with Chetan Kotur, the ex-Polestar designer now leading the team rebuilding Laing O'Rourke from the inside. ...with Ann-Kathrin Krause In this episode, Ann-Katrin Krause, a PhD student in educational psychology at the Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education in Frankfurt, discusses her research on the role of habits in students' learning strategy use, exploring why students often default to ineffective strategies like rereading despite knowing better alternatives exist. The conversation covers how environmental cues trigger habitual behaviours, the distinction between automaticity and effectiveness, and practical strategies like habit stacking and if-then planning. Ann-Katrin also highlights how teachers can foster effective study habits by embedding strategies into classroom routines. If you see a concrete structure of any kind, be it a building, road, or maybe piece of art, in all likelihood it's supported by rebar. While there are a few varieties of steel rebar, from the standard steel to epoxy coated, they all suffer from corrosion issues. Two doctoral graduates from MIT launched a startup called Allium Engineering a few years ago that's taking aim at that issue by manufacturing steel that's able to resist corrosion through an innovative stainless steel cladding process. The company says this technology can more than triple the lifetime of key infrastructure such as bridges, which would allow for significant cuts to steel and concrete production, two of the largest carbon dioxide emitting industries. To share more about Allium, how the company got started and the technology behind it, Allium's co-founder and CTO Sam McAlpine stopped by for a chat with ASME TechCast.

A look into the intriguing concept of "urban rebar," exploring its potential to redefine mission strategies within urban settings.Dave and Mark discuss how viewing cities as networks of interconnected people groups—much like the reinforcing bars in concrete—can enhance our understanding of urban evangelism. By examining the cross-sections of society, they aim to identify new pathways for the gospel to permeate diverse urban landscapes, advocating for both a focused and holistic approach to disciple-making in complex city environments.

During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology we're going to excavate what could loosely be called one of the crown jewels of the Hebrew Scriptures because out of all the passages of the Old Testament that are referenced in the New Testament, Psalm 110 is the one that's repeated the most often. Jesus uses it in Matthew's Gospel account to confuse a crew of condescending Pharisees; Peter uses it as one of his main points when he preached the very first post Easter sermon from the Southern Steps of the Temple during the festival of Pentecost after which thousands of people put their hope and faith in Jesus Christ as the resurrected Messiah; and the author of Hebrews devotes almost an entire chapter to this petite Psalm that was a perennial favorite of early Christians. However, it can be perplexing if you don't understand the prophetic nature of David's ancient lyrics. Which is why Ally, Dr. Howard and I are going to do our very best to wipe the fog off this biblical windshield because it's one of the keys to having a solid theological scaffolding and it's foundational to maintaining our hope about the future. So please grab a cup of coffee and your Bible – unless you're biting your fingernails because you just watched your sixteen-year-old pull out of the driveway and head toward school without you for the first time, of course – and come hang out on the porch with us.
