To keep y'all informed and entertained, please enjoy this LUNASHARK® Premium Soundbites Episode. True Sunlight returns this week on the public feed! Beth Braden's Soundbites episode from March 29 covers two of the most disturbing federal cases to come out of South Carolina in recent memory. Former State Representative RJ May — a Freedom Caucus leader who built a career demonizing progressives in the name of protecting children — pleaded guilty to distributing child sexual abuse material and was sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison. We break down how he was allowed to run for reelection while under federal investigation, why he fired his public defenders to represent himself, and the sitting legislator who wrote the court asking for leniency. Then we turn to former Charleston County Magistrate Judge James Benjamin Gosnell Jr., whose federal charges revealed allegations so depraved they defy comprehension. These cases expose a system that protects powerful men long past the point of reason. This week on the Ann and Phelim Scoop podcast, we spend April Fool's Day calling out the various fools we see in the world. Only they are not joking. And there are a lot of them. Sometimes it's hard to work out what the joke headline is and what the real one is.Speaking of fools and four-legged friends (do squirrels have four legs?), the BBC is asking if UK citizens love dogs too much! The piece on dogs is presented as very innocent and funny. However, it is actually deeply sinister when you realize they are trying to soften up the public to accept dog bans to keep the UK's huge Muslim population happy. Muslims consider dogs unclean, and as we all know, a multicultural society means doing whatever Muslims demand. And also on the podcast, Ann reveals a truth about abortion that no one wants to talk about. She exposes the horror of the abortion pill with the podcast's good friend, Marjorie Dannenfelser. Marjorie is the president and co-founder of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life organization and one of the best advocates for life in America today. Kermit Gosnell may be dead, but the horrific truth of abortion in America — especially with the unregulated use of the abortion pill — is ever present. Ann and Marjorie discuss where we are with abortion in America — the good news and the bad — from Dobbs to decriminalization. You won't want to miss their discussion. And also on this week's podcast, we bring you the latest on a new Hunter Biden documentary that is going to expose yet further criminality of the Biden family. It reveals how the Bidens sold out America and the IRS whistleblowers who almost lost everything because they believed everyone should be equal under the law.And this week we read some of our favorite comments from you guys. We love hearing your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions for stories. And as you can see, we have been able to do so many beneficial projects thanks to your generosity. We successfully crowdfunded our Gosnell movie, which opened people's eyes to the American horror story of abortion and changed so many hearts regarding the recognition of the unborn. We wrote our New York Times best-selling book: Gosnell: The Untold Story of America's Most Prolific Serial Killer. We also managed to produce Serial Killer: A True Crime Podcast, where you can hear Gosnell's voice defending the indefensible, along with interviews with his surviving victims and those who put him behind bars, in our top-ranking podcast on the case. Episode 223: The Weight of Truth in a Culture of Death In this sobering episode, we confront the devastating reality of a legal system and society that has severely degraded its understanding of morality. We discuss the harrowing recent case out of Georgia, where a 31-year-old woman intentionally took a massive dose of abortion pills at roughly 24 weeks. Tragically, the baby was born alive, struggled to breathe in the hospital, and ultimately died, all while the mother explicitly told medical staff, "I know my infant is suffering... I want her to die". Yet, in a shocking display of systemic failure, the presiding judge called the murder charge "extremely problematic" and set the bond at a mere $1. This overwhelming "culture of death" brings to mind the dark legacy of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell. We reflect on the grotesque reality of Gosnell's clinic, his conviction for murdering babies born alive by severing their spinal cords, and the unsettling injustice that he was allowed the dignity to recently die of old age in prison. We examine how these two deeply distressing cases are connected by a broken society that refuses to protect the most vulnerable. This is a heavy and difficult listen, but sitting under the weight of this truth is a necessary step to combating evil. We issue a passionate exhortation to parents and Christians everywhere to gird themselves with the truth, speak courageously against immorality, and deliberately teach the next generation to cherish the sacred, God-given gift of life. Note: Following the heavy subject matter, we end the episode with some important housekeeping. You can now visit our completely revamped website at carbidity.com. It's Thursday, March 26th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Christian ministries to send millions of Bibles into Iran Christian ministries are gearing up to send millions of Bibles into Iran. The country's Islamic regime persecutes Christians for sharing their faith or even privately owning a Bible. However, Bible smuggling teams are praying for new doors to open despite the war. Dirk Smith, Vice President at Eastern European Mission, spoke to CBN News. He compared this moment in Iran to the opportunity right before the Berlin Wall came down in 1989. Listen. SMITH: “Our prayer is that we're prepared. We're ready to go. And that was what happened when the wall came down in 89 the opportunity came, and when we pray, God will open those doors. That's what happened when the wall came down with the Soviet Union, we were able to walk in and distribute hundreds of thousands of Bibles.” In Colossians 4:2-3, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ.” Iran rejected peace deal with America Iran rejected a peace plan from the United States yesterday to pause the war in the Middle East. The conflict began nearly a month ago when the U.S. and Israel carried out strikes on the country. The Associated Press reports the death toll has reached over 1,500 people in Iran, over 1,000 in Lebanon, 16 in Israel, and 13 U.S. military members. The U.S. is sending more troops to the region in what could become a ground assault. U.S. Supreme Court rules for Mississippi street preacher In the United States, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a street preacher last Friday. Gabriel Olivier is an evangelical Christian who desires to share his faith with others. OLIVIER: “I was arrested outside of a concert amphitheater arena for preaching the Gospel on a public sidewalk.” However, the City of Brandon, Mississippi passed an ordinance to effectively silence his evangelism. Sadly, lower courts sided with the city. He even faced arrest under the ordinance. The Supreme Court's ruling now allows Olivier to go back to trial in the lower courts to challenge the city ordinance. He celebrated the ruling. OLIVIER: “The Supreme Court has ruled unanimously, 9-0 in our favor. And I just wanted to say thank you to first and foremost, the Lord, for answering our prayers. I also thank you for First Liberty, for representing me, helping me along the way, and doing such a great job. Thank you to all those who support First Liberty with your donations. That is a wonderful contribution to help the case of religious freedom here in our nation.” He added, "Now all people with deeply held Christian religious beliefs who are called to share the Good News can do so in the public arena.” Psalm 119:46 says, “I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.” Late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who killed born babies, died The infamous abortionist Kermit Gosnell died at a hospital earlier this month, according to prison officials in Pennsylvania. He was 85. Gosnell was serving three life sentences for killing three babies -- after they were born alive. Shockingly, after complete delivery, Gosnell would jab scissors into the back of a baby's neck and then cut the baby's spinal cord. Gosnell called the killing of these children “snipping.” Steven Massof, a former Gosnell employee, said the so-called “snipping” is really “like a beheading,” reported the Baptist Press. Gosnell likely killed thousands of babies in this manner. Not surprisingly, his abortion mill became known as the “House of Horrors.” Listen to a portion of the trailer to the 2018 movie called “Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer.” POLICEMAN 1: “Philadelphia Police Department: We have a search warrant.” POLICEMAN 2: “What is that smell?” POLICEMAN 3: “Man, you got to see this.” DETECTIVE JAMES WOOD: “I've never been in an abortion clinic before. So far, we've found over 30 of them. [aborted babies in the abortion mill]. A healthy woman goes into a clinic, comes out dead, and there's no police report?” COURT OFFICIAL: “Prosecution has offered you a plea bargain, Dr Gosnell.” GOSNELL: “Then I would have to admit I was guilty. I'm not guilty!” PROESECUTOR: “When was the last time your division inspected Dr. Gosnell's [abortion] clinic?” INSPECTOR: “We had instructions, directly from [Republican] Governor [Tom] Ridge's office, not to inspect.” NURSE LEXY McGUIRE: “Nothing that man did protects women or children. And you don't have to be a pro-life activist to see that.” DISTRICT ATTORNEY DAN MOLINARI: “Kermit Gosnell is perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history. You better win!” Watch the trailer for the movie “Gosnell.” Proverbs 6:16-19 describes the seven things that God hates, including “hands that shed innocent blood.” Maria Gallagher, executive director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, told LifeNews, “We continue to grieve the loss of the babies and women who fell victim to Gosnell's violent crime spree. And we hold out hope that the lessons learned from Gosnell's reign of terror will not be forgotten.” Democrats won special election in Florida Democrats won a special election on Tuesday in South Florida. Democrat Emily Gregory defeated Republican Jon Maples to win the state House District 87 seat. She won by only 800 votes or about two percentage points. The district is home to President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. The Associated Press reports, “Gregory's victory is the latest example of how Democrats have flipped seats in a series of special elections that could be a sign of momentum in a midterm election year that will provide a political verdict on Trump's second term.” Christians are weak on abortion, marriage and family And finally, Dr. George Barna released his latest report on the worldview of Americans. Notably, the majority of U.S. adults—ranging from 68% to 82%—lack Biblical alignment in essential areas of worldview beliefs and behaviors. This is even more common among younger generations. The weakest worldview category for Americans, even committed Christians, is social issues such as marriage, family, and the sanctity of life. Dr. Barna noted, “Very few adults presently own a biblical worldview. But the survey also shows that with some commitment and very focused mentoring, millions of Americans could certainly develop a Biblical worldview.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, March 26th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Kermit Gosnell, the abortionist and serial killer who butchered and killed women and babies for 30 years, has died in prison. We broke the story in our Substack (linked below) on Monday, and we have devoted all of this week's podcast to covering his life and crimes and honoring his victims. It's an important story. We knew Gosnell well. We covered his trial in Philadelphia, interviewed him in prison, and had dozens of jailhouse phone calls while researching the book, podcast, and movie we produced about his life and crimes.Gosnell was convicted in 2013 of murdering three infants born alive during illegal late-term abortions, whom he then killed by cutting their spinal cords with scissors. Gosnell was also found guilty of killing 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar, a refugee from Bhutan who died from a lethal overdose of anesthesia administered by unlicensed staff in his abortion clinic. When he died, Ann released a statement about meeting and talking with the monster that was Kermit Gosnell:“It was tough but it was a very, very important piece of journalism. Meeting Gosnell was one of the few times in my journalism career that I felt I was face to face with evil.“Gosnell is gone, but we should take time to think of the thousands of innocent babies who were his victims. They lived for a short period of time but must not be forgotten. They achieved some measure of justice with Gosnell's prosecution and incarceration.“I think in particular of Baby Boy A, who was so big that even Gosnell's workers were shocked by the barbarity of his killing and took a photo of him after he was murdered. He shook their hardened hearts. Baby Boy A lived for about an hour before he was killed. The picture of him curled up in a Tupperware container helped seal Gosnell's fate and ensured he'd never kill again. That heartbreaking picture has also meant that I'm not the only one who will never forget Baby Boy A.“I'm also thinking of the two women who needlessly died in Gosnell's diabolical clinic. Karnamaya Mongar, who came to this country as a refugee after living a life of danger in Bhutan. She came to America for refuge but four months later was dead at the hands of Gosnell.“And Semika Shaw, the young Black mother who tragically died after a botched abortion at the hands of Kermit Gosnell.“Their deaths were also caused because of bureaucratic incompetence and the liberal political imperative to shield abortion and abortionists from criticism.“These women were sacrificed for Progressive politics. Karnamaya Mongar and Semika Shaw were minorities in a city that claimed to care. It turns out Black Lives didn't Matter after all.”This week, we look at the life and crimes of Kermit Gosnell with the man who put him behind bars. It's an amazing episode that you won't want to miss.. You can hear Gosnell's voice defending the indefensible, along with interviews with his surviving victims and those who put him behind bars, in our top-ranking podcast on the case: Serial Killer: A True Crime Podcast (linked below). We also co-wrote and produced the movie about the case starring Dean Cain and directed by Nick Searcy.Links:To read our Substack article breaking the news of Gosnell's death, click here: https://phelimmcaleer.substack.com/p/exclusive-kermit-gosnell-is-deadTo read the grand jury's testimony from Gosnell's trial, click here: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/URLs_Cited/OT2015/15-274/15-274-1.pdfTo donate, please click here: https://unreportedstorysociety.com/To subscribe to our Stories.io Substack, please click here: https://phelimmcaleer.substack.com/To buy our book and learn more about the crimes of Kermit Gosnell, click here: https://www.amazon.com/Gosnell-Untold-Americas-Prolific-Serial/dp/1621578585/ref=monarch_sidesheet_titleTo Donate:https://secure.anedot.com/unreported-story-society/cf0cdeea5333b147798ffTo read our latest Substack article:https://tinyurl.com/5669t96h
Marc Cox opens the show with mounting airport disruptions as TSA callouts force emergency ICE deployments, tying the chaos to the ongoing DHS funding standoff and warning of wider national fallout. He then zeroes in on a heated local fight in St. Charles County, blasting PAC-backed attacks and doxxing targeting school board candidates like Lauren Greenwood while exposing what he calls political manipulation in education. The hour expands into a high-stakes tax battle over property tax freezes versus new EMS sales taxes, with Marc arguing unions are overreaching before losses even materialize. “Kim on a Whim” adds a cultural layer, as Kim St. Onge breaks down viral debates featuring Jillian Michaels dismantling body positivity claims and calling out “Big Food” influence, before the hour closes with a stark reaction to the death of Kermit Gosnell and a broader critique of abortion policy and shifting election standards following comments from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. The Numbers Tell a Startling Story Frederick County Sheriff's Office Captain Warren Gosnell sits down with Valley Today host Janet Michael to discuss a reality check for local drivers: the county's newly activated school zone speed cameras caught nearly 3,000 violators in just four days. Even more concerning, some drivers were caught speeding through the same school zone every single day, with speeds reaching up to 32 mph over the posted limit. "We weren't expecting that high," Gosnell admits, though he anticipated significant numbers given that one camera monitors Route 7, a heavily traveled corridor. The system tracks three school zones across the county, with each violation processed through multiple layers of human review before any warning or citation is issued. How the System Actually Works Unlike what critics might assume, this isn't an AI-driven "Big Brother" operation. Instead, every single violation passes through human hands multiple times before reaching a driver's mailbox. First, employees in Chattanooga, Tennessee review each potential violation individually. They verify the date, time, location, flashing lights, license plate number, and vehicle match. Then, the data travels back to Frederick County, where one of three sworn officers—including Gosnell himself—reviews everything again. They check whether school was in session, confirm the lights were actually flashing, and ensure the license plate matches the vehicle in the photograph. "This is all by human hand," Gosnell emphasizes. "We don't scan tags. We have a violator, now we run the tag." The system includes video clips showing four seconds before and after each violation, proving the school zone lights were actively flashing when drivers exceeded the speed limit by more than 9 mph—the threshold Frederick County established to allow for reasonable margin of error. The Warning Period and What Comes Next Currently, drivers receive only warnings through March 12th. After that date, however, violators face $100 civil penalties per offense. The flat fee applies regardless of how much drivers exceed the limit, though Gosnell warns that habitual speeders might find themselves facing something more serious than an automated ticket. "What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna set a live deputy up," he explains, "'cause I know what time you come through, I know what you're driving." A live traffic stop opens the door to additional charges beyond speeding—reckless driving, expired inspections, or even DUI arrests. Repeat Offenders and Changing Behavior Perhaps most troubling are the repeat offenders caught before they received their first warnings. One driver accumulated violations on four consecutive days, traveling 63, 69, 71, and 77 mph in a 45 mph school zone. Because warnings hadn't yet arrived in mailboxes, the driver had no idea they were being caught. "He hadn't gotten his first warning yet," Gosnell notes. Officials hope that once these initial warnings land, at least a third of violators will modify their behavior immediately. Interestingly, a significant number of drivers were caught at exactly the threshold—45 mph in a 35 mph zone. Some critics questioned why the county would enforce at such a low margin, but Gosnell counters that the threshold discussion misses the point entirely. "You're forgetting that 45 in a 35 is still 10 miles an hour over the limit," he states firmly. "It's still illegal." Proactive Rather Than Reactive When critics demand to know how many children have been injured or killed at these specific locations, Gosnell pushes back against reactive thinking. He points out that the stretch in front of Stonewall Elementary has already seen two fatal crashes—not during school hours, but crashes nonetheless involving school staff. "We're not gonna be reactive when it comes to this," he insists. "We wanna be proactive." Frederick County has already recorded its second traffic fatality of 2026 despite only being in February. Last year's total was nine fatalities for the entire year, with months passing between incidents. The current trajectory concerns officials who see technology as a force multiplier when deputies can't be everywhere simultaneously. "Even then our deputies can't be there the whole time," Gosnell explains. "The moment I start dealing with someone who came through at 48 in the 35, here comes 62 in the 35, and I don't know it because I'm dealing with 48." Broader Safety Concerns as Weather Warms As temperatures climb and motorcycle season begins, Gosnell shifts the conversation to road safety beyond school zones. He acknowledges the unique vulnerabilities motorcyclists face while also calling out dangerous riding behaviors like weaving through traffic or "lane splitting," which remains illegal in Virginia. "I'm a realistic traffic cop," Gosnell says, explaining that he understands why riders want to create distance from larger vehicles at traffic lights. Accelerating quickly to establish space makes sense, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. Riders need to reach the speed limit without excessive displays of power, then maintain safe speeds while other vehicles catch up. Simultaneously, he reminds passenger vehicle drivers of their responsibilities. "You have an obligation to every other driver to be as safe as you can be," he states. Whether drivers accept it or not, everyone shares the road and bears responsibility for protecting one another. The Privilege of Driving Throughout the conversation, Gosnell returns repeatedly to a fundamental principle that some drivers seem to forget: driving is not a constitutional right. It's a state-granted privilege that comes with legal obligations. "I know my rights—driving isn't one of them, people," he declares. "You get a license granted to you from whatever DMV of the jurisdiction in which you live." He dismisses sovereign citizen arguments about traveling without licenses or registration, noting that such claims consistently fail in court and lead to arrests. Scams and Final Warnings Before wrapping up, Gosnell addresses a surge in scams where criminals impersonate law enforcement officers to extort money from residents. Someone even created fake recordings using Gosnell's own name and rank, though the voice bore no resemblance to the real captain. His advice remains simple: hang up immediately if anyone claiming to be law enforcement asks for money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency related to tickets, warrants, or jury duty. "Ten times outta 10, they're gonna tell you it wasn't a member of their agency," he assures listeners who call back through official channels to verify. The Bottom Line As Frederick County's 30-day warning period winds down, Gosnell makes his position clear. Drivers who accumulate multiple warnings and still refuse to slow down will find little sympathy when the $100 citations begin arriving. The technology exists not to generate revenue but to change driving behavior around schools where children concentrate in vehicles, buses, and crosswalks. "All you need to do is slow down to at least nine or less over the limit," Gosnell emphasizes. "We prefer you to be at the limit, but all you gotta do is slow down a little bit once you hit the 10." For those who continue ignoring the warnings, the message is simple: the cameras will keep watching, humans will keep reviewing, and consequences will follow. The goal remains unchanged—preventing the next tragedy before it happens rather than responding to one that already has.

Happy New Year! As 2025 comes to a close, the team looks back on the stories from the True Sunlight Podcast that defined the year, and the systems that made them possible. In this special year-end episode, Mandy provides an update on Cory Fleming's ‘Early Release' and LUNASHARK's digital librarian Kate Thomas takes listeners on a journey through twelve audio clips, one from each month, highlighting the investigations, interviews, and turning points that shaped LUNASHARK's work in 2025. From Pastor JP Miller's lawsuit warfare and eventual federal indictment, to the corruption exposed in Scott Spivey's killing, to Karl Stoller's silencing in the Bowen Turner case—this episode traces the patterns of corruption, the protection of powerful men, and the systemic failures that continue to plague America's justice systems. But we also celebrate the wins: Lee Gilley's indictment in Texas, the charging of former Deputy Billy Squires, the federal cyberstalking charges brought against JP Miller, and federal Child Sexual Abuse Material charges for former SC state rep RJ May and former long-time magistrate judge James Gosnell. Gosnell has pleaded not guilty. This isn't just a recap—it's a reminder of why sunlight matters, why this work must continue, and why your support makes accountability possible. As we look toward 2026, one truth remains clear: the work is far from over, but together, we're making a difference…. And That Is A Big Deal!

When Public Safety Thursday on The Valley Today kicks off with a moment of accidental dead air, Captain Warren Gosnell of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office doesn't miss a beat. Instead, he turns Janet Michael's radio-studio nightmare into a teaching moment—because in today's tech-driven world, even the smallest glitch can open the door to trouble. Technology: A Gift and a Growing Threat As the holidays approach, scammers ramp up activity, exploiting both technology and human vulnerability. Captain Gosnell notes that modern fraud schemes are made easier—and more convincing—because technology has advanced faster than many people can track. Artificial intelligence, digital phone number spoofing, data breaches, and realistic voice cloning have changed the landscape of crime. He warns that criminals now need only minimal information—a name, a phone number, maybe a partial address—to sound legitimate and gain trust. Even worse, scammers increasingly target older adults, who may not recognize how sophisticated fraud technology has become. Red Flags: What Law Enforcement Will Never Do With a mix of humor and seriousness, Gosnell emphasizes that no police officer will ever: Call you to request a donation while on duty Use their rank or title to pressure you into giving money Ask for payment to "avoid being arrested" Request gift cards as bail or for fines "Today's special is half price: $250 keeps you out of the hoosegow," he jokes — pointing out just how ridiculous legitimate law enforcement would sound if these fake offers were true. How Scammers Capture Your Identity — One Quiz at a Time Captain Gosnell shines a spotlight on one of the most sneaky scam tactics: social media quizzes. Those seemingly innocent prompts— "Who was your 3rd-grade teacher?" "What street did you grow up on?" "What was your first car?" —are actually harvesting answers frequently used as bank and account security questions. Janet adds another big concern: parents posting first-day-of-school photos that include their children's full names, ages, teacher names, birth details, or school locations — a treasure trove for identity thieves. When Familiar Voices Aren't Real One of the most chilling warnings of the episode centers on AI-generated voice scams. Because Gosnell's voice is publicly available in videos and broadcasts, he worries scammers could easily mimic him: "It could be me, asking you to send money to avoid a warrant," he says — and people might believe it, simply because the voice sounds familiar. He encourages critical thinking: Why would the Sheriff's Office call you about a warrant instead of coming to your door? Why would payment be demanded over the phone? If it feels wrong — it is. How to Shut Down a Scam If someone calls claiming to be your bank, a government agency, or a utility: Hang up. Go to the organization's official website — NOT a link they sent you. Use verified contact information to confirm whether the call was real. "And whatever you do," Gosnell insists, "never click the link." Reporting scam attempts to local authorities is still helpful — even if the culprit is likely states or oceans away. Law enforcement can alert the public to new schemes and share prevention tips. Gift Cards Are NOT Currency One of the easiest rules of holiday safety: If someone demands gift cards as payment — it's a scam. Period. Scammers don't even need the physical card. Once you read the numbers aloud, they drain the funds within seconds. No recovery. No traceability. No refund. The Double-Edged Sword of Modern Tech Despite the concerns, Gosnell isn't anti-technology — far from it. He reminisces about growing up with Pong, learning to code on a Commodore 64, and now enjoying VR headsets. Technology has transformed law enforcement, too:

On a crisp October morning, the studio of “The Valley Today” buzzed with the familiar energy of Public Safety Thursday. Host Janet Michael welcomed Captain Warren Gosnell of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, setting the stage for a conversation that would travel from the cobblestone streets of Switzerland to the heart of community policing in Virginia. The episode opened with lighthearted banter about Captain Gosnell's recent European travels, where he sampled everything from Swiss chocolate to Italian pizza—and even tested the local McDonald's menu. The cultural differences in food, portion sizes, and even the semantics of “medium” versus “large” fries provided a humorous entry point before the conversation shifted to more serious matters. As the discussion turned to law enforcement, Captain Gosnell offered listeners a candid look at the evolving role of deputies in Frederick County. “We wear a lot of hats,” he explained, emphasizing that modern policing extends far beyond traffic stops and criminal investigations. Today's deputies are community caretakers, educators, and advocates, often stepping into roles that require empathy, creativity, and a deep understanding of the people they serve. One of the central themes of the episode was the importance of positive first impressions—especially for children. Gosnell recounted the Lunch Buddies program, where deputies join students in school cafeterias, handing out high-fives and badge stickers, and sometimes even buying ice cream for those who can't afford it. “We want a child's first encounter with law enforcement to be positive,” he said, “so if they ever need help, they know we're someone they can trust.” The conversation also highlighted the department's commitment to outreach programs like Kids Camp, the Virginia Triad (which educates seniors about scams and safety), and partnerships with organizations such as the Lions Club and the Laurel Center. These initiatives, Gosnell noted, are designed to support vulnerable populations—from children to the elderly to survivors of domestic violence—by providing resources, education, and a visible, approachable law enforcement presence. Janet and Captain Gosnell didn't shy away from the challenges facing law enforcement today, including staffing shortages and the delicate balance between community needs and available resources. Yet, the tone remained optimistic, focusing on the creative ways deputies are finding to connect with residents—whether it's “Coffee with a Cop,” “Color with a Cop,” or patrolling neighborhoods on bikes during Halloween to keep trick-or-treaters safe. As the episode drew to a close, Janet expressed her appreciation for the department's dedication to both “protect and serve,” noting that sometimes “serve looks a little different.” Captain Gosnell agreed, underscoring the importance of building trust not just with children, but with parents and the broader community. In a world where headlines often focus on the negative, this conversation was a refreshing reminder that law enforcement can—and should—be a force for good, working hand-in-hand with the community to create a safer, more connected place for everyone.

Hello and welcome to the Valley Today podcast listeners! I have some good news and bad news for you about today's conversation for Public Safety Thursday with Captain Warren Gosnell from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. As is the custom in my house, we always start with the bad news first so the good news can make us feel better. So … the bad news: There was a technical glitch in recording the show today. We were live in the studio which means I have a bit less control over the audio and recording mechanisms since I'm not using my own equipment. It appears the first segment of today's conversation where we talked about Captain Gosnell's promotion and his new, expanded duties did not record. But the good news is that the second half of our conversation DID record so it wasn't a total loss from a podcast perspective. My apologies for the glitch but enjoy the last 15 minutes of my chat today with Goz! Janet and Goz discuss the dangers, misconceptions, and legal implications of brake checking, emphasizing it is never a good idea. They then touch on topics such as the role of passengers in traffic incidents and broader public safety concerns, including handling emergencies and the use of defibrillators. Goz shares personal experiences with lifesaving CPR and highlights the Good Samaritan laws. They also address how the show's content will evolve to include more public safety topics. The episode concludes with Goz discussing his recent promotion and offering a few light-hearted moments with Janet about their personal lives and interactions with listeners.

In this episode of the Valley Today, hosted by Janet Michael, Traffic Safety Thursday features a detailed conversation with Lieutenant Warren Gosnell from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. The discussion begins with a lighthearted correction on broadcasting terms, clarifying that while they were live in the studio, the broadcast is not being aired live. The podcast covers several key issues related to traffic safety, focusing heavily on the importance of responsible driving behaviors and recent traffic incidents in the region. The dialogue starts with Lieutenant Gosnell addressing misconceptions about laws requiring the use of headlights when windshield wipers are in use, emphasizing that safety—rather than avoiding getting wet—is the priority for law enforcement. Lieutenant Gosnell also discusses the controversy surrounding the use of emergency flashers during heavy rain and argues for their utility in increasing visibility. This segment highlights the balance between legal requirements and practical safety considerations, aiming to inform listeners about the nuances of these regulations. The discussion then shifts to a pressing topic: aggressive driving and its dangerous consequences. Gosnell shares alarming statistics from Frederick County, including a recent spike in traffic fatalities. The conversation underlines the importance of attentive and defensive driving, criticizing behaviors such as tailgating, brake-checking, and distracted driving. Gosnell explains that while enforcement of these laws is often met with complaints, the primary goal is public safety. Gosnell emphasizes that aggressive driving can lead to severe accidents and that recent trends show an unsettling rise in traffic-related fatalities. He mentions that the Sheriff's office will be ramping up efforts to curb these behaviors, with a zero-tolerance approach for egregious violations. The episode closes with a focus on school zone safety and the importance of adhering to speed limits and stopping for school buses. Gosnell shares insights on the challenges faced by law enforcement in these areas and stresses the community's role in ensuring the safety of school children.
