Toward the end of the Lord's Prayer, we implore God to protect us from temptation and from the evil one. Fr. Mike clarifies what we mean when we ask God not to “lead us into temptation” and emphasizes the importance of discerning between trials and temptations. Lastly, we review the conclusion of the Lord's Prayer, known as the final doxology. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2846-2856. The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. NOTES: And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:5-13 (NIV) Two warnings: -1. Don't pray for attention from man. -2. Don't pray for attention from God. “Prayer is about presence before it is about anything else. Prayer doesn't begin with outcomes. Prayer is the free choice to be with the Father, to prefer his company.” -Tyler Staton How do we start? “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10. BOTTOM LINE: Prayer is an invitation to enjoy God's presence more than it is to requests God's presents. CHALLENGE: Find time to be still.

Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The Master's recipe for Effective Praying is the theme for the next few Sunday's and is a study of the petitions found in the Lord's prayer. Today we are discussing, Lead Us Not Into Temptation. The battle with temptation is a continuing battle in all of life and is what prompted our petition for today “Lead us not into temptation.” Doubtlessly, the Teacher intended for each of these petitions to be repeated daily. Even one day of relaxation during the battle with temptation can be spiritually fatal. While Jesus did not experience the need voiced in the second of the petitions, “forgive us,” He did experience this one. That is, since He never said come to any temptation, He never had to request forgiveness. You may question whether Jesus really knew the power of temptation. The truth is that only the person who ever knows the full power of temptation is the person who resists it. Jesus knew more about the power of temptation than any of us. This petition lends it self to deeper meditation. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at The Refinery. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. Welcome to the last message in our series “Teach Us To Pray”. In this series, we looked deeper into the Lord's prayer and how Jesus modeled prayer. This week Matt LaFree gave us a great message about the last part part of the prayer, “Lead Us Not Into Temptation” found in Matthew 6:9-13. We hope that you were impacted by God and that you were able to grow closer to Him through this series! Watch here: https://youtu.be/iD67nqm4BTw
We are finally covering one of the most beloved and well-known pieces of Christian children's entertainment — BIBLEMAN — and we have a special guest to help us. Harleigh Ellsworth is not only the star of the 2001 BIBLEMAN episode “LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION”, but she is also the daughter of Willie Aames (who plays the titular BIBLEMAN in addition to writing, directing, and editing the original series) and Maylo McCaslin (who voices BIBLEMAN's trusty computer U.N.I.C.E.) Harleigh tells us how the BIBLEMAN franchise was almost fully a family production, since her father Willie Aames was so hands on in all aspects of the show, including spending nearly 9 months per year touring as a part of the elaborate Bibleman live show that drew crowds of kids all over the United States. The episode we focus on today is truly a family affair, since mom, dad, and daughter all appear in the cast. In LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION (2001), Harleigh plays Riley, a newly converted Christian 12-year-old who is tempted to rejoin her old friend group, who are bad influences on her and would not be beneficial to her on her spiritual path. Parallel to this Christian moral quandary is a storyline about an evil, hypnotic website called www.HackEmUp.com that recurring BIBLEMAN villain Luxor Spawndroth uses to tempt insecure Christians and lead them back to their sinful past lives. Can BIBLEMAN and his hacker protege Cypher stop Riley from throwing her faith away? It was a pleasure to get such an intimate, inside look at the media we cover from someone who was there to see it all happen, so we can't thank Harleigh enough for spending the time to share her family's unique story with us. Also, shoutouts to our friend Dana for assisting us with the research for this. Concluding our series on the Our Father, we look at the last two petitions in this prayer. Every human person faces trials and temptations. Scripture refers to a battle between flesh and spirit. What does this mean? What does this petition have to do with it? What value is there in temptation? What does these two petitions teach us about the battle between good and evil. (Note: We're taking a break from the "Belonging to Him" series for the holiday season and will pick back up with Part 2 on January 17th. This week is one of the sermons John delivered many years ago at The Cove Church in Mooresville North Carolina). A detailed examination of God's “rules” for communicating with him through prayer. Most of us focus just on ourselves and our needs in prayer. But, the Lord's Prayer is truly about God, and it is only by focusing on God's greatness, his closeness, his kingdom, his will, his power to provide, to forgive, and to save, that we can truly find all our prayer's answered.

God is always with you and He intends for that to be a great comfort. It also serves as a great reminder when I think no one else knows... Just like God's presence, time alone is double-sided. It can be really healthy and useful, but dangerous. Alone is when you think no one else sees, no one else hears, and no one else knows. God does. This isn't a threat. It's just a reminder that I'm never getting away with anything. Perhaps I'll remember that when I'm alone tempted. Perhaps you'll remember that before you do something you'd never choose if someone was there with you or if our thoughts were on display like a billboard. I hope it helps with your focus and realization. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/QNoERc2szGY Have a Bible question? When we pray “lead us not into temptation”, it may seem like God has the capacity to tempt us. But that’s not the case. God does not tempt us, but he can and sometimes must put us through tests. Here are a four helpful ways to look at this part of the Our Father: Tests reveal things to us. When God tests us, it reveals how much faith, hope, and love we have in God and for God. Tests also strengthen us. As St. Paul says, “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope” (Romans 5:3-4). When we say, “lead us not into temptation”, what we’re really asking is “God, please don’t test me beyond my ability.” Trials will and must come, but when they do, we should ask God for no more than what we can endure. While God may not tempt us, the evil one does. God tests us by allowing the evil one to do what he does—so we can benefit from the strength and self-revelation that comes from the test. Hopefully this helps you say this part of the Our Father with more understanding and stronger intent.
