On today’s show I’m discussing a topic I feel I know very little about...William Shakespeare, but thankfully I’ll have a little help from an expert on the subject and we’ll have her answer some of your questions at the end as well. William Shakespeare is arguably the most well-known playwright of all time - to learn more about him today I have special guest, Cassidy Cash from That Shakespeare Life podcast on to educate me, and maybe you too, on the life of William Shakespeare. But, before we get started, here’s a little bit about Cassidy: Cassidy Cash is an award winning filmmaker, artist, and host of the podcast That Shakespeare Life. Cassidy believes that in order to take Shakespeare’s work from page to performance, understanding the history of the man who wrote them is essential. Her work focuses on exploring the real life and history of William Shakespeare and using art to help her fellow Shakespearean's learn something new about the bard. -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson & Cassidy Cash Produced by: Rebecca Larson Imaging by: Troy Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

So, May 19th is the 483rd anniversary of the execution of Anne Boleyn - I hate to call it an anniversary because that would indicate a celebration, and it was no real celebration for Anne. Except, without her execution I don't believe she would be as popular as she is today. Anne’s sister Mary has been mostly lost to history but part of her still carries on today - we’ll cover that more in a little bit. On today’s show we have special guest, Christine Morgan - Christine is a historian and web series creator from Charlotte, NC and hold an MA in European History and has been invited to present her research internationally at history conference in the US and in the UK. Her research covers the history of royal families, royal mistresses, religion, theatre, and propaganda. Christine’s web series called “Untitled History Project” which she writes, researches and hosts, has garnered support in her community and has been used as teaching material in high schools and universities in the US. Oct 13, 2018 at 3:52pm   Hey! Welcome to the show! This will be the first show where I debut my new equipment AND new imaging from the amazingly talented, Troy Larson.  Thomas, the diplomat and the Siege of Pest is a new concept for me. I don't often speak of anything diplomatic or military, because it used to bore me. I was more interested in the relationships and the drama. Little did I know that the research for this podcast would change my mind all together. That by understanding an important piece of Thomas Seymour's history I understand him all the more. The battles, sieges and wars were a large part of Tudor lives and to neglect them is to do an injustice. So, here I go...stepping outside the box and producing a new sounding podcast about a subject I knew little of before choosing it as a topic. If, as recommended in the podcast, you'd like to follow along on Google Maps (or wherever you prefer), here are a list of cities mentioned: Vienna  Nuremberg  Esztergom  Buda (Budapest, Hungary)  Pest (Budapest, Hungary) Enjoy this podcast and hope to see you next time!  -Rebecca  -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Imaging by: Troy Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Sari Graham and I have become friends through social media and we share an interest in all things Tudor. I am honored to have her as a guest on the show today so she can teach me, and maybe you as well, a bit about the Wars of the Roses.    -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

By today’s standards they would not be considered as brave (depending on what part of the world you live in of course), but in 16th century England the things these women did may have been considered reckless and disobedient by their male counterparts. -----  Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Feb 16, 2018 at 7:22pm   The Life of Lady Jane Grey (Part One)   There were many reasons why I wanted to do a series on Lady Jane Grey.  1. February is the month she was executed 2. I have read 'Crown of Blood' by Nicola Tallis 3. I just finished 'Three Sisters Who Would Be Queen' by Leanda De Lisle 4. BBC recently had a series on her as well, so Jane is hot-topic this month. The life of Lady Jane Grey has been told many times. Most of the stories mention an abusive home where Jane felt trapped. But they do not often make you feel like you are getting a glimpse at the real Jane.  My series on Jane will hopefully open your eyes to interesting bits you did not know. -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sources/References:  De Lisle, Leanda. Apr 2, 2018 at 12:37pm   Episode: Edward VI's Regency Council   After producing my series on Lady Jane Grey I thought I should step back a bit and look at the beginning of Edward VI's reign. As many of you already know I have an obsession with Thomas Seymour - it is at the time of Edward accession to the throne that things began to sour for Thomas Seymour...where he may have foresaw great favor and wealth, realty brought him much less. Thomas Seymour was not even trusted by King Henry VIII to be on the regency council of his own nephew. This episode will focus on the events that occurred prior to King Henry VIII's death and will end with each of the sixteen men on the council and a bit about them. I would also like to take a minute to apologize for the slaughtering of English place names, surnames and events -- I didn't realize until after the fact that I may have done a bit more research on how to pronounce a few things - my apologies, in advance. -----  Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  ------------------------------------------------------------ Sources/References: Acts of the Privy Council of England, Volume 2 Craik, George Lillie & Charles MacFarlane. Duncan MacDiarmid and Ashley Hickey are both sculptors and members of Society of Sculptors (SOS). They have both been members of the board, and Ashley Hickey is currently the President. Established in 1935 as a part of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, SOS is one of the oldest groups that promotes the visibility of sculptors both locally and nationally. Both Duncan and Ashley's works are completely different, showing the diversity within the field. They talk about their work and their process, as well as the growth and changes in the Pittsburgh art scene, the economy and art, the flexibility of sculpture, and the price of art over time. If you would like to be a part of SOS's 80th Anniversary Show in November, make sure to submit your work by July 14 and follow this link to find out more. The show will take place November 13–January 17 at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Moreover, if you are interested in becoming a member, be sure to check out the site to find out more information. Ashley will also be having a show from July 10–August 9 at the 709 Gallery in conjunction with the downtown gallery crawl. Be sure to check out both Duncan's and Ashley's works in the links below! – Jennifer Huang Society of Sculptures on the Internet www.societyofsculptors.org Society of Sculptors on Facebook Follow @sospittsburgh on Instagram ashleyhickey.com Duncan MacDiarmid's website earthviewstudios.com pittsburgharts.org Music Credit "Suonatore di Liuto" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
