In this kickoff to our new series, Pastor Alvin explores the character of the Holy Spirit—not just His power, but His posture. Scripture tells us the Holy Spirit is our Helper, Guide, and Comforter, but what does that really mean in our daily lives? This message challenges us to reconsider what it means to walk in true spiritual power: not just through signs and wonders, but through humility, submission, and love. This week in Part 4 of the “Submitted Leaders” series, Pastor Alvin teaches on the power of submission and the supernatural strength God gives His people. Using 1 Peter 2 and Luke 2, he shows how even Jesus grew by submitting to others—and how we can too. This message will challenge you to lead differently, stay humble, and allow God to use your meekness for eternal impact. In Part 3 of our Submitted Leaders series, Pastor Alvin unpacks why spiritual authority always begins with natural submission. Drawing from the lives of Abraham, David, and even Jesus, we're reminded that God's process for leadership involves humility, obedience, and development—starting with how we respond to earthly authority. This week, Pastor Alvin continues our Submitted Leaders series with a powerful message about yielding our influence to the authority of Christ. Drawing from the stories of King Saul, David, and the Roman Centurion, this message challenges us to reframe leadership through the lens of submission. “You can't have faith without understanding authority”—a truth that unlocks real freedom, influence, and impact in the Kingdom. Leadership is influence—and as believers, we're called to lead others toward Jesus. In this week's message, Pastor Alvin challenges us to examine the type of influence we carry and invites us to submit fully to God, resist the enemy, and walk in the freedom of being a submitted leader. This Easter, Pastor Alvin brought a powerful word on one of the most challenging—but transformative—topics in the Christian faith: forgiveness. What if God's forgiveness wasn't easy for Him either? What if He had to push past deep hurt—just like we do—to forgive us? In this message, we reflect on how hurt and forgiveness are often inseparable, and how our ability to forgive others reveals whether we've truly received God's forgiveness ourselves. This week at Nashville Life, Pastor Alvin builds on last week's message about repentance—challenging us to move from just feeling sorry to truly following through. Repentance starts in the soul, but it's not complete until it reaches our actions. Through practical steps and biblical examples like Zacchaeus, we learn how to protect our momentum, activate lasting change, and walk in the fullness of God's grace. Scripture References: Luke 19 (Zacchaeus) Romans 8:11 Luke 13:5 James 4:6 ABOUT US At Nashville Life Church, our vision is dedicated to following Jesus & building leaders. Repentance isn't remorse, regret, or even saying sorry — it's a change of your will. In this message, Pastor Alvin teaches that for anything truly good to happen in your life, repentance is not just important — it's necessary. Learn how repentance is the first step in accepting the gospel, why your will (not your spirit) is where real change begins, and how to protect your spiritual momentum through human accountability. "You can be sorry and not done — repentance happens when you decide you're done with your own way." Scripture references: Mark 1:15 Acts 3:19 Luke 19 (Zacchaeus) Luke 15 (The Prodigal Son) ABOUT US At Nashville Life Church, our vision is dedicated to following Jesus & building leaders. This passionate and powerful message reminds us of the transformational power of the Gospel—how Jesus didn't just rise for Himself but brought us with Him. Through vivid storytelling and Scripture, Pastor Alvin unpacks how Christ got beneath our brokenness, lifted us out of death, and raised us to life. No matter how far you've fallen or how dead you may feel, you're already seated in heavenly places. Now it's time to believe it. This week at Nashville Life, Pastor Alvin shared a powerful message celebrating our 13th Anniversary about the seed of God's Word and the soil of our hearts. Drawing parallels between the human body and the body of Christ, we're reminded that while God's Word is perfect and full of purpose, it requires a receptive heart to bear fruit. If you've ever wondered why God's promises feel delayed or distant, this message will challenge and encourage you. Be inspired to tend to the soil of your heart, embrace the identity God has given you, and step boldly into the destiny He's planted inside of you. This week at Nashville Life, Pastor Alvin delivers a powerful message on the value of our calling and the transformation that follows. Looking at the life of Abraham, we see that God calls us just as we are—but He doesn't leave us there. Instead, He leads us through a process of change, shaping us into the image of Jesus, and multiplying His work in us to impact others. I f you've ever struggled with doubt, distractions, or resistance to change, this message is for you. Be encouraged to say "yes" to God's call, embrace His transformation, and step into the greater purpose He has for your life! On the podcast this week, Mark Oakley reflects on “Love (III)” by George Herbert. This episode was first posted last year as part of the Church Times Poetry Podcast for Lent series. “Over my years of reading Herbert, I have come to see him as the poet who most expresses our relationship with God as a friendship,” Mark says. “Friendship requires courage enough to stop skating so quickly over our own thin ice in case we disappear through the cracks. Instead, we face the fact that we need support and connection and that, also, we have much to give as well.” The material in this podcast is taken from Mark Oakley's book The Splash of Words (Canterbury Press), winner of the 2019 Michael Ramsey Prize for Theological Writing. In the third episode of the Church Times Poetry Podcast for Lent, Mark Oakley reflects on “Love (III)” by George Herbert. “Over my years of reading Herbert, I have come to see him as the poet who most expresses our relationship with God as a friendship,” Mark says. “I'm not talking about friendship in terms of the 600 ‘Friends' we have on Facebook, but rather the one or two people who have changed our life for good and maybe at some cost to us both. “Thinking about these friends can dare us to reflect, as I think did Herbert, that our life with God is a friendship that asks of us a mutual freedom. Friendship deepens as honesty deepens. We cannot put the other on a pedestal. We must try and prize off the mask that has begun to eat into our face. We need to be brave in hearing what we don't like or saying what we have never dared. World Golf Hall of Fame member Davis Love III shares his boyhood memories of learning the game under the watchful and loving eye of his father, famed teacher, Davis Love, Jr., his college days at the university of North Carolina and his amateur successes including his selection to the 1985 Walker Cup team that prevailed at Pine Valley GC. Davis recalls his first Tour win at Harbour Town in 1987 (4 more wins there to follow), the loss of his father in a tragic plane crash, his first Tournament Players Championship win in 1992 and teaming with Fred Couples to capture a record four consecutive World Cup titles. Davis Love III recounts the early years, "FORE the Good of the Game."
