In today's podcast journey I welcome guests Steven Snyder, aka Recluse, the host of “The Farm” podcast, along with his associate Jason with a fun filled review of a recent tour of the Occult and/or Esoteric History of Cincinnati that I recently had the opportunity to provide a tour of many of the occult and/or esoteric sites of the east side of Cincinnati. Of course here in the city that was established by the secret society that formed America, the Society of the Cincinnati, for which is the namesake of the city of Cincinnati…we made numerous stops on our tour to ancient Mound sites – as the Society of the Cincinnati had & potentially stills has a deep veneration for these Mounds. We also made a stop at the famed Loveland Castle, and fell down a deep rabbit hole of the city of Cincinnati's connections to the infamous Civil War era Confederate secret society, the Knights of the Golden Circle. Additionally, on our stop at the Loveland Castle – perhaps one of my favorite elements of this tale - other such patrons of the castle that day assumed that Recluse, aka Steven Snyder, was a tour guide of the castle…and Recluse even posed for photos with the other patrons of the self-guided castle tour. Nearby to the Loveland Castle in the Mound heavy region of the Little Miami River is the site that we visited on the tour that has long been known for the numerous sightings of a local frog cryptid known as the Loveland Frog. But our Cincinnati cryptid tour did not end there, as we visited on of Cincinnati's 7-hills…to another reported cryptid sightings location, this time with a badger like cryptid sighting often described at this park location atop of one of Cincinnati's Rome-style 7-hills. This particular hill where a badger cryptid is allegedly known to loiter…brings us back to the Society of the Cincinnati….Once again in the city that held such great importance to the secret society that created America, the Society of the Cincinnati, and its 1st President-General George Washington. As this modern day county park, where a Beaver cryptid creature is reported to loiter, and where ancient Mounds still sit on this property today….this particular land was surveyed and mapped by George Washington many years prior to him becoming the President-General of a secret society that is essentially a modern day knighthood – with membership passed down to paternal descendants of original members. And speak'n of Rome….and the last stop on the tour of the esoteric and/or occult history of Cincinnati…Eden Park. Where in Eden Park for the better part of the last century a statue once stood…a gift from the nation of Rome to the city of Cincinnati…a statue of Romulus and Remus – the two characters that star in the origin tale of Rome. Sadly, the statue was destroyed during the Mostly Peaceful riots of the summer of 2020. However, the base of the statue still exists and it clearly reads a gift from Rome….a gift from the old City of 7-hills to the new City of 7-hills, Cincinnati. Lastly, on our Eden Park adventure we discovered a monument…and I in no way, shape, or form planned this discovery – albeit I was accused of such…a monument to a fella named John L. Vance – a distant cousin of mine here in Clan Vance. Apparently, this Vance fella was a figure who played an integral role in the economic development of the rivers and waterways thru Cincinnati, which at one point in time did serve as a major metropolitan city on account of the shipment of goods and people along the Ohio river. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_Park_(Cincinnati) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chateau_Laroche https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_the_Cincinnati https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Golden_Circle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loveland_frog https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alms_Park https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=135213 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitoline_Wolf_Statue,_Cincinnati https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_Park_Stand_Pipe --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jj-vance/message

Don't forget to order your copy of Beyond Bigfoot & Nessie, available wherever you buy books! Check out the great podcast Bring Birds Back. They were kind enough to run a promo for us in the middle of their Halloween episode so I've returned the favor. Further reading: 'Loveland Frogman' Spotted Again? The Loveland Frogman Is Back!!! I'm your host, Kate Shaw. It's finally Halloween, and it's also our 300th episode! Wow! I don't think I've ever made 300 of anything before. To celebrate, this episode is going to be our most Halloween-y yet, a solid five out of five ghosts on our spookiness scale. Beware, muahahaha! As usual in our Halloween episodes, we have a little bit of housekeeping before we start. The Beyond Bigfoot & Nessie book is still available everywhere you order books. I have six or seven copies of the paperback if you want to buy a signed copy directly from me. Just drop me an email if you're interested. This past year has been extremely busy for me. Apart from the podcast, I also sold my house and moved to an apartment, went to a lot of conventions to sell books, and worked on my fiction writing. I self-published a novella this summer called Royal Red, which is about dragons, but it's not appropriate for younger readers so I won't link to it. Everything I've done this year has been positive ultimately, but it was incredibly stressful at the time. Now that things are settling down, I've had time to think about what I want to do in the future. I love making Strange Animals Podcast, but it's also taking up more and more of my time. I have a lot of hobbies and interests outside of podcasting, which I haven't had time to do very much in the last few years. I need to pull back and regain time for myself. But don't worry, we'll still have an episode every week! The episodes will just be shorter on average. Hopefully you won't even notice the change. Feel free to continue sending in your suggestions and feedback. I know I'm really backed up on suggestions and hope to get to a bunch of them in the next few months. If you worry that I never got your suggestion, you can send it again! Also, if you want a sticker, send me your mailing address and I'll mail you one. That's true all the time, not just right now. Thanks to everyone for supporting the podcast over the last 300 episodes! Let's aim for another 300. Also, stick around to the very end of the episode to hear a promo from a great podcast called Bring Birds Back. I think you'll really like the show. Now, it's time to learn about the LOVELAND FROG. Which does not sound spooky, but believe me, it is. The story doesn't start in 2016, but that's where we're going to start. In early August 2016, a young man named Sam Jacobs was playing Pokemon Go with his girlfriend in Loveland, Ohio. They were near Lake Isabella when Sam noticed a big frog in the water. It was getting dark at this point and all Sam could see was the frog's eyes reflecting light and its head and back above the water. It was so big that he took pictures and even video, but then the frog stood up out of the water and walked around on its hind legs, the size of a human. But that wasn't the first time someone had seen a giant frog-man in the area. In 1972 it was seen twice, both times by policemen. On March 3, 1972,

We're back with a wonky and wacky one, Weirdos. Join us as we explore the oddest cryptid we've come across yet, and not just because it hails from Ohio.... Hot Damn, It's the Loveland Frog! Now imagine some mixed-up version of a frog and a dwarf, but throw in a wand that creates sparkles that smell like alfalfa and almonds. Not to mention, this cryptid has its own musical and accompanying fan-base. Got it? Yeah, neither do we. We're convinced there is an LSD trip or five somewhere in this tale. Stick around at the end for our infamous bloopers, including us bashing on Ohio, forgetting how to podcast, and forgetting the English language (Ara, who says "scamp mook" when they're trying to say "swamp muck"?
