Welcome back to Your Family...Tarantula? That's right- in today's Very Unusual Episode, we're joined by Shamekia Wray, a former arachnophobe who now shares her home with 50+ pet spiders (and some bearded dragons as well). Most of us feel a definite sense of ick when confronted with an eight-legged creepy crawly, but these low-maintenance (and suprisingly colorful!) animals can actually make ideal pets, particularly for kids who want an animal companion but aren't ready for the intensity of a dog. Tune in to learn about Shamekia's journey from arachnophobe to arachnofiend and find out how much there is to appreciate about these leggy little beasts. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 29, 2026 is: cohort • KOH-hort • noun Cohort refers to a group or band of individuals, as in “a cohort of supporters.” It can also be used for a group of individuals who have a statistical factor (such as age) in common in a demographic study, as in “a cohort of people born in the 1980s.” Cohort can be used for individuals too, as for a friend, companion, or colleague, but it is almost always used in its plural form. // I wouldn't have made it through graduate school without the help of my supportive cohort. See the entry > Examples: “By the time Rosie emerged ... for her afternoon meet-and-greet, the line of guests eager to hold the famed tarantula had already wrapped around the room and into the hallway. ... Tarantulas need to be at least 10 years old to be handled, so rearing a new cohort of Rosies could take up to a decade.” — Laura Penington, The Denver Post, 18 Aug. 2025 Did you know? In ancient times, a cohort was a military unit, one of ten divisions in a Roman legion. The term passed into English in the 15th century, when it was used in translations and writings about Roman history. Once cohort became established in our language, its meaning was extended, first to refer to any body of troops, then to any group of individuals with something in common (as in “a cohort of law students” or “a cohort of people who were born in the same year”), and later to a single companion. Some writers on usage have objected to this last sense because it can be hard to tell whether the plural refers to different individuals or different groups. The “companion” sense is well established in standard use, however, and its meaning is clear enough in such sentences as “her cohorts came along with her to the game.”

Why Listen? Find out why Peter Parker's body might be failing him in the newest trailer and which secret X-Men cameo just changed the trajectory of the MCU. Whether you are curious about the "Man-Spider" theory or the political fallout of Wilson Fisk's mayoralty, this episode provides the deep-dive analysis you need to stay ahead of the curve. What You'll Learn The Man-Spider Theory: Evidence of Peter Parker's mutating body and organic web-shooters. MCU Mutants: The subtle clues pointing to Sadie Sink as the MCU's Jean Grey. The Golden Path: Why Paul Atreides' journey in Dune is darker than you think. Kingpin's New Era: What to expect from the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Is Peter Parker Mutating into Man-Spider? In this episode, Frank and Squeaks break down the high-octane Spider-Man: Brave New World trailer. We explore the haunting theory that Peter's powers are evolving—or decaying—into something more monstrous. With Peter increasingly isolated and stalking his old friends, the stakes have never been more personal. We also look at the Hulk's mysterious arm brace and what it means for the return of a more "Savage" version of the character. Did the X-Men Just Secretly Arrive in the MCU? The nerd world is buzzing about a specific jacket seen in the trailer. Could Sadie Sink be playing a young Jean Grey, or is this another Black Cat bait-and-switch? We analyze the visual evidence and discuss how the MCU is slowly "dropping" mutants into the narrative without a formal announcement. We also spot some deep-cut comic villains like Boomerang and Tarantula that suggest a more grounded, street-level focus for this installment. How Will Dune Handle the Terror of Face Dancers? Shifting gears to Arrakis, we dive into the latest Dune footage. The focus shifts to the terrifying "Face Dancers"—shapeshifters who can infiltrate any organization. We discuss the "Golden Path" and Paul Atreides' realization that his rise to power will be paved with blood. This segment explores the psychological horror elements being brought to the forefront of the sci-fi epic. Timestamps and Topics 00:00:00 - Introductions and Patreon shoutouts. 00:01:13 - Spider-Man: Brave New World trailer reaction. 00:03:10 - Peter Parker's mutation and the "Man-Spider" theory. 00:07:53 - Analyzying the Sadie Sink / Jean Grey cameo clues. 00:15:09 - Dune trailer breakdown: Face Dancers and the Golden Path. 00:26:58 - Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Pre-Game and Kingpin's empire. 00:46:00 - Recommendation of the Week: Primal by Genndy Tartakovsky. Key Takeaways Isolated Hero: Peter Parker's "fresh start" has left him more vulnerable and potentially more dangerous as he struggles with his changing biology. The Mutant Blueprint: The MCU is likely using background characters to establish X-Men lore before the formal team-up. Political Warfare: Daredevil Season 2 isn't just about fighting; it's about Wilson Fisk legitimizing his power through the Mayor's office. Sci-Fi Horror: Dune is leaning heavily into the "Face Dancer" shapeshifting lore, which adds a layer of paranoia to Paul's journey. Quotes "I think a lot of people wanted a grounded Spider-Man, but we're also kind of getting this isolated Spider-Man as well." "Imagine if Fisk was handing that key over instead of her. I'd lose my damn mind." "He knows the golden path is going to be laid in blood. He has to conquer the universe first." Call to Action Follow the show right now so you never miss a theory! It's been 10 years since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters… but has time been kind to one of the most divisive DC Comics movies ever made? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we revisit the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman to answer the big question: Is this movie actually better than we remember… or still a flawed foundation for the DC Universe? Main Discussion starts at 28:00 We break down everything: • Why the Ultimate Edition is superior to the theatrical cut • The ambitious vision of Zack Snyder and the early DCEU • The legendary showdown between Batman and Superman • The stunning comic book panel-style cinematography • The brutal and grounded fight choreography • The controversial portrayal of Lex Luthor • The convoluted plot and Lex's master plan • The dark, brooding tone that never lets up • The introduction of Wonder Woman • The Doomsday design and final battle • Why this movie tried to do WAY too much too soon • Our final thoughts: underrated or rightfully criticized? While opinions on the panel are split, we all agree that Batman v Superman is one of the most ambitious yet flawed superhero movies ever made. Cold Open (First 28 Minutes) Before diving into DC's biggest clash… We react to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer and break down EVERYTHING we spotted: • Appearances from The Punisher, Tarantula, The Hand, and even Bruce Banner • The possibility of seeing Man-Spider on the big screen • Concerns about the movie being overstuffed with characters • Why we're still excited despite potential issues If you love Marvel theories, MCU speculation, and Spider-Man breakdowns, don't miss this segment. It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), The Monster that Challenged the World (1957), and The Giant Gila Monster (1959) There is something special about this decade, one that gave us so many sci-fi / horror films, with plenty of incredible monsters, whether they came from outer space, or right here from our backyard. And thanks to atomic energy, those monsters tended to be big ones! In fact... GIANT ONES! Just imagine a creature, from bugs to animals, and I'm sure someone in the 1950s made a movie about them- one where they were bigger and angrier! In this episode, we take a look at three different examples, each using a different method to bring its humongous beast to life, from stop-motion animation, to practical mechanical effects, to the good old-fashioned approach of using a real creature with undersized sets. Happy New Year and Post Valentines Day Yes, it has been a long time since I posted, mostly because I have been busy with work and personal commitments and projects but recently, I have decided to "lean" back into the "dating pool". Like many of us, I don't NEED someone, but it would be nice to have a companion/partner. Reluctantly I subscribed to Match.com again and registered on Tinder, Bumble and Hinge - what the hell am I doing...ha ha! I have not had any success in any of these in the past so I thought I would try one last time. (wish me luck) I am also going to get out more and see if I can meet someone in the "wild" by playing golf, pickleball, day hikes, sporting events and more. Here is a link from TicTok regarding the "Tarantula Woman" - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZThHd1yK8/I have never heard the term before but as I look back on my last "relationship" this is exactly the woman I was seeing and I was too blind to her behavior until now, and now I see who she was and am glad that I ended that "relationship" a few years ago as it was very draining in many ways. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this as I am certain that there are men like this too!

Horror movies, holiday slashers, and classic monster mayhem collide in this episode of This Week in Horror History, covering December 8–14 in spooky cinema. We dig into the releases, icons, and deep cuts that shaped horror long before Christmas morning ever arrived. This week's watch list includes:Christine (1983) – John Carpenter's sleek, icy adaptation of Stephen King's killer-car novel. We look at how this haunted Plymouth went from a modest box office performer to a cult favorite thanks to its mood, music, and vicious metal-on-flesh set pieces. The Wolfman (1941) – Lon Chaney Jr.'s tragic Larry Talbot helped define the sympathetic monster and rewrote the rules for werewolf lore. We talk legacy, atmosphere, and why this frosty Universal chiller still plays perfectly on a cold December night.Scream 2 (1997) – Meta slashers head to college as Sidney Prescott and Ghostface return in a sequel that should've fizzled but absolutely works. Film theory, sequel rules, and late-'90s horror energy all collide in one of the most successful slasher follow-ups ever.Maniac Cop 2 (1990) – An undead cop, wild stunts, and a grimy New York that feels like a haunted maze. We spotlight why this over-the-top sequel is a cult gem for fans of action-horror hybrids. We also roll through a birthday crawl for some horror legends: Rick Baker, Vampira, Bill Nighy, and Dee Wallace, celebrating how their work reshaped monsters, ghosts, and genre weirdos across decades. In our “Then and Now: Meta Slashers” segment, we use Scream 2 as a jumping-off point to talk about how self-aware horror evolved—from '90s snark to today's nostalgia-driven, legacy-sequel era. And for your weekly recommendation, we head back to the 1950s with Tarantula (1955), a giant-spider creature feature that channels Cold War anxieties into big, creepy fun and pairs beautifully with other atomic-age monster flicks. All that plus our sponsor Cozy Earth— 41% off with Promo Code SPOOKY ultra-comfy bedding perfect for staying warm while you binge horror history marathons in December. If you love horror podcasts, classic monster movies, '80s Stephen King adaptations, and meta slasher sequels, this week's trip through the dates will fill your holiday season watchlist and keep your nights eerie all December long.
