To support the U.S. potato industry in its three-decade-old effort to open Japan's market to U.S. fresh potatoes, National Potato Council CEO Kam Quarles and Bryant Christie, Inc.'s Matt Lantz traveled to Japan in late September to offer their expertise during U.S.-Japan plant health technical meetings. Kam and Matt called into the Eye on Potatoes podcast to report on the trip and the ongoing political roadblocks erected by Japanese regulators to prevent competition with their domestic potato growers.  Although the U.S. has had market access to Japan for chipping potatoes since 2006, the U.S. is seeking market access for all fresh potatoes, including table stock potatoes. Already the second largest market for U.S. potatoes, Japan's market for U.S. fresh potato exports is estimated at $150 million to $200 million annually, once fully opened. In this week's episode, we're throwing it back to a conversation I had with my friend and former mentor, Matt Lantz, on the topic of identity and how we live out our God-given design. God has created each of us uniquely, with specific wirings and gifts so that we might use those strengths for the glory of God. God has also called each of us—to specific places, roles, and tasks—so that we might make much of him wherever he has placed us. Matt will dive more into all of this in this episode, so we hope you will richly benefit from his wisdom on these topics! We pray this conversation encourages you to prayerfully consider what it looks like to live in light of who you are in Christ.   DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What is identity? What influences your identity?  In one sentence, how would you describe who God has created you to be and what he has called you to do? In what ways do you currently live out the identity and calling God has given you? How has your community influenced and shaped your identity and calling? On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Matt Lantz about serving the Body of Christ with our spiritual gifts. Matt gave us an overview of the purpose and function of each of the spiritual gifts and how we can go about identifying our gifts and use them to serve in our local churches. What’s the purpose of stewarding our gifts for the glory of God?   Matt is a husband, father, and pastor who lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and three children. He’s a graduate of TCU and Dallas Theological Seminary and has been working in full-time ministry since 2000 preparing the way for the Lord Jesus in the lives of men and women. Matt was the founding director of a discipleship program called the Forge at Pine Cove where he spent 12 years helping young men and women learn their identity and steward it well. He has recently moved on from the Forge and is now serving as the Recruitment and Development Pastor and the Associate Pastor of the West Campus at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, TX.   MATT’S RESOURCES Talk to your church Serve Ask a mentor for their insight   DEVELOPING AN IDENTITY STATEMENT “It’s less about crafting a cool sounding statement, than it is about understanding in humility who you are and how God designed you (Ephesians 2:10). The identity statement is essentially not a discovery of who you are as much as a declaration of what God has done in creating you. You cannot do that by yourself.” With the help of others, begin to determine these three elements of an identity statement: You are designed in this way… To work with these kinds of people… To accomplish this goal “An identity statement is a statement about design, who the design is for, and what the design is meant to accomplish specifically for the kingdom within the Body of Christ.”   CONNECT WITH MATT Website Instagram Twitter   DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What are spiritual gifts? What are the areas in your life that you are naturally good at that you find yourself using for your own purposes? How can knowing that help you see your spiritual gifts? What spiritual gifts do you see in the lives of those around you? What gifts have others seen in you over the course of your life as a Christian? On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I had a chance to chat with Ginger Ciminello about freedom! Ginger and I chat about what it looks like to walk in the freedom we have in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Listen to what she said, “The Gospel is Jesus plus nothing equals salvation. When Satan wants to put on heavy burdens of the consequences of our sin or of the law and saying you have these 613 commands that you have to follow or you are not enough, Jesus instead comes and says, ‘Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, learn from me, for I am humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’”   I confessed to Ginger that it’s a real struggle for me to walk freely, but after this conversation paired with the past two episodes we released on rest with Abigail Dodds and on fear with Matt Lantz, I am finding myself more readily embracing the rest and freedom we have in the Gospel when my fear is rightly oriented on God which leads to a rightly oriented faith in Christ.     GINGER’S RESOURCES Galatians Galatians for You by Tim Keller Breaking Free by Beth Moore You Can Change by Tim Chester Counseling   GINGER’S SIMPLE JOYS Date night with our cup of questions Sunday naps Being in the Bible early in the morning   CONNECT WITH GINGER Website Facebook Instagram Twitter   SPONSORSHIP DETAILS Get more for your money at MyBargainBuddy.com! On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I brought back one of your all-time favorite guests, Matt Lantz! We talked about fear and what happens when our fear is misplaced. I talked about my own wrestle with fear of man and per usual, Matt blew my mind, like when he said, “I’m reminded when I am afraid of something that I am not God. I don’t command anything. And I’m mortal. I can die, I can be hurt. I think God gave us the emotion of fear because he’s the only one worthy of it.” Matt also shares how we can help one another out as friends by reminding one another of the only One who is worthy of our fear. We fear Him because He is good, He commands things, and that He is commanding things for our good, and that He can even do that at our request. So you’ll know him a little better, Matt is a husband, father, and pastor who lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and three children.
