Later, after winning Canada's first Gold Medal in 2022 (plus a bronze as well), we are joined by Max Parrot on the heels of his stellar performance in Beijing! 苏翊鸣一飞冲天创历史|Su Soars into History BooksSnowboarding prodigy Su Yiming etched his name into the history books by winning China's first Olympic gold in the sport on Tuesday to cap his stunning Games debut.2月15日,滑雪天才少年苏翊鸣夺金创造历史纪录,实现了我国单板滑雪运动冬奥会金牌零的突破,为他令人惊叹的冬奥首秀画上句号。By cleanly stomping back-to-back 1800 tricks, the teenager landed the biggest prize so far in his young career-gold in the men's Big Air at the Beijing Winter Olympics. The feat realized a childhood dream to reach the pinnacle of the sport, which he began to learn at the age of 4. Now with two shinning medals, including a slopestyle silver, hung around his neck, the 17-year-old described his superb Olympic debut as an insane experience that has made his sacrifices worthwhile. This feels so surreal that I've finally accomplished what I've dreamed of since I was little," an emotional Su said after finishing his third run as a victory lap. Su secured the gold with a winning total of 182.5 points from his first two jumps. When Beijing won the Olympic bid (in 2015), I was still in elementary school, yet I promised myself that I would try to make it to my home Olympics. To many people, it sounded like an unrealistic goal.“当北京申(冬)奥成功时(2015年),我还在上小学,但我向自己承诺,我要努力,在家门口为国出征,站上冬奥会的领奖台。 "Now it's become a reality, and even better I have finished on top of the podium. I am so proud of myself and thankful to my coach, everybody who supported me along the way and my country."“现在我已经兑现了对自己的承诺。 Also putting down two excellent runs, Norway's Mons Roisland finished second, 10.75 points behind Su, while Canadian rider Max Parrot won bronze (170.25 points). Parrot edged Su to gold in last week's slopestyle. Parrot was full of praise for Su, who idolized the Canadian veteran when he was younger. I'm really happy I've been able to help him reach his goals and I told him that he's gotta make me push my way to be a better snowboarder as well," said Parrot, a five-time World Cup winner in Big Air. I think my goal and also the goals of most of the riders is to promote our sport and to give our love to our sport to anyone else out there and hopefully we have some more younger snowboarders coming soon to the world."“我认为我的目标,同时也是大多数选手的目标,就是推广我们的运动,把我们对运动的热爱传递给其他人。 Over the past four years, Su has combined his innate talent with hard work-under the guidance of renowned Japanese coach Yasuhiro Sato-to produce one of the swiftest rises to prominence the sport has ever seen. When the Shougang Big Air venue hosted its first international event-a World Cup meet in 2019-Su was an obscure qualifier, who didn't even make the final runs. Just over two years later, Su is the name on everyone's lips at the venue's Olympic debut-drawing the whole nation's attention to the sport he loves. The biggest motivation for me is my love for snowboarding," Su said, when asked about the secret to his success. "In snowboarding, I feel like I can demonstrate my own style and creativity. Every time I ride my board, it's always a blissful moment. I hope through my experience, I can inspire more young people to get interested in the sport." Su's golden day matched fellow teenage skier Gu Ailing, who also claimed gold in Big Air's freeski equivalent on Feb 8 at the towering slope built on the former site of a relocated steel mill. Boasting multi-medal performances at the Games, both young athletes have shot to celebrity status in the country while attracting hordes of new fans on social media. Su, a former child actor who featured in action movies, said the Olympic gold will encourage him to seek for more breakthroughs-even beyond his athletic career. "I enjoy snowboarding just as much as I enjoy acting," said Su, who turns 18 on Friday. I think I still have a lot of possibilities to explore in my future career either in snowboarding or in acting. But now I just want to enjoy the moment and celebrate it as the best possible birthday gift."“我想在我未来的职业生涯中,无论是单板滑雪还是表演,我仍然有很多机会去探索。 prodigy英 [ˈprɒdədʒi];美[ˈprɑːdədʒi] n. Team Canada's Max Parrot joins us to talk about his Olympic gold medal win after a battle with cancer. The 2022 Razzie Award nominations. Brian Sauve went viral for a tweet he sent. Considering Mark McMorris' medical history, it's no surprise he jokes about enjoying rare time off between surgeries. It takes another beat to process his comparisons with teammate Max Parrot's recovery from cancer. But that is the unlikely reality: Two guys, buddies on the same team, both at death's door not so long ago… both on the podium in Beijing. You either laugh or cry at life's twists and turns. And McMorris isn't crying. Not everybody can claim a podium every time their sport has been contested in the Olympics. McMorris can: Three Bronze medals in a row. And not everybody at the age of 28 can speak as an elder statesman in their profession. McMorris can do that too. Midway through McMorris' Beijing games (Big Air qualifying begins Monday) Anastasia gives her fellow prairie pal a break from the high octane technical questions. You want to know what's really on McMorris mind at this moment? A whole bunch of music, plenty of love for his home team, respect for the creativity in other people's TikToks, even when he's on the butt end of a meme…and the puzzling appearance of Skateboarder Paul Rodriguez Nikes on the feet of American curler Matthew Hamilton. McMorris loves that. His summary of the situation? It's all sports, It's all good.
Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot took home the Olympic gold medal in men's slopestyle on Monday, just over three years after he was diagnosed with cancer. The Canadian, who said chemotherapy left him "at zero percent" when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2018, beat 17-year-old Chinese home favorite Su Yiming to win gold with a score of 90.96. Exactly three years ago, I was lying in a hospital, and I had no energy, no muscles, no cardio," said the 27-year-old, the silver medalist at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.27岁的帕罗特说:“就在三年前,我还躺在病床上,没有气力,肌肉萎缩,也没法进行有氧运动。” It was the hardest moment in my life, and to be standing here three years later at the Olympics again, doing my passion, laying down the best run I've ever done and winning gold-it's insane."“化疗阶段是我人生中最艰难的时刻。 Su earned the silver. Canada's Mark McMorris produced a strong final run to bump himself up to his third straight bronze, knocking defending champion Red Gerard of the United States off the podium. It was a disappointing day for some of the US medal hopefuls. Gerard couldn't put the Americans in the win column just hours after the heavily favored Mikaela Shiffrin failed to finish in the giant slalom, her best ski racing event. The 27-year-old Parrot was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma about 10 months after winning a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. He underwent 12 treatments of chemotherapy over six months-a process he described as the toughest months of his life. He steadily regained his strength and winning form as he earned Winter X Games gold medals in Big Air and slopestyle in 2019 and 2020. I was going through a true nightmare," Parrot said. "And just the thought of snowboarding was my dream at that point." He was certainly at his best again on Monday, performing one triple cork after another along the Secret Garden course that's lined with a snow replica of the Great Wall. Still, there were some anxious moments-like when his teammate crushed his final run. McMorris raised his right hand in the air after landing his last trick, thinking maybe he had won. But it wasn't good enough to move him past Parrot. McMorris tapped the snow with his board before heading over to hug his teammate. "Max beat cancer, and it's pretty sick to see him do well," said McMorris, who has won a lot of medals, but none of them Olympic gold. chemotherapy英 [ˌkiːməʊˈθerəpi];美[ˌkiːmoʊˈθerəpi] n.
