Considering Mark McMorris' medical history, it's no surprise he jokes about enjoying rare time off between surgeries. It takes another beat to process his comparisons with teammate Max Parrot's recovery from cancer. But that is the unlikely reality: Two guys, buddies on the same team, both at death's door not so long ago… both on the podium in Beijing. You either laugh or cry at life's twists and turns. And McMorris isn't crying. Not everybody can claim a podium every time their sport has been contested in the Olympics. McMorris can: Three Bronze medals in a row. And not everybody at the age of 28 can speak as an elder statesman in their profession. McMorris can do that too. Midway through McMorris' Beijing games (Big Air qualifying begins Monday) Anastasia gives her fellow prairie pal a break from the high octane technical questions. You want to know what's really on McMorris mind at this moment? A whole bunch of music, plenty of love for his home team, respect for the creativity in other people's TikToks, even when he's on the butt end of a meme…and the puzzling appearance of Skateboarder Paul Rodriguez Nikes on the feet of American curler Matthew Hamilton. McMorris loves that. His summary of the situation? It's all sports, It's all good.
Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot took home the Olympic gold medal in men's slopestyle on Monday, just over three years after he was diagnosed with cancer. The Canadian, who said chemotherapy left him "at zero percent" when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2018, beat 17-year-old Chinese home favorite Su Yiming to win gold with a score of 90.96. Exactly three years ago, I was lying in a hospital, and I had no energy, no muscles, no cardio," said the 27-year-old, the silver medalist at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.27岁的帕罗特说:“就在三年前,我还躺在病床上,没有气力,肌肉萎缩,也没法进行有氧运动。” It was the hardest moment in my life, and to be standing here three years later at the Olympics again, doing my passion, laying down the best run I've ever done and winning gold-it's insane."“化疗阶段是我人生中最艰难的时刻。三年后重返奥运赛场,尽我所能取得我有史以来最好的成绩,最后赢得金牌——这一切都太疯狂了。” Su earned the silver. Canada's Mark McMorris produced a strong final run to bump himself up to his third straight bronze, knocking defending champion Red Gerard of the United States off the podium. It was a disappointing day for some of the US medal hopefuls. Gerard couldn't put the Americans in the win column just hours after the heavily favored Mikaela Shiffrin failed to finish in the giant slalom, her best ski racing event. The 27-year-old Parrot was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma about 10 months after winning a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. He underwent 12 treatments of chemotherapy over six months-a process he described as the toughest months of his life. He steadily regained his strength and winning form as he earned Winter X Games gold medals in Big Air and slopestyle in 2019 and 2020. I was going through a true nightmare," Parrot said. "And just the thought of snowboarding was my dream at that point." He was certainly at his best again on Monday, performing one triple cork after another along the Secret Garden course that's lined with a snow replica of the Great Wall. Still, there were some anxious moments-like when his teammate crushed his final run. McMorris raised his right hand in the air after landing his last trick, thinking maybe he had won. But it wasn't good enough to move him past Parrot. McMorris tapped the snow with his board before heading over to hug his teammate. "Max beat cancer, and it's pretty sick to see him do well," said McMorris, who has won a lot of medals, but none of them Olympic gold. chemotherapy英 [ˌkiːməʊˈθerəpi];美[ˌkiːmoʊˈθerəpi] n. In a preview of the most likely gold medal game, the two strongest teams in the sport faced off in the continuation of one of the best rivalries in all of sports. After the stream failing us yesterday, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Max Parrot and Mark McMorris dominating the competition in men's slopestyle snowboarding, bringing home gold and bronze medals.Canada also brought home their first ever medal in ski jumping, taking the bronze in the mixed team event thanks to Alexandra Loutit, Matthew Soukup, Abigail Strate, and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, and Kim Boutin won bronze in the women's 500M short track speed skating event. Donate here: https://bit.ly/LSBuyPint Like all good ideas, the Natural Selection Tour seems obvious in hindsight. The world’s best riders on a specially built course designed to showcase snowboarding at its most progressive and stylish? Conveyed using next-level production and designed to nudge snowboarding away from the evolutionary cup de sac we’ve been heading down for years? Why on earth has nobody thought of this before? The answer is that similar ideas have been mooted in the past. But it took somebody with the clout, vision and sheer dogged energy of Travis Rice to make it a reality. It’s been an endeavour, as Travis explains during our conversation, “50 years in the making”, and with the dust settling we sat down for a catch up about a truly historical moment for competitive snowboarding. As regular listeners will know, I’ve also had a tiny involvement in Natural Selection as a member of the five person Selection Committee alongside Travis, event COO Liam Griffin and industry legends Barrett Christy and Pat Bridges. As part of that arrangement, Travis agreed to come on the show to discuss the entire show once Jackson was in the bag. The result is an expansive, illuminating chat that takes in the entire lengthy backstory to Natural Selection, what it means for snowboarding, and how Travis felt about losing to eventual winner Mark McMorris in THAT quarter final match up. This is a peerless insight into the entire NS story from the man who made it happen. Don’t miss it. Big thanks to Travis for this one, as well as my friends Liam, Lora and Brantley for their help in making this happen. Thanks to Matt Ward for the theme tune, and to my editor Fina Charleson.

(Psa. 37:1)Don't be envious of those who appear to only succeed in the world's eyes. When we fall, it's an opportunity to rise and it glorifies God's name when we persevere because he is the one who gives us the strength to overcome. Let us not be afraid to rise, with faith in God of all mercy, who can be against us?

Undoubtly one of the best to ever strap into a snowboard. Mark McMorris has achieved what most could only dream; winning 17 X-games metals, 2 olympics metals, first boarder to land a triple cork 1440 and well pretty much being able to do any trick he can image. Being born in the middle of nowhere AKA Saskatchewan may be an unlikely place to produce a snowboard prodigy but Mark doesn't really beleive in set backs. In fact he thrives under pressure. He has shown his ability to focus and come back from massive set backs both mentally and physically, again and again. Being the best in the world at any action sport comes at a high cost and Mark has paid the price, with an array of injuries the kid is walking proof of just how powerful the human mind is. Year after year he continues to push not only himself but the entirety of snowboarding. Tune in as we chat about the power of the mind, manifestation, riding for Burton, Jake Burton's passing and the impact he left on him and snowboarding, the importance of video's and video parts, childhood hero's, growing up in Regina, his older brother Craig, giving back, upcoming plans, where he draws inspiration from and much more. Enjoy the show!
