The wind stops blowing. The sun goes down. What happens next?Former U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz explains why the transition to clean energy may be far more complicated than most people realize. In one of the most clear-eyed conversations about our energy future, Moniz pulls back the curtain on what it will actually take to build energy that is clean, reliable, and affordable - and why some of the hardest challenges have little to do with solar panels or wind turbines. He reveals which emerging technologies - from hydrogen to nuclear fusion - could reshape the future of energy, why storage remains a major hurdle, and what many people misunderstand about renewable power. What will it really take to keep the lights on in a low-carbon world?

The whole gang talked with Erin Moniz—Baylor University chaplain, Anglican deacon, and author of the excellent book Knowing and Being Known—about developing a Christian theology of intimacy. Erin's approach to intimacy offers as a valuable critique for our culture's obsession with romance and sex. Even more importantly, she offers a positive theological vision, exploring how friendships, family, and community relationships can become primary places where we are known, loved, and formed in Christ—with specific thoughts for queer/same-sex-attracted Side B Christians. Ainda nesta segunda parte, Margarida levanta um pouco o véu sobre o telefilme que irá filmar no último semestre deste ano, e sobre uma certa mudança profissional e pessoal que vai impor a si mesma a partir de agora. Whether you're single or married, young or old, finding and keeping meaningful and genuine personal relationships is what we all desire. In our digital age, relationship building is not easy. Young people are finding people to date on apps, and they are communicating with friends on social media. No matter whether you're married or single, we all need to understand how to have healthy relationships.College chaplain Erin Moniz is deeply attuned to the questions and concerns of today's emerging adults. In her new book, Knowing and Being Known: Hope for All Our Intimate Relationships (IVP, 2025), she explores the essential elements of healthy relationships, addresses the complexities of intimacy, and shines a light on the barriers that can impede genuine connection. What we discuss in this episode:* The secular culture says that the two key benchmarks of full adulthood are (1) Autonomy, and (2) Sexual Activity. * But the sad truth is that this hypersexuality and romance idolatry has seeped into the church. We still see adulthood in these categories, though they're framed slightly differently.* We begin to reimagine a theology that emphasizes the importance of intimacy in all our relationships (with God and with our fellow humans).* The Fall introduced shame into our relationships. Shame is destructive and is not the same as guilt or conviction. * Erin explains how vulnerability is the currency of intimacy.* While marriage and family remain important, the church and other ministries need to focus on what true friendship is and how to develop friends. What if our dating struggles, friendship breakdowns, and even church conflicts trace back not to technique—but to theology? In this episode of Thinking Christian, Dr. James Spencer sits down with Erin Moniz—Anglican deacon, Baylor chaplain, and author of Knowing and Being Known—to rethink Christian relationships from the ground up. They tackle purity culture’s lingering effects, the idolization of marriage, the crisis of friendship in the local church, and how consumerism has crept into everything from dating to discipleship. At the heart of the conversation is a bold, refreshing claim: intimacy isn’t a bonus feature of the Christian life. It’s central to knowing God. In today's episode, we're exploring intimacy - a concept that's far more complex than most of us realize. My guest, Erin Moniz, has been studying how we connect, disconnect, and misunderstand relationships in our current cultural moment. We'll dig into some critical questions: What does intimacy actually mean beyond romantic relationships? How have cultural messages - both inside and outside the church - distorted our understanding of connection? And what might a more holistic approach to knowing and being known look like? Erin brings a unique perspective as a college chaplain who's counseled countless emerging adults navigating relationships. We'll discuss how technology impacts our connections, why friendships matter as much as romantic partnerships, and how the gospel offers a different framework for understanding human relationships. This isn't a prescriptive how-to conversation, but an exploration of our fundamental human need for genuine connection. We'll challenge some assumptions about singleness, marriage, and community, and hopefully provide a more nuanced view of intimacy. So join us.Rev. Erin F. This self-contained chamber opera is actually scene 7 from a longer opera of the same name that tells three stories from the history of 20th century brain science (rather than a screenplay we worked with a libretto). it was filmed very quickly with little resources and involved professional and non-professional cast & crew. The Morbid Curiosity Podcast

CW: animal experimentation, mental illness, suicide, non-consensual surgical procedures, malpractice and abuse in mental health facilities. One of the most infamous procedures from the era of psychosurgery is the Lobotomy. From the beginning there was criticism that lobotomy was too unpredictable and invasive to treat mental illness. Despite this, the procedure was marketed as a miracle cure and thousands of vulnerable people were subjected to it, with and without their consent.

American neurologist Walter Jackson Freeman had refined Moniz's procedure and developed a non-surgical procedure that could be performed in a doctor's office, which he called a transorbital lobotomy. Freeman's procedure involved inserting a medical instrument similar to an icepick into the patient's orbital socket to sever the neural connections, without requiring surgery, hospital stays, and long recovery times. Touted as a quick, easy, and painless solution to everything from general malaise and occasional depression to schizophrenia and aggressive behavior, the procedure a go-to solution for the very complex psychological problems that have affected countless people for centuries. Unfortunately, while the procedure was effective for a small number of those who received a lobotomy, it was used indiscriminately, often without consideration for the increasingly disastrous outcomes.Today we talk about the tragic and disastrous lobotomy on Rosemary Kennedy and thousands more that occured after it. When Portuguese neurologist Egas Moniz developed the lobotomy in 1935, it was little more than a crude surgery developed as a blanket treatment for mental illness that involved drilling into the skull and scrambling the neural connections in the frontal lobe. Less than a decade later, however, American neurologist Walter Jackson Freeman had refined Moniz's procedure and developed a non-surgical procedure that could be performed in a doctor's office, which he called a transorbital lobotomy. What he touted as successes, quickly turned into a series of life altering failures...but he kept going.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
