In Part 10 of the Who or What Series, on the only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, Michael O’Neil from The SoloPreneur Hour, Drew Manning from Fit to Fat to Fit, and Omar Zenhom from the $100 MBA Show talk to your host Travis Chappell about whether they believe who or what is more important, and why. Episode Highlights: Michael O’Neil Everything Michael does is done with a purpose. Michael attributes 100% of his success to his podcast, it has helped him connect with people. You can know people but if you can’t back it up, it’s a problem. The most important things to do to network at a conference: Walk into every conference with two pressing questions you have about your business. Have a six-work intro. Drew Manning Started as a personal trainer and couldn’t understand why his clients wouldn’t just workout. Drew gained a lot of weight on purpose and then lost it again to better understand his clients mindsets. How Drew leveraged his story to get on major networks, blogs, and big outlets. You never know where networking is going to land yu and help you connect the dots. Who you know is more important because knowledge can be obtained later on. Nobody cares what you know unless they know that you care. Omar Zenhom Founder of Webinar Ninja and the $100 MBA Show. You don’t know what will happen in life but who you know will help you. People are more willing to help a friend out than a stranger. There shouldn’t be a difference between networking and making friends. Be open and say yes to certain opportunities when they present themselves. 3 Key Points: Knowing people give you opportunities, knowing things keeps opportunities coming. A consistent effort in networking creates a strong and healthy brand. Don’t look to get something out of someone, just look to make friends. Tweetable Quotes: “Unequivocally, nothing is more important than relationships in your life.” -Michael O’Neil “Networking has to be nonstop, it’s like fitness.” -Drew Manning “I’m more eager to help a friend out than a random stranger.” -Omar Zenhom Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at Buildyournetwork.co (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/) Learn more about mentorships and masterminds for FREE at freemmcourse.com/enroll (http://www.freemmcourse.com/join) Download Meet Your Hero at travischappell.com/hero (http://travischappell.com/hero) Explode Your Network at travischappell.com/explode (http://travischappell.com/explode) Go to Rothys.com/Travis to check out comfortable, sustainable shoes. Almost two decades ago, Michael O’Neil lay on a hospital bed awaiting chemotherapy having just recently been informed he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He had more questions than he had answers, and had no where to turn at the bedside to get informed and be engaged. That was the genesis for his rapidly growing and global company called Get Well Network – designed to educate, inform, and engage the patient throughout the course of their medical management. At a time when Google was just an infant, Facebook had not been conceived, and smart phones were just a futuristic vision…Michael charted into unknown territory and not only beat the odds in defeating his cancer, but also grew Get Well Network into a behemoth of company busting through walls as a pioneer in the patient engagement space. On this episode, Michael shares it all…from how his experience of being diagnosed with cancer prompted the idea for Get Well Network, to the hurdles he had to overcome along the way, to where he believes the market has evolved over the past 20 years. All this and more on today’s episode. Now, That’s Unusual. About Michael O’Neil The healthcare tech industry chose Michael O’Neil in 1999 when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 28-years-old, completing his graduate work at Georgetown when he received the diagnosis, and the experience of having the tumor removed and enduring four cycles of chemotherapy led him to envision a more connected environment where a patient was empowered with access to information at the point of care. O’Neil founded GetWellNetwork in 2000 with the intention of partnering with hospitals to improve outcomes through patient engagement. The leading provider of interactive patient care solutions, the GetWellNetwork patient engagement platform is exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association and the DAISY Foundation for Nursing. The company works with 500 hospitals and 300 clinics to incorporate its Interactive Patient Care model across the continuum of care. Last year alone, four million patients were admitted to a GetWell bed and a million and a half patients came through a GetWell clinic. GetWellNetwork has been named to the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 and Inc. 5000 lists as one of America’s fastest growing private companies. In addition, O’Neil was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year for 2016 in the health category for the Mid-Atlantic region. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization as well as Mindshare, a group of high-tech CEOs who seek to foster entrepreneurship in Washington DC. Key Interview Takeaways GetWellNetwork is focused on helping people live their best lives by taking an active role in their health journey. The team works with providers to create a patient-centered care experience that drives improved healthcare outcomes. O’Neil has observed two major changes for the better in the healthcare space over the last decade: 1) The convergence of healthcare information technology and consumer technology to reframe how care is delivered, and 2) A shift in the regulatory environment to a value-based care model that emphasizes patient engagement. The success of GetWellNetwork can be attributed to the fact that it got into the guts of healthcare delivery. Being imbedded in hospitals (a ‘captive environment’ where patients are most engaged) has afforded the company the credibility to now serve patients outside the clinical setting where they are tracking their own care. GetWellNetwork employs clinical statisticians to measure outcomes around readmission rates, fall rates, medication adherence, hospital admissions and satisfaction scores. This data analysis demonstrates value and provides accountability. Patient engagement is a team sport with the patient serving as quarterback. For that reason, GetWellNetwork applies an inside-out model, developing digital pathways that are prescribed by the care team. Healthcare must employ a hybrid of digital and human engagement....

Thoughts On Breathing No suggestions on breathing Suggested Resources Book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho App: Evernote Bullying Story If I could time travel I think I would go back and stand up for myself, so I probably wouldn't be mindful. There were 3 or 4 incidents in my life where I was a bit bullied. I'd be the opposite of mindful. I think mindfulness can be considered a very mature concept and even a lot of adults don't understand it and they can't mentally get to where they need to get so they can remove themselves from the equation. Sometimes there's not enough self-awareness for people to be mindful and so I think that's a bit of a rich concept for a kid whose being bullied. That's not to say that it's impossible. I'm thinking about this one incident. He was probably one of the bullies of the school and he would do that move where he would hit shoulders in the hallway and he would nail me like a hockey cross check. He would check me as we were walking down the hallway. He was the kid who could do thirty pull-ups. He was really ripped and super strong. I don't know if he did anything other than have great genetics. He was just a jerk, a jerky kid. As I'm thinking now, I would probably go to the principal's office and say, look, this is happening and I'm not going to tell you who it is, but don't surprised if I end up in this office. I never did that. I was always scared of the kid. Knowing what I know now about every one of the incidents; it probably only happened 3 or 4 times when somebody was a jerk to me repeatedly. It's just standing up for yourself a little bit that makes them go to somebody else. I wouldn't have had the capacity (that I have now), to say, I know you're in a lot of pain and I can tell that you probably don't have a very good home life and you're looking at me and you're feeling like you can take advantage of me. Ok, but I bet we've got some stuff in common. That's where I would go now with it. But that's about sixty percent of what I would do now. The other forty percent's still in Philly and I would fight back now. I'd say, we can talk about it or I can whack you over the head or something.

Well it's not often that you read on a persons LinkedIn profile such bit of essential business building information such as "I'm interested in muscle cars, classic rock (Pink Floyd, The Eagles), vinyl records, the ocean, sunshine, Apple products and concerts. I'm known as ♫ The LinkedIn Rockstar ♫, but I don't work for LinkedIn." And that, as we see time and time again on Join Up Dots is the profile of someone that is having fun, being authentic and rocking it bigtime. Starting his career as an IT professional in Phoenix Arizona is seems to me that he was either a man on a mission or someone who got bored with roles quite easily. As he moved every few years from one position to another, seemingly looking for his thing, but of course gaining experience as he went. But it was when he moved into the career of Event planning and Networking that it all came together. He had found his thing, and now with his own radio show, a passion for Key Note speaking and motivational presentations and of course sharing LinkedIn best practices he is loving everyday. He is being true to himself, playing to his strengths and earning a living whilst doing it! So what was it about LinkedIn that really got him excited enough to build a whole business around it? And why does he feel that we all seem to go through the same search at the beginnings of our careers? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Mike O'Neil, the LinkedIn Rockstar.
