In addressing systemic issues, Andre underscores the urgency of comprehensive reforms, urging stakeholders to invite experienced voices to articulate viable solutions.   As the conversation delves into the heart of reform, Mirena and Andre uncover a profound truth: the remedy for a broken prison system does not lie within its walls but finds its roots in the earliest stages of societal development, notably, kindergarten. He passionately refutes the notion that certain children, even those from affluent families, are exempt from the harsh realities of life. His poignant message to parents resounds – "Don't believe your kids don't count." Reflecting on his personal path, he underscores the impossibility of growing up without a dream. For Andre, the core of change resides in helping individuals, irrespective of background, discover and resolve their pain, fostering a collective responsibility toward rehabilitation that begins long before one encounters the criminal justice system.   As the episode comes to a close, Andre confronts the stark realities of a broken prison system, highlighting the pressing need to address the operation's severe understaffing and the unsafe conditions that act as a mere "warehouse" for individuals. The conversation takes a poignant turn, highlighting the crucial role of cultural communication as a vital bridge for healing the rift between staff and inmates. He emphasizes the profound lack of trust among inmates, whose "wounds run as deep as the ocean." With a committed goal to guide individuals towards becoming the best versions of themselves, Andre passionately announces his upcoming seminar event in December, a beacon of hope for those seeking transformation. In the final moments, Andre leaves us with a somber reminder of life's fragility, encapsulated in the heartrending tale of a young soul lost. In a resounding final plea, Andre implores: "Don't judge the help, just accept the help."

She earned her Associate of Arts from Bard College and her Bachelor's in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. She is in the Harvard Business School President's Program and a Young President's Organization (YPO) member. She enjoys flying her commercial multi-engine pilot's license in her spare time with an instrument rating. She started her first business in high school and was has been on the cover of Inc Magazine and was recognized on both Inc. and Forbes Magazine's "30 under 30" superstar entrepreneurs. Her combined companies have a value of over one billion dollars.Show Notes: Jess's entrepreneurial journey started at 13 because she knew she "did not want to work for anyone else." She started a business to solve her own problem and then used it to solve others. Barnes and Noble was her first mentor as she was pulling books off the shelve to learn about business. She realized early how important it was to learn and grow and later get mentors and coaches to help her build her business. (11:45) Business got easier as it got larger and scaled. The hardships of the early days will not last forever. (14:30) Don't compare yourself to others...you are in competition with yourself. Focus on your "next step" and your journey! Jess likes the ratio of focusing 80% on the next 45 days, 10% on the next quarter, and 10% on the next one to five years out. (15:50) "People consistently overestimate what they can get done in the next 30 days but underestimate what they can achieve in five to ten years." (17:15) Entrepreneur communities are super important to support each other on your journey. (18:45) The real challenge is our mindset and attitude. Most entrepreneurs have an understanding of what needs to happen next.  (24:25) The greatest growth comes from taking advantage of the latest trends! How are you going to leverage AI?  (26:10) Time blocking is a productivity hack that people can use to accomplish more. Elon Musk does this. (30:00) What is the difference between the entrepreneurial vs. employee mindset? First, the biggest difference is you have to have a sense of ownership. Everything starts and ends with you. Second, you have to be optimistic at all times. This also bleeds over to your personal life. Third, you need to grow yourself constantly. How do you evolve as a person and leader? (32:15) "There is no such thing as work-life balance. As an entrepreneur, your business is part of you. You don't have spouse life or child life balance...they are a part of your life." (37:00) How do you have an optimistic attitude when things are going wrong and during a crisis?  (41:00) If you have never taken a leap in your career or life, you are probably not pushing the boundaries enough. (43:00) When Jess moved from software to biotech, she knew it would be a ten-year investment and she had to be willing to be uncomfortable and start all over. Being an outsider allows you to see things that others may miss, push the boundaries, and be innovative. "The more you learn, the more you are able to learn new stuff and it becomes exponential." Examples are Steve Jobs and Elon Musk (48:00) Jess gives insights she has about the future based on her research and investments. (51:45) If Jess had the ability to give a State of the Union Address to the American people what would she say? If you enjoyed this episode, please follow us on Apple or Spotify and give us a review. Miguel is a member of the Young President's Organization (YPO) and is home based in Houston, Texas. He has spent the past 25 years in the food and agriculture industries and is now helping to revolutionize both with new food tech and agri-tech.  His revolutionary technology uses non-arable land, salt water, and the sun as their energy source to produce the world's best omega-3 and complex proteins. In the process, he is creating jobs and new industries for local populations. IWILife.com has been featured on CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Guardian, Fast Company, and many other outlets. Show Notes: Algae omega has three times the absorption rate of fish oil omega. Algae protein is better than egg and whey, has all the amino acids needed, and is highly soluble. You can grow 20 pounds of essential amino acids per acre of peas per year, 71 pounds of essential amino acids of beef per acre, per year, but with algae, you can grow 6,000 pounds of essential amino acids per acre per year! This is a massive breakthrough!Furthermore, it does not use current freshwater or agricultural land but rather previously unusable desert land and salt water.  You need 9,000 gallons of fresh water to produce 1 pound of amino acids from peas, and 17,000 gallons of fresh water to produce 1 pound of essential amino acids from beef, and with algae, they use ZERO fresh water. (11:00) - Miguel tells his origin story and the idea behind IWILife.com in 2016. Miguel announces the launch of a new product, a three-ounce protein drink with 17 grams of natural protein that has all the branch chain amino acids better than egg and whey. 33% of daily needed protein...an "8-hour protein!"The three most important aspects of a successful food, drink, or protein...Miguel says it is "Taste, Taste, Taste!" (19:30) Miguel shares his go-to-market strategy. (21:30) Miguel shares how he builds and grows a company during a difficult economy post-COVID. "The challenge is everything we are doing is new. This is also a new category. We have to explain it to the customer."  Strong clinical studies on the product and thousands of consumers raving about the product is helping growth. "Many times in life, you have to choose between making an impact or doing a profitable business. In our case, they are both the same!" We are democratizing farming and making great, profitable products. (27:00) - "If you want to build a successful business, you need to convince the consumer that your product is better than the current best product in the market." (32:00) - The middle east has what we need, "Sun, Sand, Salt Water."  "Our people are not just motivated by a job or career...they know they are doing something that will change the world. It is bigger than us." It is all about having a purpose-driven motivation over an economic motivation. What are the Top 5 that Miguel focuses on:  The Boss = The Customer...are you listening to their needs and what they are telling you? The Team = Have you hired the right team with the right motivations and culture? The Partners = Your suppliers and retailers are a critical component to your operation. The Community = Are you positively impacting the community where you work? The Investors = Do you have the right investors helping you? (47:00) - What is going on with Agri-Tech and Food-Tech today? How is the world advancing in these areas? (51:00) - The city of Houston food bank provides 151 million meals a year to food-insecure people! This is between 400-600K meals a day! Book Recommendations Extreme Ownership - Jocko Willnik  Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence - Max Tegmark Human Compatible: Artificial Intelligence and the Problem of Control - Stuart Russell (1:04:00) - How would Miguel encourage people to be big dreamers and try to do what others say is impossible? There is no such thing as a dream too big. Denise talks to KC Crain, President of the privately held media giant, Crain Communications. Navigating the global transformation of the media industry and building a technology company around media is something he's proud of, with good reason. The family business produces news across publications, lead generation, research and data products, digital platforms, custom publishing, and events, reaching 78 million readers globally; the company's portfolio consists of 24 brands.  Crain sites two tough situations he's faced that have helped him to grow. The first was an absolute failure to launch a new business. The second was starting over. He's learned the art of communication, in an environment that provides opportunities to hone his skills, exercising the courage to be honest.  “Confidence,” he says, “is learned.” Crain has a passion for learning, investing his time and effort into diving deeply into his subject matter. It makes sense. With increasing knowledge and expertise comes increasing confidence.  His advice to those who are thinking of joining a family business is as wise and humorous as it gets, “Go work somewhere else for a while.” He credits his ability to follow in his father and grandfather's footsteps to understanding that no one person has all the answers. You can learn from anyone on the team, older or younger, at any time. Be open-minded and open to change.  As a husband and father of five children, he's taken his mom's words to heart—I don't care what happens with the family company, I care what happens at Thanksgiving.  Like many Detroiters, Crain has fond memories of the city's sports wins, and the energy its teams bring to the city. But having been in Detroit for over 50 years, Crain has enjoyed seeing the Riverfront and Central Business District come to life.  Denise enthusiastically agrees with her guest, “I think we've got one of THE most generous cities in America.”  ***  KC Crain is President and CEO for Crain Communications, Inc. His previous roles include COO, EVP and Director of Corporate Operations, VP and Group Publisher. He started as a reporter for Automotive News. Crain is board chair for the Detroit Children's Fund and sits on the boards of the Young Presidents Organization, and the College for Creative Studies. He is dedicated to Detroit's economic development with investments and partnerships in real estate and restaurant ventures. Crain earned a BA in Communications from Denison University. He and his wife, Ashley, live in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with their five children.  Denise Ilitch, an owner of Ilitch Family Companies and President of Ilitch Enterprises, has been a part of Detroit's business and philanthropic community for over 40 years.  As a mother, lawyer, entrepreneur, devoted community servant and tireless advocate for women and children, she learned early, from her father, that everyone is worthy of contributing to the world.  Her passion for affordable, accessible, quality education stems from her own experience as a first-generation student, earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, where she currently serves on the Board of Regents.  FOLLOW DENISE @thedeniseilitchshow  TO LEARN MORE about all our inspiring podcasts visit https://www.lifestough.com/.

This conversion of culture and conscious business was so fluid that you would have thought that Kindra and her two guests, Adam and Thomas, had known each other and talked for years. This was the first time we have done a live stream where the guests could listen and post questions on the Culture Crush Business Podcast- and it was awesome! Thank you to all of the listeners that chimed in and posted questions in the chat. Thank you to Phoenix Business RadioX and Conscious Capitalism Arizona Chapter for sharing it out. They were great questions that we went over toward the end of the show. This conversation dove into many stories and examples of the actions and importance for growing a conscious business- even if it seems a little backwards sometimes. For example, Adam discussed how Goodmans Interior Structures no longer requires their office staff to come into the office to work. This might seem a little backwards for a company that builds and sells office furniture. Instead, they are assessing and redesigning the office into a place where employees want to come into the office. They took into consideration what the employees said and wanted and are putting it into action. This conscious business move will help grow and support the needs of the employees, and therefore the overall culture of the company. This conversation is a great one to listen to if you are a leader trying to improve your company culture and wanting to learn more about conscious capitalism and how it can help influence and support the change you are trying to make in your company. According to Thomas, “Consciousness has no finish line” which means we can always learn and add to our growth and our tool box. When it comes to helping companies grow in conscious ways, Thomas is the man for the job. He has supported the growth of various Conscious Capitalism chapters as well as helped over 800 leaders in his program on developing their conscious journey. He gives away a few of these tips in the podcast conversation with Adam as well. Thank you to our sponsor, the Conscious Capitalism Arizona Chapter, for seeing the value in this conversation of conscious capitalism, culture, and these two amazing gentlemen. Conscious Capitalism Arizona Chapter (CCAZ) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose, in partnership with Conscious Capitalism Inc (CCI), is to build a movement of business leaders improving the practice and perception of capitalism to elevate humanity so that billions of people flourish, leading lives infused with passion, purpose, love and creativity; a world of freedom, harmony, prosperity, and compassion. His mission is simple: to awaken and inspire people across the planet to access inner freedom, live authentically and fulfill their true life's purpose.    In this episode, Jordan and Kute discuss: There is a profound revolution happening on the planet Empowerment from letting go  A different perspective on how the generations are relating A critical gift of the greatest leaders Key Takeaways Sometimes your soul guides you to do something that may not make sense nor be convenient at the moment. Listen to your soul because it will lead you to where you are meant to be.  One of the greatest gifts a leader can give is for others to be able to see who you really are when they can't see themselves. When they look into your eyes they don't see their own BS, they see their magnificence You can't control the ocean, but you can control how you surf the waves. It is the same with life, you can't control what happens but you control the meaning that you give to it. Surrender is about letting go of control - it's letting go of trying to force and manipulate how you think life should be - so that you can truly be available and open to the authentic life that is seeking to truly happen.  The younger generation needs to recognize that people older than them have paved the way for the kind of life they are able to live right now. They must respect their wisdom and experience. Older generations too have a responsibility to give respect, to empower, and to exemplify true leadership to the younger generations. Mutual respect is necessary.  The only way we will truly evolve is to honor the blessing of both the newer generation and the older generation. The younger generation must recognize that the older generation may have the wisdom that they newer generation lacks while the newer generation has the progress and new ideas that the older generation are reluctant to accept.  “When you find your true purpose, that's when the real challenges begin and those challenges are like soul tests that you have to go through and order to grow through to prepare you to develop the mental, emotional, psychological, spiritual muscle to be able to fulfill your true destiny.” —  Kute Blackson   Check out Kute's latest book, “The Magic of Surrender: Finding the Courage to Let Go” by clicking on this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LMJ8YQF/  Connect with Kute Blackson:   Website: https://kuteblackson.com/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kute-blackson-35755519/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/kuteblackson  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kuteblacksonlovenow  Instagram: http://instagram.com/kuteblackson  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/KuteBlackson/  Books: https://www.amazon.com/Kute-Blackson/e/B01F4GXVOQ/  Connect with Jordan:  For executives wanting a complimentary executive coaching conversation: jordan@jordangoldrich.com  Website: www.workplacewarriorinc.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordangoldrich1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jordan.goldrich Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordangoldrich/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jgoldrich/

In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Matt discuss: Actively engaging God in all you do. Listening when God directs you in your life. Learning to be present and embracing the moments of life. Business as a mission, making an impact, and living well.   Key Takeaways: You do not need to be like everyone else. Be willing to be different and unapologetically you. God is the author of your story, not you. He is in control of your life, we only think we have control.  What you believe is important, but how you implement that belief is more so. You can make an impact where you are in business and glorify God in the process. You do not need to have mission and business as two separate aspects of your life.   "I think it just behooves all of us to really see Christ above all, and put our identity in Him and Him alone." —  Matt Morris About Matt Morris: Matthew (Matt) Morris is an active board member, advisor, and investor with industry expertise in the Real Estate, Financial Services, and Technology sectors. From 2011 through 2020, Matt served as the President and CEO of Stewart Information Services Corporation after joining the company in 2004. Imagine you're my guest for a moment. You're 11 years old, and for as long as you can remember, you have ridden on your grandfather's shoulders as he recounted tales of the family businesses' trials and tribulations, while walking you through your family's property and buildings. Your grandfather frequently shares with pride: “Reg, one day, you'll own all of this.” Then suddenly, at 11 years old, you get a call. Your grandfather had an accident and has died. Stunned, you watch a family war break out in front of your eyes. Your family is torn apart – brother against brother, cousin against cousin – and your father is expected to take over the company at an age far younger than he ever anticipated. Now you're an adult? What would you do? My guest today, Reg Athwal, chose to become the bridge that brought his family back together. And now, because of his experience watching a family business be torn apart and then reconciled, he now breaks the code on running successful family businesses. Reg is the Founder & Chairman of RTS Global Partners and Founder & Chief Educator of the Family Business Academy, and he has privately advised 200+ family-owned businesses and family offices in 25 countries over 2 decades. “Only 3% of businesses get to the 4th generation. One of the longest standing family businesses in the US is the Shirley Plantation. There is a family business in Japan that is on the 43rd generation! How did they do this? There are three things everyone must have to build a legacy…” – Reg AthwalWhat are the key factors that determine the success of a multi-generational family business? Reg cracks the code for us today. We listen to his experience and perspective on: • What parents/grandparents can do to help their children “catch the fire” to take over the company • What Reg's family does to ensure each child is encouraged to developed entrepreneurial and leadership skills of their own • The largest pitfalls many family businesses face that cause them to fail • Ways to create harmony and unity in the family, including a core set of values As someone who runs my own family business (real estate and property management), I have experienced the exact challenges + joys that Reg dissects for us today! ------------------ Connect with Reg!
