In this episode, we're excited to speak with Brandon Rembert, a former HBCU baseball standout at Alcorn State and current MLB scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brandon's story is one of perseverance, vision, and breaking barriers in a sport that hasn't always been inclusive. As one of the few Black executives in Major League Baseball—where only 7% of executives are Black—he stands as a trailblazer, eager to make a difference both on and off the field.Quoted in Forbes, Brandon highlights "The game of baseball teaches you about yourself." With the sport notorious for its emphasis on failure, where even the best batters succeed less than half the time, Brandon shares how these experiences of facing adversity have shaped his mindset, his work ethic, and his approach to life. From navigating the struggles of being an athlete at a HBCU to establishing himself in a competitive and often exclusive industry, his story and battling injury is a testament to resilience, passion, and unwavering dedication. In this conversation, we explore the significance of representation in baseball and how Brandon's presence in the executive ranks is part of a larger movement to diversify the sport. We talk about the challenges of scouting, how he evaluates talent, and the broader vision he holds for the game he loves. Brandon shares how his background as a player prepared him for the highs and lows of life in baseball and how his work continues to open doors for the next generation of athletes and professionals. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the intersection of sports, business, and representation. Brandon Rembert's story will inspire you to rethink what it means to succeed in a game built on resilience, and how one person can impact an entire industry through determination and purpose.Tap in...Be sure to subscribe, rate, and review the show on your favorite podcast platform. One opinion I often hear is that MLB teams need more young Black people in their front office. That is true, but the path to getting into a position as an MLB Front Office Executive is tricky. Those future GMs may have grind at levels they didn't even know existed. Brandon Rembert is one of those future GMs currently out on the grind. Brandon is a development scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. At 25, he has taken control of his career and is working to put himself off the road and in an MLB Front office someday. On this episode of the Black Baseball Mixtape Podcast, I (Cheats) chop it up with Brandon and discuss his path to the Pirates organization, his love for the game, and his playing career. I think you will find Brandon insightful, knowledgeable, and entertaining. I'm sure you will enjoy this conversation. For this episode, we have on the Executive Director of Autism Tennessee, Jessica Moore, and Mark Rembert, who leads Spectrum Dads. Autism Tennessee Spectrum Dads is a welcoming space for father figures of Autistic children, youth, and adults to find community and belonging. In this episode, Mark discusses the group and also talks about his son Eric. Jessica tells about her two sons and how Autism Tennessee helps parents navigate an autism diagnosis to figure out resources and next steps. April is Autism Acceptance Month in Tennessee. To answer those questions, Richard Howitt welcomes Tracey Rembert, Associate Director, Climate Change and Environmental Justice at the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), and Alexandra Wright-Gladstein, founder and CEO of the climate-friendly investment fund Sphere. Together they discuss: If the SEC's rules are a major advance in business sustainability or too big compromise What are the positives of the new rules and potential challenges ahead Whether companies are going to get on and start preparing to do this now? An interview with Erin Kelly, Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University, and co-author of "Chasing Me To My Grave: An Artist's Memoir Of The Jim Crow South." The late Winfred Rembert was a New Haven-based artist and master storyteller, in both words and images He documented his life with art, carving scenes from rural Georgia into leather. His sense of design, use of color, and ability to visually tell the story of the often-brutal American black experience have earned him comparisons with such renowned artists as Jacob Lawrence. His autobiography features images of fishing in the culvert or dancing in the juke joint — but also of picking cotton, escaping a lynching, and working on the chain gang. He didn't start his path as an artist until he was 52, but art transformed his life and brought his life story to national attention.

This month we've been hearing testimonies from people in the entertainment business. Today we have Christian rap artist Kei-Landa Rembert. Kei-Landa grew up in the church and as a young child, she started turning nursey rhymes into rap songs. 10 years ago, God spoke to her about a yearly 40-day time of prayer and fasting for the Hip-Hop recording industry. Through that simple act of obedience, God has opened the doors for her to pray with many well-known recording artists! Today, she continues to write and produce music that glorifies God.
