This episode of Ambition Today is supported by: Finta, The Capital Copilot In October 2024, Finta hosted a panel for LA Tech Week called “How I Raised - Seed, Series A, Series B.” Featuring founders exploringthe unique challenges and insights of securing capital at different stages of their company. Our incredible panel for this event consists of: David Kervin Proteus Space ($8M Raised) - Revolutionizing satellite design with AI-driven platforms, aiming to reduce the time and cost of deploying satellites through automation and cutting-edge technology. Gaurav Bhattacharya Jeeva ($16M Raised) - Harness AI-driven customer intelligence, helping companies optimize their customer experience and reduce churn through actionable insights. Scott Wayman Kangarootime ($37.5M Raised) - A leading innovator in the childcare management software industry, Kangarootime has risen to the forefront, providing vital solutions for daycares and preschools. Key Fundraising Insights From This Episode: 1. Getting Investor Buy-In: Confidence Over Convincing Founders emphasized that successful fundraising begins with confidence, not just pitching facts. Believing in your mission sets the tone for investor meetings, as confidence drives a stronger, more resonant narrative. 2. Parallel vs. Sequential Fundraising Processes Gaurav shared that sequential meetings can be a trap, leading to prolonged efforts. Instead, structuring outreach as a concentrated, parallel push creates urgency and FOMO among investors, leading to quicker commitments. 3. Navigating Round Dynamics with Clear Milestones For each funding stage, specific milestones are critical. Scott noted that Series B investors expect well-established product-market fit and sales efficiency, while Series A focuses on validating product intent. Seed rounds, by contrast, require strong founder conviction and a scrappy dedication. 4. Leveraging Warm Intros for Better Outcomes Cold outreach has a low conversion rate. David and Gaurav underscored the importance of warm intros, building relationships long before “the ask,” as connections formed early often convert to funding opportunities. 5. Pitfalls in Equity Structure and Term Negotiations Gaurav and Scott highlighted the importance of a clean cap table and an informed approach to term sheets, particularly for liquidation preferences and convertible notes, which can heavily dilute founder control if unchecked. 6. Evolving Pitch Focus: Metrics Over Mission at Later Stages With each funding stage, the pitch shifts. For Series B, Scott mentioned that metrics and market dynamics become critical to justify high-value funding rounds, moving beyond storytelling toward quantifiable business growth. 7. The Role of Timing and Market Trends Market trends, such as the rise of AI, can be powerful, but founders caution to present technology realistically. David shared that aligning milestones with tech waves and managing investor perceptions is essential for positioning within emerging sectors. 8. Finding the Balance in Deal Terms and Equity Retention David noted that while SAFE notes and convertible debt can expedite early funding, they can also lead to significant dilution. Founders should prioritize understanding term sheets and use cap table modeling tools like Carta to project long-term equity impacts. 9. Building and Utilizing Investor Relationships Over Time David emphasized the value of maintaining relationships with VCs who may not invest immediately. Regular updates and casual interactions allow investors to track your progress and feel more comfortable when it's time to commit. 10. Strategic Use of Milestones to Drive Up Valuation Meeting critical operational or revenue milestones before the next round can significantly enhance valuation and interest. Scott's journey highlighted that proving product-market fit and high sales efficiency before Series B can allow for strong, valuation-focused negotiations. 11. Positioning Within Tech Waves for Strategic Advantage Each wave of technology (e.g., AI, blockchain) offers a unique angle for storytelling and market positioning. Scott and Gaurav recommended founders lean into tech trends authentically, showcasing how the wave aligns with their product rather than simply following hype. Hosting this event was a blast! David adds that while AI is important, it is crucial to solve fundamental business problems first. VC Investor Relations with LP's Rachel discusses the current trends in VC strategies and the importance of understanding the dynamics between VC funds and their LPs. She highlights the necessity for founders to be aware of the financial health and commitments of the VCs they are pitching to. Current Market Trends and Company Valuations The discussion centers around the importance of always being prepared to fundraise and understanding market dynamics. David stresses the situational nature of fundraising, advising founders to be ready to adapt to market conditions. Important Fundraising Legal Considerations Jack Sousa recommends involving a lawyer early in the fundraising process to navigate complex legal terms and agreements. He mentions the return of redemption provisions and full ratchet anti-dilution clauses as trends to watch. How Can Founder's Stand Out To Investors To stand out, David suggests focusing on demonstrating real customer traction and needs. Rachel emphasizes the importance of clear, concise pitch decks and consistent communication with investors. Strong Investor Communication Balancing warm introductions and cold outreach is crucial. David recommends building relationships with investors before needing to raise funds, while Rachel highlights the importance of thoughtful signaling and avoiding desperate outreach. Practical Tips for Founders Jack Sousa and Rachel discuss essential legal terms, noting the increasing prevalence of liquidation preferences and full ratchet anti-dilution clauses. They advise founders to keep their cap tables clean and to be aware of the long-term implications of their fundraising choices. Industry-Specific Insights Raising funds for deep tech ventures involves unique challenges compared to traditional SaaS startups. Rachel and David emphasize the importance of understanding sector-specific milestones and investor expectations. The End of Software...? The panel debates whether the software market has matured. Rachel argues that while the market is evolving, there is still significant upside potential for innovative software solutions, particularly those integrating AI. Passive income is the holy grail of online business... but is any income TRULY passive? Sort of. Put the work in upfront and passive income can follow. Of course, as a product-based business, you still need to fulfill the orders, but it would be cool to have that revenue rolling in without much marketing, wouldn't it? Omar Zenhom learned all of his best sales tricks from his dad, a car salesman. “He really wasn't somebody that tried to sell anybody anything. He would try to ask a lot of questions. … He would ask things like, ‘What don't you like about your car right now?' And he would highlight the features of the car that he was selling to them that would fit their needs,” he explains.Omar applies the same logic to how he teaches entrepreneurs to sell, both in his podcast, The $100 MBA, and his business, Webinar Ninja. It's never about a gimmicky hard sell or a flashy demo. Instead, selling is about removing barriers and making decisions easy for customers. Tune in to this episode of the Constant Contact podcast, Be a Marketer. Host Dave Charest, Director of Small Business Success at Constant Contact, and Omar discuss prioritizing yourself as an entrepreneur, conventional but effective marketing methods, and how the soft sell is often the best tactic.

The Meaning Movement: Helping You Find Your Calling, Create Your Life's Work, and Make Career Change
Omar Zenhom is a teacher at heart. I never really understood that until we had this interview. Omar has a daily business podcast. It's one of the top business podcasts. It's called the $100 MBA. It 's great. I've listened to it several times. I was always just so amazed at just the lift of having a daily podcast and doing it for years and years. He's been podcasting longer than I have. I've been podcasting for seven or eight years, and I just can't imagine podcasting every single day. But once we dug into some of Omar's story, we got into his background as a teacher, the work of preparing lessons every day for teaching, and how that trained him. It got him into the space where he could, without as much of a heavy lift, make podcasts every day. His experience put all of his work into context for me. I had a great conversation with Omar. We talked about everything from his childhood, growing up as a child of immigrants to the many entrepreneur pursuits that he has had along the way. It's just a really fun conversation. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Let's get into it. In this episode you'll learn: -How Omar ended up becoming a teacher -The reason why Omar left his successful career -How Omar got started in entrepreneurship -How accepting that things in life are going to be hard sometimes -How your perspective can influence your career path. -Building resilience through hard work and hardships -Omar's approach to being an entrepreneur -Omar's sense of fulfillment in his chosen pursuits -Burning out, fulfillment, and the importance of rest and breaks -How going through hardships is beneficial for improvement -Omar's advice to people who are currently looking for their niche -How Failure is part of the process -Understanding where you add value -Synergizing interests and expertise -Gaining momentum through success -Omar's advice for people stepping into entrepreneurship -How Omar took the leap to be a full-time entrepreneur -The value of reading -How your environment affects you a& Omar's chose to move to New York -Omar's early experience as a full-time entrepreneur -Omar's realizations when he took up MBA -How the $100 MBA started -How Omar's multiple enterprises are interconnected (podcast, software, online courses, webinars, keynote speaking ) -How Omar started WebinarNinja -Omar's thoughts about software -Omar's ideas that are contrary to popular belief Show notes: https://themeaningmovement.com/omarzenhom

Entrepreneurship is one of the most difficult things to do well, but it's also incredibly rewarding. You'll want this episode for all your entrepreneurial needs because in today's talk with Omar Zenhom he shares some valuable lessons that any entrepreneur should take note of as they start their own business or grow an existing company! ABOUT OMAR Omar Zenhom is the co-founder and CEO of WebinarNinja. He founded the company in 2014, and it has since grown to become one of the world's leading webinar platforms. Over a million people have attended a webinar on WebinarNinja, and it has been named as one of the fastest growing SaaS companies in 2018. In addition to his work at WebinarNinja, Omar is also the host of The $100 MBA Show. With over 1,300 episodes this iTunes Best of 2014 podcast has been downloaded over 90 million times and ranked as a top business podcast in over 30 countries. Here's a summary of the great stuff that we cover in this show: In the modern digital world, it's easy to think that you need to copy someone else to be successful. The danger with that is you can end up being just another guy and not really making any difference. Running a business is hard work. So, when you are building one, find something that you really enjoy and run it in a way that works and makes sense for you. When it comes to content marketing, there's so much opportunity. Teaching is the new selling and there are so many ways to turn your eCommerce store into more than just a store. It's a community, it's a movement. People are just excited about what you have because you're not just showing them the product, you're showing them how it fits in in their life. Blogging is still one of the most powerful ways to get traffic to your website because of the power of SEO. Even though we're in the digital age with video and audio, text SEO is still the most powerful way for people to find you. People don't just go from “I don't know anything about your product” to “I want to buy it now” instantly. There is a process of education, there's a process of them envisioning themselves and their lives with your product. As you rise through the ranks of leadership, experiencing setbacks and failure is inevitable. But as many successful leaders will share, what we often judge as failures are merely opportunities to grow and learn. How you respond to the tests you face will make the difference in your ability to lead successfully. Instead of looking to place blame, you have to look for your opportunity to gain insight from every experience. Take the responsibility of approaching the situation with neutrality. What actions caused you to get to this point? What angles could it have been approached from differently? By stepping back and collecting the facts without emotion, the shortcomings become evident, and you can then plan out how to make more strategic action. In the latest episode of The Enlightened Executive podcast, co-founder and CEO of WebinarNinja, and host of the $100 MBA show, Omar Zenhom, shares valuable lessons on what we can learn from undesirable outcomes to become better entrepreneurs.

I talk to Omar Zenhom about what it's like to run a SaaS company and all the stress and frustrations that go along with it. This forces me to ask, is it worth starting a software business?
"One of the good signs that you're on the right path is that when you're doing it, it's not so hard. It's something that feels natural and easy or something that you're comfortable with. You're not moving the boulder uphill for miles."–Omar Zenhom, Co-Founder and CEO of WebinarNinjaJoin Ben Schneider and Omar Zenhom as they discuss how Omar Zenhom started his SaaS business, the challenges in creating WebinarNinja, the top two key factors to create a successful SaaS business, and how he, as a content creator, transitioned successfully to the SaaS industry.EPISODE NOTES:What are the key factors that make a SaaS product successful? With over a million webinar attendees to date, WebinarNinja has grown rapidly since its founding in 2014; Academy Ocean named WebinarNinja one of the fastest growing SaaS companies of 2018. The $100 MBA Show consistently ranks among the best business podcasts in over 30 countries, with over 100 million downloads over 1,400 + episodes. An educator at the secondary and university level for over a dozen years, Omar decided to apply his natural passion for teaching and learning to the business world. Between teaching classes, he studied and worked to finally make the transition to full-time entrepreneurship. From brick-and-mortar to e-commerce to SaaS, Omar learned the art of entrepreneurship from real-world successes and failures, ultimately dropping out of Wharton's MBA program to build and manage his own companies. Now, through the $100 MBA Show and WebinarNinja, Omar has made it his business to help others learn, teach, and grow as entrepreneurs. Here are the highlights of this episode: 2:43 Omar's ideal Client: My ideal client is somebody who's looking to use education to present and sell their product. They believe in teaching is the new selling. 2:59Problem Omar's helps solve: The problem we solve is, we simplify, we make it easy for you to create webinars. Webinars can be daunting. So, our mission is to make sure it's easy to create webinars. 3:34Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Omar: Overwhelmed, there's so many things to do, there's so many moving parts. There's a feeling of don't know where to start. There's a feeling of, if I do it, it may not look professional, what if I choke.. all that kind of stuffs. That nervous angst of feeling, of getting on stage, the kind of butterflies or stage fright, all those things apply. 4:13What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Omar and his solution: One of the things I found is, they have analysis paralysis. They don't start because they find the technology daunting, and this is what we're trying to solve, we're trying to make it simple and easy. They feel like there's a lot of moving parts so therefore they feel like let me just do all these things first before I actually do my first webinar. One of the biggest mistakes is not understanding that it's not actually the technology that matters, what matters is the content of your delivery. 5:06Omar's Valuable Free Action (VFA): The first step that anybody can take to start running effective webinars is crafting a great topic for their webinar, which is the title for the webinar. The title of your webinar really has a big effect on your success, your attendance, your registration number and all those kinds of stuffs. Really, we need to focus on what your audience is struggling with the most, and how you can you solve it in a workshop. If you could really nail that, there's multiple ways you can do that. We speak about that in our community, whether it's asking people on social media, whether it's a survey or things like that. But the point here is that it's a really good step because once you nail that, everything kind of falls into place. You know exactly what to do, you know exactly the size you're going to put together, you know what your result should be. 6:24Omar's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): One of the best things I can give anybody is our 7-part video course called "your webinar blueprint course", it's 7 videos that will show you step-by-step on how to create y...

More About This Show: Omar Zenhom is a teacher through and through. He worked in the education field as an ESL teacher (English as a Second Language) and he spent 10 years living and teaching ESL in Dubai. But throughout his teaching career he was always interested in entrepreneurship. If he wasn't reading about it, he was hustling on the side to see what business would work and testing his mettle to see if he had what it takes to be a full-time entrepreneur. It wasn't until fairly recently that he made the leap into entrepreneurship with The $100 MBA company. The brand began back in 2013 and his podcast was launched in the fall of 2014. Today it stands as one of the top-rated podcasts in all of iTunes. On this episode we talk about his "late entry" into podcasting, how his lack of business experience became an asset and why it's never too late to go after what you want in business or in life in general. When Omar began his podcast he knew he had to differentiate himself from the rest of the crowd. But instead of reinventing himself he leaned on his background and his knowledge: teaching. He and his fiance Nicole spent two months brainstorming, planning and organizing before the launch of The $100 MBA. One of the most important he makes is they planned for the long haul. They weren't looking at this as a short-term gain but a long-term legacy and that's what made them so successful. Another important aspect of their success is their strategy for connecting and providing for their audience. If you're wondering what to give your audience Omar has some questions you can ask yourself such as "How can I delight people?" "If this were my mom (or other loved one) how would I be giving to him or her?" And then create your content and your marketing strategy based on that. As Omar points out no one cares about what you know (or are providing) until they know how much you care. When you come from that mindset - whether it's in business or other relationships - you have a greater chance of creating real, genuine relationships that benefit everyone. We also discuss how to set your own level of achievement and how to know what to focus on first when starting a business. Big thanks to Omar for sharing his experiences on those topics and thanks to you for being here. We'll see you next time on The Art of Charm! THANKS OMAR ZENHOM!
