Today we delve deeply into themes of transformation, authentic experiences, and living in the moment. We critique the modern church's tendency to overlook the present in favor of a future focus, emphasizing the importance of being there for others, especially in times of need. By reflecting on personal anecdotes and broader social issues, we strive to underscore the transformative power of seeing and connecting with others in meaningful ways. 00:00 Introduction and Frosted Tips 00:20 God Talk Friday Begins 01:02 Reflection on Authentic Transformation 03:30 Discussion on Conservative Christianity 04:39 Personal Reflections and Transformative Moments 07:27 The Importance of Living in the Moment 11:22 Larry's Broadcasting Journey 12:44 Conclusion and Gratitude   Authentic Experience and Transformation smarticlepodcast@gmail.com #authentictranformation #spiritualtransformation #contemplativeprayer #prayer #cac #fatherrohr #richardrohr #centerforactionandcontemplation #spiritual #faith #godtok #faithtalk #realfaith #smarticlepodcast #podcast #smarticle @dailymeditations @Smarticleshow @BDDoble @larryolson threads.net/@smarticleshow @brand.dobes The Center for Action and Contemplation  The Smarticle Podcast

Welcome to episode 64 of The Way Out Is In: The Zen Art of Living, a podcast series mirroring Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh's deep teachings of Buddhist philosophy: a simple yet profound methodology for dealing with our suffering, and for creating more happiness and joy in our lives. This episode is the first to be recorded live in front of an audience, in the Still Water Meditation Hall of Plum Village, France, during a retreat, rather than in Thay's Sitting Still hut. Together, Zen Buddhist monk Brother Phap Huu and leadership coach/journalist Jo Confino explore the Buddhist concept of ripening, or the Fourth Dharma Seal of Plum Village: the understanding that the care, love, attention, and commitment we put into what’s important in life take time to ripen, and that we shouldn’t expect instant results. Brother Phap Huu starts off by introducing the first Three Dharma Seals and why Thay created them, before digging deeper into the Fourth Dharma Seal, the main theme of this episode; the process of ripening; the life journey of the practice; and much more. Jo brings examples of lifelong journeys of forgiveness, and explores trust versus control, dharma rain, and more. And: how can we all apply this practice of ripening to our own lives? The episode ends with a short meditation guided by Brother Phap Huu. And the present moment embraces the past as well as creating the future.” “If we don’t have darkness, the light won’t have a chance to appear.” “It is impossible to physically go back to the past, but I can bring the past into the here and now, and heal it by being right here, right now. By this present moment, I am creating a new path.” “The world is created by our mind.” “The insight of ripening allows us to understand that the path of practice is a wonderful journey, and that it takes time and space for things to mature, for things to transform, for things to heal. When we hear about ripening, we may think of a tree – say, an orange tree. It takes time for the seed to be planted. For the roots to deepen. For the tree and its leaves and flowers to grow. Even when the fruit appears, it takes time to ripen. And so our practice can be viewed as a journey of ripening.” “Each thing we say, each thing we think, each thing we do, ripples out. I love that image of a pond or a big lake where you throw in a stone and see the ripples spread in every direction. And even when you can’t really see them, they’re still there in a subtle way, stretching out further and further.” “The learning journey is endless.” “If you know how to suffer, you suffer less.” “If we take away the need for the outcome and are instead just present for people, then life can show up fully.” “The Buddha said that the dharma is like fine-tuning an instrument for our path. If we are too intense, too rigid, too extreme, we won’t go the distance. The string might snap because there’s too much effort, there’s too much intensity. But if we’re too lazy, and are just daydreaming about what can be, then the string is loose and doesn’t play the the sound that’s needed.”

Everyday is an opportunity to see God work in your life. But the first thing we must do is to abide in Him and His Word. He is always speaking and active. We must slow down and listen for what He is doing among us. Then we will begin to see the fruit he is producing in our life. You are the most able person to reach those nearest to you. But first, focus on abiding. John 15:4-5 ESV 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Following Jesus and enjoying life are not opposite ends of the spectrum. Sometimes in life we find ourselves down or hurt when our expectations aren't met or things don't go the way we thought they would. On the other hand, things can go well and we may still be faced with negative emotions. Navigating the blues looks different for everyone, but guest Katara Patton shares some practical advice and tips from her own experiences with hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy to help us navigate our mental health on this episode of God Hears Her.   About Our Guest: Katara Washington Patton is a Senior Editor at Our Daily Bread Publishing, and the author of eight books, including 5-Minute Devotional Book for Women and Navigating the Blues: Where to Turn When Worry, Anxiety, or Depression Steal Your Hope. Patton is a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana. She and her husband, Derrick, reside on the South Side of Chicago. They have one daughter, Kayla. She is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. As much as possible, she tries to enjoy a Zumba class and a competitive game of Scrabble to keep her life balanced.   Notes and Quotes:  “I expected life to be high. . . I had a family who loved me. . . Life is not always high.” —Katara Patton “The only energy I had was to go to work and go to bed. One day I made a deal with myself that if I go to bed today, then I have to call a therapist tomorrow.” —Katara Patton “When you describe the numbness, a lot of people resonate with that.” —Katara Patton “We can find it hard to get out of bed even when life is good!” —Elisa Morgan “You have to take it one moment at a time. You don't have to scale the whole mountain at once, just take it one step at a time.” —Katara Patton “Most of the time your friends and people do want to help, they just don't know how.” —Katara Patton “Look at Elijah's story! He showed a lot of signs of depression and God gave him very practical advice. Take a rest, have some food!” —Katara Patton “You need to allow yourself to feel your emotions and let others help you.” —Katara Patton   Verses:  1 Kings 19 Elijah's story Luke 5:17–39  John 11:35 “Jesus wept.”   Links:    Navigating the Blues by Katara Patton: https://www.amazon.com/Navigating-Blues-Anxiety-Depression-Steals/dp/1640702075 https://www.mentalhealth.gov/ Call or text 988 for mental health aid in the case of an emergency God Hears Her website: https://www.godhearsher.org/ God Hears Her newsletter sign-up: https://www.godhearsher.org/signup Subscribe on iTunes! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast Elisa's Instagram: elisa morgan author Eryn's Instagram: eryneddy

Integrative therapy & mindset coaching with Serge PrengelIdeas not coupled with action never become bigger than the brain cells they occupied. The image that comes to mind is that of a seed. It has the potential to become a tree, if only it is planted. It's not the seed alone that makes the tree. It is the interaction of the seed with the nutrients in the soil, water and sunlight. You cannot have the tree without the seed. But you cannot have it without the soil, sunlight and water, either. And, of course, the time for all this to happen. So, ideas are like seeds.
