Jared Hinton M.A, M.A.T, LCMHC is a psychotherapist in private practice in Asheville, NC. Jared is a husband, father, and a person in long-term recovery. His work focuses on helping individuals and couples heal from patterns of ancestral, familial, and relational trauma. Jared is a graduate of Naropa University's Contemplative and Buddhist Psychology program and a student of the Appalachian Gestalt Institute in Asheville. In this episode, Jared and I discuss the relationship dynamics of codependency, differentiation and autonomy in relationships. They're how people interact emotionally in a relationship, not just fixed traits or parts. Healthy relationships usually balance all three: less codependency, more differentiation and solid autonomy so nobody feels trapped or smothered. Connect with Jared Hinton: Jaredhinton.org Email:jaredhintonpsychotherapy@gmail.com Online Men's Work Program Fall 2025 Jared will be launching a 9-week Men's Work course later this year. The program will examine internalized conditioning around masculinity, question outdated roles and expectations, come to terms with new roles and functions as a man in today's world, and reconnect with parts of self that have been suppressed or forgotten.  The course will explore emotional awareness, male development, archetypes and initiation, honesty, vulnerability, grief and purpose. The aim is to anchor in sense of connection, community, and know-how that can create lasting change and build a consistent path forward through daily rituals and practices. Let's Talk About It! Today we have on Karrie Myers, aka SelfKarrie, a deeply intuitive and talented astrologer Giana happened to meet at a tea house in Marin. We dive into a mind-bending conversation about the current cosmic climate, and Karrie breaks down the incoming 7-year Uranus in Gemini transit (starting July 7!)—what it means for how we learn, communicate, and move through the world. She explains why this next chapter may feel more fluid than past transits—Uranus and Gemini are both air signs—but also why it's about to radically disrupt how we speak, travel, and even think. From telepathy to AI to neurodivergence as expanded awareness, Karrie opens up a portal into what's next.We also touch on war in the Age of Aquarius: less about weapons, more about who controls the information. Cyber-activism, hacking, and the internet as our collective consciousness? Yep, we go there.Plus, Karrie gives Giana and Bradshaw a joint business partner reading, and things get real. She shares why their playful, purpose-driven partnership is exactly what this moment calls for—and how staying childlike, creative, and bold with their voices is key to expansion. There's talk of shadow work and podcasting as soul work.Come for the astrology, stay for the insight into how current transits may be shaping our communication, creativity, and collective direction.

In this wide ranging discussion we cover Dharmavidya's spiritual biography and his work with teachers such as Kennett Roshi and Thích Nhat Hanh, the Pure Land Buddhist tradition, other-powered practice versus self-powered practice, Dogen's Genjo Koan, and much more. David Brazier, PhD, born 1947, is a Buddhist teacher and an authority on Buddhist psychology. Revelations that came to him in childhood set him on a unique course and his long career has included much travel, study, and spiritual practice leading to teaching, writing books, founding a Buddhist religious order, being a psychotherapist, doing social work and community development, aiding refugees, protesting war and the arms trade, promoting inter-religious harmony, and many other turns. His often unconventional ideas are products of this experience and of learning at the feet of some of the leading spiritual masters of our times. "Buddhism is not a belief system. It's not about accepting certain tenets or believing a set of claims or principles. In fact, it's quite the opposite. It's about examining the world clearly and carefully, about testing everything and every idea. Buddhism is about seeing. It's about knowing rather than believing or hoping or wishing. It's also about not being afraid to examine anything and everything, including our own personal agendas . . . The message is always to examine and see for yourself. When you see for yourself what is true—and that's really the only way that you can genuinely know anything—then embrace it. Until then, just suspend judgment and criticism. The point of Buddhism is to just see. That's all . . . An ordinary person is simply one who is not awake in the moment; a buddha is a person who is. That's all." —Steve Hagan, author of Buddhism Plain and Simple: The practice of Being Aware, Right Now, Every Day To be fully human and see the humanity in all others. To have compassion for all sentient beings, understanding that they too experience all of the senses and are capable of emotions. This way of walking through life, engaging with it subtly, yet powerfully, infusing both our daily life and others, with the ability to be and express our full and most capable selves, is to live with awareness. To see and engage fully without expectation or harm. For example, one of the ladybird's gifts is their appetite for many pests in the garden, effectively being a natural pest deterrent; the talent of bees is to disperse pollen which plays a crucial role in the entire food production chain; and as we consider any human on earth throughout history who gives of their talents that further contributed positively to the world. These brave and determined souls, without each one, the world would not be as we know it today. When we celebrate the humanity of one another, we set each other free to discover the treasures we each uniquely have within us. Then it is each individual's job, at times daunting, but most primarily exhilarating, to share with the world what we have realized is our dharma - what we can uniquely share with the world that also energizes us while we engage in the giving. There is much confusion about what Buddhism is, and unlike what many Google searches will retrieve when we try to figure it out, it is not a religion. The Dalai Lama himself states it most directly, “Buddhist teachings are not a religion, they are a science of the mind.” In other words, it is an approach to understanding our own mind, NOT being told what to think nor HOW to live concretely. Rather the concepts of Mindfulness, Awareness, Compassion, Appreciation and Courage are many of the fundamental skills, which are also the core concepts of cultivating a life of contentment, a simply luxurious life. Tune in to discover more about how Buddhist psychology cultivates an everyday life of contentment.   Find the Show Notes on The Simply Luxurious Life blog - https://thesimplyluxuriouslife.com/podcast403

— We are not here on Earth to be alone, but to be part of a living community, a web of life in which all is sacred. Ceremonies and rituals are powerful tools that promote and sustain healthy changes as we move though life's passages. They help you release old patterns, call in healing energies, bring empowerment to new intentions, honor rites of passage, and connect you with a deeper sense of support and guidance from Spirit in your life. Sandra work with you to create ceremonies that best support your intentions, and to honor your life transitions in a meaningful and sacred way. As a non-denominational ordained Minister of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream and Shamanic Practitioner, Sandra works with clients from diverse cultural traditions, spiritual beliefs and practices. Valeria interviews Sandra Lloyd — She is Urban Shaman, Shamanic Hypnotherapist, Spiritual Midwife, Modern Alchemist, Ceremonialist, Badass Cosmic Mother, Shamanic Healer and Speaker. As a Certified Hypnotherapist through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream in Berkeley, CA, Sandra has received expert training in Depth Hypnosis, Shamanism, Buddhist Psychology, Energy Medicine and Hypnotherapy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. Sandra's path of healing service has been informed by two separate diagnoses and recoveries from cancer, as well her work since 2004 providing hands-on, unconditional support and advocacy for pregnant and birthing women navigating the complexities of the initiation of birth and passage into motherhood. Energetically "holding space" in the birth environment, and grounded in her connection with spiritual allies, she has been privileged to assist the safe and empowering passages of hundreds of new lives into this world.  In the summer of 2014, Sandra journeyed to Peru to join an expedition with Alberto Villoldo and Marcela Lobos of the Four Winds Society. Taking part in daily teachings and ceremonies, led by renowned medicine men and women, deepened her understanding of the ancient teachings of shamanism and of the Q'ero. She received the Munay-Ki rites of initiation directly from these master shamans and lineage keepers in ancient places of power in Peru's Sacred Valley. Since 2016, Sandra has continued her training in shamanic practices designed for spiritual evolution and healing with don Oscar Miro-Quesada, respected kamasqa curandero and altomisayoq adept from Peru, founder of the Heart of the Healer Mystery School and originator of the Pachekuti Mesa Tradition of cross-cultural shamanism. As a Shamanic Practitioner, Depth Hypnosis therapist, Ceremonialist and Birthkeeper, Sandra Lloyd/Urban Shaman brings ancient healing practices to guide her clients in addressing challenges that arise in relation to fertility, reproductive choice, pregnancy, miscarriage, labor, birth and the powerful initiation of Motherhood. She offers contemporary applications of shamanic practices (altered states/shamanic journey, regression, soul retrieval, power retrieval, removal of energetic interference) for releasing old patterns, uncovering and healing core woundings/trauma, and (re)connecting to one's authentic self. Fast forward to today, and Noel is blending Buddhism, psychology, meditation, and trauma-informed Western psychology to support his clients. He's also the founder and director of the Boston Center for Contemplative Practice.Noel's approach to wholeness, both in life and in his work, really resonates with me, and I was excited to explore how these teachings can deepen our understanding of ourselves. In this episode, we dive into the spiritual aspects of parenting, how Buddhism can inform our approach to life and leadership, and Noel shares a transformational practice that really aligns with shadow work.Noel discusses his work, emphasizing the importance of unconditional love and the concept of Buddha nature. He shares a practice called Guru Yoga, which involves visualizing an unconditional loving being to reconnect with one's inherent wholeness. The conversation highlights the integration of spirituality and therapy, the challenges of parenting, and the ongoing practice of self-awareness and compassion.
