Samantha Moyo gave me a big warm hug at TEDxEastend in 2013, she had just recently sold Morning Gloryville, a sober raving movement that had grown massively over the previous year or so. I was delighted to sit down with her for this interview ten years on to discuss her life pre and post-Morning Gloryville. She was born and grew up in Zimbabwe and moved to Derbyshire in the UK at 15 years old to a bit of a culture shock. She talks about her glorious Uni days in Brighton as the perfect place to come out and experience being a young free gay person, attending parties, then organising parties and experimenting with her sexuality, drugs and alcohol. She moved to London and hit it hard and it all became a bit too much after a while which ultimately led to Morning Gloryville, where young professionals would come to Sam's early morning sober raves before work. It became incredibly popular and spread to cities all over the world. These days she has found her spiritual side and has trained as an interfaith minister and believes that each of us stepping into our spiritual leadership will help solve many of the world's problems. While changing our drinking can be challenging, it's important not to lose the things that bring us joy as a counterbalance. Giving up alcohol doesn't have to mean giving up all the other things that booze may have played a part in, and that includes socialising, dancing, and feeling free. Sure, partying our socks off without alcohol to turn the self-conscious switch off can seem daunting. But what if this was a drink-and-drug-free party? Our podcast guests this week have all changed their drinking and embraced sober clubbing. More than that, these sober party fans have been busy arranging events across the UK so that those of us who love to dance can still come together safely to do what we love: rave! Our podcast guests include Roxy Deniz Ozalp from the original morning wellness rave, Morning Gloryville, Neil Hudson-Basing from a brand new sober clubbing experience, The House of Happiness, and Ben Riley from DryWave whose Sundown session with legendary N-Trance takes place this Bank Holiday weekend, 27 August. My guest this week is Samantha Moyo – an activist, artist, and creative expansion coach.I asked her on the podcast, because she is also the original founder of Morning Gloryville, which was the first sober morning dance party when it launched back in 2013. Sam shares the origin story of what became a movement that helped millions of peopleSince she moved on from that role, she been pretty involved in the activism scene and has also worked with all sorts of organizations, teams, and individuals to help bring the humanity and the creativity back into what they do.For me Sam is the definition of a “free spirit” – and our conversation goes to some pretty wild and out there places. I encourage you to keep an open mind and heart while listening. I should also include a trigger warning – as about half-way through our interview, Sam shares why she decided to start drinking again after her years as a figurehead for sobriety. There's also plenty of sex and general spiritual rock ‘n' roll throughout, so it's probably not one to listen to with your grandma. In the episode we discuss:-Her role in the origin story of the original sober dance party, Morning Gloryville.-Searching for ways to find pleasure, joy, and self-expression without substances.-Bringing the “erotic” – our joyful life force energy – to everything we do.-Her definition of “unapologetic living” – and how she came to focus on this in her life and work.-How cancel culture has prevented people from feeling safe to express themselves.-Seeing herself as a “soul” first and foremost - before any of the intersecting identities she embodies.-Creating her own spiritual practices for moving stuck energy through her body – including “tree humping” (!!) and howling-Getting back to the primal self and living beyond societal conditioning.-Having the courage to live as ourselves - without judgement.-Why it's essential to resource yourself with community, nature, love, and other healing practices before you quit drinking.-Having a glass of wine during lockdown – and her attitudes to drinking now.-Why she thinks activism is dead – and creativity is the new activism.Discover more about Sam and her work HERE and find all the details for her upcoming Creative Expansion Program HERE. How do you get sober when AA isn’t working for you? Well, if you’re Samantha Moyo, you found the global sober raving movement, Morning Gloryville. A business designed to get people to wake up at 6am and go dancing, sober, to famous DJs such as Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx and Carl Cox. She sold just 26 tickets to their first event, but such is Sam’s desire to challenge the status quo, she grew the business to a community of 200,000 within 18 months, across 23 cities. Morning Gloryville was born from her life as Captain Hello Titties, an unsustainable, creative, money-making idea that involved putting on parties on the River Thames. But it wasn’t all plain sailing. “When you have co-founders, and things aren't well, one of the things that helped us was getting a mediator. We kept doing some practices together just to keep the energy flowing, so that we wouldn't affect the business.”Not only did she part ways with her co-founder, they had too little money for the growing company, and she wasn’t being kind to herself or those at work. “I wanted to bring conscious clubbing to the world stage and spread love, peace and joy through dancing. And after five years of doing that, and waking up at 6am so many times, I think my spirit was done.”Sam is no longer with Morning Gloryville, today she’s a wellness entrepreneur, with a difference. Now, known as Mystic Moyo, Sam has undergone her own transformation, from burnt out business leader, to activist, to mystic secret leader. So what can you do to be a more conscious leader inside your organisation? What can you do to keep on the path of curiousness? How can you take a more spiritual path, a more spiritual journey with your leadership? To find out, don’t miss this incredibly insightful episode. We chat about:Captain Hello TittiesBuilding Morning GloryvilleThe notion of kindnessRacial and economic injustice is real in businessThe birth of Mystic MoyoLinks:www.msysticmoyo.comwww.samanthamoyo.co.ukWant to receive our podcast on a weekly basis? And if you're looking for a message of hope and a possible vision for what our new reality could be after all this shakes out, you're going to love this one. In order to rebuild true community, it takes each and every one of us to play our part together. My special guest today is Neil Greenwood and he's simplifying how to rebuild community, despite social distancing. We tackle all aspects of it, including: Kicking the conversation off with a 7 minute ground meditation, in order to tap into a state of calm What a Morning Gloryville in-person event was like, including their sober raves, all-day workshops and retreats, prior to COVID-19  And now in this day in age of quarantine and social distancing, what the team at Morning Gloryville see as the vision moving forward in helping people heal and rebuild this community. Neil shares his ideas on how to build love and connection without physical contact with others in the short term future. For all the event planners listening, take note! Neil shares his insider thoughts on what it was like to turn their 1000 person rave into an online experience. What worked and what were the lessons learned as an event producer and experience creator? And finally, Neil shares his take on what's happening (big picture!) energetically in the world right now. How this is a HUGE wake-up call for humankind… and what role permaculture plays in all of this! Energy, creativity, music and motivation, and how these themes all tie together. Jono Grant is one of the world's top DJs. He and I had a caffeine-fuelled chat on music and creativity, and how he gets into the creative vibe. Above and Beyond are obviously a massive worldwide success and he also talks about the biggest gig he ever played - in front of 1 million people in Rio. He's also responsible for the music that you hear at the start of the podcast. We recorded this as part of a special Spotify series on music. If you'd like to listen to the full series head over to Zestology on Spotify. One more thing - listen out for the end of the podcast where I'm recording at the famous Morning Gloryville party.

Shannon gets under the covers with Made in Chelsea's Jamie Laing, who solves your Christmas dilemmas like a pro Agony Uncle! Plus, we head down to Morning Gloryville at Somerset House’s ice rink to ask people: what makes you feel festive? Thanks for listening guys, have a fabulous Christmas and see you in 2017!
