From the mind of Kelly & Co. host Kelly MacDonald comes a behind-the-scenes look at one of the show's biggest evolutions—taking it on the road! When Kelly and Company was first being shaped, Kelly had one big request: remotes. Not just sitting in a studio, but actually getting out, meeting people, and bringing the show to the audience. It started with a simple idea, but thanks to John Melville and AMI leadership, that vision became reality. The team hit the road, covering events like the CNIB Expo during White Cane Week in Toronto (2017), followed by stops in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. These live broadcasts were more than just great radio—they connected Kelly and Company with the very people it was made for. For Kelly, it was a dream come true—standing in front of a crowd, feeling like the broadcaster he always wanted to be. And in the world of audio? It was pure magic.
Nicole Ari Parker is stepping into the DC Universe. The actress, best known for her role in HBO's And Just Like That, has been cast in a recurring role in Lanterns, the upcoming HBO drama centered on the Green Lantern Corps. Parker will portray Bernadette, the mother of John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), one of the two central Green Lanterns in the series.HBO describes Bernadette as “formidable and tenacious,” a woman who has spent her life ensuring her family is not left behind. She is fiercely protective of her son, a trait that will likely shape John Stewart's journey in the show. The series follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler), two members of the Green Lantern Corps, an elite intergalactic force tasked with maintaining order across the cosmos. Their power stems from special rings that grant superhuman abilities, making them one of the most formidable forces in the DC Universe.Lanterns is significant for DC Studios as it marks the first live-action series developed under the leadership of co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The show received a straight-to-series order in June, securing an eight-episode season with True Detective: Night Country and Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy at the helm.In addition to Parker and the lead duo, the cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen, who will portray the iconic Green Lantern antagonist Sinestro. This isn't the first time Green Lanterns have appeared in live-action. Hal Jordan was famously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 Green Lantern film, though that adaptation was widely criticized. Meanwhile, John Stewart has long been a fan-favorite in the comics and animated series but has yet to receive a proper live-action portrayal. His inclusion in Lanterns marks a significant moment, as Stewart was one of DC's first Black superheroes and a key figure in Green Lantern lore.DC's live-action universe is undergoing a major transition. Nathan Fillion has been cast as another Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, in Gunn's upcoming Superman film, slated for a July release. With Lanterns, HBO is set to bring a detective-style drama to the Green Lantern mythos, a tone Gunn previously described as inspired by True Detective. As of now, HBO has not announced an official release date for Lanterns. Meanwhile, Nicole Ari Parker will also return for Season 3 of And Just Like That, set to premiere later this year. What We Know About LanternsA New Era for Green Lantern
From the mind of Kelly & Co. host Kelly MacDonald comes another deep dive into the evolution of the show. When Kelly and Company first aired, its focus was on the low vision and blind community—but as AMI's mission expanded, so did the show's approach. Enter Back to Basics, a groundbreaking series that took listeners through the realities of disability, from diagnosis to daily life, employment, recreation, and beyond. Senior producer Matt Agnew sparked the idea—if he had so many questions, surely the audience did too. The result? A multi-year journey of learning, sharing, and amplifying voices from different perspectives. This is a reflection on how Kelly and Company grew into a platform for more than just conversation—it became a place for education, exploration, and community. And looking back? Well, sometimes it's a challenge to remember it all, but as Kelly says, what matters is we won anyway.
Every great show starts with a spark of inspiration—and for Kelly and Company, that spark came from the incredible contributors who shaped its identity. In this heartfelt reflection, Kelly MacDonald takes us back to the early days of the show, when finding the right voices meant more than just asking—it meant encouraging, mentoring, and sometimes even convincing people of their own potential. One such voice was veterinarian Danielle Jongkind, who wasn't sure if she belonged behind the mic. But after a single dry run, it was clear—she was a natural. From important pet health reminders (yes, including those ever-persistent ticks) to engaging discussions that balanced insight and fun, Danielle became an essential part of the Kelly and Company family. This is a tribute to the contributors who brought depth, longevity, and joy to the show. Fedora's off to them—and as Kelly says, there's always more to tell. Stay tuned.
In this second part of the Kelly & Company origin story, Kelly MacDonald takes us deeper into the decisions and challenges that shaped the show's early days. Back in 2016, AMI's leadership, including John Melville and David Errington, saw an opportunity to build on the success of the morning show by launching a new afternoon program—and Kelly had a major decision to make. After years of balancing television work and radio aspirations, Kelly was given the chance to co-host full-time and help shape a brand-new show. But making the leap meant a complete career shift, a new daily commute, and stepping into the world of live talk radio—something he had never formally trained for. From initial brainstorming sessions with Kevin Philip-Apilé and Matt Agnew to defining the show's focus on lifestyle, health, leisure, and entertainment, this episode walks through the building blocks that turned Kelly & Company from an idea into a reality on October 31, 2016. With legendary guests like Jerry Howarth and John Rafferty kicking off the first episode, the show quickly took on a life of its own. In the next Vanity Card, Kelly will explore how Kelly & Company evolved into the show we know today and what it took to grow its foundation. Stay tuned! Ever wondered how Kelly & Company came to life? In this special Vanity Card, Kelly MacDonald takes us behind the scenes to reveal the unexpected journey that led to the show's creation—sharing details that maybe he shouldn't! It all started back in 2013 or 2014, when AMI-audio was exploring the idea of a live show—a big shift from its traditional format of readings and pre-recorded documentaries. The concept was ambitious, and as auditions began, Kelly, who was focused on television at the time, was initially not part of the plan. But his passion for live broadcasting couldn't keep him away for long. Through a mix of persistence, timing, and a little bit of luck, Kelly found his way into AMI-audio, starting with weekly appearances alongside Mike Ross in early 2016. But his story doesn't stop there—just when things started settling in, AMI's VP of Production, John Melville, called Kelly in for a meeting… and that's where the next chapter begins. Want to know what happened next? Stay tuned for the next Vanity Card where Kelly shares that pivotal conversation! We're kicking off something new! What used to be the Kelly & Company Audio Vanity Card is now evolving into its own thing—just The Vanity Card—and we're giving it a little extra space. But what exactly is a Vanity Card? Kelly MacDonald take a moment to explain its origins, inspired by The Big Bang Theory's end-credit messages. These bite-sized insights offer a behind-the-scenes look at the show, thoughts from the team, and even some personal stories we might regret sharing later. Now, instead of being tucked onto the end of the show, these standalone Vanity Cards will be featured on YouTube, podcasts, and even social media like Instagram and Twitter. Expect them mostly on weekends, but who knows? Inspiration strikes at any time! In this first edition, Kelly sets the stage for what's to come, and next time, Kelly plans to dive into how the show itself came to be. This week, we're fixin' to do somethin' dumber than hell but we're gonna do it anyway, as we close out No-Theme-ber by circling back to the coin-flip best movie of 2007, a gravely serious and barbed-wire-taut neo-western crime thriller that the Coens still manage to sneak an enormous amount of low-key goofy comedy into. It's 2007's No Country For Old Men, written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on the book by Cormac McCarthy, and starring Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Kelly Macdonald, Garrett Dillahunt, Tess Harper, Barry Corbin, Beth Grant and Stephen Root. It's Hayley's nomination for November's canon consideration as we use the last Friday of the month to induct another classic into the pod pantheon. Plus: J Mo's trip to Gladiator II has us recounting memorable bad audience behavior from our years of going to the theater. If you'd like to watch this week's movie before listening to our discussion, No Country For Old Men is now streaming on both Amazon Prime and Netflix in Canada at the time of publication. Other works referenced in this episode include Wicked, The Stand (1994), The Stand (2020), Station Eleven, Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, Super 8, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Fabelmans, The Holdovers, Transformers One, Jack Reacher, Robin Hood (2010), Abigail, Maximum Overdrive, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Blues Brothers, The Big Lebowski, Grindhouse, There Will Be Blood, Inherent Vice, W. and Deadpool 2 among countless others. We'll be back next week to kick off another theme month as the last month of 2024 sees the return of A DePalmber to ReMalmber! That's right, we're going back to the well for DePalmber: Part De, which begins next Friday with The Untouchables, and continues with Body Double and our December canon entry, Blow Out. (We'll take a quick break from DePalma to celebrate Shaqmas with Shaquille O'Neal in Blue Chips.) Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
There's a lot to like about this family drama/dark comedy starring Damian Lewis and Kelly Macdonald as the heads of a family of suburban vampires.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Last week, mere minutes after our Tuesday evening recording session, we were both delighted and disheartened when Marvel Studios dropped its “Look Ahead | Disney Plus'' trailer, which not only provided release dates, but showcased our first official look at footage, for a whopping 8 streaming projects. Here's what we learned: Box office juggernaut Deadpool & Wolverine will be available to stream on the platform beginning November 12, 2024. We already knew Daredevil: Born Again is set to begin streaming March 4, 2025, but the trailer, which was intercut with footage from the other shows, gave us our first look at the villain Muse, the return of Jon Bernthal's Punisher, as well as Bullseye, and perhaps most surprisingly the inclusion of Ms. Marvel's dad, Yusuf Khan What If Season 3 will begin streaming this December 22nd, with no word as to whether that will be a weekly or daily release, like last year. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will begin airing January 29th, 2025 Riri William's Ironheart makes her return beginning June 24th, 2025 Eyes of Wakanda, the animated anthology series is set for an August 6th, 2025 debut Marvel Zombies will premiere sometime in October 2025, with the live action Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II arriving later that December. In a final marketing push ahead of its December 3 premiere, Lucasfilm released final art, a poster, and a new trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The series, which is helmed by Spider-Man filmmaker Jon Watts, is an Amblin Entertainment-inspired coming of age tale that follows four youths who embark on a swashbuckling adventure with unexpected revelations. The trailer is in keeping with what we've seen from the series thus far, which is to say it feels tonally divergent from anything we've seen in Star Wars before, including new species, planets, and a synth-pop heavy score. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is gearing up to bring the world of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones to the silver screen with at least one film in early development. And that's pretty much all we know – there's no creative talent attached yet, meaning no writer or director, much less any word regarding a potential time, setting, or characters that might be involved. Amazon MGM Studios is testing actors for the role of Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's upcoming Tomb Raider series. Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton top Amazon's wish list, according to Deadline. Scary Movie creators Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are reuniting after 18 years to develop a new film in the franchise for Paramount and Miramax. Kelly Macdonald, known for Boardwalk Empire and No Country for Old Men, has joined the cast of DC Studios' Lanterns. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Jack Ryan film, continuing the series storyline with John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Michael Kelly. Andrew Bernstein will direct. Early box office projections show Wicked opening at over $80 million domestically and Gladiator 2 at $65 million, both debuting on November 22. Universal Pictures and LEGO have partnered to develop three live-action LEGO films, directed by Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish. Toho has officially greenlit a new Godzilla movie from the director of last year's Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. Amazon MGM Studios has acquired American Speed, starring Tom Holland and Austin Butler as the scandal-ridden Whittington Brothers, with Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven attached. Ridley Scott revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he's working on a new Alien movie for 20th Century Studios, though it's unclear if it's connected to the Alien: Romulus follow-up or a standalone project. Tom Cruise is in early talks with Paramount for a Days of Thunder sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

James Cameron-Wilson reports that box office takings are up 23%. #1 is the animated The Wild Robot from the creator of How To Train Your Dragon. #3 is The Apprentice, about the property-developing years of Donald Trump. Despite two excellent central performances, it's a dreary and underwhelming affair, which isn't particularly entertaining. The Crime is Mine from the versatile and prolific film director François Ozon is a farcical trifle set in 1930s Paris which is sweet but no Muscatel. On Sky Cinema, The Radleys is a vampire drama set in Whitby with Kelly Macdonald and Damien Lewis. But with an uncertain tone and no link to real life, it most resembles an episode of Grange Hill. Since then, the award winning actress has starred in critically acclaimed films like No Country for Old Men, Gosford Park, as well as Harry Potter franchise, and voiced the fearless Princess Merida in Pixar's Brave. Now, she's taking on a new role in the vampire comedy thriller, The Radleys.Scientists at the University of Oxford are creating OvarianVax, a vaccine which teaches the immune system to recognise and attack the earliest stages of ovarian cancer. Two very different directors talk about two very different films on this episode of the Movies In Focus podcast. First-up, Kevin Smith talks about his 1980s set comedy, The 4:30 Movie and then later in the episode Euros Lyn discusses his vampire-comedy, The Radleys. Kevin Smith was one of the leading figures in the 1990s independent film scene. His self-financed low-budget comedy Clerks was a massive success and he went on to make the likes of Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl and others. Working with rep company that includes the likes of Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes and Matt Damon, Smith's films have also had a strong autobiographical bent, incorporating moments and characters from his own life and adding his own style of acerbic wit. His latest film, The 4:30 Movie is his most autobiographical yet- a 1980s set coming of age story that not only takes place within the confines of Smith's home state of New Jersey - but also his very own SmodCastle cinema. It's a witty and heartfelt film that delivers the goods for fans of his work and those looking for a well-honed comedy. Kevin Smith talks about digging into his past to make the film, shooting in your own cinema - as well as the possibility of a Mallrats sequel. To say that Welsh director Euros Lyn has had an illustrious career would be an understatement. His career as a director is littered with some of the television's top shows including - Casualty, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Broadchurch, Happy Valley, Daredevil, His Dark Materials and Heartstopper. Lyn's new film, The Radleys is based on Matt Haig's book of the same name - and it stars Damian Lewis and Kelly Macdonald as a married couple with a young family - and they all just happen to be vampires. Euros Lyn's chat about The Radleys covers bringing the material to the screen and getting such a great cast for his vampire film.

Send us a Text Message.Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review, where today we're diving deep into the gritty and provocative world of Trainspotting (1996). Directed by Danny Boyle and based on the novel by Irvine Welsh, this film has left an indelible mark on the landscape of British cinema, offering a raw and unflinching look at the lives of a group of heroin addicts in Edinburgh.Trainspotting doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of addiction. Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh's less glamorous side, the film combines dark humour with stark social commentary, capturing the highs and lows of heroin use through the eyes of its protagonist, Mark Renton (played brilliantly by Ewan McGregor). The narrative follows Renton and his group of friends as they navigate the exhilarating yet perilous world of drug addiction. The film is structured around Renton's attempts to get clean, relapses, and interactions with the darker sides of Edinburgh's drug scene. It's known for its iconic opening scene with Renton's Choose Life monologue, which sets the tone for the film's blend of cynicism, defiance, and black comedy. The film explores deep themes of escapism, the search for identity, and the consequences of life choices. It examines how the characters use drugs as a means to escape their mundane and unfulfilling lives, yet also portrays the devastating physical and emotional toll of addiction.Trainspotting remains a must-watch for its fearless storytelling, superb performances, and its status as a pivotal work in the world of cinema. It's a film that manages to be both entertaining and thought-provoking, leaving viewers with plenty to ponder long after it ends. So, whether you're revisiting this '90s classic or experiencing its raw power for the first time, join us on Bad Dads Film Review as we tackle the highs and lows of Trainspotting. This is not just a film review; it's a look at how cinema can confront and capture the complexities of real life.

is a 2007 American neo-Western crime thriller film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on Cormac McCarthy's 2005 novel of the same name. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, the film is set in the desert landscape of 1980 West Texas. The film revisits the themes of fate, conscience, and circumstance that the Coen brothers had explored in the films Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), and Fargo (1996). The film follows three main characters: Llewelyn Moss (Brolin), a Vietnam War veteran and welder who stumbles upon a large sum of money in the desert; Anton Chigurh (Bardem), a hitman who is sent to recover the money; and Ed Tom Bell (Jones), a sheriff investigating the crime. The film also stars Kelly Macdonald as Moss's wife, Carla Jean, and Woody Harrelson as Carson Wells, a bounty hunter seeking Moss and the return of the $2 million.
Join our hosts on the wee Scottish Isle of Hegg (or, rather, the Isle of Mann, masquerading as Scotland if we are being honest about our filming locations) as they review Chelsea's pick: The Decoy Bride. Madison is baffled, yet delighted, at Chelsea's appreciation of the movie and both uncover the real reason why this movie works so well: David Tennant. Sure, the dialogue is witty and the accents and scenery are great, but the cast of the movie is really what elevates it to a height like that of the Hebridean cliffside. While we adored Kelly MacDonald's accent, can we please start letting David Tennant use his Scottish accent? For science? Either way, this movie is definitely worth the watch (and for what it's worth-- this is Madison's favorite episode this season). What is Our Fascination with Anything Vaguely Neuroscience? Curt and Katie chat about our profession's fascination with neuroscience. “So be addicted. Be addicted to something else.”Checking in 20 Years Later with Renton, Spud, Sick Boy, and BegbyThat's right, it's time to talk about Danny Boyle's legacy sequel T2 Trainspotting. It was a long time coming, and that's even after author Irvine Welsh wrote a 10-years-later sequel called “Porno” to his original novel “Trainspotting.” Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we wrap up our conversations about the Trainspotting series with a look at Boyle's 2017 film T2 Trainspotting. Here's a hint at what we talk about.First off, what's up with that dumb title? We chat about it a bit and the reasons they named it that, but it doesn't change our opinions that it doesn't work that well. We were a little concerned about a return to this world, but in the end, we felt it worked. That's largely because the people behind it were passionate about it and kept it honest and in line with where the first film ended. That doesn't mean we don't have issues with some of the character arcs. Could Begbie perhaps have learned something in prison and not come out 20 years later feeling like the same character? Could we have spent a bit more time dealing with Renton's health issues? Why did Kelly Macdonald have to be included in what feels just like a cameo? Still, the story largely works. We like the journeys the characters go on even with some of the issues. We're glad that Boyle and Ewan McGregor were able to work past their problems to find a way into this one. And it's great to see Boyle still finding ways to play with his production style, even if sometimes it doesn't quite feel as fresh as it did the first time around. All in all, it's a surprisingly good return to this world.
