What kind of feedback are you giving to the people you lead and influence? Is it helping them to grow and get better? In today's podcast episode of Monday Morning Moments, we are continuing our series about the habits of great leaders. Today's podcast focuses on how great leaders give great feedback. In this episode, I share 5 ways that you can give great feedback to the people that you lead and influence. These are great principles whether you are a coach focusing on getting the best out of your players, a business leader helping others to maximize their potential, or a leader at home serving and investing in the needs of your family.  Show Notes:Great leaders give great feedback. What is great feedback?Feedback that helps someone else become who they were created to be and deliver their best confidently and consistently.Great feedback is specific, timely, and relevantGreat feedback must always be aligned with the other person's potential to be (Warren Bennis).Great feedback balances positive and constructive feedback, not criticism which literally means to tear down and not build up.As Chris Miller, a program director at UNC Executive Development, writes in his white paper, “Expectations Create Outcomes: Growth Mindsets in Organizations”: “managers with fixed mindsets often fail to recognize positive changes in employee performance. They are also less likely to coach employees about how to improve performance or to offer constructive feedback…This leads to a loss of talent in organizations.”Focus on at least a 3-1 ratio and work to get to a 5-1 ratio.Great feedback recognizes contribution and achievement. Process and outcomes. Growth and achievements.Great feedback should help your team play with belief, trust, and confidence on “game day.” That's the art of leadership.Key Questions:- What kind of feedback are you giving, and is it helping your team develop and become their best?       New Episodes of the Monday Morning Moments Podcast are released every Monday on your favorite podcast platforms as well as on YouTube. Greetings, beloved. As we gather to learn and grow, let us reflect on how we begin our day. The way we start our morning can profoundly influence our ability to hear God's voice and understand His plan for us. In Mark 1:35, we see a simple yet powerful example of seeking solitude to commune with the Father. Let this practice inspire us to follow suit, setting a spiritual tone for our day, free from distractions and focused on God's presence. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Mark 1:35 - "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."In the quiet of the early morning, away from the demands and noise of daily life, there is a precious opportunity to connect with God. This practice of rising early, as I did, to seek a place of solitude, is not merely about following a routine but about positioning ourselves to hear God's voice more clearly. By starting our day in prayer and meditation, we open our hearts to receive divine guidance and strength.Focus Points for Aligning Your Day with God's Plan:* Seek Solitude: Find a quiet place where you can be alone with God. Solitude helps minimize distractions and allows you to focus solely on God's presence.* Pray Sincerely: Approach God with a sincere heart. Share your thoughts, concerns, and desires with Him. Ask for His guidance and wisdom for the day ahead.* Read and Reflect on Scripture: Spend time in God's Word. Let the scriptures speak to you and provide direction and comfort. Reflect on how these teachings apply to your life and your day.* Listen Attentively: After you pray and read the scriptures, spend time listening. Be still and know that He is God. Allow God's spirit to speak to your heart and reveal His plans to you.* Set Intentions Based on What You Receive: As you discern God's guidance, set your intentions for the day. Let these be influenced by what you feel God is placing on your heart. Conclusion: Starting your day with God in prayer and scripture is a powerful way to ensure that you are walking in His will. It aligns your heart with divine purposes and equips you to handle whatever comes your way with faith and wisdom. By following this morning routine, you invite God to lead your steps and make clear His plans for you.Call to Action: Tomorrow morning, rise early and find a quiet place to meet with God. Follow these steps to open your heart to His guidance. Make this practice a daily habit and observe how it transforms your life and aligns you with God's purposes.Question of the Day: What changes can you make to your morning routine to ensure you start your day aligned with God's will?Let's Pray: Father in heaven, thank You for the gift of each new day. Help us to start each morning in Your presence, seeking Your face in the quiet before the day begins. Teach us to listen for Your voice and to follow Your guidance. May our days be filled with Your wisdom and peace as we walk in Your ways. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.As you start each day, remember the peace and clarity that come from spending your first moments with God. Let this time refresh your spirit and guide your actions as you seek to live out God's plan for your day.My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. I often see athletes as well as other leaders in business and life tie their identity to their performance. They falsely believe that who they are is what they do, which results in often playing for acceptance and validation. It can also lead them to striving to derive confidence from external things that they may not have control over. Their self talk is based on "If-Then" scenarios and looks like this: "If I make this shot Then I will feel good about myself." "If we win this game, Then I will feel good about myself." In today's podcast episode of Monday Morning Moments, I share a better mindset to help you perform at your best in sports, business, and life. It's the first of 5 foundational principles that we use when we coach our athletes and teams, and from my experience, it is the most important one...way beyond any mental game skill or technique! Show Notes: Play from a place of acceptance, not for acceptance. Play from a mindset of "Because-Of," not "If-Then." Play from a posture of belief and trust based on your gifts and talents, the work you have put in, your preparation, the trust that your family, teammates, and coaches have in you, and most of all, who you are in the eyes of God who created you. Who you are is not what you do. Don't tie your identity to your performance. While these are not necessarily the only components, we do know from experience that these are essential and foundational if you want to maximize your potential, achieve your goals, and lead and play with purpose and passion. In today's podcast episode of Monday Morning Moments, I share what these 2 characteristics are and encourage you to make these a priority in your life. Show Notes: Joy and Focus... Sometimes, people and athletes can lose both of these. Regarding Joy, their profession becomes just a job or they try to hold on tightly to it and forget the joy they first had when they began doing what they love. Regarding Focus, they lose focus of what's most important or they focus on the wrong things allowing distractions to get in the way of the things and thoughts that allow them to do and play their best! ✅ Remember this week to lead and play from a heart of joy and gratitude which will fuel your passion, attitude, energy, and effort both on the field and off. ✅ Focus on the things and thoughts that are positive, productive, and position you to play your best…rep by rep, possession by possession, and moment by moment.
