In this episode, Lissa Jones welcomes playright Pearl Cleage back to Black Market Reads as they talk about her play The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First 100 Years, playing at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis April 19-May 29, 2025. SYNOPSIS Grande dames Grace Dunbar and Catherine Green prepare for the Nacirema Society's 1964 centennial cotillion — the event of the season in Montgomery, Alabama. The elegant African American debutantes include Grace's granddaughter Gracie, escorted by Catherine's grandson Bobby, and the two grandmothers hope the young couple will soon be engaged. But Gracie and Bobby have other ideas. As the young ladies prepare for their debuts, a blackmail scheme brews behind the scenes and subterfuges unfold, all under the nose of a skeptical reporter covering the ball. Featuring clever storytelling and scandalous plots, this lighthearted comedy winds its way to an ending as charming as its characters.  Our production team for this episode includes co producers Lissa Jones and Edie French, technical director Paul Auguston, the voice Yo Derek, and our artist of inspiration Ta-coumba T. Aiken. We thank Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota for supporting this series focusing on the intersection of health, race, and culture. This is Black Market Reads.

As we enter a season of greater darkness and less light (for those of us in the Northern hemisphere), it is imperative to spend more time within, connect to your heart, inner pilot light, and the all loving Divine Mind.    This week's episode is with Lars Muhl, spiritual teacher and author of The God Formula and The Sacred Numbers of Initiation, and Naleea Landmann, healer and author of The Love That You Are.   It's all about how to experience divine communion and disappear fear and misconceptions about yourself that are untrue.    More about my guests:   Lars Muhl is an author, musician, therapist and inspirational speaker who since childhood has been connected to spirituality. In his own words: “Very early I had some powerful out-of-body experiences and glimpses into etheric realms which showed me that there is more to life than most people are aware of.” He studied the Aramaic language, esoteric Christianity and the mystery traditions of the Essenes and the Therapeutae for many years, but it wasn't before he started to work with the seer and healer Calle de Montségur, he realized that studying and reading only make up half of what is needed in order to realize our full potential. Only through genuine spiritual practice and experiences will we be able to fully understand that we are already Enlightened Beings. He has worked together with Naleea Landmann since 2017. She started as a translator of his German workshops. Later she edited, translated and contributed to his books The God Formula, The Light within a Human Heart, and The Sacred Numbers of Initiation. They co-write texts about the work and she filmed and produced many of the recent videos. Today they are doing talks, concerts and workshops together under the umbrella of Sacred Seed.   Naleea Landmann is a therapist, musician, author, actor and inspirational speaker. Since early childhood, Naleea had a strong yearning to connect with the Divine and understand the realities of this world and the universe. Her out-of-body experiences lead her to question “reality” already as a young child – her personal experiences as well as our path as humanity. Finding a way to express what she perceived and felt, she first started to use acting as a tool to communicate and reach people, as well as an opportunity to understand the ways of our personality structures. Her vision is to live within a world of heart-centered beings, who listen to their own guidance and share themselves and their gifts in joy, true connection and Divine communion. Her first book, The Love That You Are – Psalm 119 Meditations, is a guide and companion to enter into the I AM Presence through prayer. The paraphrased Psalm can be found as well in the book The Sacred Numbers of Initiation by Lars Muhl.     The prayer recited in this episode:  Psalm 119:89-96   "Heavenly Source of All Being,  I am Light, born within the Light.   89 Your word and wisdom are eternal; their echo fills the spheres of all Heavens. 90 I AM the faith passed on by the Mighty Ones;  the ancient glory of the Earth rejoices in all her splendor. 91 Now and forever, Your Light fills all existence,  and all things radiate Your Presence. 92 I AM the delight in Your wisdom,  it comforts and strengthens me at all times. 93 I AM the remembering of Your love;  it is the sacred breath of my life. 94 Your Presence is my belonging and my safety; I AM the enfolding of Your guidance. 95 If I face wickedness or destruction,  I open Your shield of peace. 96 I raise my senses into Your vibration; I AM the merging with Your boundless Light.”   About Your Host, Julie Reisler Join Julie Reisler weekly, podcast host, intuitive coach, author, and multi-time TEDx speaker, each week to learn how to access your spiritual gifts and inner guidance to be your You-est You® and achieve greater inner peace, spiritual connection, happiness, and abundance. Psalm 21 is the celebration of the accomplished victory prayed for in Ps 20. The kind of language used means it's a Messianic Psalm, for only Christ can fully fulfil these words, although it was fulfilled in measure by David. The ancient Rabbis interpreted it as speaking of King Messiah (v1), but the later Rabbis dropped this view, to try & prevent Christians from showing how Jesus perfectly fulfils it. v1: “The KING (Messiah) shall have joy in Your strength (invisible power), O LORD; and in Your salvation (manifested victory) how greatly shall he rejoice!” This describes God's mighty power that raised Christ from the dead, bringing Him into manifested victory & glory. Likewise, we should thank God for the invisible power of His Spirit (the blessing), as well as the manifested blessings brought forth by His grace. This verse is the answer to the prayers in Ps 20:2,5,8. v2: “You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request (desire) of his lips. Selah.” This corresponds to Ps 20:4. His desire is our salvation, through His victory over enemy powers (Heb 12:2). Note the poetic parallelism – He did not just desire our salvation & victory, but prays for us (Jas 4:2, Heb 7:25). You were on His mind when He went to the Cross and ever since! Also notice God works through our desires, but only when our heart is submitted to God (Ps 37:4, Phil 2:12-13). v3: “For You meet (welcome) him with the blessings of goodness (abundant rich blessings); You set a crown of pure gold on his head.” Here the image changes from celebrating a Conquest to a Coronation - both were fulfilled by Christ in His Ascension. Having won His great victory, He ascended to Heaven and was crowned as Lord of all. Also as our representative He received every blessing of the New Covenant on our behalf, so that every blessing is now ours in Christ (Eph 1:3), for we are joints heirs with Him (Rom 8:17). This blessing includes abundant & eternal life, salvation, glory, authority (v4-5). The fact He shares this blessing with us is stated in v6a: “For You have made him most blessed forever (literally, ‘you have made Him blessings forever').” This means He was made to the source of blessing to us forever (blessed to be a blessing). This blessing includes joy, which only comes from God's Presence: “You have made him exceedingly glad (‘joyful with gladness') with Your Presence” (see Ps 16:11). God's Presence is the key to happiness. Thus, holiness comes before happiness (Heb 1:9, Ps 45:7). The basis for Christ (and us) to receive God's blessing is faith in the Lord and His covenant love: “For the KING trusts in the Lord, and through the mercy (covenant love and faithfulness) of the Most High, he shall not be moved (shaken)” (v7). He shall be established forever in God's grace. Whereas Part 1 looks back Christ's decisive victory at His 1st Coming (v1-7), Part 2 looks forward to His future victory at His 2nd Coming, when He'll judge all His enemies and establish His Kingdom on earth (v8-13). Thus, after Christ's initial victory, this predicts His enemies will still be in the field, which is the case. But at His 2nd Coming He will search out and then seize all His enemies with His mighty right hand (v8, Ex 15:6). He'll then throw them into His fiery furnace: “You (the KING) shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger (lit: ‘face, presence'), the LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them” (v9). This will happen when they meet Him face to face for judgment. The parallelism shows the close relationship between KING (Messiah) and the LORD. Christ is the Lord's representative & channel of both the Lord's salvation for His people (v6) and His wrath on His enemies (v9). This judgment is in 2 stages: (1) At the 2nd Coming (or death) the souls of the wicked are thrown into the fire of Hades, and then at the end of time, they'll be resurrected and stand before the Great White Throne, and then be thrown body & soul into the Lake of Fire. All they've produced (the fruit of their lives) will be destroyed, as well as their spiritual sons, who partook of their nature and followed in their ways (v10). They'll get their just desserts for they planned evil against God, but were always bound to fail (v11), for God resists the proud (Jas 4:6), and you can't defeat God. This reveals the futility of the godless life (any success is temporary). At a time of His choosing, He'll confront all rebels and cause them to want to flee, but there'll be no escape. God is seen as the Divine Warrior, who has already prepared His arrows of judgment, placed them on His bow, pulled back the strings, and pointed His arrows toward their faces - a picture of imminent judgment (v12). Ps 21 concludes with God's people praising Him for manifesting His power, not only in accomplishing salvation for them, but also for judging His enemies (v13). This judgment is a necessary part of establishing His Kingdom (Rev 11:15-18, 19:1-6).

How do you help your children build confidence? How do you teach your kids to be resilient? Today, Jay welcomes Dr. Aliza Pressman. Aliza is a developmental psychologist with nearly two decades of experience working with families and healthcare providers. She is the host of the Raising Good Humans podcast and an expert in parenting strategies and child development. Dr. Pressman is also the author of The Five Principles of Parenting: Your Essential Guide to Raising Good Humans, where she offers practical advice and insights for parents looking to raise emotionally resilient and well-rounded children.  Aliza begins by discussing whether everyone should become a parent and emphasizes the importance of being intentional and reflective before making that decision. She suggests that potential parents should think about their own values and how they want to approach parenting. She explains that having a strong, secure bond with a child is crucial for their development and that this bond can evolve over time, even if there have been mistakes along the way.  Some children are more sensitive and require a specific environment to thrive, while others are more adaptable. She encourages parents to be mindful of their child's unique needs. The discussion moves on to discipline and encouragement. Dr. Pressman suggests that discipline should focus on teaching rather than punishing, with clear boundaries set for the child's safety and well-being. When it comes to building confidence, she emphasizes that helping children develop skills (competence) is more effective than simply giving praise. In this interview, you'll learn: How to handle parenting guilt and shame How to set boundaries for your child How to build your child's confidence How to discipline effectively How to foster independence in your child How to build a secure attachment with your child By focusing on building secure attachments, setting clear boundaries, and fostering independence, parents can create a nurturing environment where their children can thrive.  With Love and Gratitude, Jay Shetty What We Discuss: 00:00 Intro 02:57 Should Everyone Be a Parent? 04:29 How Do We Get to Be Who We Are? 05:50 Secure Attachment Relationship 07:15 Feeling of Guilt and Shame as a Parent 11:07 Tiny Moments to Build Resilience 15:31 The Tendency to Overcorrect 17:03 What is Effective Reflection? 21:44 Learn to Reflect with Your Children 26:31 Failure as a Parent 31:14 Different Forms of Communication with Children 35:10 What is the Right Approach to Discipline? 39:10 Three Parenting Styles  41:36 Tension and Rejection Can Be a Motivation 45:34 Dealing with a Child Who Doesn't Want to Open Up 50:12 Your Presence is Important 51:46 How to Have a Social Media Conversation? 57:12 How to Raise a Confident Human? 01:01:40 Allow Kids to Showcase What They Learned 01:05:53 Adults Can Work on Themselves 01:07:23 Aliza on Final Five Episode Resources: Dr. Aliza Pressman | Website Dr. Aliza Pressman | Instagram Dr. Aliza Pressman | Facebook Raising Good Humans The 5 Principles of Parenting: Your Essential Guide to Raising Good Humans See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When we lean on His chest and receive His rest, we enter into it for ourselves and are able to fully let go. God wants to transform us by deeper dependency. As we see in Song of Songs 8, lovers lean. When we trust Him, we lean, when we lean, we love. Yielding of fruit comes from yielding to God. Adoration is the key, it is inhaling God. It opens up our spiritual receptivity and ability to enter into His rest.Related Materials:In Delighting in His Presence, founder of Sonship International and passionate follower of Christ Eric Gilmour shares brief yet profound and provoking devotionals that push you beyond the limitations of your present walk with God―and usher you into an intimate, experiential relationship with the living Jesus of the Bible. Eric shows that union with Christ is not reserved for the saints of old―it's an invitation being extended to you, right now, through the Holy Spirit. He reveals the fullness of what's possible―and available―in this sacred relationship. Delighting in Your Presence is Available August 6th!

In the wake of a “major Summit” on Ukraine which neither the Russians nor the Chinese attended, the war remains as murky and inconclusive as ever. And it's this murkiness and inconclusiveness that the San Francisco based writer Sasha Vasiljuk explores in her new novel, Your Presence is Mandatory. But Vasiljuk's semi-autobiographical, semi-fictional canvas focuses on more than just Putin's invasions of Ukraine. It's a sweeping panorama of the last seventy-five years of Ukrainian history - although there's nothing particularly sweeping or panoramic about the awkward secrets that Vasiljuk digs up in this most most morally murky of geographies.Sasha Vasilyuk is a journalist and author of the debut novel Your Presence is Mandatory (Bloomsbury) about a Ukrainian Jewish WWII soldier and his family who reckon with his lifelong secrecy. The novel will also come out in Italy, France, Germany, Finland and Brazil in Fall 2024. Sasha grew up between Ukraine and Russia before immigrating to the U.S. at the age of 13. She has a MA in Journalism from New York University and her nonfiction has appeared in The New York Times, CNN, TIME, Los Angeles Times, Harper's Bazaar, BBC Radio, USA Today, KQED, San Francisco Chronicle, The Telegraph, and Narrative. She has won several writing awards, including the Solas Award for Best Travel Writing and the NATJA award. Besides writing, she has founded a leading wedding PR company and the first coworking space in San Francisco. She also spent a year traveling alone around the world. Sasha is a graduate of Lowell High School, UC Berkeley (BA in Comparative Literature and Italian Studies), and New York University (MA in Journalism). Imagine finding out that someone you loved lived a double life…keeping a secret the entire family knew nothing about until after they died. Secrets, especially those born out of shame, can make us feel small and hidden. They can have dangerous consequences, not just personally, but also socially and culturally.  On the other hand, bringing those secrets to light can be profoundly enlightening, powerful, and maybe even spark social change.  On today's episode of the Storytelling with Heart podcast, we explore both the impact of secret-keeping and the potential of storytelling, with journalist and debut novelist, Sasha Vasilyuk. Sasha Vasilyuk is a journalist and author of the new novel, Your Presence is Mandatory, which spans between World War II and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Sasha has an MA in journalism from New York University and her nonfiction has been published in the New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, CNN, Time magazine and more.  Sasha grew up between Ukraine and Russia before immigrating to the U.S. at the age of 13. In 2007, after her grandfather's death, Sasha's grandmother discovered in his papers a confession letter addressed to the KGB, revealing a history previously buried. Loosely inspired by her grandfather's story, the novel explores the multi-generational impact of not only war and trauma, but also secrets and stigma.  In this episode of the Storytelling with Heart podcast, we explore Sasha's fascinating family story, as well as broader themes such as: – The value of fiction writing and how it can be used to explore nuanced and difficult subjects. – The personal and social risk of internalized shame – how storytelling, or the lack thereof, can shape cultural narratives as well as causing personal harm. – How to navigate the muddy waters of sharing complicated stories with our children and young people. – The challenge of sharing sensitive or vulnerable stories, and how to decide when it's worth it to share the truth (or not). – Why it's worth exploring family histories, regardless of whether you want to publish them. – Plus, tips for memoir and creative nonfiction writing! Wellness expert Heather Grzych interviews journalist and fellow author Sasha Vasilyuk about several difficult themes from her debut novel, Your Presence is Mandatory, which is set between World War II and the current Russia-Ukraine conflict and is loosely based on the life of Sasha's Jewish-Ukranian grandfather, who was a POW and ostarbeiter in Germany during World War II. They discuss the silence, fear and shame that can come from having family secrets, and why we decide to hide things from our family or community. Restore broken hearts How right Job was when he said that those at ease have contempt for misfortune. Lord, we acknowledge our lack of compassion before you for those in need. And we pray to share more of Your heart, a Restorer of broken walls. You desire that our heart should be like well-watered gardens, springs whose waters never fail, but there is stuff that You need to do in our heart, Lord, to make it possible for us to share Yours. We remember how a hand touched Daniel and raised him up, causing him to stand, catching and strengthening him and all that came from that. We remember how You stretched out your hand and touched Jeremiah's mouth. And how you laid your right hand on John at the start of the Revelation. Jesus, friend of sinners and Re-mender of broken hearts, we pray today for those who are lonely and sinned, and who receive but little outside support and stimulus, and few if any visit. Jesus be the Visitor. Visit those whose relationships have broken asunder and whose hearts are raw, and whose prospects are bleak. Release the grief in their hearts, the tension in their muscles, the blockages in their hearts and minds, and draw as many as will let You do so fully under the shadow of your wing. Lay Your hand afresh on us now, Lord. Even as Jehoshaphat brought many people back to the Lord, we're asking you to restore those who've wandered from the truth, because it's Your word that restores the soul. And we pray that we may play our part by praying for You to restore those who are far from your presence. Your goodness and compassion never falter nor fail, so come by whatever guise You choose to adopt and bring the reality of Your goodness close to lonely souls this day. For these weary hearts, Lord, we pray, where the slightest thing requires a great effort. Draw people with cords of kindness. Their hearts are clashing, Lord, and out of alignment. So be a Shelter from the wind, a Refuge from the storm, a Stream of Water in the desert, and the Shade of a great Rock in a thirsty land. Oh Lord, open the eyes of those who are blind. Open the ears of those who aren't used to listening to things that actually matter most for life and eternity. Part the veils of deception. Put to flight the fears and the reluctance that hold You at bay, so that they can be all that You would have them be, and noble plans may be embraced and noble deeds be performed. Restore the confused to their rightful minds and the wasteful to the fear of the Lord. Let them recall moments when Your Presence has passed close by, or those times when they caught the whisper of a voice from heaven speaking truth to their inmost being. May they pay close attention to that light that shone in a dark place, so that in your great mercy they may embrace the new birth You are offering them, and receive the living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. May the morning star rise in their hearts, we pray.

I often talk to the athletes I coach on their mental game about Presence and Process. How does fasting relate to God's pattern of rest? It's Day 21. The last day of our fast! If you made it this far, I'm super proud of you. You have done something that few people are willing to do. Today, we look at frequently asked questions about fasting in the final chapters of "A Complete Guide to Biblical Fasting: Master the Habit that Provokes God's Favor" by Ted Shuttlesworth, Jr. DISCLAIMERS: Remember, fasting does not move God. Fasting moves us. It puts us in a position to receive from God.   I am not a medical professional, and nothing in this podcast should be taken as medical advice.  Please fast responsibly. If you have any underlying health issues or unhealthy relationship with food, do not fast. And if you are going on an extended fast, it's a good idea to check with your doctor first. Father God,  As we come to the end of this season of fasting, we thank You for loving providing this discipline for our benefit. Help us to not just understand the physical benefits but to embrace the spiritual renewal it offers. We recognize that our bodies are the temple of Holy Spirit. We are not our own, but have been purchased with an exceedingly precious price. Help us to used the discipline of fasting as a tool to cleanse and rejuvenate ourselves, inside and out. May our furture journeys through fasting draw us ever closer to You, deepening our faith and heightening our awareness of Your presence in our lives. Strengthen our bodies and our spirits, and hep us to persevere, especially when faced with challenges or temptations. When we fast, let it be with pure intentions, seeking not just the physical detoxification but a deeper, spiritual cleansing that aligns us more closely with Your will. Father, I speak a special blessing over those who have been traveling with me on this path of fasting. Continue to give them revelation and clarity. I speak healing over their bodies and strength and renewal over their relationships with others and especially with you. May the insights we've gained over the past weeks not just linger in our minds, but manifest in our lives as we strive to live in a way that honors You. Thank You for the nourishment of Your Word and this special time spent in Your Presence.  In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. ----- Thank you for joining me on Meditating The Word today. This is Cheree, reminding you that you are in my prayers. I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.  Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing. ---- Resources mentioned in today's Podcast Episode: A Complete Guide to Biblical Fasting: Master the Habit that Provokes God's Favor by Ted Shuttlesworth, Jr. https://amzn.to/3OqpXrB - #CommissionsEarned God's Chosen Fast (FaithEssentials) by Arthur Wallis https://amzn.to/49mWbMk - #CommissionsEarned Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/richard-bodgers/earth-in-bloom License code: PKB2GOTPFQSZZFD7 Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/sonder-house/dreaming-elliott-jacques License code: 5HBP1CI7GED7IEQD #meditatingtheword #podcast #fasting #fastingandprayer #TedShuttlesworth #completeguidetobiblicalfasting #GodsChosenFast #ArthurWallis

Day Three: Fasting as Part of the Grieving Process

In the shadows of sorrow, can fasting help us through the grieving process? Today we'll explore one of the most common -- although not always conscious -- reasons for fasting.  It's Day three of our 21 day fast. Today, we're going to talk about Fasting as Part of the Grieving Process. We'll look at an account of fasting in 1st Samuel 1 and 2nd Samuel 1 and 1st Chronicles 10. If you are struggling to process grief, you may want to consider fasting as part of your transformation. Remember, fasting doesn't move God. Fasting moves us. It puts us in a position to receive from God.  And please fast responsibly. If you have any underlying health issues or unhealthy relationship with food, do not fast. If you are going on an extended fast, it's a good idea to check with your doctor first.  ----- Father God, I speak Your Word over everyone listening to this podcast. And especially over those dealing with grief. May they feel Your embrace in their season of mourning. You are always present, Father. May they find peace in Your Presence even in their moments of sorrow.  We are reminded that we do not grieve as unbelievers do. Because we know that earthly, physical death is not the end. We have the hope of seeing our loved ones again. Give those who are going through this process the courage to face each day, and the hope to see beyond their pain. Father, You heal the broken hearted, and You soothe our troubled spirits. Help those who have lost someone dear to treasure the cherished memories and the love shared. Bless them with the support of friends and family, and guide those around them to offer words of comfort and acts of kindness.  Thank You for Your everlasting love. Amen. ----- Thank you for joining me on Meditating The Word today. This is Cheree, reminding you that you are in my prayers. I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.  Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing. ---- Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/richard-bodgers/earth-in-bloom License code: PKB2GOTPFQSZZFD7 Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/sonder-house/dreaming-elliott-jacques License code: 5HBP1CI7GED7IEQD

We're more digitally connected than ever.  And we're struggling with loneliness more than ever. So bizarre, right?  But we've had enough time to prove one thing - likes and comments and followers are STILL not nearly as powerful as YOUR PRESENCE. That's why I wanted to talk about 3 Simple Tips to Improve Any Relationship this week.  Because the ironic thing is - with people STARVING for attention, it really only takes a BIT of intentionality to make a difference in a relationship. Think about it - you have the ability to POWERFULLY CONNECT with those nearest and dearest to you, simply by being present and intentional. It's such a gift to share with others.  It's such a gift to share with yourself. I hope this episode inspires you to BE the person who leads the way in your relationships!

In this episode, we reflect on the words of Jesus in John 6:25 - 70, and build on the foundation of God's own example of humility demonstrated in the Person of Jesus Christ (discussed in the previous episode). St Paul reminds us, "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus." With that, he roots this encouragement in the example of the Lord's own humility. What does humility have to do with the Eucharist? How do we become one with Christ in the Eucharist? How do we live a Eucharistic life of humility? What should this "Eucharistic life of humility" look like? Listen to find out! Philippians 2:1-11 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 1 Corinthians 13:4 - 7 Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Stay With Me - Prayer of St Padre Pio Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You. Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without fervor. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in darkness. Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will. Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You. Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much, and always be in Your company. Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You. Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I want it to be a place of consolation for You, a nest of love. Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close, and life passes; death, judgment, eternity approaches. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I need You. It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my Jesus, in this night of exile! Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all it's dangers. I need You. Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart. Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain united to You, if not by communion, at least by grace and love. Stay with me, Jesus, I do not ask for divine consolation, because I do not merit it, but the gift of Your Presence, oh yes, I ask this of You! Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more. With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen Who are "Fred and Kara?" Find out by visiting our home page. God has set us free so we can live free. If we have prioritized God in our life, we will be able to filter everything after that to determine whether or not it serves us to serve Him. If God doesn't have priority in our heart, we will not be the “images of God” He created us to be. Next up, does God have PRIORITY in our speech? Does what comes out of our mouths represent God well? God had set the Israelite FREE…so they could live free, enjoying the peace, prosperity and blessing of living in a covenant relationship with Him. Again, the 10 Commandments don't save us…but they do reveal our deep need for Jesus…who perfectly fulfills his summary of all the laws, to love God and to love people. He did perfectly!TALK ABOUT IT - Questions to GROW through with family, friends, & myself. 1. What does my first name mean? What does my last name mean? What are the values my parents taught me?2. Seek God Together

If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read 1 Samuel 15:22. This verse says, “Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? Look: to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams.” With these words Saul is rejected as king of Israel and David - the man after God's own heart - replaces him.  I have to admit at first reading to having a little sympathy for Saul. I mean look at him. Not perfect by any means, but by the time he figures out his folly, seeks forgiveness and is seemingly denied. Harsh. I mean who hasn't disobeyed? David disobeyed in spectacular fashion but was never rejected as king. You could say that David's sin exceeded Saul's. And after all, isn't obedience just a type of sacrifice in itself? But consider that this verse, like all scripture, is insight into the heart of God. This verse sheds light on what moves Him. What doesn't move Him? Sacrifice. Sacrifice is giving a thing. Even giving another life, something of value that would “appease” God. As if God is a moody tyrant who needs a bribe. As if God's favor could be bought with a price.  But that's not God. God is ultimately after relationship. And for those willing to hear it, romance. Bribery and appeasement have no place in romance. What does though? Paying attention, honor, love, submission. In short - obedience. When these are violated no amount of sacrifice restores them. This is why even when David committed such atrocities as adultery, intrigue, and murder, he remained and is forever hailed as a man after God's own heart. What troubled Saul the most was losing his position. What broke David's heart was the severed intimacy between him and God. And while David's disobedience resulted in very real consequences (as does ours) for the worshipper, God is always at the ready to forgive and continue the romance.  Obedience always makes the felt reality of romance sweeter.  “God, I don't want to disobey. I've done enough of that. I want You. I want to be close to You. I want the sweetness of Your Presence. Allow me to feel that now.”
