When your adult child is going through heartbreak, it can be difficult to know what to do. You want to protect them, take away their pain, and somehow make everything better—but you can't walk through the heartbreak for them. Whether they are grieving a breakup, betrayal, disappointment, or another painful relationship experience, Christian parents can learn to support their adult children while trusting God to carry them through the storm. Isaiah 43:2 reminds us that God doesn't promise a life without painful seasons, but He does promise His presence in the middle of them: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” As a parent, that means you don't have to fix your adult child's heartbreak. You can listen, offer a steady and loving presence, pray for them, and give their pain and future to God, trusting Him to bring healing, wisdom, and hope in His timing. Highlights How to support an adult child through heartbreak without trying to fix everything Why parents must learn to trust God with their grown children's pain How Isaiah 43:2 offers hope in seasons of grief and emotional pain Practical ways to be present for an adult child who is hurting Why listening can be more helpful than offering advice or pity How to cast your own anxiety about your child's pain on God Finding faith, hope, and love while waiting for healing and redemption Want more encouragement throughout your week? Full Transcript Below: Giving Your Adult Child’s Heartbreak to God By: Lia Girard Bible Reading: When you pass through the waters,I will be with you;and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2, NIV As Christians, we know that Jesus doesn’t promise a trouble-free life here on earth. Which naturally means we can expect that there will be days or seasons of pain, heartache, confusion, or grief. However, just knowing that we’re human (and that hurt will find us eventually) doesn’t prevent the sadness and anger heartbreak causes—whenever and however it shows up. We can try to gird ourselves with gratitude, faith, and hope. Relying on this inclination can help us weather storms. But we can’t make the storms simply not come. Being a parent of two adult children, I deeply understand the desire to wish every hard thing away from your children’s lives. It starts early, before their very first injury, and continues through your entire parenting journey. And although you know that surviving struggles will help your children build compassion, wisdom, and strength, this can get dicey when it comes to someone mistreating them or breaking their heart. Because you’ve raised your child to be an adult, you know they’re “out there” in this world, taking chances, loving deeply, and making their own choices. Yet you still want to be there for them, whenever they may need you. But the role has shifted fully now, from daily provider to encourager as they chart their own path. You know it’s right to raise adults, and not “baby” your grown children, but it’s also a strange and somewhat tender passage. It means letting go of having a say-so and just being available for them as they seek direction from the ultimate parent, God. In Isaiah 43:2, God is reassuring the Israelites that he is carrying them through their exile, no matter how hard it seems. And he is assuring all of us today that no matter what your adult child is walking through, God promises to step right into the murky water with them. Later in Isaiah 43:18-19, God says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Some biblical scholars say that God is clearly stating here that when a situation is dire and feels unbearable, he will never abandon you and is working on something new for you. This is good news when your own heart is aching because someone has broken your adult child’s heart. It means you can be sure that God is in control of your child’s recovery. Remember, it’s a promise. And for your own heart, while you’re believing in God to carry your child through grief, you can lean into 1 Peter 5:7, and “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” When someone hurts your grown child’s heart, leaving them holding a heavy load of bewilderment or loneliness, let them know you love them and are right here for anything they want or need. Keep checking in and listening. It’s likely they’ve been through enough maturing to not want or need you to preach to them, offer them pity, or even cry with them—though I know you want to. Because God is with them, you can be the same present, interested, loving parent you’ve always been, and have faith in better days ahead. You may have been through to the other side of heartbreak yourself and seen the kind of redemption your child hasn’t. Yet. It’s certain they will encounter their own unique ups, downs, and renewals. So be patient. Be kind. And remember that the final verse of the famous 1 Corinthians 13 “love chapter” that tells us true love is patient and kind, also encourages us: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Remind your child that God loves them, and so do you. And that you believe God’s promise: that He will carry them through. Intersecting Faith & Life: When you want to “fix” your adult child’s relationship heartbreak, consider instead offering your loving presence in ways like these: Invite them to lunch, dinner, or dessert somewhere they’ve been wanting to try Find and suggest a nature hike to enjoy together Have them over to watch a show or sports game you both enjoy If they’re far away, send them something soothing, like socks, slippers, or a delivery dinner Interact with them the same way you always have—with love, joy, and interest in them Ask: Do you want to talk? And respect their wishes. Further Reading:Psalm 147:3 Psalm 55:22 Psalm 23 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Using the disciples' journey between Christ's resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, they explore what God may be doing when His promises seem delayed. The disciples moved from questions and doubt to proclaiming Christ with extraordinary power and conviction. What happened during the time between those two spiritual milestones? They waited, prayed, obeyed Christ's instructions, and allowed God to prepare them for what was coming.Joshua and T.S. explain why waiting seasons are not wasted seasons. God uses them to deepen our roots, mature our faith, test our motives, and develop the character required to sustain the calling He has placed upon our lives. In this episode, you will discover:Why God frequently prepares His people through seasons of waitingHow the disciples moved from uncertainty to Pentecostal powerWhy immediate gratification works against patience and spiritual maturityHow comparison, pride, and selfish ambition create discontentmentThe difference between doing something “for God” and walking obediently with GodWhy believers must surrender their plans, timing, and personal agendasHow to remain faithful when God appears silentWhy every breakthrough may lead to another season of preparationThe Christian life is not about forcing doors open and then asking God to bless our decisions. It is about daily surrender—trusting God's goodness, obeying His direction, and allowing Him to receive all the glory.Scriptures and biblical themes discussed include Matthew 28, Acts 1–2, Philippians 2, perseverance, contentment, dying to self, the Great Commission, and the Day of Pentecost.Learn more about T.S. Are your hands busy while your heart runs on empty? In Luke 10, Mary made a revolutionary choice—sitting at Jesus' feet as a disciple when culture said she shouldn't—while Martha spiraled into anxiety, distraction, and even frustration with Jesus himself. Pastor Blake closes this powerful *Rest* series by revealing that Sabbath resistance isn't really a scheduling problem—it's a heart problem. Like Martha, we confuse productivity with faithfulness and doing *for* Jesus with simply being *with* him. Don't miss this message—it might be the permission your weary soul has been waiting for.

Like the seventh day in Genesis, which uniquely has no evening or morning, God's rest never ended—and we're invited into it still. Have you ever felt God nudging you toward something—but fear, doubt, or insecurity kept you from taking the next step? Maybe it's having a difficult conversation, starting a Bible study, pursuing a dream, reaching out to a neighbor, or simply trusting God in an uncertain season. Whatever it is, you're not alone. This week on The Love Offering Podcast, I had the joy of talking with author Laura L. Smith about her new book, Brave Women, Mighty God. Together, we explored the stories of women in Scripture who faced fear, uncertainty, and impossible circumstances—yet found the courage to move forward because of the God who was with them. One of my favorite reminders from our conversation was this: bravery isn't about being fearless. It's about trusting God enough to take the next step, even when we're afraid. Laura shared how the same God who empowered women like Esther, Ruth, Hannah, and Abigail is still empowering His daughters today. We talked about overcoming fear, resisting comparison, embracing obedience, and remembering that God's power is made perfect in our weakness. If you've been feeling stuck, uncertain, or hesitant to move forward in something God is calling you to do, I believe this conversation will encourage your heart. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why bravery isn't about your strength—it's about God's power working through you• How fear often keeps us from stepping into God's best• The importance of taking one small step of obedience at a time• How prayer reminds us who God is and who we are in Him• Why comparison can rob us of the unique calling God has given us• How the mighty God of Scripture is still equipping and empowering women today Friend, you don't have to have the entire plan figured out. You only need the courage to take the next faithful step. Because the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. Be sure to share this episode with a friend who could use a little encouragement to be brave. With love, Rachael P.S. I'd love to hear: What's one brave step God may be asking you to take right now? We tend to underestimate the Authority of Jesus in every area of our lives and overestimate our own authority. This is why we fight a losing battle for control over our circumstances rather than surrender to the one who is greater than our circumstances. Jesus has authority over everything – Every realm, every space, every part of our lives: Spiritual, Emotional and physical. To believe the gospel is to surrender all that we are to the authority of Jesus, and when we do, He redeems every part of who we are.

As we have journeyed together, we have learned that it takes surrender and humility to live for God. These certainly aren't qualities that the culture magnifies. (This narrows down our search, for sure.) It means we won't be seeking and finding our purpose in the culture or ourselves. Teresa Lesher is the author of the new Searching for God, Finding Love, which is an inspirational account of her personal journey deeper into faith upon the quest for truth, and in which she details her personal healing path and realization that God's divine love and mercy are both imminent and accessible by turning "inwards and upwards." The truth is easy to see. The decision is the hard part. I thank God every day for being Muslim. I'm very grateful to be among the Muslims. Teresa Lesher In this illuminating conversation, Teresa describes how she came to embrace Islam in the early 1980's while at college in the United States at a time prior to the internet and when there was remarkably little information about the faith. She explains the importance of belief in the Day of Accounting, the necessity of balance in faith by deepening one's spirituality in addition to upholding the formal disciplines of religion, that love must be based in action and in service, the key to authentic self-discovery, and much more. Teresa also shares the impact of the Course in Spiritual Healing upon her personal spiritual journey and awakening to the power and presence of God, and emphasizes the importance of realizing that the key to connection with our Creator lies in the very breath we are given each living moment. The best part of the course for me were the meditations and the breathwork. They helped me to still my soul, to feel more centered and to find some balance, and to find some quiet and peace. Teresa Lesher We also discuss the importance of recognition of results in the context of discernment, the profound and incomprehensible gift of access to the very speech of God in the form of the Holy Qur'an, how love heals and connects, the impact of technology and the internet on our culture, the importance of unplugging from the world, the difference between information and enlightenment, the power in the emptiness of the desert, and much more. About Teresa Lesher Teresa Lesher as of the time of writing lives in Kuwait with her family and is wife, mother, writer and most importantly servant of God. She is the author of Searching for God, Finding Love, and you can learn more about Teresa as well as purchase her book and connect with her directly via her website, Teresa Lesher. All this time I've been searching for God, and I found Him, as close to me as my breath. And so, before and beyond all my labels, titles, positions, and duties, I remembered my source in God, His breath breathed into my tiny body, and eventually a breath my body will exhale as I make my return journey to my Maker. Now I'm sure of who I am. And now that I know myself, I know everyone. We are all, essentially, a breath from God; we are created by Him, we belong to Him, and we are returning to Him. In the meantime, I will do my best to honor the privilege of my existence and implication of my origin. I will respect myself, and strive to be whole and wholesome, loving and loved, tender and joyful. I will honor all living things, since they, too, house that divine breath. I will stay conscious of my source and my destination and, in between, during this sojourn on earth, I will do my best to stay true to my essence, to always be, first and foremost, a breath of God. When I leave my bodily dwelling and return to God, I hope that I am recognized as belonging to Him, deemed worthy of His presence, welcomed home at last. Teresa Lesher

This Is Our God: Week 2Chase GardnerDescription: It's not that hard to believe that God could love us when we're at our best, but how could He possibly love us when we're at our worst? In week two of the series, Chase Gardner uses the story of the Samaritan woman at the well to show how Jesus goes out of His way to meet us in our shame. Message Notes:God is gracious and we don't need to prove ourselves. John 4:3 (ESV) Jews and Samaritans saw each other as unworthy of dignity or respect. Jesus intentionally goes to Samaria. John 4:7a (ESV) - The Samaritan woman goes to the well at a time when she knows no one will be around. John 4:7b (ESV) - Jesus speaking to this woman would have been seen as scandalous. John 4:9 (ESV) – Jesus isn't worried about what people are thinking; He just cares about this woman. John 4:10-14 (ESV) – Jesus is talking about her spiritual thirst. John 4:15-17 (ESV) – People often misinterpret that this woman is an adulterer. What if the problem Jesus was trying to fix was actually shame? Jesus is breaking every social rule to meet this woman at the epicenter of her shame. At our worst, Jesus still wants to draw near. John 4:19-26 (ESV) Jesus is the answer to receiving the forgiveness, acceptance, transformation, redemption, and unfathomable grace that you have to experience to truly believe. John 4:27-29 (ESV) The woman leaves her shame and runs to the people who have harmed her because they have no power over her anymore. Not only did God freely forgive her and love her, but He used the rest of her life in a powerful way.
