Performed by Addison Peacock, with a custom score by Nico Vettese of The Inky Pawprint.Cataclysmic environmental change has made life difficult, and new life impossible. But one woman is determined to be a mother, willing to commit atrocities and suffer agonies if it means she has a baby to call her own. Body horror, eco-horror, and the horror of unremitting envy come together in this near-future story of a world soaked in death.Warning: The Wicked Library is a horror fiction podcast created for a mature audience. Our stories contain graphic descriptions of pain, murder, violence, blood, betrayal, and inhumanity; monsters win, people die, and hope is often shattered. There is also beauty, heart, catharsis, and raw emotion. Fear may be deeply personal, but we all share it.If at any time a story takes you to a place too dark, turn on the lights, press pause, or press stop. In Spring 1918 a massive German offensive made significant territorial gains, but ultimately not the intended breakthrough, and the Allied forces stood firm. Exhausted and demoralised at the scale of casualties, the Germans were pushed back in a major counter-attack in the late Summer and Autumn. And on 26 September, the Allies launched a general offensive along the entire Western Front.Meanwhile, the Habsburg empire was fast falling apart as various nationalities declared independence. www.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Alexander Scriabin, Etude in C sharp minor. While the nations of Europe fought each other to a bitter stalemate, the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, urged both sides to make peace. However, no agreement is made and the United States joined the war on the side of the Entente allies. In the meantime, the Germans ordered a general withdrawal at the western front, abandoning the battlefields of the Somme in order to establish a shorter, straighter and more well-fortified line, the so-called ‘Hindenburg Line'. The eastern front is more volatile, seeing the collapse of the Russian army, a major defeat for the Italians at Caporetto and the fall of Jerusalem to the Britishwww.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Vaughan Williams (Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis), courtesy of musopen.orgPicture - Allenby enters Jerusalem 1917Theme tune for the podcast by Nico Vettese, www.wetalkofdreams.com Hosted on Acast. As the year 1917 dawned, Europe had been at war for two and a half years, and pressures on the home fronts were becoming intolerable. Every participant nation came under huge strain. In Russia the Tsarist regime falls in March, but the interim government is unstable and itself falls in the famous October Revolution, led by Vladimir Lenin, who promises to withdraw Russia from the war.www.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Frederich Chopin (The Polish Dancer)Picture - Vladimir Lenin, 1 May 1920 by Isaak_BrodskyTheme tune for the podcast by Nico Vettese, www.wetalkofdreams.com Hosted on Acast. Europe entered the year 1916 exhausted by one and a half years of conflict of a scale hitherto unimaginable, with profound effects on citizens at home, as well as those on the front line. The most intensive battles on the western front in 1916 are at Verdun and the Somme, with extraordinary numbers of casualties.Meanwhile, on the eastern front the Russians launch a major attack, the Brusilov offensive.Romania declared war on Austro-Hungary on 27 August 1916 and promptly invaded Transylvannia. www.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Erik Satie (Gymnopédie no. 1), Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (Russian Easter Festival Overture, Op. 36)Picture - Verdun - Gervais-Courtellemont_french_anti-aircraft_gunsTheme tune for the podcast by Nico Vettese, www.wetalkofdreams.com Hosted on Acast. For the Germans, 1915 was a year that should not have been. Their whole strategy had been based on a quick war, but they now found themselves embroiled in a two-front war – on the eastern front against Russia, and on the western front against France fully mobilised and also Britain.Throughout 1915, in a succession of attacks of increasing intensity, the various armies learned the techniques of the new kind of war at very heavy cost.In February 1915, Germany launched the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes with an attack on the Russians in East Prussia. Meanwhile, the Austrians attempted to push deep back into Galicia, with huge numbers of casualties on all sides.www.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Frederich Chopin, Mazurka in C sharp minor, Op. 6 no. 2Picture - Skoda_305_mm_Model_1911_LOC_War_of_the_NationsTheme tune for the podcast by Nico Vettese, www.wetalkofdreams.com Hosted on Acast. The first months of fighting in the First World War had seen no major breakthrough from any side. The Germans had captured about ten percent of France, and reached within sixty miles of Paris, but then reached a stalemate as both sides fortified their positions with great long lines of trenches running from Belgium to the Swiss border. Both sides attempt to bring other countries into the war to help break the stalemate and to tip the balance in their favour. The Italians, though deeply divided, decide in the end to join the side of Britain, France and Russia. The Russians strike hard against their most powerful enemy, Germany. The first main clash of the First World War was on the borders of France and Germany and in Belgium. The Belgians put up more resistance than the Germans expect. However, the Battle of the Frontiers, on the Franco-German border, from 7 August to 6 September 1914 was a disaster for the French army, who suffered very heavy casualties. Meanwhile, the British Expeditionary Force were making their way to the front. The war was set on a grim path of attritional fighting, and with both sides able to draw on millions more men it became virtually impossible to secure an easy victory. As stalemate was reached, the dreadful realisation set in that the combatants would be in this for the long haul.www.patreon.com/historyeuropewww.historyeurope.netMusic composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff (Preludes, Op. 32, Lento, in B minor)Picture - French Bayonet ChargeTheme tune for the podcast by Nico Vettese, www.wetalkofdreams.com Hosted on Acast. Clothing brand Von Dutch defined mid-2000s style, capping every celebrity they could with their signature trucker hats and motorcycle culture prints. But behind the low-rise flaming eyeballs and perfect pinstripes, disputes about ownership and management kept co-founder Bobby Vaughn on edge. In February of 2005, a homicide was linked to Bobby sending Von Dutch into a downward spiral and the victim's family on a quest for justice. The victim turned out to be Bobby's best friend and business partner, Mark Rivas. ****This is a brutal episode. Listener discretion is advised ****In April of 1973, on Friday the 13th, Elsie Ralph was at work, bartending at the Punch Bowl Tavern in the Rainbow Hill district of Worcester, England. At closing time, her husband came to pick her up and left their three young children at home with their lodger, David McGreavy. An hour later, as the couple approached their home, they were met by police, informing them that they could not enter their home. Elsie panicked and begged to know why. The police officer gravely told them, “There's been a murder.” The police would not immediately share with the couple precisely who had been murdered or the details of the crime. Elsie became hysterical, and an ambulance medic gave her a sedative. What would you be willing to do for your best friend? Tell a lie? Keep their darkest secret? Commit a crime? What if your best friend asked you to take their life? What would you do then? Trevor Bartlett and Mario Mills were best friends. On cold Wyoming nights, the pair would escape to Mills' garage to drink, smoke and play cards until they could barely stand. Most times, the worst damage was some vomit and a splitting hangover. But on the evening of March 25, 2020, the result was far different. An early morning 911 call drew police to the nondescript home in a quiet residential neighborhood. Inside the garage cops found 37-year-old Trevor Bartlett, a loving father and loyal friend, shot through the head, dead on the cold concrete floor. Was it a suicide? Murder? Or something else? On July 25th, 1980, a couple looked out the window and saw a young woman running toward their apartment. She had long blond hair, and she was covered in blood. She was also naked from the waist down with her bikini top pulled over her breasts. The man says to his wife, “If she's running like that, somebody's chasing her.” As the girl knocked on the door, Robert swung it open. “Help me,” she muttered and then collapsed onto to the porch. The couple called 911, and Robert covered her up with a sheet.Police and rescue showed up within minutes. The ambulance whisked the girl off to the hospital while police followed the blood trail across the road to the back door of the apartment on Yale. When a 25 year old Jessica McCormack and her three young daughters disappeared suddenly in July of 2019, Jessica's closest friends thought she was taking time away to decompress. They had conversations with her on Facebook while she was gone, but it soon became clear that the person on Facebook was just an imposter who'd hacked into Jessica's account. Several weeks later, Jessica's body was found on a highway in the Ozarks after apparently falling out of a suitcase that she'd been stuffed into. The shocking discovery prompted a search for Jessica's three daughters. This would mark the beginning of an ongoing fight to find answers: who killed Jessica McCormack? To report information regarding the murder of Jessica McCormack, please contact the McDonald County Sheriff's Office at (417) 223-4319, or try calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. When heading out to run errands, you fully expect to make it home safely. In June of 2007, 18-year-old Kelsey Smith went to the store, but she never made it home. No one could've predicted that less than two weeks after high school graduation, Kelsey's life would come to a violent end. Outside a Target store less than 10 minutes from her childhood home, Kelsey was forced into her car and abducted. As Johnson County detectives frantically searched for the missing teen, the community struggled to understand how something like this could've happened in broad daylight. Entering the spring of 1986, Margo McKee's story could've been ripped from a Hallmark movie. Despite losing her mother and father to cancer when she was 12, she'd blossomed into a straight-A student who attended church and volunteered around town. Her foster parents, Ross and Wyona Sterling, were satisfied they'd delivered on the promise they made to Margo's dying parents five years earlier ..that they would raise the brown-eyed girl as their own. But by summer's end, Margo would be dead ..her beaten and battered body buried in a shallow grave beneath a foot of sand, driftwood and dirt. Gone, too, was the baby inside her womb. November 12, 2013 probably started out like any other for 78-year-old Joe Gatto, who lived in a modest home in Silver Lake, California. Although Joe was retired, he was far from inactive. The energetic and talented man created artwork, jewelry and tended to his garden among other hobbies. By the evening, a day that began typically would end tragically ..with a single gunshot. Almost a decade later, loved ones still do not have answers and his murder investigation has gone cold. Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member. When Daisy De La O was fatally stabbed in her own community, her friends and family quickly honed in on a fairly obvious suspect. Her case, however, garnered no leads or public attention ..until it was posted on TikTok. It was then that true crime social media jumped in to help. Thanks to the activity on social media about Daisy's case, a suspect would eventually be identified but not before he slipped out of the area undetected. It has been said that social media can cause more harm than good for serious crime cases, but in Daisy's case the posts on social media propelled it to a much larger audience and ultimately led to an arrest. Losing a loved one to a violent crime creates a sense of loss few of us can fathom. But what if the investigation involves an entire family that simply vanishes? Could the truth become so muddled that an innocent man is pegged as their killer? When Joseph and Summer McStay, along with their two toddlers, went missing from their California home in February of 2010 no one knew what to think. Several aspects of the preceding investigation left behind a great deal of unanswered questions. Become a MURDERISH | Behind the Mic member. The suburbs have been labeled the most visible manifestation of the American dream. It's in these clean-cut bedroom communities where countless families seek refuge from the frantic hustle and bustle of city life and the crime that comes with it. But parents who flee to the suburbs trying to insulate their children from the scourge of drugs and violence frequently discover a hard truth: that crime, even murder, can take root anywhere, no matter the zip code or median income. James and Judie Farris learned this lesson in the most horrific way possible. Jimmy Farris Jr. was supposed to end up a soldier, a firefighter, or a cop like his dad. Instead, on the evening of May 22, 1995, he was pronounced dead at the age of 16, the victim of two stab wounds suffered during a 10-second brawl over marijuana. Jimmy Farris' tragic death astonished the small California community where he lived, shattering its veneer of safety and innocence. But what happened next, many would argue, was far more shocking. Danielle Drohan was in her early twenties when she married a man more than 20 years older. The age gap wasn't the unusual part, though. Her husband, Michael Redlick, had previously been her stepfather. Against all odds, their controversial and rocky marriage lasted nearly two decades. It would all come to a grinding halt on January 11, 2019. That night, after a vicious argument, Michael was found dead in their million-dollar riverfront home. Was this deadly event the culmination of years of abuse? Or did something more sinister play a role in Michael's death? When a verdict was handed down, people on both sides of the tragedy were left in shock. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami.
