Can we embrace both the acceptable and unacceptable parts of ourselves? Can we act and let go of trying to control the result? Can we hold onto both sides of each of life's great polarities, and in doing so grow in wisdom and in the possibility to contribute? And what might it take, if we did want to become like this, to faithfully practice our way in to cultivating our own goodness and capacity and supporting others around us to do the same? This week's Turning Towards Life is hosted as always by Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. Turning Towards Life, a week-by-week conversation inviting us deeply into our lives, is a live 30 minute conversation hosted by Justin Wise and Lizzie Winn of Thirdspace. Find us on FaceBook to watch live and join in the lively conversation on this episode. You can find videos of every episode, and more about the project on the Turning Towards Life website, and you can also watch and listen on Instagram, YouTube, and as a podcast on Apple, Google, Amazon Music and Spotify. Here's our source for this week: Chapter 10 – According to Our Nature Tao Te Ching, interpretation by William Martin Can we embrace both the acceptable and unacceptable parts of ourselves? Can we breathe as easily as innocent babies? Can we see the world clearly and without judgment? Can we act with loving-kindness yet remain unknown and unsung? Can we watch all things come and go, yet remain undisturbed? Can we accept our countless thoughts and opinions, yet not take them seriously? If we can do this we are acting according to the virtue that is naturally ours; nourishing all things, but possessing nothing; enjoying all things, but clinging to nothing; working diligently, but claiming credit for nothing; growing in wisdom, but controlling nothing. from freedomsimplicityandjoy.wordpress.com Photo by Omar Lopez on Unsplash

That seems unreal. But as he explained, the B-Side Players' current bassist, Omar Lopez, also plays in the Original Wailers. We happen to think he's rather good at holding down the low-end (as pointed out here in our list of 10 Best San Diego Bass Players).Karlos' had a really interesting answer for what his first album purchase was. On one hand, he has photos of himself holding an album by Los Moonlights when he was a kid. Here's more information on his father's band and an interview via La Republica. And his other first album? None other than Beastie Boys' legendary debut full-length, "Licensed to Ill." Welcome to episode 10 of ‘Happiness from Within’. In today’s episode I talk to Omar Lopez, a choreographer, yoga teacher and martial arts guru. After some years of difficulties from leaving home early, Omar started off as a backup dancer, beginning with a rap group and going on to work with celebrities such as Ricky Martin, Madonna and Usher. He now runs highly popular yoga vibe and dojo classes. Key takeaways: Martial arts allow you to work on leverage, patience and self efficiency You learn how to defeat the opponent out there, and then the opponent within Jiu Jitsu is about camaraderie and helping your partner Tough times don’t last Happiness is a journey, an education and a blessing Omar was brought up with music and martial arts. His mother played a lot of music on spirituality and did a lot of fitness. His step-dad was a martial artist, and helped Omar get started with karate, brazilian jiu jitsu, karate and capoeira. Once Omar left home, he started dancing for a rap group, and made his way up when Janet Jackson discovered his talent in the 90s. In his 20s Omar was flying around the world with celebrities, working as a backup dancer. But once he stopped dancing, he felt he had lost his identity and became a substance abuser and depressed. That’s when his girlfriend introduced him to yoga, and he instantly felt a spark. After getting his own yoga certification, he started running his own classes with his own interpretation of yoga, using different tempos and intensities. Vibe and Dojo are the two yoga classes he gives, which attract celebrities from around the world and a very full class every single time. His courage and persistence through his tough times allowed him to keep going, and be seen as someone inspiring and a visionary in his teachings.
