Professor Sharon Peacock is professor of public health and microbiology at Cambridge University. In March 2020 she set up the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) Consortium to map the genetic sequence of the virus as it spread and mutated. Within a year COG-UK was leading the world in identifying mutant COVID strains, and this data was instrumental in helping the development of vaccines and treatments. Sharon was born in Margate and left school at 16 to work in her local corner shop. She moved on to become a dental nurse the following year and after that she trained to be a nurse at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. After studying for A levels at evening classes, in 1983 she won a place to study medicine as a mature student at the University of Southampton. After further training and several years researching bacterial diseases in Thailand, she returned to the UK where she led the development of the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Initiative. Tom Service talks to conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner at his home in Dorset as he celebrates his 80th birthday later this week. His work as Artistic Director of his Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique has made him a central figure in the early music revival and a pioneer of historically informed performance. Together with the musicians from his performance groups, John Eliot Gardiner has performed and recorded repertoire which spans five centuries, from Monteverdi to Berlioz, Schutz to Schumann as well as the two composers he's especially associated with – J.S. Bach and Beethoven.

Ar pirmatskaņojumiem 25. Starptautiskajā  Garīgās mūzikas festivālā sevi piesaka arī jaunie komponisti. Kultūras rondo studijā viesojas komponisti Lauma Kazaka, Jēkabs Bernāts un Raivis Misjuns, kuru skaņdarbus interpretēs Valsts Akadēmiskais koris „Latvija” diriģenta Māra Sirmā vadībā. Daudzpusīgais mūziķis Jēkabs Bernāts pašlaik studē kordiriģēšanu Jāzepa Vītola Latvijas Mūzikas akadēmijā (JVLMA) un savu talantu apliecinājis arī kompozīcijā un dziedāšanā. Viņa skaņdarba "Creation of the World: Ovid's Four Winds" pamatā ir grieķu mīts par pasaules un cilvēka radīšanu, iedalot četrus vējus katrā debespusē. 25. Starptautiskais Garīgās mūzikas festivāls ilgs līdz 8.septembrim.
