In the age of virtual communication, here's how to ensure your messages convey what you mean.Texts. Emails. Slacks. Zooms. We're communicating in more ways than ever, but Andrew Brodsky has a word of warning: Your virtual communication might be sending messages you're not aware of.Brodsky is the author of PING: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication. And as a professor of management at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, he researches the impact of technology on workplace communication. “In virtual communication, there's often missing information,” he says. “As recipients of it, we're searching to fill in the gaps. The problem [is] that the recipient who's making these guesses is often guessing incorrectly.” As his research reveals, variables like typos, the time you schedule a meeting, and even your choice of email signature affect how your messages are received — and how you're perceived. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, host Matt Abrahams and Brodsky explore his PING framework (perspective-taking, initiative, nonverbal awareness, and goals) for mastering digital communication. From understanding when to choose email over a phone call to navigating cameras-on versus cameras-off meetings, he offers practical strategies for ensuring your virtual messages communicate exactly what you intend. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premiumEpisode Reference Links:Andrew BrodskyAndrew's Book: PingEp.31 Quick Thinks: How to Shine Online and Excel at Virtual Communication Ep.53 Step Up and Stand Out: How to Create the Right Environment for Communication Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:34) - What Is Virtual Communication? How are you seeing the states react? 9:12 - In this type of uncertain regulatory environment, what advice are you giving lenders? 10:33 - Outside of the regulatory environment for a moment, what are some of trends in litigation for lenders? Andrew Brodsky: Ping Andrew Brodsky is an award-winning professor, management consultant, and virtual communications expert at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He is an expert in workplace technology, communication, and productivity, and serves as the CEO of Ping Group. He is the author of Ping: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication*. We've all heard the well intended advice that having interactions in person is always best. And that being as close to perfect as possible is ideal. Turns out, not always. In this conversation, Andrew and I explore how adapting to the context of tough situations can help you show up in a way that's helpful for the other party and for you. Key Points In virtual interactions, what feels authentic to you may not seem authentic to the person you're interacting with. While video is best for being present, it may not be best when your underlying emotions could leak into a situation. Surface acting helps us all land with the other party more authentically. Audio only can help this land better. If using a less rich medium to communicate (i.e. email instead of a conversation) it's helpful to explain why you made that choice. People who appear perfectly competent may not be as likable. Consider surfacing blunders that aren't central to the core expertise of your work. We often default to the medium that works best for us. Consider what will land best with the other party. Madison Brodsky is an entertainment journalist with over 20,000 devoted followers across her social media platforms. The inspiring red carpet correspondent is a force both on-camera and off, but her stunning success wasn't necessarily an easy path. The small town girl started her career without a single “in” into the industry, but her love affair with the glamor of Hollywood motivated her to achieve her one in a million dream.Ever since Madison was a little girl, she always loved entertainment news. Award shows quickly became her Super Bowl, and she looked forward to getting cozy in her pajamas to watch each and every red carpet with her favorite pair of dazzling toddler heels to pretend she was interviewing whichever celebrity stepped onto her make believe stage, where a TV was conveniently placed. It may sound naive, but at that point in time, Madison didn't realize she could actually make television for a living. The job description just seemed too good to be true; so whenever an adult asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Madison always replied, “Anything that would give me the time to volunteer to hear celebrities' stories at various red carpets.” Once Madison realized she could get paid for such a career choice, she went to the University of Arizona and double majored in journalism and film and TV.In an effort to be as well-rounded as possible, Madison completed 12 internships throughout her three years at her University. Those experiences, in addition to her former position at TMZ and Entertainment Tonight, led her to become one of the most sought after red carpet correspondents in today's crowded industry. Madison excels at interviewing the stars during mega-events and she's no stranger to breaking Hollywood scoop, all while having fun with A-list celebrities, who consider her a professional friend. Our Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com* Check out Mint Mobile: https://mintmobile.com/tmf* Check out Moorings: https://moorings.com* Check out Trust & Will: https://trustandwill.com/TRAVIS* Check out Warby Parker: https://warbyparker.com/travisAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

New Hampshire Unscripted talks with the performance arts movers and shakers
The level of my ignorance revolving around the depth of talent in this state is mind boggling. We've talked a lot about many different performing arts types except for dance and so today we're correcting that oversight. Joan Brodsky and Sallie Werst, from the New Hampshire Dance Collaborative, come to the YMCA like digs of the WKXL and NH Unscripted studios to talk about the work the NHDC does. Their mission “is to make dance a more well understood, accessible and utilized art form” and they break down exactly what the heck that means. We talked about the Accelerator program, their grant making “…that not only provides financial support to dance artists but also expands opportunities for them…”, their collaboration with Canterbury Shaker Village, tKapow, the Currier Gallery of Art and the 3S Artspace just to name drop a few you may know. To date NHDC has hosted more than 20 collaborative performances throughout New Hampshire. Their Instagram account is nothing if not breathtaking. Great, great episode.
Isaac Brodsky discusses the integration of H3, an open-source hierarchical hexagonal grid system, with DuckDB, an analytical SQL database, to enhance geospatial data analysis. This combination enables efficient querying and manipulation of diverse datasets in real-time. Highlights

It takes long-term vision, patience and persistence to be successful in commercial real estate and development. Often, the ability to see or feel what nobody else envisions leads to success. That's exactly what developer and entrepreneur Peter Brodsky saw when he purchased the struggling Red Bird Mall in 2015. Almost a decade later, like a diamond in the rough, the new RedBird is thriving, as Brodsky shares with DBJ Digital Editor Alexa Reed.
