What's funny about losing your sense of smell? Before covid, hardly anyone knew what anosmia was and even now, not so many do. We refer to it more commonly as not being able to smell. It's hard to believe that some people are born without the ability to smell and that's known as congenital anosmia. So, don't ever say I don't teach you things. My guest on this episode is a congenital anosmic and she's probably one of the few people on the planet who makes talking about it hilarious. In fact, she's super funny and one of my favourite people to chat with. Meet the amazing Dia Kline! We both had a lot of fun and laughs recording this episode and we hope you will too. Dia is way more than a congenital anosmic... She's an actress, a comedian an incredible speaker and a rule breaker. She tells me that purple is her natural hair colour. I believe her. Above all else, she is a storyteller and she has some great stories to share with us.If you enjoy the show and want to know more about the wonderful Dia Kline, here's where to go:Website: https://ezjoLife.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ezjolifeLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/diaklineTwitter: https://twitter.com/ezjolifeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/ezjolife/YouTube: Dia Kline https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4DV_ckZzUfC5lXVOy8GEZANext week my guests are the incredible speaker and speaker trainer Majeed Mogharraban and funny man and host of the hilarious Partly Political Broadcast podcast show Tiernan Douieb. We're nearly there! Episode 17 zooms in on the pre-BBC fortnight. You'd have thought everything's in place by now, right? Not quite - just the tiny non-controversial matters of the licence fee and allegations of bias to deal with first. Good job they're all sorted now... We've got archive reminiscences from pioneer Peter Eckersley and the return of Newspaper Detective Andrew Barker, who also gives us an Airwave Memory (email a clip of yours for next season: paul@paulkerensa.com) We mention CenturiesofSound.com - try their 1922 mix for starters. Comedian, writer, host of the brilliant Partly Political Broadcast, and children's comedian - and a fairly new dad - Tiernan Douieb is probably the perfect guest to get into bed with. We're going to be talking about the northern lights, his travels with comedy, how children differ from adults in trying to make laugh, and why he puts a fried egg on his porridge (to which I don't think I can ever forgive him!).If you don't know what So I Start A Revolution From My Bed is about, then have a listen and join in. It's a podcast about comfort and isolation. What can we do to keep ourselves in a good place when we may find ourselves cut off from the world? We'll be talking about a lot of favourites, such as films and comfort boxsets, as well as sights and smells, but we'll also be sifting through our guests' minds to explore the nice memories which provide some sense of solace. This podcast is produced in support of the mental health charity The Calm Zone, if you need help please do seek out their website for advice or a web chat, and their helpline. If you listen to this podcast and you're able to spare a bit of change, please do consider donating to them - it all helps! So I Start A Revolution From My Bed needs to thank producer Nicky Elson, as well as John Cross, artwork by Adam Richardson, and lovely music by the guys from Jitter Jazz. It’s episode 77! Returning guests Jason and Tiernan (from the award-winning Stop and Search and Partly Political podcast respectively) are back for Jason’s choice, Stir Crazy starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. A childhood favourite (and as old as Kobi) of Jason’s that he decided to revisit and bring to the Flixwatcher team. I say team as Tiernan neglected to watch it! It’s surprisingly not racist, risky, misogynistic or homophobic as you might predict for its era, one of the other things it isn’t is funny. From the promise of Pryor, Wilder and Sidney Poitier you expect much, much more. Scores [supsystic-tables id='79'] At 1 hour AND 51 minutes is very, very long for an unfunny, ridiculous caper and this is reflected in its very low scores. Overall Stir Crazy scores 2.37, not the lowest but still quite low. For Pryor and Wilder completists only. What do you guys think? Have you seen Stir Crazy? What did you think? It’s Episode 67! Tiernan (Partly Political Broadcast) and Jason (Stop and Search) join Kobi and Helen for Tiernan’s choice the 2017 Irish comedy The Young Offenders. Jock and Connor are two best buddies on a mission to find a bale of washed up cocaine on the West Cork coast, on stolen bikes. Their paths cross with an over zealous police officer and genuinely terrifying psychopaths whilst also being a journey of friendship and sort of maturity. It’s easy to compare this with the likes of Twin Town, but The Young Offenders has lots of heart and resists the urge to go full on gross out and it makes it all the more relatable and enjoyable. Scores [supsystic-tables id='69'] The Young Offenders scores an amazing 4.85 on engagement and overall a very strong 4.25. Highly recommended! What do you guys think? http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English stand-up comedian and satirist, Tiernan Douieb. We kick off the interview with me telling Tiernan about how I sacrificed a Pavlova date to be with him and then we get into where he gets his awesome name from. Usually with the podcasts I tend to wait until towards the end before speaking about guests' podcasts, but with Tiernan I wanted to get straight into it. Tiernan has a really mighty podcast every week called Partly Political Broadcast. If you have any interested in British politics at all you should subscribe to it because it's pure mighty. He mixes satire, gags and serious topics absolutely brilliantly so it was really mighty to speak to him about the podcast. Of course, because the podcast is politically motivated we delved into British politics. We bitch about Theresa May and the Conservatives, Brexit, and the upcoming Scottish dilemma. The lies on a 'massive effing bus' gets a mention as well and Tiernan reveals exactly why he started his podcast and how it helps him to make sense of what's happening in UK politics at the minute. We talk about why voter apathy is large among young people and some of the solutions to it. Tiernan brings up Rexit, it involves robots! We chat about Tiernan's first gig, how he was so excited that he couldn't sleep even after it, he also tells me one of the jokes he did that night. We speak about him doing a comedy course and how when doing it he knew that comedy was what he wanted to do in his life. We also discuss the thin line between exaggeration and bullshit and how the best comedians thread that line.

Our next franchise is a Robert Zemeckis classic. We talk about different kinds of time travel (Rob has A Theory!), history repeating itself, and how this is a very different film on later viewing. This BFI list has some good lesser-known exponents of the time travel genre in film. Here's a short introduction to the Oedipus complex, for those unfamiliar with it. And, finally, here's a good working definition of dramatic irony, a concept that we touch on towards the end of today's episode ('GCSE Bitesize' might seem a bit of a basic resource, but it can actually be really useful). Podcasts We're supporting the ‘trypod' initiative this month (or at least we are when we remember!)
