All hail the undisputed King Of Horror! Through his dozens of novels and films, Stephen King has been scaring the pants off of the world for 6 decades, and he's still coming up with more tales of the macabre and terrible. Jesus will judge between “the living and the dead at His appearing,” when He ushers His kingdom fully into this world. That's not talking about distinguishing those who are alive physically from those who are dead naturally, but rather, those who are alive spiritually as opposed to those who are dead in their sins. Only “the living” will enter the coming kingdom. This revelation is deeper than you would expect. This episode will stir you! Dave Brisbin 4.9.23 What is the meaning of the Resurrection? Christians are all over the map, fighting and debating not so much that Jesus is risen and still lives, but how and for what purpose. Ultimately, such questions are a matter of faith, but where can we look for guidance? Scripture, of course. The gospels show us where to look, what's important to see. While we focus on the supernatural miracle, fighting over what can never be proven historically, the gospels focus on the effect the Resurrection had on Jesus' first followers—not the Resurrection event itself. This is a huge distinction. The Resurrection happens offstage, and the story picks up afterward, following the tiny, unspectacular reactions of a few of Jesus' closest friends. It tells us not to look at the miracle so much as how the miracle affects our own lives. The meaningful question isn't whether or how we believe in the miracle, but what difference it makes that we believe. What can the reactions of Jesus' friends teach us about that difference? Not one of Jesus' followers recognizes him post-Resurrection. They interact with him, sometimes for hours, as if with a stranger until an intimate and familiar gesture breaks the spell. We humans only know a person after experiencing intimate details over time, and Jesus' friends had to re-experience that intimacy to prove his identity, a process of becoming ready to see a Jesus both intimately familiar and yet wildly changed. Same with us. The meaning of Resurrection is not out there in history or theological doctrines, but within us, in the most intimate details of our lives and relationships. When the women come to the empty tomb to anoint Jesus' body, they are asked why they seek the living among the dead. Again scripture is telling us where to look. Set beliefs are snapshots—static, motionless, dead—no longer among the living. If we keep the meaning of Resurrection in our thoughts alone, Jesus is not there. Like ruha—spirit, breath, wind—Jesus is always in motion, our motion. Among the living…that's us, the living. We find the risen Lord in each face and embrace, every moment of our lives. Or not at all.

We're joined by our good friend Joseph Staub to discuss Anthrax's 4th studio album State Of Euphoria. It was considered a disappointment after Among The Living, but is it really that bad or is it an overlooked masterpiece? We also discuss if Anthrax deserves to be part of the Big Four, what made them unique among their contemporaries, and if Joey Belladonna was the secret of their success. If you dig yourself some brightly-colored, Mad Magazine thrash, this episode is for you…!!!
This episode features album reviews for Perpetual Night, Kardashev & Xaon. Retro Reviews for Anthrax's Among The Living, which turned 35 years old & Deftones' Around The Fur, which turned 25 years old this year.
Combining the literary influence of horror legend Stephen King with the ultra-groovy, ultra-speedy, and ultra-heavy thrash metal wizardry of ANTHRAX could only result in one possible (yet ever so glorious) outcome: the 1987 masterpiece, AMONG THE LIVING. The album is so mind blowing & perfect that had it been released in 1986, all other forms of “lesser” music (aka: everything NOT thrash) would have been immediately deleted and erased from all of existence (and from all multiverses) and The Big 4 would have reigned for a thousand years in peace, unity, and metal. "Look Among The Living" - Easter 2022 (Father Shawn McCain Tirres) by Resurrection Anglican South Austin

Dave Brisbin 4.17.22 It has always struck me that the gospels tell us nothing about the resurrection of Jesus. The central event around which Christianity orbits is left entirely offstage. The gospels pick up the story after the resurrection has occurred and focus not on the event itself, but the effect it has on Jesus' friends. The gospels are telling us, with their own gaze, where to look, what is important to see. What we see is that none of Jesus' closest friends recognize him when they first see him again. They watched him die. They buried him. Regardless of what he taught, they fully expected him to stay buried and stay dead. The gospels are showing us that the miracle of resurrection in our lives is not an external event, but a process of recognizing the miraculous. That we all see what we expect to see until something breaks the spell of rational limitation. We see the resurrection as a huge supernatural event as well as a huge theological truth. But in the gospels, nothing huge, supernatural, or theological breaks that spell and brings the truth of resurrection home to Jesus' friends. Just the opposite. The smallest, most intimate connections—the tone of voice calling Mary's name, the breaking of bread at the Emmaus table—tiny details seen and heard a thousand times break through to prove identity in the only way we accept. In intimacy. We only know someone when we've experienced them in intimate detail, and Jesus' friends had to re-experience that intimacy with him to prove his identity to themselves. Same with us. As long as resurrection remains huge and transcendent, it remains distant, a thought in our heads. But the moment we begin to see the risen Lord in the most intimate details of everyday life, we realize, as Jesus' friends slowly did, that we can't seek the living among the dead. Life is motion; set belief is static. We will never find our God among motionless thoughts in our heads. Only among the living. That's us, the living, the moving ones. When we're ready, we will find our risen, living God in each face we encounter and embrace or not at all.

Sermons from St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Westerville, OH to help you live faithfully as Christians in these trying times.
Scripture: Luke 24:36-24:49 The tomb is empty and Jesus is alive! The risen Jesus invites us to test the miracle of his resurrection and place our trust in what the Bible teaches. With this in mind, he sends us out in the joy of Lord to share the good news of eternal life!
Anthrax may be the butt of your jokes and memes, but for John Letzkus (No/Más) and I, they're an absolutely essential thrash metal band that helped influence us both at a young age. We're counting down a timeless record from the band that just celebrated its 35th anniversary. Among the Living is the go-to record for most die hard Anthrax fans, as well as for the general public and critics. We break it down a bit and talk about it in the grand scheme of the band's discography and of course we talk about one of the greatest guitar riffs ever in "Indians." What's your favorite song on this vital thrasherpiece?
Originally recorded at Riverbend Community Church on March 20th, 2022. Pastor Joseph Teaches through Ecclesiastes 9 and the hope in life for those who know Jesus.

At an early age, Charlie Benante had two driving passions: music and art. And he turned those childhood dreams into an amazing career. Not only has Charlie spent the better part of four decades as a musician, pounding the drums for metal legends Anthrax, he expressed his artistic nature by taking an active interest in the artwork and design of their album covers. And when the pandemic hit, he channeled his existential funk into collaborating on a series of cover songs that resulted in his new album "Silver Linings". Enjoy a strong cup of Charlie's coffee as he and Nick discuss the state of the music industry in 2021, teaching today's young women to believe in themselves, and finding love with a fellow nerd. HIGHLIGHTS: [07:30] The last time Charlie and Anthrax performed live was at the Dimebash in early 2020, right before the pandemic hit [10:14] Touring the US post-pandemic is hard enough, but the logistics and potential risks of touring overseas before the pandemic ends are even more daunting [11:19] Charlie's new release "Silver Linings" was never meant to be an actual album, it was more an effort to pull himself out of the existential dread surrounding the pandemic through his creativity [13:22] Charlie laments that the first programs cut in school budgets are music and art, things that got him through his childhood [14:38] Charlie looks back on the sad fates that befell some of the bands and artists from the early 90s [16:06] Charlie explains the process of choosing the songs he wanted to cover for "Silver Linings", songs that meant something to him at the time of their release [18:14] Charlie and his friend Andy mixed the new album, as parts were sent in from the various guest performers [18:59] Charlie worked with a ton of amazing artists on "Silver Linings", including members of Skid Row and Suicidal Tendencies [20:15] The new album is being released through Anthrax's label, on multi-colored vinyl only [20:59] Charlie was very hands-on with their record labels when it came to album art, educating himself on the importance of colors and liner notes [21:43] Charlie made sure to strike up friendships with the record label employees that he and the band interacted with, to make things operate smoothly for everyone involved [22:48] This year Anthrax is releasing the graphic novel "Among The Living", a series of comic stories loosely based on songs from their album of the same name [24:59] Charlie and his girlfriend Carla participated in an art show coordinated by "Punk Rock And Paintbrushes", who published a coffee table book based on the show [25:47] When he was a kid, Charlie channeled his love of comic books and music into a direction for his future, a future he succeeded in creating [27:16] Over ten years ago, Charlie's love of coffee led him to create his own brand and blends [30:36] Anthrax has reached a milestone in rock history, celebrating forty years as a band [31:26] Charlie and the members of Anthrax know that they're more than just a group of guys making music, they're a "gang" who are bonded for life, no matter what comes their way [33:44] Charlie holds the record labels to blame for the collapse of physical media sales in the US [35:51] Charlie loves seeing older fans bringing their kids to shows, creating a new generation of Anthrax followers [37:10] When playing live, Charlie puts the limitations of his age aside to make sure the fans hear the signature hits and have a great time [38:53] Charlie's new girlfriend Carla is just as much of a pop culture nerd as he is, the two of them spending their date nights drawing and binge-watching genre shows [40:58] One of the most radical moments in Charlie's life was the loss of his father at five, a tragedy that impacted his family for years afterward [43:30] Charlie doesn't see a hunger in the metal community anymore, that new signature sound that will revitalize the genre like Anthrax and Metallica did back in the day [49:39] Charlie looks back fondly on the 1991 tour Anthrax did with Alice In Chains, when the bands would hang out together between shows Thanks for listening!
