ALL of our friends think that we are absolutely ridiculous, that they can never “have what we have” because we literally NEVER fight, spend every second together, and are more in love today than the day we were married. I’m honestly not BS’ing you. Here’s what we learned going through pre-marital counseling, that once you see it, will change EVERYTHING about your relationship with your significant other.It all comes down to two words.Love & Respect. Now, before you close this email and say “DUH” at the top of your lungs, STOP.It’s much deeper than that. Here’s how it works ready?I’m willing to bet you every dollar I’ve ever made…That EVERY SINGLE FIGHT you’ve ever had comes down to the vicious cycle of love and respect. Every single one. Here’s the framework. If a WOMAN doesn’t feel LOVED, it’s not good.If a MAN doesn’t feel RESPECTED, it’s not good. Those two things are so universal its honestly kind of ridiculous. Now, what’s important is the way they INTERACT. It can start with either person. Let’s say the man comes home, and doesn’t show his normal level of affection to his woman. No kisses, kinda grouchy. Obviously, the woman now doesn’t feel loved. And this is where it becomes a vicious cycle.She will then, usually subconsciously, lash back out with some level of a lack of respect.It could be as subtle as her tone of voice when she snaps, “Can you at least hang up your coat?”Now, the guy doesn’t feel respected. He had a long day at work, and this woman is yipping at him as soon as he walks in the door?Oh hell no.Now, he doesn’t show her any affection for hours..He’s on his phone, being an A-Hole.She starts to pile it on in the disrespect as well… "you never do anything around here…” “don’t you care about my day..? Of course you don’t…”DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR AT ALL? HAHAHAHA I hope your mind is blown right now because mine certainly was. Here it is, mapped out for you.It really is that simple.It can start with either person, mind you, it really doesn’t matter. It’s just a vicious cycle as diagrammed perfectly above.Eventually, if you don’t break out of it, you end up not even knowing what you’re fighting about in the first place!!!So, the real question then becomes, how do you break out of it??And herein lies the secret sauce.Now, I’m a guy, so I can only speak from my side of it, but I’m sure this applies to women as well. It’s so easy it will shock you.All you have to do is..1) RECOGNIZE when you FEEL disrespected (for guys) 2) RECOGNIZE when you FEEL un-loved (for girls)3) And in that moment, do the OPPOSITE of what you would normally do. So, for guys. Instead of showing a lack of love in response to being disrespected, IMMEDIATELY go hug or kiss her.So, for ladies, instead of showing disrespect for feeling un-loved, IMMEDIATELY tell him you are proud of him or genuinely be curious about what he has been up to. That’s it.Obviously, it’s easier said than done, in the moment. HOWEVER, watching the cycle literally SNAP into a thousand pieces the second you pivot and do the opposite of what you normally do is SO SATISFYING that I PROMISE it will start to become almost like a game to you. I personally have been “winning” this game for over 3 years now and the level of happiness I’ve experienced in my marriage is honestly so insane I feel BAD for people who don’t know about this simple concept.
