Springtime brings musical renewal as hosts Matt and Sam curate twelve standout tracks spanning the contemporary music landscape. Their carefully selected mixtape captures everything from Lady Gaga's 80s-inspired dance anthem "Killa" to the tender acoustic stylings of Third Eye Blind's "Like a Lullaby," demonstrating how established artists continue evolving while staying true to their signature sounds. The mixtape delivers unexpected delights like Lexi Liu's reimagining of Le Tigre's "Decepticon," which transforms a 1999 indie classic into a fresh pop gem. Indie rock fans will appreciate the separate appearances of Boy Genius alumni Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, while Queens-based rapper Lil Tecca demonstrates remarkable talent for a 23-year-old who's been creating music since childhood. The mix finishes with a range of songs from the cathartic rage of Dinosaur Pileup to the unity message in The Lathams' "Heartbreaker." Yes, there is news to talk too - some of it huge. Like a certain huge dragon. Huge fundraisers. Huge SDCC ecto-glow announcement. Two huge properties join forces (gotta build 'em all). One huge Shredder (bro lifts). But bigger than ALL of those, is the unexpected parcel of absolute joy sent by our favourite Canadian, the one and only Colin Betts. This has to be seen (heard?) to be believed. In spite of some truely awful postage costs, comes so many gifts filled with attention to detail, insight, humor and most importantly, love. Colin - a huge thank you!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We are a couple of members down today so yes, it's a Lisa episode. Scot and Frank take the wheel to look at a new Origins reveal, some Latest Scores (where Scot goes BIG) but mainly wax on/off about the finale of Cobra Kai. Did they stick the landing or sweep the leg? How was Anthony Mackie's first solo run as Captain America? Hoe tough is it to integrate two cats into the same space? All these un-expected questions and more await! Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; we have special guest DaveyDamaged join us yet again to round out the last episode for this year. Keeping in theme with this time of year; we start things off with our Annual Kris Kringle. We keep things so secret, we forget to name the gifts themselves! Then onto the final round of Patreon Questions. The stand-out being linked to the episode art- if we where famous actors - who would we would be? From the mind of Davey: Ben- Jackie Earle Haley; Trent- Jermaine Clement; Frank- Oscar Isaac & Scot- Mark Strong. Davey is kind of left officially unanswered. Who do you think would play him? Also; please don't zoom in on the cover art as it may give you nightmares! Overall heaps of laughs. Merry Christmas to you all! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; we have special guest DaveyDamaged join us in studio to boost up the antics & derail our otherwise PG rated episode. Starting things off, Ben has a very scary - very Australian story about an uninvited guest entering his Toyroom.... Then we change gears and celebrate something exciting; the HasLab Ecto-1 Vehicle has smashed it's goal & is now a guarantee for all those that backed it! Then we get into the main segment of this episode; which is entirely made up from Patreon Questions - with specific request, to try & make them non-toy related. Yeah, this is a great opportunity to get-to-know us more, and find out how we tick. This was a really fun episode, and we hope you come out of this knowing us a bit better. Enjoy! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; instead of coming up with a witty & ground-breaking new segment; we decide to actually go back & finish off some of the older segments that we have started. So this round we each have a Top 5 selection of Heroic Toy Beasts & Vehicles that had a release in the 70's & 80's. We come up with a very diverse list; even with some questionable nominations too! Then; in keeping with this episodes theme, we look back at the Films we initially shouted out for 2024: & do a round table review on what we actually thought on them. Surprising that collectively there are many we still haven't seen! But as always, some are clear standouts over others! All this & more. Enjoy! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; Scot comes up with a new segment - taking inspiration of the Perfect style Team; built up from a bunch of elite characters. First round in this discussion is all centred round the Vintage Masters Of The Universe - Heroic Warriors! We take careful steps to narrow down our specialists; and also select an iconic Vehicle too! Then we have a welcomed gift from Morgan, with a little something for each of us. Rounding out the ep, is a very causal chat around the Silly Season. What do we each have planned, and how are we likely to celebrate?! Another fun episode. Enjoy.Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on The Toy Power Podcast, with Halloween still fresh in our minds, we invite DoesTEN back on the show to give us a great insight on how the American's Celebrate this famous Halloween event. Including some neat stories from his youth. Then keeping with that similar scarry topic, we embark on creating a Top 10 list, detailing some of the more questionable Horror Themed Toys that where marketed to Kids (pre 2000). Some of them derive from Horror Films of the same name, and others are stand-alone properties that have Horror themes. We absolutely must give Swamp Thing a shout-out too as he has been depicted in some quite mature Comicbook story lines too. WARNING: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the 2024 Hasbro/Paramount release "Transformers One " or do not mind hearing key plot points. Transformers One is an animated feature based on Hasbro's Transformers Toy Line. It is set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers and depicts the origins and early relationship of Optimus Prime and Megatron. It is not specific to any movie or TV series continuity, but rather the franchise as a whole. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. The story depicts Orion Pax and his miner friend D-16. Through a series of events both characters evolve into the Autobot and Decepticon leaders. Anthony Brucale hosts a Transformers fan site and hosts a popular Transformers podcast. His work can be found at TFU.info and includes articles and podcasts. In this episode, Brucale joins the review of this release, and compares it to previous Transformers stories. He also discusses the film's place in the timeline of the franchise.

This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Matt Teale back, to join us for another fun episode. But first, Matt would like to promote his upcoming journey in the "Shitbox Rally". Which translated into driving through Australia, across some very formidable roads. Matt & co-driver Chris aka Darstardly & Muttley, will be embarking on this journey next year, and is looking for donations, in a campaign for the Cancer Council. (Link bellow.) Then we jump into our Main Topic, which is another Best-Of-Voting crusade; this time all based around the Toy Heroes released from the 70's & 80's. We each have 5 votes each, with rules of no double-ups and no calling out the same character each from a franchise. This is another great run-down and suprisingly diverse too. With an extra voter on the pannel this round, its not suprising we have a few double-ups, but thankfully we have some secondary fall back choices. Rounding out the ep, we run out of time for a proper Latest scores chat, but there is a suprise for Frank that he opens on air. What's up, dudes? There's more than meets the eye here with illustrator and podcaster Jerzy Drozd as we talk all about Transformers UK comics Christmas issues! From Starscream to Optimus Prime, we get into all of it, and deck the halls with boughs of Hot Rod…waitasec…. Yes, it's Transformers Christmas miracle edition! In Transformers #145 from 1987, Starscream feels homesick, which shows that even evil robots can get the Christmas blues. As he ponders his plight, a young boy tries to teach him the meaning of Christmas. He encourages the Decepticon to explore emotions and actions of goodwill, even convincing him to help a bus full of elderly folks. Unfortunately, Streetwise the Autobot attacks him, thinking his intent is for ill. The boy admonishes Streetwise for his unprompted cavalier assault, and the Autobot watches helplessly as the Decepticon rescues the stuck bus. Streetwise apologizes and escorts the bus to safety, leaving Starscream ultimately to reflect on the experience. Turns out, he didn't like helping, but he thoroughly enjoyed humiliating his enemy. In Transformers #198 from 1988, a newly resurrected Optimus Prime, now a Power Master, mulls over his attachment to Earth with indifference. As he isolates himself to think, the other Power Masters see on the news a town destroyed by giant robots. Inevitably suspecting Decepticon involvement, thee heroes investigate, only to find the culprits were Autobots overindulged in Christmas shenanigans. Of course Optimus Prime finds them all, and renews there commitment to protect the citizens of Earth. Indubitably, it's a glorious day!Giant robot fights? Yep. Good versus evil? Got it. A story about nothing? Only a very Seinfeldian one!
