André growing up always had a deep appreciation for the Mini Marvel features in the Marvel Bullpen section of Marvel Comics. Now he gets to talk to the man who made it possible!Chris Giarrusso started his writing and art career as a child by replacing the text and drawings in newspaper comic strips with his own. Realizing he could skip the whiteout, he began using blank paper instead. In 1999, he created the popular Mini Marvels for Marvel Comics, writing and illustrating numerous strips and stories. He also introduced the fan-favorite character Elephant Steve and illustrated The Amazing Adventures of Nate Banks series for Scholastic. Today, Giarrusso is best known for his graphic novel series G-Man, about a young superhero with a magic cape loved by all ages. Chris talks about selling original art vs commissions, getting his start at Marvel and the evolution of his beloved all ages book G-Man!Support the show

Cartoonist Chris Giarrusso needs no introduction... but we'll give him one anyway! Rising in the ranks from lowly intern to production support in Marvel's famed bullpen, Chris' life changed when his strip Mini Marvels was chosen to grace the Bullpen Bulletins column in nearly every Marvel book. After dozens of strips, as well as one-shot stories and collections, Chris took his talents to Image, where he debuted G-Man as a backup feature in Savage Dragon. G-Man turned into a successful series of books, and Chris continued his illustrative career with Encounter in 2018 and Hashtag: Danger in 2019, among others. Now, he's teamed up with Brian "Smitty" Smith, a former colleague from the Marvel days, for Officer Clawsome, a kids graphic novel published earlier this year. You can follow Chris at his website, chrisgiarrusso.com, or on all the socials by searching his name._____________________________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Talking about improvising a story on the LIA Cast! How do you build an idea into a workable premise for a story? How do you find the details worth exploring, or the hooks that will grab an audience? This time Jerzy is joined by special guests Chris Giarrusso and Gregg Schigiel for a discussion on looking for the details or aspects of an idea that can be riffed upon to create situations that lead to stories. In episode 94 ( Season 2, Episode 44) I interviewed comic writer and artist Chris Giarusso. In this interview we talk about how Chris first got into comics, what inspired him, and how he transitioned from being a fan to creating comics. We also talk about how he got his first job at Marvel where he created Mini Marvels which has been published in several collected editions. Following this success Chris created G-Man, a story about a young super hero who gains powers when he wears a magic cape. Several stories have been written about G-Man including: The G-Man Super Journal: Awesome Origins, G-Man Learning to Fly, G-Man Cape Crisis, and G-Man Coming Home. Chris has also worked on several comic variants for The Walking Dead, Chew, and Invincible.
