In this episode of the Zinnov Podcast – Business Resilience series, Rick Crandall, a technology stalwart and author of the book, ‘The Dog Who Took Me Up A Mountain,' talks about why the leadership model of passion with purpose is key for effective leadership. Rick, after a stellar career in technology, found an unlikely partner in a dog who made him discover a new passion for mountaineering and gave him a renewed sense of purpose. At the age of 64, he started pursuing something that most thought was impossible – he scaled all 58 of 14,000 ft mountains in the Rockies. Rick shares with us his experiences – both business and mountaineering – and explains how ‘WILL' trumps ‘SKILL,' how partnerships are important, and how any problem, however complex, is not insurmountable if one has passion and purpose. This is especially relevant in today's volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous business environment, where organizations and leaders are striving to stay ahead and keep their eye on the metaphorical summit.
Rick Crandall interviewed 460th Space Wing Commander, Col. Devin Pepper, about how Buckley Air Force Base is responding to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and what access military retirees have to the base.
Is your life really over after 60 or are some of your best years still a head of you? This is what my guest Rick Crandall discusses on this episode. He believes at age 60 you still have a third of your life left and there is nothing that can't be done which he proved to be true when he started hiking fourteeners at the age 63 and has since climbed all 58 in Colorado. Tune in to hear how with software giant reached new peaks after age 60.

"They really did give us everything: freedom; freedom for our faith, everything," said Deacon Jim Doyle, referring to military veterans, including his father, who are honored at the Colorado Freedom Memorial in Aurora, Colo. There will be a special Mass there on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at an event titled, "In God We Trust." "Anybody that knows a vet should invite them to this, and especially a vet that has really turned sour on his faith," said Doyle. "Those are the folks that we want. For some reason, they've had a bad experience in the war and they're thinking that God doesn't love them anymore. So we want those women and men back." According to a description of the event, "'The Colorado Freedom Memorial in partnership with the Archdiocese of Denver will host 'In God We Trust,' a calling to all veterans to be reunited with Christ at a Special Outdoor Mass, followed by a reception where veterans can connect with others who have served and others who can help us on the journey back to faith.""Bishop Jorge Rodriguez, Auxiliary Bishop of Denver, will be the celebrant. Please bring a chair or blanket. Complimentary lunch will immediately follow. If you have additional questions, please contact Deacon Donohoe or Amy Vigil at deacon.donohoe@archden.org or amy.vigil@archden.org.'" Also interviewed on this episode of Respect Life Radio is Rick Crandall, morning show host on 1430 AM, who has a longstanding commitment to honoring veterans and is the president of the Colorado Freedom Memorial Foundation.

On New Year’s Eve 2017, as most of the Denver metro area was preparing to ring in 2018, Deputy Zack Parrish of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department was part of a team responding to a disturbance call that became an ambush. Deputy Parrish was killed and four other officers and two civilians were wounded. Within four weeks two additional Colorado Deputies would lose their lives in action. It is the largest loss of Colorado law enforcement lives in that short a time span in over 100 years. Now, several weeks later, it seems everyone has moved on after sharing Thoughts and Prayers, but what about the law enforcement community? We decided to find out in a candid conversation with men and women who are closest to it and that discussion, titled “A Blue Perspective”. We had the chance to sit with four local law enforcement leaders to share their insights. Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz; Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock; Police Psychologist Dr. Sara Garrido and Aurora Police Sgt. Mike Pitrusu give a look into department morale, how their approach to policing has changed, care of officers and their families and how the community has supported them. It seemed important to pick the conversation up and I’m crazy proud that we have an opportunity to do that here.

Listen to Rick's interview with author, Patrick O'Donnell as they talk about his new book "Washington's Immortals". Everyone you want to know and all the little extra that you don't hear. You can purchase the book HERE! In August 1776, little over a month after the Continental Congress had formally declared independence from Britain, the revolution was on the verge of a disastrous end. General George Washington found his troops outmanned and outmaneuvered at the Battle of Brooklyn. But thanks to a series of desperate charges by a single heroic regiment, famously known as the “Immortal 400,” Washington was able to evacuate his men and the nascent Continental Army lived to fight another day. Today, only a rusted metal sign near a dilapidated auto garage marks the mass grave where it is believed the bodies of the “Maryland Heroes” lie—256 men “who fell in the Battle of Brooklyn.” InWashington’s Immortals, bestselling military historian Patrick K. O’Donnell brings to life the forgotten story of these remarkable men. Known as “gentlemen of honor, family, and fortune,” they fought not just in Brooklyn, but in key battles including Trenton, Princeton, Camden, Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, and Yorktown, where their heroism changed the course of the war. Drawing on extensive original sources, from letters to diaries to pension applications, O’Donnell pieces together the stories of these brave men—their friendships, loves, defeats, and triumphs. He explores their arms and tactics, their struggles with hostile loyalists and shortages of clothing and food, their development into an elite unit, and their dogged opponents, including British General Lord Cornwallis. And through the prism of this one group, which included rich merchants, tradesmen, and free blacks, he tells the larger story of the Revolutionary War. Washington’s Immortals is gripping boots-on-the-ground history, sure to appeal to a wide readership. In August 1776, little over a month after the Continental Congress had formally declared independence from Britain, the revolution was on the verge of a disastrous end. Have you ever seen a manhole cover with little glass circles in it and wondered why it was different from the others? Did you ever imagine that there were actually tunnels under the sidewalks? You'll be surprised to find out how many cities in Colorado had these tunnels. And they're still under our streets! Those manhole covers imbedded with glass circles, many that have turned purple with age, allowed light into the tunnels below. The Tunnels Under Our Feet explores these tunnels, or what's left of them, with lively prose and interesting historical stories. Help us celebrate this Thursday, June 16th at The Fresh Fish Company with all your friends from Cruisin' 1430 AM, Farrah Tax Group and The Fresh Fish Company. Great food, good friends and great oldies! Tiffany Plaza, 7800 E Hampden Ave #54, Denver, CO 80237 They are located just west of the corner of E. Hampden Ave and S. Tamarac Drive, in the same parking lot as the Whole Foods Market. Drawings for tickets so stop by and enter to win! Note from Rick: "There is no way anyone on Earth would have imagined on Monday morning, June 17, 1991 that what they we hearing for the first time on AM 1430 would continue for 25-years. Hey, I was the thing they were hearing for the first time and I would never have predicted it!! But Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” And that morning began my discovery of why. Together over the last 25 years we have done more good, seen more things, helped more people, been more places and lived every second we had to the fullest. It was never about me, it was always about we and WE have been on one heck of a journey. I’ve opened the door and turned on the music each morning and you’ve been kind enough to let me in. I’m not sure where the road leads, but I love where it’s been. Thank you for 25 wonderful years!!!" - Rick Crandall See you there!
