In this episode of the Psych in Business podcast, Dr. Ernest Wayde delves into the world of leadership models, focusing on the transformational leadership model. Contrary to its initial perception as the opposite of transactional leadership, Dr. Wayde highlights how these models are better viewed as complementary dimensions.Drawing from the extensive work of leadership researcher Bernard Bass, Dr. Wayde explores the multi-dimensional nature of transformational and transactional leadership. He reminds listeners that transactional leadership, employs a "carrot and stick" approach, and explains transformational leadership is about motivating and inspiring employees to surpass prescribed tasks, leading to meaningful change.Key characteristics of transformational leaders include the ability to elevate others' maturity and concern for the organization, acting as role models to instigate positive change. Dr. Wayde identifies four factors integral to transformational leadership behaviors: charisma, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration.Charismatic leaders, though not necessarily transformational, can influence positive change. Inspirational motivation involves challenging followers with vivid goals aligned to a larger mission. Intellectual stimulation focuses on leaders fostering innovative problem-solving among their teams. Individual consideration emphasizes making followers feel personally coached and mentored.Dr. Wayde emphasizes the importance of communication skills in all these factors. Transformational leaders shine when change is needed, challenging individuals to take ownership, encouraging innovative problem-solving, and fostering enthusiasm. While Dr. Wayde acknowledges the importance of transactional leadership, he argues that research shows transformational leadership is more effective, especially in times of constant change. In today's turbulent business environment, leaders benefit from gaining employee commitment and loyalty, encouraging ownership, and fostering a focus on organizational success over individual success. In conclusion, Dr. Wayde emphasizes that most leaders can exhibit traits of both transformational and transactional styles, highlighting their complementary nature. This insightful episode provides a nuanced understanding of leadership models and their application in the dynamic landscape of business and organizations. You can visit his business website at: https://www.waydeconsulting.com/
In this episode of the Psych in Business podcast, your host, Dr. Ernest Wayde discusses the concept of transactional leadership, a model that emphasizes structured and ordered approaches to leadership and management. Dr. Wayde explains that transactional leaders are characterized by their honesty, fairness, responsibility, and commitment to honoring agreements. The transactional leadership model operates on a give-and-take basis, where employees receive rewards, such as money, in exchange for their services.Transactional leaders focus on short-term goals, relying on specific guidelines and policies to accomplish tasks. They set clear expectations for employees and reward them for meeting these expectations, while reprimanding them for deviations. This leadership style, rooted in the 1940s research of German sociologist Max Weber, emphasizes control based on knowledge and follows a bureaucratic, hierarchical structure.Dr. Wayde highlights that transactional leadership is best suited for environments where stability, continuity, and strict adherence to rules and procedures are crucial, such as in the military, policing, and manufacturing. Notable examples of transactional leaders include Steve Jobs, Bill Belichick, and Bill Gates, who implemented this approach successfully in their respective fields. While transactional leadership may not encourage innovation or personal initiatives, Dr. Wayde emphasizes its effectiveness in specific contexts. He concludes by inviting listeners to tune in next time, where he will explore other leadership styles in comparison to the transactional model. My guest Jing Johnson shares how she built a successful business based on uplifting others and providing support Be receptive to your clients and how you can serve them- they notice how you make them feel We stay stuck because we worked so hard to get where we are and pay our dues that we want the payoff. Instead, a bigger payoff can come from realizing that success can come in a different way. Open yourself up to the ease and grace of going down a career path that feels good to you. Be the example of the culture you want to have. Others are watching what you do, because it matters more than what you say. Live your core values and highlight how your team is implementing them. Leaders often struggle when leading organizations in the hybrid-virtual working environment. Team members get less engaged because leaders unknowingly fall into the trap of micromanaging in virtual situations. With that being said, leaders should take into consideration the underlying emotions and psychology of team members and not treat them like a replaceable cog in the machine. In today's podcast episode, we interview Eleni Pallas, Executive coach and Champion of Human-Centric Leading of Leaders For Good. Today's topics are locked-in on the 5 lenses of the Human-Centric Leadership Model which are: mindset, context, emotions, needs, and wisdom which will greatly help manage team members as they Team Anywhere.Read the Full Summary HERE!

EPISODE SUMMARY When examining the multidisciplinary team response to child abuse in communities, there are two principles that I believe to must be considered. The first is that MDT's are sophisticated and complex systems that are tasked with providing a coordinated and comprehensive response to child abuse. The second is that no single discipline on an MDT can adequately meet the needs of a victim of child abuse. One would think that such a system tasked with such an important mandate would have a clear leadership structure to ensure that the best possible services are being provided. However, that is not always the case. In this episode, I speak with Chris Newlin, the Executive Director of the National Children's Advocacy Center who shares with us a conceptual model of multilevel shared leadership for MDTs that provides a framework and pathway to more robust and sustainable MDT response to child abuse in your community. GUEST: Chris Newlin, MS LPC, is the Executive Director of the National Children's Advocacy Center where he is responsible for providing leadership and management of the NCAC and participating in national and international training and leadership activities regarding the protection of children. The NCAC was the first Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) in the world and provides child abuse prevention and intervention services in Huntsville/Madison County; and also houses the NCAC Training Center, the Southern Regional Children's Advocacy Center, the NCAC Virtual Training Center, and the Child Abuse Library Online (CALiO™). The NCAC is a past multi-year winner of the Better Business Bureau's Torch Award for Workplace Ethics; 2012 Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year; 2016 Federal Bureau of Investigation Director's Community Leadership Award recipient; (multi-year finalist), winner in 2016 and 2019 of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Best Places to Work; and a Private Sector Member of the Virtual Global Taskforce. Chris has more than 22 years of experience working in CACs as a Forensic Interviewer, Victim Advocate, Therapist, Clinical Director, and Executive Director. Chris has provided diverse training related to the Children's Advocacy Center Model, the multidisciplinary response to child abuse, the international development of Children's Advocacy Centers, forensic interviewing, best practices in child abuse intervention and response, and additional child maltreatment and exploitation topics in more than 30 countries throughout the world. He has worked in both urban and rural Children's Advocacy Centers. Chris received his Master's in School Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and has completed coursework at the Harvard University Business School Executive Education Program. I'm helping other people succeed. But how do I know if I succeeded?”Matt: “It's actually quite meaningful for a coach, I think, to be able to say, ‘ ‘Alright, here's the quantified value of what I've helped me this to do. In this episode, Bob'nJoyce look at leadership through the lens of an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur wears many hats and must surround themselves with people who possess skills and knowledge they lack. They must move fast and correct quickly knowing that everything is on the line. They pay attention to the culture from the perspective of what the employee experience must be to deliver the customer experience they desire. The three key critical roles of an entrepreneur are: * Attracting great talent * Running the business * Cultivating the culture While there are many complex leadership models, sometimes simplicity works. Come on in. Grab a snack. Welcome!
