Tarina launches with a question for Nic: “Can you help me improve?” Nic immediately knows it's a trap—and he questions whether to take the bait, which he does. In this episode, Nic and Tarina talk about the third Proof of Leadership: Model. They take the idea of leading by example further—giving substance to the practice of modeling the behavior you want to see in others. The question they ask themselves: If we aren't leading by example, then what happens to our influence? Modeling is a discipline not just a skill. You have to develop the capacity to do the hard things, whether it's strapping on the tool belt or doing the paperwork. The easy thing is to just send an email or schedule a Zoom call. The hard thing is to go to the job site, pull on your steel-toe boots, the hardhat, and look at the crusty sheet metal workers in the eye. Behavior is communication and doing the hard thing builds trust over time. Nic shares a story about how to model the communication you want to see. He concludes, “Just because information is bad doesn't give you permission not to communicate it.” If you enjoy Nic and Tarina's podcast and get something from listening to “all this Nic Bittle Crap,” please hit the like button, share it with a friend, or both. In the current state of the world, we have all the information we could need at our fingertips—AI, ChatGPT, and automation are providing answers faster than we can come up with questions. But what's missing is context, meaning, and human connection. In this episode, I explore what the world is truly missing—and how transformational coaching and emotional intelligence in leadership can help fill the void. Because while we're flooded with knowledge, we're starving for wisdom, depth, and integration. We're experiencing a constant cognitive overload that still leaves us longing for clarity and purpose. If information alone were enough, we'd all have the perfect body, bank account, relationships, and self-esteem. Everybody would feel at peace and achieve all their dreams. But transformation requires more than knowledge. It requires you—your presence, your leadership, your ability to bring the human element back to the world.Today, we'll discuss how you can create a life and leadership model not based on all-knowing perfection, but on presence and authenticity. We are in a moment of global transition. There are huge transformations happening all around us, and if you have felt called to lead, coach, and help others grow, you might be the exact kind of person the world is waiting for. In this episode of the Psych in Business podcast, Dr. Ernest Wayde delves into the world of leadership models, focusing on the transformational leadership model. Contrary to its initial perception as the opposite of transactional leadership, Dr. Wayde highlights how these models are better viewed as complementary dimensions.Drawing from the extensive work of leadership researcher Bernard Bass, Dr. Wayde explores the multi-dimensional nature of transformational and transactional leadership. He reminds listeners that transactional leadership, employs a "carrot and stick" approach, and explains transformational leadership is about motivating and inspiring employees to surpass prescribed tasks, leading to meaningful change.Key characteristics of transformational leaders include the ability to elevate others' maturity and concern for the organization, acting as role models to instigate positive change. Dr. Wayde identifies four factors integral to transformational leadership behaviors: charisma, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration.Charismatic leaders, though not necessarily transformational, can influence positive change. Inspirational motivation involves challenging followers with vivid goals aligned to a larger mission. Intellectual stimulation focuses on leaders fostering innovative problem-solving among their teams. Individual consideration emphasizes making followers feel personally coached and mentored.Dr. Wayde emphasizes the importance of communication skills in all these factors. Transformational leaders shine when change is needed, challenging individuals to take ownership, encouraging innovative problem-solving, and fostering enthusiasm. While Dr. Wayde acknowledges the importance of transactional leadership, he argues that research shows transformational leadership is more effective, especially in times of constant change. In today's turbulent business environment, leaders benefit from gaining employee commitment and loyalty, encouraging ownership, and fostering a focus on organizational success over individual success. In conclusion, Dr. Wayde emphasizes that most leaders can exhibit traits of both transformational and transactional styles, highlighting their complementary nature. This insightful episode provides a nuanced understanding of leadership models and their application in the dynamic landscape of business and organizations. You can visit his business website at: https://www.waydeconsulting.com/

In this episode of the Psych in Business podcast, your host, Dr. Ernest Wayde discusses the concept of transactional leadership, a model that emphasizes structured and ordered approaches to leadership and management. Dr. Wayde explains that transactional leaders are characterized by their honesty, fairness, responsibility, and commitment to honoring agreements. The transactional leadership model operates on a give-and-take basis, where employees receive rewards, such as money, in exchange for their services.Transactional leaders focus on short-term goals, relying on specific guidelines and policies to accomplish tasks. They set clear expectations for employees and reward them for meeting these expectations, while reprimanding them for deviations. This leadership style, rooted in the 1940s research of German sociologist Max Weber, emphasizes control based on knowledge and follows a bureaucratic, hierarchical structure.Dr. Wayde highlights that transactional leadership is best suited for environments where stability, continuity, and strict adherence to rules and procedures are crucial, such as in the military, policing, and manufacturing. Notable examples of transactional leaders include Steve Jobs, Bill Belichick, and Bill Gates, who implemented this approach successfully in their respective fields. While transactional leadership may not encourage innovation or personal initiatives, Dr. Wayde emphasizes its effectiveness in specific contexts. He concludes by inviting listeners to tune in next time, where he will explore other leadership styles in comparison to the transactional model. My guest Jing Johnson shares how she built a successful business based on uplifting others and providing support Be receptive to your clients and how you can serve them- they notice how you make them feel We stay stuck because we worked so hard to get where we are and pay our dues that we want the payoff. Instead, a bigger payoff can come from realizing that success can come in a different way. Open yourself up to the ease and grace of going down a career path that feels good to you. Be the example of the culture you want to have. Others are watching what you do, because it matters more than what you say. Live your core values and highlight how your team is implementing them. It's easy to have trust when things are going well, but it's more important to cultivate it when they are not by being a supportive leader. Ep #136 - In today's podcast episode, I'm joined by Brett Gilliland, the founder and CEO of Elite Entrepreneurs, a company that specializes in giving $1M+ business owners the knowledge, processes, and tools to grow to $10M and beyond. Brett is an expert in organization development, leadership, and strategy - and spent 10 years helping Infusionsoft, now known as Keap, to grow from $7M in revenue to over $100M. Brett was involved in the foundational work of Purpose, Values, and Mission at Infusionsoft and facilitated the strategic planning process for many years. One of Brett's favorite professional accomplishments is co-creating Infusionsoft's Elite Forum along with Clate Mask and building the Elite business inside of Infusionsoft. As the leader of the Elite business, Brett has helped hundreds of struggling seven-figure business owners overcome their biggest challenges and achieve new levels of success. He also played a central role in the development of Infusionsoft's Leadership Model and was serving as the VP of Leadership Development when the decision was made to spin the Elite business out of Infusionsoft.   Learn More About Brett Gililand and Elite Entrepreneurs: Visit the Elite Entrepreneurs website at: https://growwithelite.com/ Connect with Brett Gililand on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/built2lastchamp/   Also, please remember to subscribe, rate, and leave a written review for the show if you find value in it.
