In this powerful interview, we hear from Jay Harvey, Director of Prison Ministry for Life Without Limbs. Jay shares his inspiring journey of how the Lord led him into prison ministry, and how he has seen the ministry evolve over the years. With experience working with the fastest-growing demographics behind bars, women and juveniles, Jay sheds light on the challenges faced by inmates and the need for fathers in their lives. The Life Without Limbs Prison Ministry's goal is to plant churches inside prisons. Jay shares the success they've seen with the discipleship programs, Free in My Faith and Staying Free, and how they identify and equip leaders to start a church. When men and women are released from prison, Jay discusses the challenges they face and how we, as the Body of Christ, can help them know they are accepted. Jay also shares his personal learnings from countless testimonies of men and women who have found hope and purpose behind bars. He addresses some of the blind spots Christians have when doing prison ministry and shares some good things to keep in mind when sharing the gospel behind bars.

Stewart and Cooper fought for emancipation and women's rights by "scripturalizing," or using religious scriptures to engage in political debate. Owens then demonstrates how Jordan built upon this tradition by treating the Constitution as an American "scripture" to advocate for racial justice and gender equality. Case studies of key speeches throughout Jordan's career show how she quoted the Constitution and other founding documents as sacred texts, used them as sociolinguistic resources, and employed a discursive rhetorical strategy of indirection known as "signifying on scriptures." Barbara C. Jordan (1936-1996) was born in Houston, Texas in 1936. Her father was a Baptist minister and her mother was a domestic worker. In high school and college, Jordan displayed extraordinary orating and debating skills. She graduated at the top of her class at Texas Southern University and went on to earn a law degree from Boston University. Jordan began her distinguished public service career in 1966 when she was elected to the Texas State Senate. She became the first African American elected to that body since 1883. In 1972, she became the first African American woman from the South to be elected to the United States Congress, where she served as a member of the House of Representatives until 1979. The highlights of Jordan's career include her landmark speech during Richard Nixon's impeachment hearings in 1974, her successful efforts in 1975 to expand the Voting Rights Act to include language minorities, and her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 1976. She was the first African American woman to deliver that address. From 1979 until her death in 1996, Jordan served as distinguished professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. When others bow, I will stand up for MY PURPOSE. I refuse to SETTLE for anything less than God's BEST for my life. I Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. When others bow, I am going to stand up for MY COMMUNITY. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.
