Lately, as we have gotten older and our preferences have changed, we have been wondering, "What is fun?" Robin Gelfenbien, the self-proclaimed Ambassador of Fun, is the perfect person to answer that question. Right out of college, Robin was chosen out of thousands of people to drive the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile, and her experience provided excellent fodder for her acclaimed solo show "My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey”. She has had several other fun jobs from creator and producer of the storytelling series and podcast "Yum's the Word" to co-hosting the podcast "Hello Menopause" to producing Isaac Mizrahi's podcast "Hello Isaac". Robin inspires us with her stories of involving strangers in all kinds of fun, but we also talk about things like thinning hair and anxiety, two very common and un-fun symptoms of perimenopause. If you are like us and are re-defining your definition of fun (there is nothing wrong with skipping that party!), this episode is for you. A Classic RISK! episode from our first two years! In our twenty fourth episode, Christian Finnegan, Robin Gelfenbien, Jim OGrady and Marc Charbonnet tell true tales of the green eyed monster. Christian Finnegan pays respects to his older brother, a pillar of the LARPing community. Robin Gelfenbien goes back to Deadwood and rubs it in the nose of her grumpy old high school musical director. Jim O'Grady makes friends with some colorful characters in the days the Bronx was on fire. And Marc Charbonnet finds a way to leave penis envy behind. Comedy duo Rue Brutalia go to the ballgame and musical maestro Ergo Phizmiz bestows upon us a proper British opera in 120 seconds. Robin Gelfenbien is the self-proclaimed Ambassador of Fun who's a comedian, writer, and host. Robin is a three-time Moth Story SLAM winner who has performed on PBS, RISK!, Mortified, and countless other shows. She’s also shared the stage with Hannah Gadsby, Trevor Noah, and more. She is the Creator and Host of the storytelling series and podcast, “Yum’s the Word,” that features her homemade ice cream cakes. The show has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning and named a New York Times and Time Out New York Critic’s Pick. Guests have included Tim Gunn, Mo Rocca, Jerry from Ben & Jerry's, Jason Biggs, Joy Behar, and stars from “Orange Is the New Black.” She used to drive the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. :) In 2000, She was living in San Francisco with her best friend, Kristen, who was juggling four guys while she could barely get one. She had been hanging out with a cyclist (Ted) for about a month but hadn't heard from him in a few weeks, so when another guy (Rick) asked her to go on a bike ride, she jumped at the chance. Everything is going great on her first date (bike ride) with Rick when on the return, Ted is riding alongside her. Next thing she knows the three of them are riding together on what's supposed to be a romantic bike ride for Rick and her. They end up riding ahead of her agreeing to meet her at the bridge, and she ends up getting lost (no cell phone, no GPS) and hitching a ride back on a flatbed truck carrying 8 port-a-potties. She is hopeful that at least one of them would be waiting for her at the bridge. One guy does – Rick, but she winds up in the friend zone with him and not getting either guy. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/revisionarypodcast/support

I virtually met the wonderful and talented Ambassador of Fun, Robin Gelfenbien during the COVID-19 shut-down. She’s a New York based comedian, storyteller, podcaster, writer, producer and coach. She was a delightful and effortless guest, talking about storytelling and the yummy ice cream cakes she makes for her in-person New York show “Yums The Word”. She is fearless, with balls of steel, when it comes to getting famous guests to come on her shows, such as Tim Gunn from Project Runway. She also sings for me – something I avoid at all costs – a funny little ditty called “Jesus Steals my Thunder” because her birthday is the day after Christmas (Boxing Day to us Brits!) … with a last line to watch for! She talks about the time she shared the stage with Hannah Gadsby and then finishes with a funny story which restored her faith in humanity at a low time in her life. I could have talked for hours so I hope to have Robin on again in the future.
