No Border Blues Episode 5: For the last 25 years, Sweden's Trickbag has been playing their brand of houserockin' rhythm and blues. Trickbag has become a top European blues festival attraction by virtue of their consistently rockin' live shows, great songs (spanning eight CDs), clever band branding and of course, LOTS of hard work and persistence. Trickbag has also been in high demand as a back-up band for touring American and European blues artists including John Primer, Jr. Watson, Barrelhouse Chuck, John Nemeth, Kid Ramos, George Sueref, Lynwood Slim and many others. Their "Trickbag with Friends" Volumes 1 and 2 feature collaborators such as Kim Wilson, RJ Mischo, Rusty Zinn, Aki Kumar (who's interviewed in No Border Blues Episode 2) and James Harmon. Check out this chat with Trickbag founder and vocalist Tommy Moberg and longtime bassist and music business partner Lars Nasman about their musical journey. Couch Kid New Music Harpdog Brown returns to The Couch for his third visit. This time he returns to share stories around the recording of Travelin With The Blues, which includes appearances by folks like Charlie Musselwhite, Kid Andersen, Rusty Zinn and more. Pierre Lacocque from Mississippi Heat takes a seat for the fourth time, he is one of my original kids first sitting on The Couch back in 2010 and returning in 2012 and then in 2014. This time it is to discuss the new release, Cab Driving Man. It’s always a blast with Pierre. Teresa James was scheduled a few weeks back, but fell ill…So we rescheduled to bring her back for her second visit. She returns to The Couch with her new album, Bonafide. It will be fun to catch up with this talented vocalist and learn what has been happening in her life and the recording of this new album. The Jimmys went to Transylvania to record a live album, and the results are fantastic. Jimmy Voegeli and I will sit and talk about all the adventures the band has has since his first visit in November 2015.

With quite a few new blues tracks, a little more live blues than usual and a set that focuses on a real staple instrument of the blues, this edition shakes out as interesting, for sure. Rusty Zinn, John Mooney, Mike Zito, Elvin Bishop, and Eddie Cotton all lie within earshot of the hour and help provide the definition of the 494th Roadhouse - another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

Support the blues on the Web by visiting the Blues Foundation site, the Delta Blues Museum site, and by listening to the DBM's top-notch (and free) podcast, Uncensored History of the Blues. To enjoy podcasts, including Murphy's Saloon, away from your computer, you do not have to own an iPod: check out No iPod Required for more information. The Smackieville Squire designed the Murphy's logo and recorded the Murphy's Saloon Disclaimer. If you like the Murphy's logo, he'd probably make one for you, just send me an email. Please note: Yeah, I know, I was going to take down my older shows. I reconsidered. Unless you really want to hear a work in progress, you can skip the first 10-15 episodes with a clear conscience. Really.
