After bursting onto the scene in 2016 by releasing leaked videos of apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints privately discussing a range of topics — from politics and piracy to same-sex marriage and marijuana — Ryan McKnight, with help from his colleague Ethan Gregory Dodge, set up a website called MormonLeaks, which gave way to the Truth & Transparency Foundation, and began exposing the inner workings of the Utah-based faith and, eventually, other religions. Their goal: Push churches to be more open and honest about their practices. They revealed how much top Latter-day Saint leaders were paid. They uncovered headline-grabbing abuse allegations. And they showed slices of how much wealth the LDS Church was accumulating. Now, they're shutting down but with one last big scoop: the widest and deepest look ever at the church's vast U.S. real estate holdings, totaling 1.7 million acres and making the faith the nation's fifth largest private landowner. On this week's show, McKnight and Dodge discuss their latest findings, the work of their foundation, what it accomplished, why they're closing shop and whether they achieved what they set out to do. We want to hear from you! Take our survey here: bit.ly/mormonland
We are back to talk about the Little League World Series, Colorado state Football game and the impact JFPA is making on the football program with special guest Ryan McKnight. In this episode we had Ryan Mcknight on to explan the ex-mormon community.
After tackling topics like cultural moray, the role of women in the LDS faith, and why Utah is rife with MLM's in part one, Ryan and I dive into "Big Pyramid", Mitt Romney's connections to MLM, the affinity fraud of Tahitian Noni Juice, the obsession of outrageous health claims and essential oils from a religious standpoint, and where your tithing really goes. Originally founded as Mormon Leaks, http://www.truthandtransparency.org is the brainchild of Ethan Dodge and Ryan McKnight...in an attempt to empower whistleblowers and reveal problematic people and practices within religious organizations. The founders join Seth Andrews for a conversation about their work.
On a recent podcast, Ex-Mormon Ryan McKnight said (I'm paraphrasing): "Nobody's gonna leave [the Church] over this...Probably" Commenting on the recent Washington Post leak "Mormon Church has misled members on $100 billion", Ryan McKnight believes that the whistleblower allegations of fraud and tax evasion are incorrect and a distraction from members having a serious conversations about the Church's financial transparency. In this episode, we discuss the allegations against the Church, our frustration with members and non-members' responses, and our views on whether the Church should be more open about their finances to its members. BRING. BACK. BIG BEAT. It’s the Defend This Genre episode. Marleah and James talk about The Crystal Method (with Lauren Flax and Ryan McKnight) show they saw on 10/11/19 at Warsaw…with special guest, Hillary! Marleah LOVES big beat, which in her mind is just the polar opposite of dance punk: instead of dance infused rock music, it’s rock infused dance music (this is why they’re Mar’s two favorite genres, because they don’t make her choose). James explains just how big beat qualifies as “upper” music, and which drugs might hypothetically pair well with that (he also gets “offended”, which he’ll take to our Twitter). Hillary expounds upon the analogy of house vs. big beat, with body surfing vs. combatting post-hurricane ocean currents (just listen. It’ll make sense). All agree that this idea that all of EDM music is basic and boring is complete horseshit, because if you really give a listen (to some subgenres anyway, such as, ahem, BIG BEAT), you can find a fair amount of layering and complexities (Marleah can give plenty of examples, just ask). Students from Central Washington University and pianist Dawn Clement performed in our Seattle studios for a special School of Jazz performance. Bassist Domi Edson arranged the first tune, a lively fun rendition of Chick Corea’s “Spain.” She said she has most of her ideas for arrangements at night when trying to fall asleep. It was fun watching Owen Evans, Ryan McKnight and Henry Sparks trading solos on the alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and trombone. Next, they played “Dance A Little Mandezza” by Renee’ McClaine. Alto saxophonist Owen Evans did this arrangement. The group ended with a boozy bluesy rendition of “Driftin’” by Herbie Hancock with an arrangement for Domi Edson.

Raised by a Methodist preacher and learned in all things anti-Mormon, Thomas Sharp’s paper will become an interesting source of Mormon history moving forward through our timeline. After that, Jo gathers the entire Mormon population on the highest hill in town in a grand spectacle to dedicate the plot for the Nauvoo Temple, complete with the Nauvoo Legion parading around town in uniform and thousands of spectators. On this episode, we take a look at the avalanche of acts and ordinances that were being passed in Nauvoo to establish some semblance of a real operating city. Joseph Smith and his favored elites had a lot of work to do and were in the process of forming new committee and organizations on a daily basis to answer the myriad needs of the burgeoning community. Once again, we find speculation to be the sole ruling factor in the formation of any Nauvoo business or agency. Jo even passed an act against intolerant speech against people of faith, we can’t have those atheists building a church in Nauvoo now, can we? After that we’ll get into part 2 of my conversation with Jack Naneek of the Mormon Awakenings podcast, where we really discuss some hard issues with the church’s stance on LGBTQ+ people and the value churches give society. On this episode, we jump right in to adding an incredible well of depth to the character of Joseph Smith by reading a number of excerpts from William Morain’s “The Sword of Laban, Joseph Smith and the Dissociated Mind”. The excruciating pain from his childhood leg surgery coupled with the death of his eldest brother in his late teens had significant impacts on Jo’s psyche, baggage he would carry for the rest of his life. Maybe we can understand the inner-workings of a broken mind by viewing decisions Jo made through child’s eyes. Jo calls the Quorum of the Twelve home from their mission in England but permits Parley P. Pratt (P-cubed) to tarry a bit longer to continue his publishing duties with the Liverpool Book of Mormon and the Millennial Star. The economic outlook for Nauvoo looked good on the surface at the end of 1840, but the whole thing was built on credit and there was a jobs vacuum affecting every Mormon who chose to settle roundabout. After that we invite recurring correspondent, Ryan McKnight, for a Mormon Leaks Minute before dealing with some listener feedback. On this episode, we bid farewell to some prominent members of the Mormon church as so many were perishing due to famine and resulting sickness. Joseph Smith Sr., Big Daddy Cheese as we know him, imparts blessings on his wife and children as the darkness begins to close in. After that, we catch up with Bloody Brigham and the quorum of the Twelve on their incredibly successful mission to England, where Brigham was getting a feel for what it was like to run his own religion. Later we’ll bring on Ryan McKnight for a Mormon Leaks Minute about church leaks featuring Denver Snuffer and a huge document of sex abuse allegations raised against the church. It’s not a happy episode today… Links: Times and Seasons Vol 1 http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm/ref/collection/NCMP1820-1846/id/9373 Mormon Leaks: RadioWest Denver Snuffer by Doug Fabrizio http://radiowest.kuer.org/post/denver-snuffer-and-remnant-movement Snuffer leaks https://mormonleaks.io/wiki/index.php?title=Denver_Snuffer#August_22.2C_2017 Instances of Child Sexual Abuse by Member of LDS church https://mormonleaks.io/wiki/documents/6/60/INSTANCES_OF_CHILD_SEXUAL_ABUSE_ALLEGEDLY_PERPETRATED_BY_MEMBERS_OF_THE_CHURCH_OF_JESUS_CHRIST_OF_LATTER-DAY_SAINTS-2017-06.pdf Show Links: Website http://nakedmormonismpodcast.com Twitter @NakedMormonism Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Naked-Mormonism/370003839816311 Patreon http://patreon.com/nakedmormonism Music by Jason Comeau http://aloststateofmind.com/ Show Artwork http://weirdmormonshit.com/ Legal Counsel http://patorrez.com/ Voicemail Line (864)Nake-dMo (625-3366)
On this week’s episode, we cover the first 3 months of 1840 when Jo met with the United States Congressional committee to petition them for redress for what the Saints had suffered in Missouri. The meeting met every day over a week’s time and increasingly became more skeptical with each day of discussion with Jo. Finally, a resident of Missouri makes it to the meeting to give his side of the conflict and the committee resolves that Missouri should handle Missouri’s problems. After that we have a bit of a longer Mormon Leaks Minute segment with correspondent, Ryan McKnight, to discuss a treasure trove of 37 leaked documents from Bruce McConkie’s unpublished personal writings. Patrons get an extra segment discussing McConkie’s hatred of evolution. On this episode, we attempt to get to the bottom of all these Mormon document leaks as of late. We have a discussion with Ryan McKnight, /u/FearlessFixxer and founder of MormonLeaks, covering some of the recent leaks released by the leak project. We conclude our discussion with whether or not we can trust sources leaked anonymously from a source that claims to “have a vetting process”. Ryan stands by every document released; it may be best to skepticize them for the time being. This past week saw the launch of a website called MormonLeaks (formerly Mormon Wikileaks), a "safe, secure, and anonymous way to submit documents, videos, or any other information regarding the Church." The site was created by Ryan McKnight, a former Mormon. I spoke with Ryan about why he left the Mormon Church, why he hopes to achieve by exposing the Church's secrets, and what the ultimate secret would be.
This week in the Law School Insider we had the pleasure of interviewing alumnus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, Ryan McKnight who acts as general counsel for Avasure. As a company Avasure develops, markets and deploys technology and educational tools that support the nursing profession in improving its practice environment. Ryan McKnight works in all aspects of legal oversight for the company, but this is not where he started his career, nor is it where he thought he would end up.
