The podcast content may contain sensitive topics.Listener discretion is advised.A story broke recently that should shake every parent totheir core. In Southern California, the Riverside County Child Exploitation Team identified 500 suspects and arrested 42 individuals in a massive child‑exploitation sting called Operation Volcano. The alleged offenders weren't the “monsters in the shadows” we imagine. They allegedly included a child psychologist, an ex–law enforcement employee, a hospital CTO, and two corporate vice presidents. The very people families are taught to trust. On this episode of the Protect & Prevent Podcast (P3Kids), Opal Singleton Hendershot of MillionKids.org, one of the leading voices in keeping kids safe from predators, talks about CSAM (previously called “child pornography,”) and how technology has supercharged it into a global, industrial‑scale criminal economy. Today, predators can access, trade, and sell images ofminors through dark‑net markets, bulletproof hosting sites, and peer‑to‑peer networks with terrifying ease. One global CSAM ring had over 1.6 million paid subscribers. Most parents have no idea how quickly a predator can groom a young person, obtain illicit images, and funnel them into these networks or how those images are used, multiplied, and monetized forever. This episode pulls back the curtain. We look at how CSAM has evolved from isolated crimes toglobal, tech‑driven criminal enterprises, the technologies predators now rely on, who these offenders really are and why they collect thousands of images from minors and what actually happens to a photo once a predator gets it.We'll also discuss how to talk to your child so theyunderstand the real‑world consequences and what to do immediately if you suspect your child is a victim of CSAM, sextortion, or a deepfake.Parents can't protect their kids from a threat they don'tunderstand. This episode gives families the clarity, language, and action steps they need to navigate one of the most urgent dangers facing young people today. 1. Purpose of Trey’s Law Federal legislation introduced to prohibit Non‑Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) from silencing child victims of sexual abuse. Ensures victims cannot be legally barred from speaking about their own abuse. Victims may choose confidentiality, but it cannot be forced on them. 2. The Story Behind the Law Trey was abused for years at a Missouri summer camp. As an adult, during civil litigation, he was pressured to sign an NDA, which deeply harmed his ability to heal. Trey died by suicide at age 28. His sister, Elizabeth Phillips, has become a leading national advocate, pushing to change the law so no child experiences this again. 3. Widespread Problem of NDAs in Child Abuse Cases Across the country, predators and institutions use NDAs to: Silence victims. Protect institutions from reputational damage. Delay exposure long enough for statutes of limitations to expire. Children often do not disclose abuse until decades later due to delayed disclosure, grooming, and shame. 4. Systemic Issues at Certain Institutions Kanakuk Kamps (Missouri) highlighted as a major example: Numerous allegations and confirmed cases of abuse over decades. Accusations of institutional cover‑ups, pressure on victims, and secrecy agreements. Advocacy groups maintain public databases of known or alleged abusers. She described being pressured by both her abuser and her own attorney to sign an NDA. Her testimony emphasized the power shift that occurs when victims know they cannot be silenced by law. 6. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland break down what happened Sunday night on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, when an off-duty Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputy held at least three teenagers at gunpoint. In a chilling (and very unhinged) video, the teen boys, who were reportedly walking in the deputy's neighborhood, begged for their lives and cried for their mom as the deputy is seen pointing his service weapon at them individually, threatening and even dragging them on the ground. Mandy, Liz and Eric share their reactions to the video and discuss all the ways the case seems to be getting mishandled from the beginning — especially the part where BCSO hasn't arrested the deputy and is refusing to release his name as if this were pre-Internet days. Also on the show, Russell Laffitte has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for using his family's bank to help Alex Murdaugh steal money from Alex's clients. And former South Carolina Rep. RJ May — founding member of the state Freedom Caucus — has pleaded guilty to five federal counts of distributing child sexual abuse material … meaning, he's finally admitting that he's JoeBidennnn69. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References Off-duty deputy was caught on camera pointing his weapon at children in his neighborhood - @Mandy_Matney - Sept 28, 2025

Nathan Forrest Winters; Child Sex Abuse Survivorhttps://www.gofundme.com/we-r-their-voiceWe 'R' their voiceMy name is Nathan Forrest Winters; I am a child sex abuse survivor. Best known for my role as Casey, in the 1987 horror film ‘Clownhouse' written and directed by Victor Salva. Salva is known best for his films ‘powder' and the ‘Jeepers Creepers' series and being the man that sexually abused me for six years of my childhood. Towards the end of '87 Salva was convicted of 5 counts of child molestation and sentenced to three years, of which he served a mere eighteen months at a treatment center in Napa valley California. It's now been three decades since Salva was convicted and sentenced. It was then at the age 12 that my journey and search for healing began. At 20 I found my voice as a survivor. My intention was and still remains to raise awareness and to educate. To shed light onto these darkest of crimes and to be a living example of proof that there is in fact healing to be found in the wake of abuse. To help others to find their strength, courage and their voice. I am currently in production of a documentary entitled ‘Pure Eternus: The Babysitter'. Directed by Connar Frazier,'Babysitter' tells the story of my journey from victim to survivor. I also am fulfilling a dream of mine by writing all the music for the film. I am also in the grassroots stages of starting a non-profit organization called ‘we R their voice' as well as booking venues for my ‘Raised Awareness' speaking tour I plan to launch by spring of next year. So I am quite busy but ecstatic to have such an awesome amount of support and such a willingness to help me see my dreams of doing my part to make this world safer and to expose these predators of our children become a reality. I am proud to be a part of the solution. To be the voice for our children who virtually have none in our judicial system. to bring this epidemic out into the forefront. We as a whole in this country have been too afraid to face such an unspeakable topic and continue to turn a blind eye. This has allowed these predators of our children to go unchecked for too long. Just a few of many disturbing facts is that every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Every 8 minutes that victim is a child. Meanwhile only 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators is convicted. By donating you are making all of this possible; funds go towards establishing a nonprofit, the ‘Raised Awareness' speaking, And assisting Nathan with making this world a safer place.https://www.facebook.com/Nathan-Forrest-Winters-149643722298693/https://www.facebook.com/We-R-their-voice-135534003716869Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

New mums are often inundated with advice, whether that's from their own mums or well meaning women in their lives. Increasingly though, given the sheer amount of our lives that takes place on social media the advice can come straight through our phones. It's led to what the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is calling 'advice overwhelm'. They say two thirds of new mums surveyed felt being inundated with advice added to the pressures of motherhood. It also found a third of new parents feel it's 'self-indulgent' to seek therapy and support. Clare is joined by Georgina Sturmer from BACP and Emma Gould, a mum of three who has experience of this. Julie is a new play about Julie Livingstone, a 14-year-old girl who died after being struck by a plastic bullet fired from an Army Saracen in May 1981 in Belfast, at the height of the hunger strike crisis. One club which often gets mentioned when looking at alternative ways of running a football club is Lewes FC in East Sussex. It gained national attention back in 2017 when it became the first club in the world to pay its men and women equally. It hasn't been smooth sailing and there are questions even now about its financial viability, but one of those who championed its move to gender equality is Karen Dobres. She's even written a book about it – Pitch Invasion, my story as a feminist on a Football Club Board. Karen joins Clare in the studio. Presenter: Clare McDonnell Producer: Emma Pearce
