Bridging the gap between wildlife naturalist and dedicated photographer, Chris Fallows was the first person to photograph the now famous breaching Great White Sharks of South Africa. Since then, he has been the human face for Great White Sharks on the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, the BBC and almost everywhere else you can imagine. Chris has devoted his life to demonstrating the gentler side of “…the last animal on earth that can catch, kill, bite us in half and consume us!” In this in depth interview, Chris shares his views on African Wildlife, on how nature is faring in South Africa post-Apartheid, and the reality hidden behind the shocking decline of Great Whites off the Cape peninsula: Is it the government making the beaches “safer”? Are Australian fishermen to blame? Or is it simply a pair of hungry male Killer Whales who have acquired a taste for Shark Liver pâté? For those who, like Chris, adore the great iconic African subjects - great tusker Elephants, black mane Lions, super groups of Humpbacks, wandering albatrosses, et al - this is the podcast that will inspire you to help conserve them. Chris Fischer did not set out to become a leading authority on the migrations and status of great white sharks. In this episode, he explains how his love of the marine world, and his desire to connect anglers with the science community to create a unified front to help the ocean led to the formation of OCEARCH. Chris opens up the vault and talks about the ups and downs of his enterprise, the work they've done and how their work is lifting the curtain on the mysteries of white sharks.

With this year's sea temperatures shaping up to be some of the warmest ever recorded, marine biologists believe it could be a factor that'll drive shark numbers in our waters this summer. One person who is seriously trying to understand what that may mean is marine scientist Dr Riley Elliot aka Shark Man. He's launched an extraordinary project inviting the public to help sponsor satellite tagging of great white sharks in our waters, so we can not only track these apex predators but also help in the conservation to protect them.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It’s a very different and very important episode of FANS as Sachin is joined by Football Supporters’ Association caseworker Amanda Jacks for a discussion about the treatment of match-going fans by police and stewards. This is a subject Sachin has wanted to cover for a while and he does so with the absolutely ideal person given this has been Amanda’s area of expertise, and passion, for more than a decade. And following a quick chat about hair (yes, you read right) she provides clear and forthright insight into the sometimes difficult relationship that exists between people who watch live football in the UK and the figures of authority they come across as part of that experience. What are the laws that only affect football fans? Why do they exist and what are the draconian ways in which they are used? Amanda talks about all of this as well as discussing the broader, long-term impact of criminalising supporters. Amanda and Sachin also discuss the laws around drinking alcohol at games and how they are not only severe but ridiculous and highlight the way football fans are treated differently to those of other sports. There’s also chat about a Parliamentary Bill that could make it illegal for football fans to be annoying in public before Amanda signs off with a plea for match-goers to make contact with her with any complaints and queries they may have, which can be done so via the following routes: Email: amanda.jacks@thefsa.org.uk Phone: 07703519555 Twitter: @FairCop_ So download, listen and love. And after you have, please Rate and Review. It would mean a lot. Cheers.
What's a great white shark getting up to in 1000 meters of water? What happens when Dr. Michael Domeier went to sea to find out? In this episode, Doc shows a side of great whites you never knew existed. You may have seen him on TV, doing groundbreaking and controversial research on Great White sharks… You may have read him speaking his mind on behalf of the Great Whites that move through Hawaiian waters. For me, it was hearing him talk of the surprising and elusive movements of the Great White sharks at sea, in extreme depths, for extreme periods of time. Although we know a lot about the Great White shark, what we don't know could fill a book. The unreal insight into the mind and life of this scientist will change the way you look at many things. Doc talks real and raw about the causes at hand and isn't afraid to challenge me on any questions. From the discovery of white shark nurseries to the long-term tracking of pregnant females, this episode will contain many answers, but probably leave you with more questions. TheBurg’s June 2020 podcast focuses on innovation! First, innovative strategies are helping to feed the hungry—and capitalizing on the timing of the summer produce season—at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Joe Arthur, executive director, provides details. (Based on the magazine story, “Hunger Pains.”) Secondly, we hear from Sheila Dow-Ford, executive director of Impact Harrisburg. Their innovative grant program swung into action in record time, to help city businesses lessen the pandemic’s impact—with a significant portion going to minority-owned businesses. (Based upon the magazine’s “News Digest.”) Editor of TheBurg Lawrance Binda reflects on the links between tension and change, city and state, in his reoccurring TMHT feature (“the most Harrisburg thing”). Finally, we switch gears, to innovation with a “fun factor.” Straight from the front cover of TheBurg’s June issue, we bring you an exclusive interview with Harrisburg’s newest celeb, “Sharkman” himself. (Here’s our digital June issue.) Meet some of the Harrisburg area’s most fascinating people, and hear their own authentic stories, expanded from every month’s magazine, on TheBurg Podcast—because there’s always “more to the story.” Hosted by Karen Hendricks. Growing up near water, he quickly developed a passion for swimming, spearfishing and the ocean—and he went on to become the South Australian Spear Fishing Champion at age 22. Exactly one year after he won the championship, he was competing to defend his title when he was attacked by a great white shark and was badly wounded. Rodney used the experience to help increase shark awareness around the world and has been involved in dozens of film projects. He developed the first shark cages for underwater viewing and founded the Fox Shark Research Foundation alongside his son Andrew in 2001. In this episode of Anchored, Rodney and I discuss his attack, his role in Jaws, shark conservation and media glamorisation of animal attacks. Buy Rodney's Books: Sharks, the Sea and Me, Sharkman
Okay so, some stuff happens this episode, namely Kankuro getting healed, Gaara getting sucked into a spider, and Itachi and Shark Man starting a fight with the teams. But mostly, Tim and Taylor just wanted to talk about who we think is going to die. Emily just sat back and laughed, knowingly. It was a good time. It's NARUSHOW!

Michael Rutzen has spent more time free diving with great white sharks without a cage than any other person. He's a South African conservationist, film maker, cage diving operator and is one of the few people in the world that can understand and respond to white shark behaviour and body language. Rutzen started his career as a fisherman before joining the shark diving industry in 1994 establishing the pioneering techniques that are now the backbone of the industry. In 2000 he Driven to better understand white shark’s behaviour he found that observing them from a vessel was limiting so in 1998, he began free diving with white sharks in 1998 and founded his cage diving business, Shark Diving Unlimited, in 2000. He has hosted a number of high profile guests on shark observation and diving trips including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, and many more. His work has been featured on Discovery Channel, 60 Minutes, BBC, IMAX and other major medias. He may be the worlds leading expert on Great White Shark behavior. I sat down with him to chat at his workshop in Gansbaai, South Africa.

It's Hot Take Central this week at the Sportive. Special guest John Sharkman joins us as we unleash & debate the following: -- Cheering for AP is fine -- It's not Mitch Leidner's fault -- Johnny Manziel has a chance to be a top QB -- Ryan Adams' "1989" is boring and unnecessary And plenty more. We also get a Johnnie/Tommie preview from Shark and tease a Megan Fox segment that never arrives. Good talk, Russ. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
