She Could Fly, the groundbreaking graphic novel, is a one-of-a-kind reading experience. And now that experimental graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics and Berger Books is a documentary escape game designed to challenge how we think about the deeply misunderstood mental illness, OCD. In Episode #651, Wayne talks with leader/co-designer Sara Kenney and co-producer Mairéad Ruane. They worked with a team of ‘Lived Experience' experts to inform the content and create a global engagement campaign to shift how we think about OCD and mental health. Scientists, psychologists and medical humanities experts were part of the iterative design process, checking and commenting on scripts and game drafts for over two years. It's described this way: “Combining comic art, documentary films and interactive gameplay, the She Could Fly Documentary Escape Game is a point and click, psychological game from Wowbagger Productions that takes players on a looping adventure to explore OCD.” We discuss how this project came to be, who the characters are, and how you can access the book as well as the now-available game. Don't miss this entertaining interview! Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers Patreon member. Jace chats with Sara Kenney and Kiana Firouz about the recently released She Could Fly Documentary Escape Game. Inspired by the incredible She Could Fly comic by Christopher Cantwell and Martin Morazzo this game is designed to help dispel the misinformation and cliches associated with OCD. Drawing from documentary style clips from real people who live with OCD, the game is hugely educational and emotional at times. The puzzles are engaging and entertaining with proceeds going to programs to help strengthen mental health services.

Joining us for episode 101 is the artist behind She Could Fly, a Berger Books miniseries with writer Christopher Cantwell, the co-creator of Image titles Snowfall and Great Pacific with writer Joe Harris, and possibly his most notable work to date: the hit horror anthology through Image Comics Ice Cream Man with writer W. Maxwell Prince.More recently, he and the aforementioned W. Maxwell Prince have set their sights on Art Brut: which, as the world of fine art is falling apart, only Art Brut knows how to fix it. Alongside the Bureau of Artistic Integrity, Art Brut follows the titular Arthur Brut, the Mad Dreampainter (and his trusty sidekick, Manny the Mannequin) as they dive back into the very paintings that made him insane… in order to save reality itself from crumbling. We are honored to welcome Martín Morazzo onto The Oblivion Bar Podcast!Follow us on TwitterLike us on FacebookFollow us on InstagramConsider supporting us over on PatreonStock up on G Fuel (CODE: OBP)Follow us on Whatnot (GET $10 WITH LINK)

This week on Watch With Jen, we have a very special guest and the man behind one of my favorite shows in recent memory. The TV writer, director, producer, showrunner, and co-creator of Halt and Catch Fire, which, along with The Americans, Succession, and Better Call Saul, is easily one of the best series of the 2010s, Christopher Cantwell is here to tell us all about the cult favorite AMC show that you can watch in its entirety right now on Netflix. (And you should totally do that and then come right back to listen to the podcast!)In addition to his TV work, which also includes co-executive producing Lodge 49 and Paper Girls, Chris has been very active as of late in the world of comic books, where he is currently writing Marvel's monthly Iron Man series, as well as his own original titles in collaboration with some truly fantastic artists and imprints such as Vault Comics' The Blue Flame, Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body from Boom Studios, She Could Fly, Volume 3 from Berger Books and Dark Horse. You can find the latest issues of these titles on comic book store shelves throughout the month.Running the length of a feature film, in this epic episode (which serves up some details about the critical favorite that have never before been revealed), Cantwell shares the funny and fascinating behind-the-scenes saga of Halt and Catch Fire from its initial idea to its eventual series run on AMC. Here you'll hear about the casting process including the way that the actors informed their characters, as well as the decision to constantly shift the show's setting and power dynamics each season, along with production stories, Halt's pitch-perfect use of music, and so much more.As a fan of the series from the very beginning and someone who greatly enjoyed chatting with Chris's brilliant wife Elizabeth about horror movies earlier in the year as well, this conversation was a true honor and a pleasure and I'm thrilled to share the story of Halt and Catch Fire with all of you all.Originally Posted on Patreon (11/16/21) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/58774714Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive

Jace welcomes writer Christopher Cantwell back to the show to talk about his upcoming Vault series The Blue Flame. This new series will explore some big ideas with dual storylines set in the down to earth city of Milwaukee and the far reaches of space. Starting from the premise that any hero and certainly a 'super'hero is inherently setting themselves up for failure through the simple fact that they can't be everything and everywhere for everyone. That idea is can then be distilled down and applied to all of us as we live our lives and try to make positive contributions to the world. The guys also chat a bit about Christopher's current Iron Man run, a tease for the return of She Could Fly and more. Join us for this fun and engaging conversation.

Thanks to iFanboy Patrons, it's Talksplode time. Very often, when people come from TV to writing comics books, it's a brief infatuation and a quick exit. As the co-creator of Halt and Catch Fire, Christopher Cantwell ran one of the best drama series on cable in the last decade, and then he decided to try his hand at writing comics, starting with Karen Berger at Dark Horse, on She Could Fly, and Everything. Then Cantwell moved over to Marvel on Doctor Doom and Iron Man. He's a long time comic fan, and it shows in the world. Josh talks to Cantwell about comics and his career, including both comics and TV. Follow Christopher on on Twitter. It might only be natural since Andrew and Mick are in control (Rob is on the other side of the planet), and they've got a lot of issues to deal with since it's time for another of our monthly comics and manga catch-up episodes!  So what do this hapless pair of miscreants have in store for everyone? Michael and Derek are back at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, in Charlotte, NC, for the first of their planned August on-location episodes. And as the Two Guys have been doing with their new format, Michael highlights recent mainstream publications and Derek focuses on more indie or non-DC and Marvel titles. Michael starts the ball rolling by discussing the recent work of Ta-Nehisi Coates, specifically his current writing on Captain America (Marvel Comics). He specifically focuses on the politics embedded in the narratives -- and not only with Cap, but in his Black Pantherwork, as well -- and how Coates is learning the form and growing as a comic-book writer. Derek discusses three recent #1 issues, including Rob Guillory's Farmhand and John Layman and Nick Pitarra's Leviathan(both from Image Comics), as well as She Could Fly, written by Christopher Cantrell and with art by Martin Morazzo (Dark Horse Comics). He links the comedy, and the outrageousness, of Guillory's and Layman's new titles, because the two made their big splash with Chew. The guys also talk about She Could Fly, not only on its own story terms, but as the latest contribution from Berger Books.
