Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure ist der Name des neusten Spiels, das Robert Schneider mit seinem Studio Massive Miniteam nun ganz frisch aus dem Early Access und in den Full Release gerollt hat. Man könnte viele Worte suchen und finden, um den Titel zu beschreiben, aber am einfachsten ist es so: Oddsparks sieht aus, als hätte Nintendo ein eigenes Factorio entwickelt. Dieser treffende Vergleich ist nichts, was sich Gastgeber Dom Schott ausgedacht hat, sondern kursierte längst als Beschreibung für den Titel durch's Netz, als er sich mit Robert Schneider vor dem Mikro traf. Und der muss sich deswegen gleich als allererstes über diese Frage Gedanken machen - nämlich wie es sich anfühlt, wenn die eigene Arbeit mit Nintendo höchstselbst verglichen wird. Anschließend tauchen die beiden tief ein in die Studiogeschichte von Massive Miniteam, die Arbeit an Oddsparks und wie es dem Team derzeit so geht. Denn: in den letzten Monaten mussten einige MitarbeiterInnen das Studio verlassen, das seit Jahren zur großen und wankenden Embracer Group gehört. Gaming startup funding struggles as 2025 begins. Approximately 61% of Americans engage with digital games each week, with Generation Alpha averaging over five hours. However, funding in 2024 fell to around $2.4 billion, a 12% decrease from the previous year, continuing a decline that started after a peak in 2021. While overall startup funding has increased, sectors like gaming experience contractions. Mass layoffs affected about 10% of developers, with companies like Embracer Group, Microsoft, Sony, and Electronic Arts reducing their workforces and canceling projects. Some startups, however, secured significant funding, including Build A Rocket Boy, which raised over $110 million, and Second Dinner Studios, which raised $100 million. The high valuations of major gaming companies underscore the limited funding available to startups, despite growing consumer interest in new gaming experiences. Contrary to their usual behavior, Xbox's communication has left no room for guessing as of late. In a recent marketing campaign titled "This Is An Xbox," the team showed a plethora of devices that you can access the Xbox ecosystem from. Following our conversation about Phil Spencer's interview with Bloomberg, the message already seemed clear that multi-platform is the future. Now, that message is crystal clear and there is no going back. The Dukes dive into the meaning behind this ad and, of course, what caveats may lie within their messaging as Phil was quick to assure console users that there would be more hardware. With plummeting hardware sales, why would Xbox seemingly abandon an install base of over 30 million users and risk damaging the start of their next generation? This becomes an even bigger question when their push on mobile is in its early beginnings and its PC app desperately needs work. The Xbox experience is best on the console, so what gives? In today's Daily Fix:Embracer, the mega conglomerate that owns the Tolkien license and publishes a slew of games from Factorio to Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, has provided a financial update on their recent games. And it's not good. The Epic Mickey remake sales were "slower than expected." Return to Moria, a Lord of the Rings survival crafting game, did well on PC, and was released on PS5 this year to decent sales, but it wasn't enough to stop the company from selling off Borderlands dev Gearbox Software, or Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 dev Saber Interactive. In other news, Infinity Nikki, an open-world dress up game, has a release date of December 5th. The game comes from former Zelda director Kentaro Tominaga. And speaking of release dates, Atomfall, the "British Fallout," will hit PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC on March 27, 2025. It's also a day one game for Game Pass.
