Dr. Shaun M. Anderson's The Black Athlete Revolt is the first book to take a historical and contemporary look at how Black athletes have used their influence to move beyond protests and create substantial change for Black Americans. As society fights to go from protest to policy reform, the revitalization of athlete activism in recent years has sparked a new platform: The Sports Justice Movement. This book details the ascension of this movement, where it is presently, and what's next.Episode Links:Book: https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781538153253/The-Black-Athlete-Revolt-The-Sport-Justice-Movement-in-the-Age-of-Web: https://www.shaunmarqanderson.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SportsDocATwitter: https://twitter.com/shaunmarqspeaks LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shaun-m-anderson-phd-28515414/Joey Pinz Conversations Podcast Information: • Website: https://www.joeypinz.com • Link Tree: https://linktr.ee/joeypinz • Music by Tom Izzo: @wahlsinger https://tomizzomusic.com Support our podcast: • Subscribe: https://joeypinzconversations.com/subscribe/ • How much is this podcast worth to you?
From vaccine mandates to police brutality, certain sports figures have used their unique platform to bring attention to political and social causes that they care about. But, as a venue that has the power to unite typically divided groups of people, should the sports pitch be off limits from these types of protests? Is it fair for leagues to silence their stars, removing their ability to speak out on these important topics?

The failures of Reconstruction. The destruction of Black Wall Street. The Jim Crow Era. These examples of suppression are woven into the fabric of the United States. The election season saw a record increase in voter turnout. In Georgia, voters elected Democrats Joe Biden, Jon Ossoff, and Raphael Warnock to serve as their U.S. President and Senators giving the Democrats full control of Congress. False claims of voter fraud led to the enactment of voting laws that disproportionately impacted Georgia voters of color. Businesses and sporting organizations across the nation expressed their opposition, most notably with the cancellation of the 2021 MLB All-Star Game schedule to be hosted in Atlanta. The less of a man crew discusses the changes in the Georgia voter laws and majors sports and athletes' role in the social justice movement. The crew also ask if sports and entertainment truly serve as the black man's momentary escape from his reality.
We discuss how the sports industry is being wrecked by politics and whether there is still a place for politics in sports. Also why Jordan doesn't pass the ball to anyone. ". . .bowing the knee to your television."

In 2018, Fox News personality, Laura Ingrahm, told LeBron James to "shut up and dribble" in response to his criticims of the Trump administration. He did the exact opposite, and used his large platform to speak out about social and racial injustice. Other celebrities also use their platform to speak out about what they're passionate about, right or wrong. Should celebrities weigh in on politics?
